He shall
dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not
oppress him.
Let him live among you wherever he chooses, in the town of his pleasing. Do not
oppress him.
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
When brothers
dwell together and one of them dies without a son, the widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother is to take her as his wife and
fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law for her.
And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein;
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you take possession of it and settle in it,
That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a
basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there.
you are to take some of the firstfruits of all your produce from the soil of the land that the LORD your God is giving you and put them in a
basket. Then go to the place the LORD your God will choose as a
dwelling for His Name,
And thou shalt
rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the
Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
So you shall
rejoice—you, the
Levite, and the foreigner
dwelling among you—in all the good things the LORD your God has given to you and your household.
Thou shalt
betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not
dwell therein: thou shalt plant a
vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
You will be
pledged in marriage to a woman, but another man will
violate her. You will build a house but will not live in it. You will plant a
vineyard but will not enjoy its fruit.
That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest
cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest
dwell in the land which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
and that you may love the LORD your God, obey Him, and hold fast to Him. For He is your life, and He will
prolong your life in the land that the LORD
swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the LORD shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.
Concerning Benjamin he said: “May the beloved of the LORD rest secure in Him; God shields him all day long, and upon His shoulders he rests.”
And of
Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth
Gad: he
dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head.
Concerning
Gad he said: “Blessed is he who enlarges the
domain of
Gad! He lies down like a lion and tears off an arm or a head.
The eternal God is thy refuge, and
underneath are the
everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
The eternal God is your
dwelling place, and
underneath are the
everlasting arms. He drives out the enemy before you, giving the command, ‘Destroy him!’
Israel then shall
dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down
dew.
So Israel
dwells securely; the fountain of Jacob lives untroubled in a land of grain and new wine, where even the heavens
drip with
dew.
And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land
faint because of you.
and said to them, “I know that the LORD has given you this land and that the fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who dwell in the land are melting in fear of you.
And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do
faint because of us.
“The LORD has surely delivered the entire land into our hands,” they said to Joshua. “Indeed, all who dwell in the land are melting in fear of us.”
And Joshua saved
Rahab the
harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she
dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she
hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to
spy out
Jericho.
And Joshua
spared Rahab the
prostitute, with her father’s household and all who belonged to her, because she
hid the men Joshua had sent to
spy out
Jericho. So she has lived among the Israelites to this day.
And the men of Israel said unto the
Hivites,
Peradventure ye
dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you?
But the men of Israel said to the
Hivites, “Perhaps you
dwell near us. How can we make a treaty with you?”
And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye
beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye
dwell among us?
Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said, “Why did you
deceive us by telling us you live far away from us, when in fact you live among us?
And the men of
Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to
Gilgal, saying,
Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the
Amorites that
dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
Then the men of
Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at
Gilgal: “Do not
abandon your servants. Come quickly and save us! Help us, because all the kings of the
Amorites from the hill country have joined forces against us.”
Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.
but the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites. So Geshur and Maacath dwell among the Israelites to this day.
And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the
Amorites, which reigned in
Heshbon, whom Moses
smote with the princes of
Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon,
dwelling in the country.
all the cities of the plateau and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the
Amorites, who reigned in
Heshbon until Moses killed him and the chiefs of
Midian (Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba), the princes of Sihon who lived in the land.
For the children of Joseph were two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to
dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.
The descendants of Joseph became two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion of the land was given to the Levites, except for cities in which to live, along with pasturelands for their flocks and herds.
As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
But the descendants of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the descendants of Judah.
But they did not drive out the
Canaanites who lived in
Gezer. So the
Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day, but they are forced laborers.
Yet the children of
Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the
Canaanites would
dwell in that land.
But the descendants of
Manasseh were unable to occupy these cities, because the
Canaanites were determined to stay in this land.
And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the
Canaanites that
dwell in the land of the valley have
chariots of iron, both they who are of Beth-shean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of
Jezreel.
“The hill country is not enough for us,” they replied, “and all the
Canaanites who live in the valley have iron
chariots, both in Beth-shean with its towns and in the Valley of
Jezreel.”
And when he that
doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may
dwell among them.
When someone flees to one of these cities, stands at the entrance of the city gate, and states his case before its elders, they are to bring him into the city and give him a place to live among them.
And he shall
dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the
slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
He is to stay in that city until he stands trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest serving at that time. Then the
manslayer may return to his own home in the city from which he fled.”
And they spake unto them at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan, saying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to
dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.
at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan and said to them, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities in which to live, together with pasturelands for our
livestock.”
Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD, wherein the LORD’S tabernacle
dwelleth, and take possession among us: but
rebel not against the LORD, nor
rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the LORD our God.
If indeed the land of your inheritance is unclean, then cross over to the land of the LORD’s possession, where the LORD’s tabernacle stands, and take possession of it among us. But do not
rebel against the LORD or against us by building for
yourselves an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God.
