and distil upon man abundantly.
which the clouds pour out and shower abundantly on mankind.
Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.
See how He scatters His
lightning around Him
and covers the depths of the sea.
For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.
For by these He judges the nations and provides food in abundance.
With clouds he covereth the light;
and commandeth it not to
shine by the cloud that cometh
betwixt.
He fills His hands with
lightning and commands it to strike its mark.

“At this my heart also pounds and leaps from its place.
Hear
attentively the noise of his voice,
and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.
He directeth it under the whole heaven,
and his
lightning unto the ends of the earth.
He unleashes His
lightning beneath the whole sky
and sends it to the ends of the earth.
After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his
excellency;
and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.
Then there comes a
roaring sound; He thunders with His
majestic voice. He does not restrain the
lightning when His voice resounds.
For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the gentle rain, ‘Pour out a mighty
downpour.’

The wild animals enter their lairs; they settle down in their dens.

whirlwind:

frost is given:
and the breadth of the waters is
straitened.
By the breath of God the ice is formed
and the
watery expanses are
frozen.

whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.
Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still,
and consider the
wondrous works of God.
Listen to this, O Job; stand still
and consider the wonders of God.
Dost thou know when God disposed them,
and caused the light of his cloud to
shine?
Do you know how God dispatches the clouds or makes the
lightning flash?
Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong,
and as a
molten looking glass?
can you, like Him, spread out the
skies to
reflect the heat like a mirror of bronze?
And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.
Now no one can
gaze at the sun when it is bright in the
skies after the wind has swept them clean.
Touching the
Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power,
and in judgment,
and in
plenty of justice: he will not
afflict.
The
Almighty is beyond our reach; He is
exalted in power! In His justice
and great righteousness He does not
oppress.
Then the LORD answered Job out of the
whirlwind,
and said,
Then the LORD answered Job out of the
whirlwind and said:
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee,
and answer thou me.
Now
brace yourself like a man; I will question you,
and you shall inform Me.
When the morning stars
sang together,
and all the sons of God
shouted for joy?
while the morning stars
sang together
and all the sons of God
shouted for joy?
When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
when I made the clouds its garment
and thick darkness its
blanket,
And brake up for it my decreed place,
and set bars
and doors,
when I fixed its boundaries and set in place its bars and doors,
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
and I declared: ‘You may come this far, but no farther; here your proud waves must stop’?
Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days;
and caused the
dayspring to know his place;
In your days, have you commanded the morning or assigned the
dawn its place,
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be
shaken out of it?
that it might spread to the ends of the earth
and shake the wicked out of it?
It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its hills stand out like the folds of a garment.
And from the wicked their light is
withholden,
and the high arm shall be broken.
Light is
withheld from the wicked,
and their upraised arm is broken.
Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
Where is the way to the home of light? Do you know where darkness resides,
That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
so you can lead it back to its border? Do you know the paths to its home?
Knowest thou it, because thou
wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
Surely you know, for you were already born! And the number of your days is great!

which I hold in reserve for times of trouble, for the day of war and battle?
To satisfy the
desolate and waste ground;
and to cause the
bud of the tender
herb to spring forth?
to satisfy the
parched wasteland
and make it
sprout with tender grass?
From whose
womb does the ice
emerge? Who gives birth to the
frost from heaven,
The waters are
hid as with a stone,
and the face of the deep is
frozen.
when the waters become hard as stone
and the surface of the deep is
frozen?
Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide
Arcturus with his sons?
Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear and her cubs?
Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
Can you send the
lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?
When the dust groweth into hardness,
and the clods
cleave fast together?
when the dust hardens into a mass and the clods of earth stick together?
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
They
crouch down
and bring forth their young; they deliver their
newborn.
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
Their young ones
thrive and grow up in the open field; they leave
and do not return.

and never hears the shouts of a driver.

barn?

and feathers unto the
ostrich?

crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
She forgets that a foot may
crush them, or a wild animal may
trample them.

