And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
Therefore
Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord
being old also?
So she
laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?”
And while he
lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD
being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
But when Lot
hesitated, the men
grabbed his hand and the hands of his wife and his two daughters. And they led them safely out of the city, because of the LORD’s
compassion for them.
And Abraham
circumcised his son Isaac
being eight days old, as God had commanded him.
When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham
circumcised him, as God had commanded him.
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren.
saying, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not
withheld His kindness and faithfulness from my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey to the house of my master’s relatives.”
And Jacob said to
Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to
stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the
Canaanites and the
Perizzites: and I
being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and
slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.
Then Jacob said to
Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble upon me by making me a
stench to the
Canaanites and
Perizzites, the people of this land. We are few in number; if they unite against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed.”
And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people,
being old and full of days: and his sons
Esau and Jacob buried him.
Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons
Esau and Jacob buried him.
These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph,
being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the
lad was with the sons of
Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.
This is the account of Jacob. When Joseph was seventeen years old, he was tending the flock with his brothers, the sons of his father’s wives
Bilhah and Zilpah, and he brought their father a bad report about them.
When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said,
Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the
signet, and bracelets, and staff.

being brought out, Tamar sent a message to her father-in-law: “I am
pregnant by the man to whom these items belong.” And she added, “Please examine them. Whose seal and cord and staff are these?”
And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the
butler and the
baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
both of these men—the Egyptian king’s
cupbearer and
baker, who were
being held in the prison—had a dream on the same night, and each dream had its own meaning.
And they said one to another, We are
verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the
anguish of his soul, when he
besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
Then they said to one another, “Surely we are
being punished because of our brother. We saw his
anguish when he
pleaded with us, but we would not
listen. That is why this distress has come upon us.”
So Joseph died,
being an hundred and ten years old: and they
embalmed him, and he was put in a
coffin in Egypt.
So Joseph died at the age of 110. And they
embalmed his body and placed it in a
coffin in Egypt.
There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.
No straw has been given to your servants, yet we are told, ‘Make bricks!’ Look, your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.”
And the people took their
dough before it was
leavened, their kneadingtroughs
being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD
slew all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the
firstborn of man, and the
firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the
matrix,
being males; but all the
firstborn of my children I
redeem.
And when Pharaoh
stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of man and beast. This is why I sacrifice to the LORD the
firstborn male of every
womb, but I
redeem all the
firstborn of my sons.’
And if a man
borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be
hurt, or die, the owner thereof
being not with it, he shall surely make it good.
If a man borrows an animal from his
neighbor and it is injured or dies while its owner is not present, he must make full
restitution.
Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
“You shall not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked by
being a
malicious witness.
Foursquare it shall be
being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.
It must be square when folded over double, a span long and a span wide.
And he said, It is not the voice of them that
shout for
mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for
being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.
But Moses replied: “It is neither the cry of victory nor the cry of defeat; I hear the sound of singing!”
It was
foursquare; they made the
breastplate double: a span was the length thereof, and a span the breadth thereof,
being doubled.
It was square when folded over double, a span long and a span wide.
And he that is to be
cleansed shall wash his clothes, and
shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean: and after that he shall come into the camp, and shall
tarry abroad out of his tent seven days.
The one
being cleansed must wash his clothes,
shave off all his hair, and
bathe with water; then he will be
ceremonially clean. Afterward, he may enter the camp, but he must remain outside his tent for seven days.
But he shall not
defile himself,
being a chief man among his people, to
profane himself.
He is not to
defile himself for those related to him by marriage, and so
profane himself.
Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually,
being taken from the children of Israel by an
everlasting covenant.
Every Sabbath day the bread is to be set out before the LORD on behalf of the Israelites as a permanent covenant.
These are those that were numbered, which Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: each one was for the house of his fathers.
These were the men numbered by Moses and Aaron, with the assistance of the twelve leaders of Israel, each one representing his family.
And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an
atonement for him, for that he
sinned by the dead, and shall
hallow his head that same day.
And the priest is to offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to make
atonement for him, because he has
sinned by
being in the presence of the dead body. On that day he must
consecrate his head again.