And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
So I gave you a land on which you did not
toil and cities that you did not build, and now you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land ye
dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for
yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the
Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”
And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
The Benjamites, however, failed to drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the Benjamites.
Neither did
Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of
Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of
Megiddo and her towns: but the
Canaanites would
dwell in that land.
At that time
Manasseh failed to drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean, Taanach,
Dor, Ibleam,
Megiddo, and their villages; for the
Canaanites were determined to
dwell in that land.
But the
Amorites would
dwell in mount Heres in
Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
And the
Amorites were determined to
dwell in Mount Heres,
Aijalon, and Shaalbim. But when the house of Joseph grew in strength, they pressed the
Amorites into forced labor.
Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of
Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.
Most blessed among women is Jael, the wife of
Heber the Kenite, most blessed of tent-
dwelling women.
And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land ye
dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.
And I said to you: ‘I am the LORD your God. You must not fear the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land you
dwell.’ But you did not obey Me.”
And
Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not
dwell in
Shechem.
Abimelech stayed in Arumah, and Zebul drove Gaal and his brothers out of
Shechem.
And
Micah said unto him,
Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year, and a suit of
apparel, and thy
victuals. So the
Levite went in.
“Stay with me,”
Micah said to him, “and be my father and priest, and I will give you ten shekels of silver per year, a suit of clothes, and your provisions.” So the
Levite went in
And the
Levite was content to
dwell with the man; and the young man was unto him as one of his sons.
and agreed to stay with him, and the young man became like a son to
Micah.
In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.
In those days there was no king in Israel, and the tribe of the Danites was looking for territory to occupy. For up to that time they had not come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.
And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other
Ruth: and they
dwelled there about ten years.
who took
Moabite women as their wives, one named Orpah and the other named
Ruth. And after they had lived in Moab about ten years,
Wherefore
kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my
habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make
yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
Why then do you
kick at My sacrifice and offering that I have prescribed for My
dwelling place? You have honored your sons more than Me by
fattening yourselves with the best of all the offerings of My people Israel.’
And thou shalt see an enemy in my
habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
You will see distress in My
dwelling place.
Despite all that is good in Israel, no one in your house will ever again reach old age.
So the people sent to
Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which
dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of
Eli,
Hophni and
Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
So the people sent men to
Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the LORD of Hosts, who sits enthroned between the
cherubim. And the two sons of
Eli,
Hophni and
Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers
cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them
dwell in this place.
When Jacob went to Egypt, your fathers
cried out to the LORD, and He sent them Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.
And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and
Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye
dwelled safe.
So the LORD sent Jerubbaal,
Barak,
Jephthah, and Samuel, and He delivered you from the hands of your enemies on every side, and you dwelt securely.
And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let me be assigned a place in one of the outlying towns, so I can live there. For why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”
And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring
tidings to
Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he
dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.
David did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to
Gath, for he said, “Otherwise they will report us, saying, ‘This is what David did.’” And this was David’s custom the whole time he lived in
Philistine territory.
And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
And he and all his troops set out for Baale of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name— the name of the LORD of Hosts, who is enthroned between the
cherubim that are on it.
That the king said unto
Nathan the prophet, See now, I
dwell in an house of
cedar, but the ark of God
dwelleth within curtains.
he said to
Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of
cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”
Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?
“Go and tell My servant David that this is what the LORD says: Are you the one to build for Me a house to dwell in?
Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved about with a tent as My dwelling.
Moreover I will
appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may
dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness
afflict them any more, as
beforetime,
And I will provide a place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may
dwell in a place of their own and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah,
abide in tents; and my lord
Joab, and the servants of my lord, are
encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
Uriah answered, “The ark and Israel and Judah are
dwelling in tents, and my master
Joab and his soldiers are camped in the open field. How can I go to my house to eat and drink and sleep with my wife? As surely as you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do such a thing!”
For thy servant
vowed a
vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.
For your servant made a
vow while
dwelling in Geshur of
Aram, saying: ‘If indeed the LORD brings me back to Jerusalem, I will worship the LORD in
Hebron.’”
And the king said unto
Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and
shew me both it, and his
habitation:
Then the king said to
Zadok, “Return the ark of God to the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, He will bring me back and let me see both it and His
dwelling place again.
And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and
dwell there, and go not forth thence any
whither.
Then the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “Build a house for
yourself in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go
anywhere else.
And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
One woman said, “Please, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house, and I gave birth while she was in the house.
And I will
dwell among the children of Israel, and will not
forsake my people Israel.
And I will
dwell among the Israelites and will not
abandon My people Israel.”
Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in thick darkness.
Then Solomon declared: “The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud.
I have surely built thee an house to
dwell in, a settled place for thee to
abide in for ever.
I have indeed built You an
exalted house, a place for You to
dwell forever.”
But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
But will God indeed dwell upon the earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
And
hearken thou to the
supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy
dwelling place: and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your
dwelling place. May You hear and
forgive.
