Then will I go unto the
altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy:
yea, upon the
harp will I praise thee, O God my God.
Then I will go to the
altar of God, to God, my greatest joy. I will praise You with the
harp, O God, my God.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
Then You will delight in righteous sacrifices, in whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.
Yea, the
sparrow hath found an house, and the
swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine
altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
Even the
sparrow has found a home, and the
swallow a nest for herself, where she places her young near Your
altars, O LORD of Hosts, my King and my God.
God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.
The LORD is God; He has made His light to
shine upon us. Bind the
festal sacrifice with cords to the horns of the
altar.
Then
flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the
tongs from off the
altar:
And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.
They will not look to the altars they have fashioned with their hands or to the Asherahs and incense altars they have made with their fingers.
In that day shall there be an
altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a
pillar at the border thereof to the LORD.
In that day there will be an
altar to the LORD in the center of the land of Egypt, and a
pillar to the LORD near her border.
By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be
purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the
altar as chalkstones that are beaten in
sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.
Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be
atoned for, and the full fruit of the removal of his sin will be this: When he makes all the
altar stones like
crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense
altars will remain standing.
Yet I will distress
Ariel, and there shall be
heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as
Ariel.
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose
altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this
altar?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high places and
altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before this
altar’?
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
I will bring them to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar, for My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.”
All the flocks of
Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine
altar, and I will
glorify the house of my glory.
All the flocks of
Kedar will be gathered to you; the rams of Nebaioth will serve you and go up on My
altar with acceptance; I will
adorn My glorious house.
A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;
to a people who continually
provoke Me to My face, sacrificing in the gardens and burning incense on
altars of brick,
For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up
altars to that shameful thing, even
altars to burn incense unto
Baal.
Your gods are indeed as numerous as your cities, O Judah; the
altars of shame you have set up—the
altars to burn incense to
Baal—are as many as the streets of Jerusalem.’
The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a
diamond: it is
graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your
altars;
“The sin of Judah is written with an iron
stylus, engraved with a
diamond point on the tablets of their hearts and on the horns of their
altars.
Whilst their children remember their altars and their groves by the green trees upon the high hills.
Even their children remember their altars and Asherah poles by the green trees and on the high hills.
The Lord hath cast off his
altar, he hath
abhorred his sanctuary, he hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn feast.
The Lord has rejected His
altar; He has abandoned His sanctuary; He has delivered the walls of her palaces into the hand of the enemy. They have raised a
shout in the house of the LORD as on the day of an appointed feast.
And your
altars shall be
desolate, and your images shall be broken: and I will cast down your slain men before your idols.
Your
altars will be
demolished and your incense
altars will be
smashed; and I will cast down your slain before your idols.
And I will lay the dead carcases of the children of Israel before their idols; and I will
scatter your bones round about your
altars.
I will lay the corpses of the Israelites before their idols and
scatter your bones around your
altars.
In all your dwellingplaces the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be
desolate; that your
altars may be laid waste and made
desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished.
Wherever you live, the cities will be laid waste and the high places will be
demolished, so that your
altars will be laid waste and
desecrated, your idols
smashed and
obliterated, your incense
altars cut down, and your works
blotted out.
Then shall ye know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour to all their idols.
Then you will know that I am the LORD, when their slain lie among their idols around their
altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, and under every green tree and
leafy oak—the places where they offered
fragrant incense to all their idols.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “now lift up your eyes to the north.” So I lifted up my eyes to the north, and in the entrance north of the
Altar Gate I saw this
idol of jealousy.
And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD’S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the
porch and the
altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.
So He brought me to the inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple of the LORD, between the
portico and the
altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs to the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east; and they were bowing to the east in worship of the sun.
And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer’s
inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the
brasen altar.
And I saw six men coming from the direction of the Upper Gate, which faces north, each with a weapon of slaughter in his hand. With them was another man clothed in linen who had a writing
kit at his side. And they came in and stood beside the bronze
altar.
And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the
altar: these are the sons of
Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the LORD to minister unto him.
and the chamber that faces north is for the priests who keep charge of the
altar. These are the sons of
Zadok, the only Levites who may approach the LORD to minister before Him.”