And the clean person shall
sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall
purify himself, and wash his clothes, and
bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.
The man who is
ceremonially clean is to
sprinkle the unclean person on the third day and on the seventh day. After he purifies the unclean person on the seventh day, the one
being cleansed must wash his clothes and
bathe in water, and that evening he will be clean.
But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow passage between two vineyards, with walls on either side.
If a woman also
vow a
vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond,
being in her father’s house in her youth;
And if a woman in her father’s house during her youth makes a
vow to the LORD or obligates herself by a
pledge,
These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father’s house.
These are the statutes that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the relationship between a man and his wife, and between a father and a young daughter still in his home.
And the
booty,
being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,
and this
plunder remained from the spoils the soldiers had taken: 675,000 sheep,
And
Nebo, and
Baal-meon, (their names
being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.
as well as
Nebo and
Baal-meon (whose names were changed), and Sibmah. And they renamed the cities they rebuilt.
And the rest of
Gilead, and all
Bashan,
being the kingdom of
Og, gave I unto the half tribe of
Manasseh; all the region of
Argob, with all
Bashan, which was called the land of giants.
If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between
plea and
plea, and between stroke and stroke,
being matters of controversy within thy gates: then shalt thou arise, and get thee up into the place which the LORD thy God shall choose;
If a case is too difficult for you to judge, whether the controversy within your gates is regarding
bloodshed, lawsuits, or assaults, you must go up to the place the LORD your God will choose.
Then they shall bring out the
damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the
whore in her father’s house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.
she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house, and there the men of her city will stone her to death. For she has committed an
outrage in Israel by
being promiscuous in her father’s house. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the
damsel, because she
cried not,
being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour’s wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
you must take both of them out to the gate of that city and stone them to death—the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he has
violated his
neighbor’s wife. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
For their rock is not like our Rock, even our enemies
concede.
And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
and commanded the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God
being carried by the
Levitical priests, you are to set out from your positions and follow it.
Now therefore ye are
cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from
being bondmen, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.
Now therefore you are under a
curse and will perpetually serve as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.”
For it was of the LORD to
harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.
For it was of the LORD to
harden their hearts to
engage Israel in battle, so that they would be set apart for destruction and would receive no mercy,
being annihilated as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot.
to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them:
And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of
Nun, the servant of the LORD, died,
being an hundred and ten years old.
Some time later, Joshua son of
Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.
And Joshua the son of
Nun, the servant of the LORD, died,
being an hundred and ten years old.
And Joshua son of
Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.
And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and
slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal,
being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he
hid himself.
He went to his father’s house in Ophrah, and on one stone murdered his seventy brothers, the sons of Jerubbaal. But Jotham, the youngest son of Jerubbaal, survived, because he
hid himself.
But Samuel ministered before the LORD,
being a child,
girded with a linen
ephod.
Now Samuel was ministering before the LORD—a boy wearing a linen
ephod.
And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck
brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.
As soon as the ark of God was mentioned,
Eli fell backward from his chair by the city gate, and
being old and heavy, he broke his neck and died. And
Eli had judged Israel forty years.
For rebellion is as the sin of
witchcraft, and
stubbornness is as iniquity and
idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from
being king.
For rebellion is like the sin of
divination, and
arrogance is like the wickedness of
idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has rejected you as king.”
And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.
“I will not return with you,” Samuel replied. “For you have rejected the word of the LORD, and He has rejected you as king over Israel.”
Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill
afar off; a great space
being between them:
Then David crossed to the other side and stood
atop the mountain at a distance; there was a wide gulf between them.
And David
gat him a name when he returned from
smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt,
being eighteen thousand men.
And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
And he said unto him, Why art thou,
being the king’s son,
lean from day to day?
wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.
so he asked Amnon, “Why are you, the son of the king, so depressed morning after morning? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon replied, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother
Absalom’s sister.”
Howbeit he would not
hearken unto her voice: but,
being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.
But Amnon refused to
listen to her, and
being stronger, he
violated her and lay with her.
And Ishbi-benob, which was of the sons of the
giant, the weight of whose
spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he
being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
Then Ishbi-benob, a
descendant of Rapha, whose bronze
spear weighed three hundred shekels and who was bearing a new sword, resolved to kill David.