Then hear thou in heaven thy
dwelling place, and
forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)
be heard by You from heaven, Your
dwelling place. And may You
forgive and act, and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart—for You alone know the hearts of all men—
Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
Then hear thou their prayer and their
supplication in heaven thy
dwelling place, and maintain their cause,
then may You hear from heaven, Your
dwelling place, their prayer and petition, and may You
uphold their cause.
Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and
dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to
sustain thee.
“Get up and go to Zarephath of
Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”
So she wrote letters in
Ahab’s name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city,
dwelling with
Naboth.
Then
Jezebel wrote letters in
Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived with
Naboth in his city.
And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.
and
Elisha said to Gehazi, “Now tell her, ‘Look, you have gone to all this trouble for us. What can we do for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?’” “I have a home among my own people,” she replied.
And the sons of the prophets said unto
Elisha, Behold now, the place where we
dwell with thee is too strait for us.
Now the sons of the prophets said to
Elisha, “Please take note that the place where we meet with you is too small for us.
Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
Please let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a log so we can build ourselves a place to live there.” “Go,” said
Elisha.
And so it was at the beginning of their
dwelling there, that they feared not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which
slew some of them.
Now when the settlers first lived there, they did not worship the LORD, so He sent lions among them, which killed some of them.
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
Then the king of Assyria commanded: “Send back one of the priests you carried off from Samaria, and have him go back to live there and teach the requirements of the God of the land.”
And
Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which
dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
And
Hezekiah prayed before the LORD: “O LORD, God of Israel, enthroned between the
cherubim, You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.
And Gedaliah
sware to them, and to their men, and said unto them, Fear not to be the servants of the Chaldees:
dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon; and it shall be well with you.
And Gedaliah took an oath before them and their men,
assuring them, “Do not be afraid of the servants of the Chaldeans. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you.”
And these written by name came in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah, and
smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.
These who were noted by name came in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah. They attacked the Hamites and Meunites there in their
dwellings,
devoting them to destruction even to this day. Then they settled in their place, because there was pasture for their flocks.
And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order.
They ministered with song before the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. And they performed their duties according to the regulations given them.
Now these are their dwelling places throughout their castles in their coasts, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites: for theirs was the lot.
Now these were the territories assigned to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clan for their settlements, because the first lot fell to them:
And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of
Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entry.
Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of
Korah, and his relatives from the Korahites were assigned to guard the thresholds of the Tent, just as their fathers had been assigned to guard the entrance to the
dwelling of the LORD.
And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubims, whose name is called on it.
David and all Israel went up to Baalah of Judah (that is, Kiriath-jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the
cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name.
Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and
gladness are in his place.
Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy fill His
dwelling.
Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to
Nathan the prophet, Lo, I
dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.
After David had settled into his palace, he said to
Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of
cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent.”
Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:
“Go and tell My servant David that this is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build Me a house in which to dwell.
For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved from tent to tent and dwelling to dwelling.
Also I will
ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall
dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
And I will provide a place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may
dwell in a place of their own and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:
For David had said, “The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to His people and has come to
dwell in Jerusalem
forever.
And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou
didst deal with David my father, and
didst send him cedars to build him an house to
dwell therein, even so deal with me.
Then Solomon sent word to
Hiram king of Tyre: “Do for me as you did for my father David when you sent him cedars to build himself a house to live in.
Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
Then Solomon declared: “The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud;
But I have built an house of
habitation for thee, and a place for thy
dwelling for ever.
and I have built You an
exalted house, a place for You to
dwell forever.”
But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
But will God indeed dwell with man upon the earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy
dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your
dwelling place. May You hear and
forgive.
Then hear thou from heaven thy
dwelling place, and
forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
be heard by You from heaven, Your
dwelling place. And may You
forgive and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart—for You alone know the hearts of men—
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy
dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as
doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy
dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and
forgive thy people which have
sinned against thee.
then may You hear from heaven, Your
dwelling place, their prayer and petition, and may You
uphold their cause. May You
forgive Your people who
sinned against You.
That the cities which Huram had restored to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there.
Solomon rebuilt the cities
Hiram had given him and settled Israelites there.
And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not
dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy,
whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.
Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her. For he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”
And what cause
soever shall come to you of your brethren that
dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even
warn them that they
trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not
trespass.
For every dispute that comes before you from your brothers who
dwell in their cities—whether it regards
bloodshed or some other
violation of law, commandments, statutes, or ordinances—you are to
warn them, so that they will not
incur guilt before the LORD and wrath will not come upon you and your brothers. Do this, and you will not
incur guilt.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.
Then the priests and the Levites stood to
bless the people, and God heard their voice, and their prayer came into His holy
dwelling place in heaven.
And
Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, and to give
thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD.
Hezekiah reestablished the divisions of the priests and Levites—each of them according to their duties as priests or Levites—for the burnt offerings and peace offerings, for ministry, for giving
thanks, and for singing praises at the gates of the LORD’s
dwelling.
