Having therefore these promises,
dearly beloved, let us
cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting
holiness in the
fear of God.
Therefore, beloved, since we have these promises, let us
cleanse ourselves from everything that defiles body and spirit, perfecting
holiness in the
fear of God.
For, when we were come into
Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were
fears.
For when we arrived in
Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were pressed from every direction—conflicts on the outside,
fears within.
For behold this
selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you,
yea, what clearing of
yourselves,
yea, what
indignation,
yea, what
fear,
yea, what
vehement desire,
yea, what zeal,
yea, what
revenge! In all things ye have approved
yourselves to be clear in this matter.
Consider what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear
yourselves, what
indignation, what
alarm, what longing, what zeal, what
vindication! In every way you have proved
yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with
fear and
trembling ye received him.
And his affection for you is even greater when he remembers that you were all
obedient as you
welcomed him with
fear and
trembling.
But I
fear, lest by any means, as the serpent
beguiled Eve through his
subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
I am afraid, however, that just as
Eve was
deceived by the serpent’s
cunning, your minds may be led
astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ.
For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
For I am afraid that when I come, I may not find you as I wish, and you may not find me as you wish. I
fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy,
rage,
rivalry,
slander,
gossip,
arrogance, and disorder.
And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I
preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
I went in
response to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I
preach among the Gentiles. But I spoke privately to those recognized as leaders, for
fear that I was running or had already run in vain.
For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself,
fearing them which were of the
circumcision.
For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself, for
fear of those in the
circumcision group.
I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
I fear for you, that my efforts for you may have been in vain.
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Servants, be
obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with
fear and
trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and
fear and
sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.
For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may
proclaim it
fearlessly, as I should.
And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing
confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without
fear.
And most of the brothers,
confident in the Lord by my chains, now
dare more greatly to speak the word without
fear.
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with
fear and
trembling.
Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with
fear and
trembling.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an
holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Therefore let no one judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a feast, a New Moon, or a Sabbath.
Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with
eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart,
fearing God:
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything, not only to please them while they are watching, but with
sincerity of heart and
fear of the Lord.
For this cause, when I could no longer
forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the
tempter have
tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith, for
fear that the
tempter had
somehow tempted you and caused our labor to be in vain.
Them that sin
rebuke before all, that others also may
fear.
But those who
persist in sin should be
rebuked in front of
everyone, so that the others will stand in
fear of sin.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
And deliver them who through
fear of death were all their lifetime subject to
bondage.
and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be deemed to have fallen short of it.
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud
cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
By faith
Noah, being
warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with
fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
By faith
Noah, when
warned about things not yet seen, in godly
fear built an ark to save his family. By faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
By faith he
forsook Egypt, not
fearing the wrath of the king: for he
endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
By faith Moses left Egypt, not
fearing the king’s anger; he
persevered because he saw Him who is invisible.
And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly
fear and
quake:)
Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God
acceptably with reverence and godly
fear:
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
So we say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your
sojourning here in
fear:
Since you call on a Father who judges each one’s work impartially, conduct
yourselves in
reverent fear during your stay as foreigners.
Honour all men. Love the
brotherhood.
Fear God. Honour the king.
Servants, be subject to your masters with all
fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the
froward.
Servants, submit
yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but even to those who are unreasonable.
While they behold your
chaste conversation coupled with
fear.
Even as
Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any
amazement.
just as
Sarah obeyed Abraham and called him lord. And you are her children if you do what is right and refuse to give way to
fear.
But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not
fear what they
fear; do not be
shaken.”
But
sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with
meekness and
fear:
But in your hearts
sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a
defense to
everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you. But
respond with gentleness and respect,
And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to
riot in the
daytime. Spots they are and
blemishes,
sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they
feast with you;
There is no
fear in love; but perfect love casteth out
fear: because
fear hath
torment. He that
feareth is not made perfect in love.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. The one who fears has not been perfected in love.
These are spots in your
feasts of charity, when they
feast with you, feeding themselves without
fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead,
plucked up by the roots;
These men are hidden reefs in your love
feasts,
shamelessly feasting with you but
shepherding only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried along by the wind; fruitless trees in autumn, twice dead after being uprooted.
And others save with
fear, pulling them out of the fire;
hating even the garment
spotted by the flesh.
save others by
snatching them from the fire; and to still others show mercy tempered with
fear,
hating even the clothing
stained by the flesh.
And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. But He placed His right hand on me and said, “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last,
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have
tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Do not
fear what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will suffer
tribulation for ten days. Be faithful even unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
But after the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered the two witnesses, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell upon those who saw them.
And the nations were
angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that
fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
The nations were
enraged, and Your wrath has come. The time has come to judge the dead and to reward Your servants the prophets, as well as the saints and those who
fear Your name, both small and great— and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
And he said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come. Worship the One who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and the springs of waters.”
Who shall not
fear thee, O Lord, and
glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
Who will not
fear You, O Lord, and
glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed.”
Standing
afar off for the
fear of her
torment, saying,
Alas,
alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
In
fear of her
torment, they will stand at a distance and cry out: “
Woe,
woe to the great city, the mighty city of Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come.”
The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand
afar off for the
fear of her
torment,
weeping and
wailing,
The merchants who sold these things and grew their wealth from her will stand at a distance, in
fear of her
torment. They will
weep and
mourn,
And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you who serve Him, and those who fear Him, small and great alike!”
But the
fearful, and unbelieving, and the
abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death.
But to the
cowardly and unbelieving and
abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”
And Josias held the
feast of the
passover in Jerusalem unto his Lord, and offered the
passover the
fourteenth day of the first month;
So the children of Israel which were present held the
passover at that time, and the
feast of sweet bread seven days.
Now when
Darius reigned, he made a great
feast unto all his subjects, and unto all his household, and unto all the princes of Media and Persia,
And now do ye not believe me? is not the king great in his power? do not all regions fear to touch him?
To go up, and to build Jerusalem, and the temple which is called by his name: and they
feasted with instruments of musick and
gladness seven days.
Also they held the feast of tabernacles, as it is commanded in the law, and offered sacrifices daily, as was meet:
And after that, the continual oblations, and the sacrifice of the sabbaths, and of the new moons, and of all holy feasts.
And they kept the
feast of
unleavened bread seven days, making
merry before the Lord,
When ye offer unto me, I will turn my face from you: for your solemn
feastdays, your new moons, and your circumcisions, have I
forsaken.
Fear not, thou mother of the children: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord.
Arise up and stand, behold the number of those that be sealed in the feast of the Lord;
And my spirit was
sore moved, so that I began to speak words full of
fear to the most High, and said,
And we pass away out of the world as grasshoppers, and our life is
astonishment and
fear, and we are not worthy to obtain mercy.
At that time shall friends fight one against another like enemies, and the earth shall stand in fear with those that dwell therein, the springs of the fountains shall stand still, and in three hours they shall not run.
And therefore hath he sent me to
shew thee all these things, and to say unto thee, Be of good comfort and
fear not
Whose service is
conversant in wind and fire; whose word is true, and sayings constant; whose commandment is strong, and
ordinance fearful;
Think not upon those that have walked
feignedly before thee: but remember them, which according to thy will have known thy
fear.
So when he grew up, and came to the time that he should have a wife, I made a feast.
And, behold, suddenly she made a great cry very
fearful: so that the earth
shook at the noise of the woman.
And therefore
fear not, let not thine heart be
affrighted, but go thy way in, and see the beauty and greatness of the building, as much as thine eyes be able to see:
Then saw I a dream, and, behold, there came up from the sea an eagle, which had twelve
feathered wings, and three heads.
And I
beheld, and out of her
feathers there grew other contrary
feathers; and they became little
feathers and small.
Moreover I
beheld, and, lo, the eagle
flew with her
feathers, and reigned upon earth, and over them that dwelt therein.
And I
beheld, and, lo, the eagle rose upon her talons, and spake to her
feathers, saying,
And I numbered her contrary feathers, and, behold, there were eight of them.
And I looked, and, behold, on the right side there arose one
feather, and reigned over all the earth;
Then I
beheld, and, lo, in process of time the
feathers that followed stood up upon the right side, that they might rule also; and some of them ruled, but within a while they appeared no more:
After this I looked, and, behold, the twelve feathers appeared no more, nor the two little feathers:
Then saw I also that two little feathers divided themselves from the six, and remained under the head that was upon the right side: for the four continued in their place.
And I
beheld, and, lo, the
feathers that were under the wing thought to set up themselves and to have the rule.
And, behold, the head was turned with them that were with it, and did eat up the two feathers under the wing that would have reigned.
But this head put the whole earth in
fear, and bare rule in it over all those that dwelt upon the earth with much oppression; and it had the
governance of the world more than all the wings that had been.
And the fourth came, and overcame all the beasts that were past, and had power over the world with great
fearfulness, and over the whole compass of the earth with much wicked oppression; and so long time dwelt he upon the earth with
deceit.
And therefore appear no more, thou eagle, nor thy
horrible wings, nor thy wicked
feathers nor thy
malicious heads, nor thy
hurtful claws, nor all thy vain body:
And I saw, and, behold, they appeared no more, and the whole body of the eagle was burnt so that the earth was in great
fear: then
awaked I out of the trouble and
trance of my mind, and from great
fear, and said unto my spirit,
Lo, yet am I
weary in my mind, and very weak in my spirit; and little strength is there in me, for the great
fear wherewith I was
afflicted this night.
Comfort me then, and
shew me thy servant the interpretation and plain difference of this
fearful vision, that thou mayest perfectly comfort my soul.
Behold, the days will come, that there shall rise up a kingdom upon earth, and it shall be feared above all the kingdoms that were before it.
And whereas thou sawest the eight small under feathers sticking to her wings, this is the interpretation:
And whereas thou sawest two feathers under the wings passing over the head that is on the right side;
And there came much people unto him,
whereof some were
glad, some were
sorry, and some of them were bound, and other some brought of them that were offered: then was I sick through great
fear, and I
awaked, and said,
Fear not the imaginations against thee, let not the
incredulity of them trouble thee, that speak against thee.
They that till the ground shall
mourn: for their seeds shall fail through the blasting and
hail, and with a
fearful constellation.
Where the nations of the
dragons of Arabia shall come out with many
chariots, and the multitude of them shall be carried as the wind upon earth, that all they which hear them may
fear and
tremble.
And from the land of the Assyrians shall the enemy
besiege them, and
consume some of them, and in their host shall be
fear and
dread, and
strife among their kings.
And strong winds shall arise from the east, and shall open it; and the cloud which he raised up in wrath, and the star
stirred to cause
fear toward the east and west wind, shall be destroyed.
And they that remain under her shall do service unto them that have put her in fear.
He shall cast lightnings, and who shall not
fear? he shall
thunder, and who shall not be afraid?