And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when
Joab heard the sound of the
trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city
being in an
uproar?
Now Adonijah and all his guests were finishing their feast when they heard the sound of the ram’s horn. “Why is the city in such a loud
uproar?” asked
Joab.
So Solomon thrust out
Abiathar from
being priest unto the LORD; that he might fulfil the word of the LORD, which he spake concerning the house of
Eli in
Shiloh.
So Solomon banished
Abiathar from the priesthood of the LORD and thus fulfilled the word that the LORD had spoken at
Shiloh against the house of
Eli.
And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor
axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.
The temple was constructed using finished stones cut at the
quarry, so that no hammer or
chisel or any other iron tool was heard in the temple while it was
being built.
That
Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father’s servants with him, to go into Egypt;
Hadad being yet a little child.
But
Hadad, still just a young boy, had fled to Egypt, along with some Edomites who were servants of his father.
And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from
being queen, because she had made an
idol in a
grove; and
Asa destroyed her
idol, and burnt it by the
brook Kidron.
And also by the hand of the prophet
Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against
Baasha, and against his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in
provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in
being like the house of
Jeroboam; and because he killed him.
Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet
Jehu son of Hanani against
Baasha and his house, because of all the evil he had done in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands and becoming like the house of
Jeroboam, and also because
Baasha had struck down the house of
Jeroboam.
Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
So
Ahab assembled the young officers of the district governors, and there were 232 men. And after them, he assembled the rest of the
Israelite troops, 7,000 in all.
And in the fifth year of
Joram the son of
Ahab king of Israel,
Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of
Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
In the fifth year of the reign of
Joram son of
Ahab over Israel, Jehoram son of
Jehoshaphat succeeded his father as king of Judah.
Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will
hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to
Jezreel by to
morrow this time. Now the king’s sons,
being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
Then
Jehu wrote them a second letter and said: “If you are on my side, and if you will obey me, then bring the heads of your master’s sons to me at
Jezreel by this time
tomorrow.” Now the sons of the king, seventy in all, were
being brought up by the leading men of the city.
But Jehosheba daughter of King
Joram, the sister of
Ahaziah, took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were
being murdered. She put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom to hide him from
Athaliah, and he was not killed.
And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
Then they would put the counted money into the hands of those who
supervised the work on the house of the LORD, who in turn would pay those doing the work—the carpenters, builders,
And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of
Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers,
being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entry.
Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of
Korah, and his relatives from the Korahites were assigned to guard the thresholds of the Tent, just as their fathers had been assigned to guard the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD.
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the
pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore
advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
between three years of famine, three months of
being swept away before your enemies and overtaken by their swords, or three days of the sword of the LORD—days of plague upon the land, with the angel of the LORD
ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the
purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
but their duty was to assist the descendants of Aaron with the service of the house of the LORD,
being responsible for the courts and chambers, the
purification of all the holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God,
And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the
scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and
Zadok the priest, and
Ahimelech the son of
Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household
being taken for
Eleazar, and one taken for
Ithamar.
The
scribe, Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a
Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officers:
Zadok the priest,
Ahimelech son of
Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites—one family
being taken from
Eleazar, and then one from
Ithamar.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
I will establish his kingdom
forever, if he
resolutely carries out My commandments and ordinances, as is
being done this day.’
Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of
Asaph, of Heman, of
Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren,
being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and
psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with
trumpets:)
all the
Levitical singers—
Asaph, Heman,
Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, accompanied by 120 priests sounding
trumpets.
And
Abijah set the battle in
array with an army of
valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men:
Jeroboam also set the battle in
array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men,
being mighty men of valour.
Abijah went into battle with an army of 400,000 chosen men, while
Jeroboam drew up in formation against him with 800,000 chosen and mighty men of
valor.
And also concerning Maachah the mother of
Asa the king, he removed her from
being queen, because she had made an
idol in a
grove: and
Asa cut down her
idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the
brook Kidron.
Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without
being desired.
Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the
sepulchres of the kings.
Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He died, to no one’s
regret, and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took
Joash the son of
Ahaziah, and
stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his
nurse in a
bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of
Ahaziah,)
hid him from
Athaliah, so that she
slew him not.
But Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram took
Joash son of
Ahaziah and
stole him away from among the sons of the king who were
being murdered, and she put him and his
nurse in a
bedroom. Because Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the priest, was
Ahaziah’s sister, she
hid Joash from
Athaliah so that she could not kill him.
And Uzziah the king was a
leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house,
being a
leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
So King Uzziah was a
leper until the day of his death. He lived in
isolation,
leprous and cut off from the house of the LORD, while his son Jotham had charge of the royal palace to
govern the people of the land.
Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of
Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.
Let it be known to the king that we went into the province of Judah, to the house of the great God. The people are rebuilding it with large stones, and placing timbers in the walls. This work is
being carried out
diligently and is
prospering in their hands.
Also I have made a decree, that
whosoever shall alter this word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and
being set up, let him be
hanged thereon; and let his house be made a
dunghill for this.
I also decree that if any man interferes with this directive, a beam is to be
torn from his house and raised up, and he is to be impaled on it. And his own house shall be made a pile of
rubble for this
offense.
And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and
being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their
trespass.
Maaseiah,
Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah. They
pledged to send their wives away, and for their guilt they presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.
But when
Sanballat the Horonite and
Tobiah the
Ammonite official heard about this, they were deeply disturbed that someone had come to seek the well-
being of the Israelites.
But it came to pass, that when
Sanballat, and
Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the
Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very
wroth,
When
Sanballat and
Tobiah, together with the Arabs,
Ammonites, and Ashdodites, heard that the repair to the walls of Jerusalem was progressing and that the gaps were
being closed, they were
furious,
And I said, Should such a man as I
flee? and who is there, that,
being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
But I replied, “Should a man like me run away? Should one like me go into the temple to save his own life? I will not go!”
So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
So they read from the Book of the Law of God, explaining it and giving insight, so that the people could understand what was being read.
In those days saw I in Judah some
treading winepresses on the sabbath, and bringing in
sheaves, and
lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I
testified against them in the day wherein they sold
victuals.
In those days I saw people in Judah
treading winepresses on the Sabbath and bringing in grain and loading it on
donkeys, along with wine, grapes, and figs. All kinds of goods were
being brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. So I
warned them against selling food on that day.
In the third year of his reign, he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him:
In the third year of his reign,
Xerxes held a feast for all his officials and servants. The military leaders of Persia and Media were there, along with the nobles and princes of the provinces.
And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels
being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king.
Beverages were served in an
array of goblets of gold, each with a different design, and the royal wine flowed freely, according to the king’s
bounty.
The posts went out,
being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in
Shushan the palace. And the king and
Haman sat down to drink; but the city
Shushan was
perplexed.
The couriers left,
spurred on by the king’s command, and the edict was issued in the citadel of
Susa. Then the king and
Haman sat down to drink, but the city of
Susa was in confusion.
All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that
whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden
sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
“All the royal officials and the people of the king’s provinces know that one law applies to every man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without
being summoned—that he be put to death. Only if the king extends the gold
scepter may that person live. But I have not been summoned to appear before the king for the past thirty days.”
So the posts that
rode upon mules and camels went out,
being hastened and pressed on by the king’s commandment. And the decree was given at
Shushan the palace.
The couriers
rode out in
haste on their royal horses, pressed on by the command of the king. And the edict was also issued in the citadel of
Susa.
Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
Consider now, I
plead: Who,
being innocent, has ever perished? Or where have the upright been destroyed?
One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
One man dies full of
vigor, completely secure and at ease.
So Job died, being old and full of days.
And so Job died, old and full of years.
The fear of the LORD is clean,
enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true,
being altogether righteous.
Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly

ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Let them

yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be
magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
But a man,
despite his wealth, cannot
endure; he is like the beasts that perish.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Surely You desire truth in the inmost being; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains;
being girded with power:
You formed the mountains by Your power, having
girded Yourself with might.
They that
hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me,
being mine enemies
wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.
Those who
hate me without cause outnumber the hairs of my head; many are those who would destroy me— my enemies for no reason. Though I did not
steal, I must repay.
The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
The archers of Ephraim turned back on the day of battle.