So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad,
foursquare; and the
altar that was before the house.
Next he measured the court. It was square, a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.
The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the LORD.
There was an altar of wood three cubits high and two cubits square. Its corners, base, and sides were of wood. And the man told me, “This is the table that is before the LORD.”
And these are the measures of the
altar after the cubits: The
cubit is a
cubit and an hand breadth; even the bottom shall be a
cubit, and the breadth a
cubit, and the border thereof by the edge thereof round about shall be a span: and this shall be the higher place of the
altar.
These are the measurements of the
altar in long cubits (a
cubit and a
handbreadth): Its
gutter shall be a
cubit deep and a
cubit wide, with a
rim of one span around its edge. And this is the height of the
altar:
So the altar shall be four cubits; and from the altar and upward shall be four horns.
The
altar hearth shall be four cubits high, and four horns shall project upward from the
hearth.
And the altar shall be twelve cubits long, twelve broad, square in the four squares thereof.
The
altar hearth shall be square at its four corners, twelve cubits long and twelve cubits wide.
And the settle shall be fourteen cubits long and fourteen broad in the four squares thereof; and the border about it shall be half a
cubit; and the bottom thereof shall be a
cubit about; and his stairs shall look toward the east.
The
ledge shall also be square, fourteen cubits long and fourteen cubits wide, with a
rim of half a
cubit and a
gutter of a
cubit all around it. The steps of the
altar shall face east.”
And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; These are the ordinances of the
altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings
thereon, and to
sprinkle blood
thereon.
Then He said to me: “Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘These are the statutes for the
altar on the day it is constructed, so that burnt offerings may be sacrificed on it and blood may be
sprinkled on it:
And thou shalt take of the blood thereof, and put it on the four horns of it, and on the four corners of the settle, and upon the border round about: thus shalt thou
cleanse and
purge it.
You are to take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the
altar, on the four corners of the
ledge, and all around the
rim; thus you will
cleanse the
altar and make
atonement for it.
And on the second day thou shalt offer a
kid of the goats without
blemish for a sin offering; and they shall
cleanse the
altar, as they did
cleanse it with the
bullock.
On the second day you are to present an
unblemished male goat as a sin offering, and the
altar is to be
cleansed as it was with the bull.
And when these days are
expired, it shall be, that upon the eighth day, and so forward, the priests shall make your burnt offerings upon the
altar, and your peace offerings; and I will accept you, saith the Lord GOD.
At the end of these days, from the eighth day on, the priests are to present your burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar. Then I will accept you, declares the Lord GOD.’”
And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering, and put it upon the posts of the house, and upon the four corners of the settle of the altar, and upon the posts of the gate of the inner court.
And the priest is to take some of the blood from the sin offering and put it on the doorposts of the temple, on the four corners of the
ledge of the
altar, and on the gateposts of the inner court.
Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the
threshold of the house eastward: for the
forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the
altar.
Then the man brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water flowing from under the
threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the
altar.
Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.
Though Ephraim multiplied the
altars for sin, they became his
altars for
sinning.
Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
Israel was a
luxuriant vine, yielding fruit for himself. The more his fruit increased, the more he increased the
altars. The better his land produced, the better he made the sacred pillars.
Their heart is divided; now shall they be found
faulty: he shall break down their
altars, he shall
spoil their images.
Their hearts are
devious; now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will break down their
altars and
demolish their sacred pillars.
The high places also of
Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the
thorn and the
thistle shall come up on their
altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
The high places of
Aven will be destroyed— it is the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles will overgrow their
altars. Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”
Is there iniquity in
Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in
Gilgal;
yea, their
altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
Is there iniquity in
Gilead? They will surely come to nothing. Do they sacrifice bulls in
Gilgal? Indeed, their
altars will be heaps of stones in the furrows of the field.
Gird yourselves, and
lament, ye priests:
howl, ye ministers of the
altar: come, lie all night in
sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is
withholden from the house of your God.