He paws in the valley and rejoices in his strength; he charges into battle.
He mocketh at fear,
and is not
affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
He laughs at fear,
frightened of nothing; he does not turn back from the sword.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness
and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the
trumpet.
Trembling with excitement, he devours the distance; he cannot stand still when the ram’s horn sounds.
At the blast of the horn, he snorts with
fervor. He catches the
scent of battle from
afar— the shouts of captains
and the cry of war.
Doth the
hawk fly by thy wisdom,
and stretch her wings toward the south?
Does the
hawk take flight by your understanding
and spread his wings toward the south?

and make her nest on high?
Does the eagle
soar at your command
and make his nest on high?

and abideth on the rock, upon the
crag of the rock,
and the strong place.
From thence she seeketh the prey,
and her eyes behold
afar off.
From there he
spies out food; his eyes see it from
afar.

suck up blood:
and where the slain are, there is she.
His young ones feast on blood; and where the slain are, there he is.”
Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,
And the LORD said to Job:
Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
Then Job answered the LORD:
Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the
whirlwind,
and said,
Then the LORD answered Job out of the
whirlwind and said:
Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee,
and declare thou unto me.
“Now
brace yourself like a man; I will question you,
and you shall inform Me.
Cast abroad the
rage of thy wrath:
and behold every one that is proud,
and abase him.
Unleash the
fury of your wrath; look on every proud man
and bring him low.
Look on every one that is proud,
and bring him low;
and tread down the wicked in their place.
Look on every proud man
and humble him;
trample the wicked where they stand.
Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
Bury them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.
Lo now, his strength is in his loins,
and his force is in the
navel of his
belly.
See the strength of his loins
and the power in the muscles of his
belly.

shady trees, in the
covert of the reed,
and fens.
He lies under the
lotus plants, hidden among the reeds of the marsh.
Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
Though the river rages,
Behemoth is unafraid; he remains secure, though the Jordan surges to his mouth.
Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
If you lay a hand on him, you will remember the battle
and never
repeat it!
I will not
conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
I cannot keep silent about his limbs, his power and graceful form.
They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be
sundered.
They are joined to one another; they
clasp and cannot be separated.
By his neesings a light
doth shine,
and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
Out of his mouth go burning lamps,
and sparks of fire
leap out.
Firebrands stream from his mouth;
fiery sparks shoot forth!
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
His breath sets coals
ablaze,
and flames pour from his mouth.
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
Strength resides in his neck, and dismay leaps before him.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
The folds of his flesh are
tightly joined; they are firm
and immovable.

and brass as
rotten wood.
He regards iron as straw
and bronze as
rotten wood.

and he laughs at the sound of the
lance.
Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
Then Job replied to the LORD:
I know that thou canst do every thing,
and that no thought can be
withholden from thee.
“I know that You can do all things
and that no plan of Yours can be
thwarted.
Hear, I
beseech thee,
and I will speak: I will demand of thee,
and declare thou unto me.
You said, ‘
Listen now,
and I will speak. I will question you,
and you shall inform Me.’
Wherefore I
abhor myself,
and repent in dust
and ashes.
Therefore I retract my words,
and I
repent in dust
and ashes.”
And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is
kindled against thee,
and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.
After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, He said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is
kindled against you
and your two friends. For you have not spoken about Me accurately, as My servant Job has.
Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks
and seven rams,
and go to my servant Job,
and offer up for
yourselves a burnt offering;
and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
So now, take seven bulls
and seven rams, go to My servant Job,
and sacrifice a burnt offering for
yourselves. Then My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept his prayer
and not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken accurately about Me, as My servant Job has.”
So Eliphaz the Temanite
and Bildad the Shuhite
and Zophar the Naamathite went,
and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.
So Eliphaz the Temanite,
Bildad the Shuhite,
and Zophar the Naamathite went
and did as the LORD had told them;
and the LORD accepted Job’s request.
And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Then came there unto him all his brethren,
and all his sisters,
and all they that had been of his acquaintance before,
and did eat bread with him in his house:
and they
bemoaned him,
and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money,
and every one an
earring of gold.
All his brothers
and sisters
and prior acquaintances came
and dined with him in his house. They
consoled him
and comforted him over all the
adversity that the LORD had brought upon him.
And each one gave him a piece of silver
and a gold ring.
So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep,
and six thousand camels,
and a thousand yoke of oxen,
and a thousand she
asses.
So the LORD blessed Job’s latter days more than his first. He owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen,
and 1,000 female
donkeys.
He had also seven sons and three daughters.
And he also had seven sons and three daughters.
And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch.

And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.
No women as beautiful as Job’s daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance among their brothers.
After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.
After this, Job lived 140 years and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.
So Job died, being old and full of days.
And so Job died, old and full of years.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
and in his law
doth he
meditate day
and night.
But his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall
prosper.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither, and who prospers in all he does.
Why do the heathen
rage,
and the people imagine a vain thing?
Why do the nations
rage and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD,
and against his
anointed, saying,
The kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather together, against the LORD
and against His
Anointed One:
