For all manner of
trespass, whether it be for ox, for
ass, for sheep, for
raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall
condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.
In all cases of
illegal possession of an ox, a
donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any lost
item that someone
claims, ‘This is mine,’ both parties shall bring their cases before the judges. The one whom the judges find guilty must pay back double to his
neighbor.
And he struck it into the pan, or
kettle, or
caldron, or pot; all that the
fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in
Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
and
plunge it into the pan or
kettle or cauldron or
cooking pot. And the priest would
claim for himself whatever the meat
fork brought up. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to
Shiloh.
And
Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man
deputed of the king to hear thee.
Absalom would say, “Look, your
claims are good and right, but the king has no deputy to hear you.”
And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye
despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
“We have ten shares in the king,” answered the men of Israel, “so we have more
claim to David than you. Why then do you
despise us? Were we not the first to speak of restoring our king?” But the men of Judah pressed even harder than the men of Israel.
Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom
dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
You
claim to have a
strategy and strength for war, but these are empty words. In whom are you now trusting, that you have rebelled against me?
Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will
prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor
memorial, in Jerusalem.
So I answered them and said, “The God of heaven is the One who will grant us success. We, His servants, will start rebuilding, but you have no portion, right, or claim in Jerusalem.”
Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.
So do not
claim, ‘We have found wisdom; let God, not man,
refute him.’
Then I
beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it;
yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
I saw every work of God, and that a man is unable to
comprehend the work that is done under the sun.
Despite his efforts to search it out, he cannot find its meaning; even if the wise man
claims to know, he is unable to
comprehend.
Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.
Or let them lay
claim to My protection; let them make peace with Me—
yes, let them make peace with Me.”
I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom
dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
You
claim to have a
strategy and strength for war, but these are empty words. In whom are you now trusting, that you have rebelled against me?
Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is
hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
Why do you say, O Jacob, and why do you assert, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD, and my
claim is
ignored by my God”?
I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine
idol hath done them, and my
graven image, and my
molten image, hath commanded them.
Therefore I declared it to you long ago; I
announced it before it came to pass, so that you could not
claim, ‘My
idol has done this; my carved image and
molten god has ordained it.’
They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
They are created now, and not long ago; you have not heard of them before
today. So you cannot
claim, ‘I already knew them!’
And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even
punish that man and his house.
As for the prophet or priest or
anyone who
claims, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ I will
punish that man and his household.
But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
But if you claim, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ then this is what the LORD says: Because you have said, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ and I specifically told you not to make this claim,
For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
For he has sent to us in Babylon,
claiming: Since the exile will be
lengthy, build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat their produce.’”
For
Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore
dost thou
prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;
For
Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying: “Why are you
prophesying like this? You
claim that the LORD says, ‘Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.
Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.
Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his portion there among the people.
Where are now your prophets which
prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
Where are your prophets who
prophesied to you,
claiming, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you or this land’?
They have seen vanity and lying
divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would
confirm the word.
They see false visions and speak lying divinations. They
claim, ‘Thus declares the LORD,’ when the LORD did not send them; yet they wait for the
fulfillment of their message.
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.
Seek good, not evil, so that you may live. And the LORD, the God of Hosts, will be with you, as you have claimed.
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subject to violence, and the violent lay claim to it.
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall
deceive many.
For many will come in My name,
claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will
deceive many.
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall
deceive many.
Many will come in My name,
claiming, ‘I am He,’ and will
deceive many.
He said therefore, A certain
nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
So He said, “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to lay
claim to his
kingship and then return.
And he said, Take
heed that ye be not
deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.
Jesus answered, “See to it that you are not
deceived. For many will come in My name,
claiming, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them.
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou
thyself?
Are You greater than our father Abraham? He died, as did the prophets. Who do You claim to be?”
Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
Some claimed that he was, but others said, “No, he just looks like him.” But the man kept saying, “I am the one.”
Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
“If you were blind,” Jesus replied, “you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, your guilt remains.”
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
The multitude of believers was one in heart and soul. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they owned.
For before these days rose up Theudas,
boasting himself to be
somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to
nought.
Some time ago Theudas rose up,
claiming to be
somebody, and about four hundred men joined him. He was killed, all his followers were
dispersed, and it all came to nothing.
But there was a certain man, called Simon, which
beforetime in the same city used
sorcery, and
bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
Prior to that time, a man named Simon had practiced
sorcery in the city and
astounded the people of Samaria. He
claimed to be someone great,
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools,
And not rather, (as we be
slanderously reported, and as some
affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose
damnation is just.
Why not say, as some
slanderously claim that we say, “Let us do evil that good may result”? Their
condemnation is deserved!
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our
sufficiency is of God;
Not that we are competent in ourselves to
claim that anything comes from us, but our
competence comes from God.
What
doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
If
anyone claims to be in the light but hates his brother, he is still in the darkness.
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy
patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
I know your deeds, your labor, and your
perseverance. I know that you cannot
tolerate those who are evil, and you have tested and exposed as liars those who falsely
claim to be apostles.
I know thy works, and
tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the
blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the
synagogue of
Satan.
I know your
affliction and your poverty—though you are rich! And I am aware of the
slander of those who falsely
claim to be Jews, but are in fact a
synagogue of
Satan.
Behold, I will make them of the
synagogue of
Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
Look at those who belong to the
synagogue of
Satan, who
claim to be Jews but are liars instead. I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and they will know that I love you.