Put on
sackcloth and
lament, O priests;
wail, O ministers of the
altar. Come,
spend the night in
sackcloth, O ministers of my God, because the grain and drink offerings are
withheld from the house of your God.
Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD,
weep between the
porch and the
altar, and let them say,
Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine
heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
Let the priests who minister before the LORD
weep between the
portico and the
altar, saying, “
Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not make Your
heritage a reproach, an object of
scorn among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”
And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to
pledge by every
altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.
They lie down beside every
altar on garments taken in
pledge. And in the house of their God, they drink wine obtained through fines.
That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the
altars of
Bethel: and the horns of the
altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.
On the day I
punish Israel for their transgressions, I will visit destruction on the
altars of
Bethel; the horns of the
altar will be cut off, and they will fall to the ground.
I saw the LORD standing upon the
altar: and he said,
Smite the
lintel of the door, that the posts may
shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will
slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not
flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.
I saw the Lord standing beside the
altar, and He said: “Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds
shake.
Topple them on the heads of all the people, and I will kill the rest with the sword. None of those who
flee will get away; none of the fugitives will escape.
The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall
devour, and
subdue with
sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like
bowls, and as the corners of the
altar.
The LORD of Hosts will shield them. They will destroy and
conquer with slingstones; they will drink and
roar as with wine. And they will be filled like
sprinkling bowls,
drenched like the corners of the
altar.
In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses,
HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD’S house shall be like the
bowls before the
altar.
On that day, HOLY TO THE LORD will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the
cooking pots in the house of the LORD will be like the
sprinkling bowls before the
altar.
Ye offer
polluted bread upon mine
altar; and ye say, Wherein have we
polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
By presenting
defiled food on My
altar. But you ask, ‘How have we
defiled You?’ By saying that the table of the LORD is contemptible.
Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for
nought? neither do ye
kindle fire on mine
altar for
nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
“Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would no longer
kindle useless fires on My
altar! I take no pleasure in you,” says the LORD of Hosts, “and I will accept no offering from your hands.
And this have ye done again, covering the
altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping, and with crying out,
insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.
And this is another thing you do: You cover the
altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping and
groaning, because He no longer regards your offerings or receives them
gladly from your hands.
Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
Leave there thy gift before the
altar, and go thy way; first be
reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
leave your gift there before the
altar. First go and be
reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
And,
Whosoever shall
swear by the
altar, it is nothing; but
whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
And you say, ‘If
anyone swears by the
altar, it means nothing; but if
anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes it sacred?
So then, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous
Abel unto the blood of
Zacharias son of
Barachias, whom ye
slew between the temple and the
altar.
And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous
Abel to the blood of
Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the
altar.
And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
Just then an angel of the Lord appeared to
Zechariah, standing at the right side of the
altar of incense.
From the blood of
Abel unto the blood of
Zacharias, which perished between the
altar and the temple:
verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
from the blood of
Abel to the blood of
Zechariah, who was killed between the
altar and the sanctuary.
Yes, I tell you, all of it will be charged to this generation.
For as I passed by, and
beheld your devotions, I found an
altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
For as I walked around and examined your objects of worship, I even found an
altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore what you worship as something unknown, I now
proclaim to you.
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and
digged down thine
altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
“Lord, they have killed Your prophets and
torn down Your
altars. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well”?
Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
Do you not know that those who work in the temple eat of its food, and those who serve at the
altar partake of its offerings?
Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
Consider the people of Israel: Are not those who eat the sacrifices fellow partakers in the altar?
For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar.
Which had the golden
censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had
manna, and Aaron’s rod that
budded, and the tables of the covenant;
containing the golden
altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. Inside the ark were the gold
jar of
manna, Aaron’s staff that had
budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.
By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only
begotten son,
By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac on the altar. He who had received the promises was ready to offer his one and only son,
We have an
altar,
whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.
We have an altar from which those who serve at the tabernacle have no right to eat.
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Was not our father Abraham justified by what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
And when the Lamb opened the fifth seal, I saw under the
altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony they had
upheld.
And another angel came and stood at the
altar, having a golden
censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden
altar which was before the throne.
