Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
The law of truth was in his mouth,
and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace
and equity,
and did turn many away from iniquity.
True instruction was in his mouth, and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity.
For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge,
and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the
messenger of the LORD of hosts.
For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge,
and people should seek instruction from his mouth, because he is the
messenger of the LORD of Hosts.
But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to
stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
But you have departed from the way,
and your instruction has caused many to
stumble. You have
violated the covenant of Levi,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.
“So I in turn have made you
despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not kept My ways, but have shown
partiality in matters of the law.”
Judah hath dealt
treacherously,
and an
abomination is committed in Israel
and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath
profaned the
holiness of the LORD which he loved,
and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Judah has broken faith; an
abomination has been committed in Israel
and in Jerusalem. For Judah has
profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.
As for the man who does this, may the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob
everyone who is
awake and aware—even if he brings an offering to the LORD of Hosts.
And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping,
and with crying out,
insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.
And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping and groaning, because He no longer regards your offerings or receives them
gladly from your hands.
Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee
and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt
treacherously: yet is she thy companion,
and the wife of thy covenant.
Yet you ask, “Why?” It is because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have broken faith, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.
And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit.
And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take
heed to your spirit,
and let none deal
treacherously against the wife of his youth.
Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit?
And why one? Because He seeks godly offspring. So guard
yourselves in your spirit
and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.
For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take
heed to your spirit, that ye deal not
treacherously.
“For I
hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “He who divorces his wife covers his garment with violence,” says the LORD of Hosts. So guard
yourselves in your spirit
and do not break faith.
Ye have
wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we
wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD,
and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?
You have
wearied the LORD with your words; yet you ask, “How have we
wearied Him?” By saying, “All who do evil are good in the sight of the LORD,
and in them He delights,” or, “Where is the God of justice?”
Behold, I will send my
messenger,
and he shall prepare the way before me:
and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the
messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
“Behold, I will send My
messenger, who will prepare the way before Me. Then the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to His temple—the
Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight—see, He is coming,” says the LORD of Hosts.
But who may
abide the day of his coming?
and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire,
and like fullers’
sope:
But who can
endure the day of His coming?
And who can stand when He appears? For He will be like a refiner’s fire, like a
launderer’s soap.
And he shall sit as a refiner
and purifier of silver:
and he shall
purify the sons of Levi,
and purge them as gold
and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
And He will sit as a refiner
and purifier of silver; He will
purify the sons of Levi
and refine them like gold
and silver. Then they will present offerings to the LORD in righteousness.
Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
Then the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will please the LORD, as in days of old and years gone by.
And I will come near to you to judgment;
and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers,
and against the adulterers,
and against false swearers,
and against those that
oppress the
hireling in his wages, the widow,
and the fatherless,
and that turn aside the stranger from his right,
and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
“Then I will draw near to you for judgment.
And I will be a swift witness against sorcerers
and adulterers
and perjurers, against oppressors of the widowed
and fatherless,
and against those who
defraud laborers of their wages
and deny justice to the foreigner but do not fear Me,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
Yet from the days of your fathers, you have turned away from My statutes and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD of Hosts. “But you ask, ‘How can we return?’
Will a man
rob God? Yet ye have
robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we
robbed thee? In
tithes and offerings.
Will a man
rob God? Yet you are
robbing Me! But you ask, ‘How do we
rob You?’ In
tithes and offerings.
Bring ye all the
tithes into the
storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house,
and prove me now
herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven,
and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Bring the full
tithe into the
storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven
and pour out for you blessing without measure.
And I will
rebuke the
devourer for your sakes,
and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
I will
rebuke the
devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your land,
and the vine in your field will not fail to produce fruit,” says the LORD of Hosts.
And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a
delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.
“Then all the nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Ye have said, It is vain to serve God:
and what profit is it that we have kept his
ordinance,
and that we have walked
mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
You have said, ‘It is
futile to serve God. What have we gained by keeping His requirements
and walking
mournfully before the LORD of Hosts?
And now we call the proud happy;
yea, they that work wickedness are set up;
yea, they that
tempt God are even delivered.
So now we call the
arrogant blessed. Not only do evildoers
prosper, they even test God
and escape.’”
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another:
and the LORD
hearkened,
and heard it,
and a book of
remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD,
and that thought upon his name.
At that time those who feared the LORD spoke with one another,
and the LORD
listened and heard them. So a
scroll of
remembrance was written before Him regarding those who feared the LORD
and honored His name.
And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels;
and I will
spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
“They will be Mine,” says the LORD of Hosts, “on the day when I prepare My
treasured possession.
And I will
spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.
Then shall ye return,
and discern between the righteous
and the wicked, between him that serveth God
and him that serveth him not.
So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”
For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an
oven;
and all the proud,
yea,
and all that do wickedly, shall be
stubble:
and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
“For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the
arrogant and every
evildoer will be
stubble; the day is coming when I will set them
ablaze,” says the LORD of Hosts. “Not a root or branch will be left to them.”
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with
healing in his wings;
and ye shall go forth,
and grow up as
calves of the
stall.
“But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with
healing in its wings,
and you will go out
and leap like
calves from the
stall.
And ye shall
tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
Then you will
trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day I am preparing,” says the LORD of Hosts.
Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in
Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes
and judgments.
“Remember the law of My servant Moses, the statutes
and ordinances I commanded him for all Israel at
Horeb.
Behold, I will send you
Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great
and dreadful day of the LORD:
Behold, I will send you
Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great
and awesome Day of the LORD.
And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children,
and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come
and smite the earth with a
curse.
And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children,
and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come
and strike the land with a
curse.”
Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.
Judah was the father of
Perez and Zerah by Tamar,
Perez the father of Hezron,
and Hezron the father of Ram.
Ram was the father of
Amminadab,
Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
and Nahshon the father of Salmon.
Salmon was the father of Boaz by
Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed by
Ruth, Obed the father of
Jesse,
And Jesse begat David the king;
and David the king
begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
and Jesse the father of David the king. Next: David was the father of Solomon by Uriah’s wife,
Uzziah was the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of
Ahaz,
and Ahaz the father of
Hezekiah.
And Ezekias
begat Manasses;
and Manasses
begat Amon;
and Amon
begat Josias;
And Josias
begat Jechonias
and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
and Josiah the father of Jeconiah
and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias
begat Salathiel;
and Salathiel
begat Zorobabel;
After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of
Zerubbabel,
And Zorobabel
begat Abiud;
and Abiud
begat Eliakim;
and Eliakim
begat Azor;
Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim,
and Eliakim the father of Azor.
Azor was the father of
Zadok,
Zadok the father of Achim,
and Achim the father of Eliud.
Eliud was the father of
Eleazar,
Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,
And Jacob
begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
In all, then, there were fourteen generations from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man,
and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away
privily.
Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man
and was unwilling to disgrace her publicly, he resolved to
divorce her quietly.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
But after he had
pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream
and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
Behold, a virgin shall be with child,
and shall bring forth a son,
and they shall call his name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
“Behold, the virgin will be with child
and will give birth to a son,
and they will call Him
Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”).
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had
bidden him,
and took unto him his wife:
When Joseph
woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him,
and embraced Mary as his wife.
And knew her not till she had brought forth her
firstborn son:
and he called his name JESUS.
But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a Son. And he gave Him the name Jesus.
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
asking, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests
and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
And when he had assembled all the chief priests
and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.
And they said unto him, In
Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
“In
Bethlehem in
Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
And thou
Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
‘But you,
Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will be the
shepherd of My people Israel.’”
Then Herod, when he had
privily called the wise men, enquired of them
diligently what time the star appeared.
Then Herod called the
Magi secretly
and learned from them the exact time the star had appeared.
And he sent them to
Bethlehem,
and said, Go
and search
diligently for the young child;
and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come
and worship him also.
And sending them to
Bethlehem, he said: “Go
and search carefully for the Child,
and when you find Him, report to me, so that I too may go
and worship Him.”
