Now
Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness
whereof he died. And
Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and
wept over his face, and said, O my
father, my
father, the
chariot of Israel, and the
horsemen thereof.
When
Elisha had fallen sick with the illness from which he would die, Jehoash king of Israel came down to him and
wept over him, saying, “My
father, my
father, the
chariots and
horsemen of Israel!”
And Jehoash the son of
Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-
hadad the son of
Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of
Jehoahaz his
father by war. Three times did
Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
Then Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz took back from Ben-
hadad son of
Hazael the cities that
Hazael had taken in battle from his
father Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-
hadad three times, and so recovered the cities of Israel.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his
father: he did according to all things as
Joash his
father did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not as his
father David had done. He did everything as his
father Joash had done.
And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he
slew his servants which had slain the king his
father.
As soon as the kingdom was firmly in his
grasp,
Amaziah executed the servants who had murdered his
father the king.
But the children of the murderers he
slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The
fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the
fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
Yet he did not put the sons of the murderers to death, but acted according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”
And Jehoash
slept with his
fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and
Jeroboam his son reigned in his
stead.
And Jehoash rested with his
fathers and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. And his son
Jeroboam reigned in his place.
And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
They carried him back on horses and buried him in Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David.
And all the people of Judah took
Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his
father Amaziah.
Then all the people of Judah took
Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his
father Amaziah.
He built
Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king
slept with his
fathers.
Azariah was the one who rebuilt
Elath and restored it to Judah after King
Amaziah rested with his
fathers.
And
Jeroboam slept with his
fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Jeroboam rested with his
fathers, the kings of Israel. And his son
Zechariah reigned in his place.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his
father Amaziah had done;
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his
father Amaziah had done.
So
Azariah slept with his
fathers; and they buried him with his
fathers in the city of David: and Jotham his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Azariah rested with his
fathers and was buried near them in the City of David. And his son Jotham reigned in his place.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his
fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his
fathers had done. He did not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
And Menahem
slept with his
fathers; and Pekahiah his son reigned in his
stead.
And Menahem rested with his fathers, and his son Pekahiah reigned in his place.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD: he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Uzziah had done.
And Jotham
slept with his
fathers, and was buried with his
fathers in the city of David his
father: and
Ahaz his son reigned in his
stead.
And Jotham rested with his
fathers and was buried with them in the City of David his
father. And his son
Ahaz reigned in his place.
Twenty years old was
Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his
father.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his
father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God.
And
Ahaz slept with his
fathers, and was buried with his
fathers in the city of David: and
Hezekiah his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Ahaz rested with his
fathers and was buried with them in the City of David, and his son
Hezekiah reigned in his place.
Yet the LORD
testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your
fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
Yet through all His prophets and seers, the LORD
warned Israel and Judah, saying, “Turn from your wicked ways and keep My commandments and statutes, according to the entire Law that I commanded your
fathers and delivered to you through My servants the prophets.”
Notwithstanding they would not hear, but
hardened their necks, like to the neck of their
fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
But they would not
listen, and they
stiffened their necks like their
fathers, who did not believe the LORD their God.
And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their
fathers, and his
testimonies which he
testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.
They rejected His statutes and the covenant He had made with their
fathers, as well as the decrees He had given them. They pursued worthless idols and themselves became worthless, going after the surrounding nations that the LORD had commanded them not to
imitate.
So these nations feared the LORD, and served their
graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their
fathers, so do they unto this day.
So these nations worshiped the LORD but also served their idols, and to this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their fathers did.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.
Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my
fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and
Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of
Eden which were in Thelasar?
Did the gods of the nations destroyed by my
fathers rescue those nations—the gods of Gozan,
Haran, and Rezeph, and of the people of
Eden in Telassar?
Turn again, and tell
Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy
father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will
heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
“Go back and tell
Hezekiah the leader of My people that this is what the LORD, the God of your
father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. I will surely
heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the house of the LORD.
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
And
Hezekiah rested with his
fathers, and his son
Manasseh reigned in his place.
For he built up again the high places which
Hezekiah his
father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for
Baal, and made a
grove, as did
Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
For he rebuilt the high places that his
father Hezekiah had destroyed, and he raised up altars for
Baal. He made an Asherah pole, as King
Ahab of Israel had done, and he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to
wander from the land that I gave to their
fathers, if only they are careful to do all I have commanded them—the whole Law that My servant Moses commanded them.”
Because they have done that which was evil in my sight, and have
provoked me to anger, since the day their
fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.
because they have done evil in My sight and have
provoked Me to anger from the day their
fathers came out of Egypt until this day.’”
And
Manasseh slept with his
fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza: and Amon his son reigned in his
stead.
And
Manasseh rested with his
fathers and was buried in his palace garden, the garden of Uzza. And his son Amon reigned in his place.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his
father Manasseh did.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his
father Manasseh had done.
And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them:
He walked in all the ways of his father, and he served and worshiped the idols his father had served.
And he
forsook the LORD God of his
fathers, and walked not in the way of the LORD.
He abandoned the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Go ye,
enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is
kindled against us, because our
fathers have not
hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me, for the people, and for all Judah concerning the words in this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that burns against us because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book by doing all that is written about us.”
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your
fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
From
Megiddo his servants carried his body in a
chariot, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. Then the people of the land took
Jehoahaz son of
Josiah,
anointed him, and made him king in place of his
father.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his fathers had done.
And Pharaoh-nechoh made Eliakim the son of
Josiah king in the room of
Josiah his
father, and turned his name to
Jehoiakim, and took
Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt, and died there.
Then Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim son of
Josiah king in place of his
father Josiah, and he changed Eliakim’s name to
Jehoiakim. But Neco took
Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt, where he died.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his fathers had done.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father had done.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his father had done.