Then another angel, who had a golden
censer, came and stood at the
altar. He was given much incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden
altar before the throne.
And the angel took the
censer, and filled it with fire of the
altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an
earthquake.
And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
Then the sixth angel sounded his
trumpet, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden
altar before God
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
Then I was given a measuring rod like a staff and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the number of worshipers there.
And another angel came out from the
altar, which had power over fire; and
cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp
sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp
sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
Still another angel, with authority over the fire, came from the
altar and called out in a loud voice to the angel with the sharp
sickle, “
Swing your sharp
sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the vine of the earth, because its grapes are ripe.”
And I heard another out of the
altar say, Even so, Lord God
Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
And I heard the
altar reply: “
Yes, Lord God
Almighty, true and just are Your judgments.”
And offer sacrifices upon the altar of the Lord, according to the commandment of king Josias.
And other ten talents yearly, to maintain the burnt offerings upon the altar every day, as they had a commandment to offer seventeen:
Then stood up Jesus the son of Josedec, and his brethren the priests and Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and his brethren, and made ready the altar of the God of Israel,
And there were gathered unto them out of the other nations of the land, and they erected the
altar upon his own place, because all the nations of the land were at
enmity with them, and
oppressed them; and they offered sacrifices according to the time, and burnt offerings to the Lord both morning and evening.
To the end that they may offer sacrifices unto the Lord upon the altar of the Lord their God, which is in Jerusalem.
For thou seest that our sanctuary is laid waste, our altar broken down, our temple destroyed;
But I alone went often to Jerusalem at the feasts, as it was ordained unto all the people of Israel by an
everlasting decree, having the firstfruits and tenths of increase, with that which was first
shorn; and them gave I at the
altar to the priests the children of Aaron.
For they were newly returned from the captivity, and all the people of
Judea were lately gathered together: and the vessels, and the
altar, and the house, were
sanctified after the
profanation.
Thus every man and women, and the little children, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, fell before the temple, and cast ashes upon their heads, and spread out their
sackcloth before the face of the Lord: also they put
sackcloth about the
altar,
Now therefore, O brethren, let us
shew an example to our brethren, because their hearts depend upon us, and the sanctuary, and the house, and the
altar, rest upon us.
Throw down their strength in thy power, and bring down their force in thy wrath: for they have purposed to
defile thy sanctuary, and to
pollute the tabernacle where thy glorious name resteth and to cast down with sword the horn of thy
altar.
That they will
abolish the thing that thou with thy mouth hast ordained, and destroy thine inheritance, and stop the mouth of them that praise thee, and
quench the glory of thy house, and of thine
altar,
Thou hast commanded me to build a temple upon thy holy mount, and an altar in the city wherein thou dwellest, a resemblance of the holy tabernacle, which thou hast prepared from the beginning.
The offering of the righteous maketh the altar fat, and the sweet savour thereof is before the most High.
He set singers also before the
altar, that by their voices they might make sweet
melody, and daily sing praises in their songs.
When he put on the
robe of honour, and was clothed with the perfection of glory, when he went up to the holy
altar, he made the garment of
holiness honourable.
When he took the portions out of the priests’ hands, he himself stood by the
hearth of the
altar, compassed about, as a young
cedar in Libanus; and as palm trees compassed they him round about.
And finishing the service at the
altar, that he might
adorn the offering of the most high
Almighty,
He stretched out his hand to the cup, and poured of the blood of the
grape, he poured out at the foot of the
altar a sweetsmelling savour unto the most high King of all.
And they said, Behold, we have sent you money to
buy you burnt offerings, and sin offerings, and incense, and prepare ye
manna, and offer upon the
altar of the Lord our God;
And entered proudly into the sanctuary, and took away the golden
altar, and the
candlestick of light, and all the vessels thereof,
Set up
altars, and groves, and chapels of idols, and sacrifice
swine’s flesh, and unclean beasts:
Now the
fifteenth day of the month Casleu, in the hundred forty and fifth year, they set up the
abomination of
desolation upon the
altar, and builded
idol altars throughout the cities of Juda on every side;