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
After they had heard the king, they went on their way,
and the star they had seen in the east went
ahead of them until it stood over the place where the Child was.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother,
and fell down,
and worshipped him:
and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold,
and frankincense,
and myrrh.
On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary,
and they fell down
and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures
and presented Him with gifts of gold
and frankincense and myrrh.
And being
warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
And having been
warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another route.
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise,
and take the young child
and his mother,
and flee into Egypt,
and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
When the
Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child
and His mother
and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.”
When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
So he got up, took the Child and His mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt,
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
where he stayed until the death of Herod. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
Then Herod, when he saw that he was
mocked of the wise men, was exceeding
wroth,
and sent forth,
and slew all the children that were in
Bethlehem,
and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old
and under, according to the time which he had
diligently enquired of the wise men.
When Herod saw that he had been outwitted by the
Magi, he was filled with
rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in
Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old
and under, according to the time he had learned from the
Magi.
Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
“Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those seeking the Child’s life are now dead.”
And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
So Joseph got up, took the Child and His mother, and went to the land of Israel.
But when he heard that
Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being
warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of
Galilee:
But when he learned that
Archelaus was reigning in
Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there.
And having been
warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of
Galilee,
And he came
and dwelt in a city called
Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a
Nazarene.
and he went
and lived in a town called
Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a
Nazarene.”
And saying,
Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
and saying, “
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
And the same John had his
raiment of
camel’s hair,
and a
leathern girdle about his loins;
and his meat was locusts
and wild honey.
John
wore a garment of
camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his
waist. His food was locusts
and wild honey.
Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
People went out to him from Jerusalem
and all
Judea and the whole region around the Jordan.
But when he saw many of the
Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath
warned you to
flee from the wrath to come?
But when John saw many of the
Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his place of baptism, he said to them, “You
brood of vipers, who
warned you to
flee from the coming wrath?
And think not to say within
yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
And do not
presume to say to
yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
And now also the
axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is
hewn down,
and cast into the fire.
The
axe lies ready at the root of the trees,
and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down
and thrown into the fire.
I indeed
baptize you with water unto
repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose
shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall
baptize you with the Holy Ghost,
and with fire:
I
baptize you with water for
repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose
sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit
and with fire.
Whose
fan is in his hand,
and he will throughly
purge his floor,
and gather his wheat into the
garner; but he will burn up the
chaff with
unquenchable fire.
But John
forbad him, saying, I have need to be
baptized of thee,
and comest thou to me?
But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be
baptized by You,
and do You come to me?”
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
“Let it be so now,” Jesus replied. “It is fitting for us to
fulfill all righteousness in this way.” Then John permitted Him.
And Jesus, when he was
baptized, went up
straightway out of the water:
and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him,
and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a
dove,
and lighting upon him:
As soon as Jesus was
baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened,
and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a
dove and resting on Him.
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
And a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!”
And when he had fasted forty days
and forty nights, he was afterward an
hungred.
After fasting forty days
and forty nights, He was
hungry.
And when the
tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
The
tempter came to Him
and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city,
and setteth him on a
pinnacle of the temple,
Then the devil took Him to the holy city
and set Him on the
pinnacle of the temple.
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast
thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee:
and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou
dash thy foot against a stone.
“If You are the Son of God,” he said, “throw
Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You,
and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’”
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou
wilt fall down
and worship me.
“All this I will give You,” he said, “if You will fall down and worship me.”
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence,
Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God,
and him only shalt thou serve.
“Away from Me,
Satan!” Jesus declared. “For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God
and serve Him only.’”
Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Then the devil left Him, and angels came and ministered to Him.
And leaving
Nazareth, he came
and dwelt in
Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon
and Nephthalim:
The land of Zabulon,
and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles;
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has
dawned.”
From that time Jesus began to
preach,
and to say,
Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
From that time on Jesus began to
preach, “
Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
And Jesus, walking by the sea of
Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter,
and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of
Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter
and his brother
Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were
fishermen.
