Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them
pulse.
So the
steward continued to
withhold their choice
food and the wine they were to drink, and he gave them vegetables instead.
The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit was abundant, and upon it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, in its branches the birds of the air nested, and from it every creature was fed.
Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their
habitation:
whose foliage was beautiful and whose fruit was abundant, providing food for all, under which the beasts of the field lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air nested—
I
ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I
anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
I
ate no rich
food, no meat or wine entered my mouth, and I did not
anoint myself with oil until the three weeks were completed.
They shall not dwell in the LORD’S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.
They will not remain in the land of the LORD; Ephraim will return to Egypt and eat unclean food in Assyria.
Is not the meat cut off before our eyes,
yea, joy and
gladness from the house of our God?
Has not the
food been cut off before our very eyes— joy and
gladness from the house of our God?
Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their
drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat
plenteous.
Therefore he sacrifices to his
dragnet and burns incense to his fishing net, for by these things his portion is
sumptuous and his
food is rich.
Although the fig tree shall not
blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no
herd in the stalls:
Though the fig tree does not
bud and no fruit is on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no
food, though the sheep are cut off from the fold and no cattle are in the stalls,
If one bear holy flesh in the
skirt of his garment, and with his
skirt do touch bread, or
pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
If a man carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread,
stew, wine, oil, or any other
food, does that
item become holy?’” “No,” replied the priests.
Ye offer
polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we
polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
By presenting
defiled food on My altar. But you ask, ‘How have we
defiled You?’ By saying that the table of the LORD is contemptible.
But ye have
profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is
polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible.
“But you
profane it when you say, ‘The table of the Lord is
defiled, and as for its fruit, its
food is contemptible.’
Bring ye all the
tithes into the
storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now
herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Bring the full
tithe into the
storehouse, so that there may be
food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.
And the same John had his
raiment of
camel’s hair, and a
leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
John
wore a garment of
camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his
waist. His
food was locusts and wild honey.
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than
raiment?
Therefore I tell you, do not
worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than
food, and the body more than clothes?
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and
buy themselves
victuals.
When evening came, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is a
desolate place, and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds so they can go to the villages and
buy themselves some
food.”
Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household, to give the others their food at the proper time?
And John was clothed with
camel’s hair, and with a
girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
John was clothed in
camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his
waist. His
food was locusts and wild honey.
Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the
belly, and goeth out into the draught,
purging all meats?
because it does not enter his heart, but it goes into the stomach and then is
eliminated.” (Thus all
foods are clean.)
He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
John replied, “
Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and
whoever has
food should do the same.”
But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five
loaves and two fishes; except we should go and
buy meat for all this people.
But Jesus told them, “You give them something to eat.” “We have only five
loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered, “unless we go and
buy food for all these people.”
The life is more than meat, and the body is more than
raiment.
For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
And when he came to himself, he said, How many
hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to
spare, and I perish with hunger!
Finally he came to his senses and said, ‘How many of my father’s
hired servants have
plenty of
food? But here I am,
starving to death!
(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to
buy meat.)
(His disciples had gone into the town to
buy food.)
But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
But He told them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”
Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
So the disciples asked one another, “Could someone have brought Him food?”
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
Jesus explained, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto
everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
Do not work for
food that perishes, but for
food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on Him God the Father has placed His seal of
approval.”
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
For My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink.
And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a
murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily
ministration.
In those days when the disciples were increasing in number, the
Grecian Jews among them began to
grumble against the
Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of
food.
Then famine and great suffering swept across Egypt and
Canaan, and our fathers could not find
food.
And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
and after taking some food, he regained his strength. And he spent several days with the disciples in Damascus.
And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and
Sidon: but they came with one
accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s
chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was
nourished by the king’s country.
Now Herod was in a
furious dispute with the people of Tyre and
Sidon, and they
convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s
chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s country for
food.
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with
food and
gladness.
Yet He has not left Himself without testimony to His goodness: He gives you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with
food and
gladness.”
But that we write unto them, that they
abstain from pollutions of idols, and from
fornication, and from things
strangled, and from blood.
Instead, we should write and tell them to
abstain from
food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from blood.
You must
abstain from
food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from
strangled, and from
fornication.
As for the
Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they must
abstain from
food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality.”
But after long
abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have
hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from
Crete, and to have gained this
harm and loss.
After the men had gone a long time without
food, Paul stood up among them and said, “Men, you should have followed my advice not to sail from
Crete. Then you would have
averted this
disaster and loss.
And while the day was coming on, Paul
besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the
fourteenth day that ye have
tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing.
Then were they all of good
cheer, and they also took some meat.
They were all encouraged and took some food themselves.
For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of
food. All
food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to let his eating be a
stumbling block.
I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for solid food. In fact, you are still not ready,
Meats for the
belly, and the
belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for
fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
“Food for the stomach and the stomach for food,” but God will destroy them both. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an
idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
So about eating
food sacrificed to idols: We know that an
idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one.
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the
idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an
idol; and their conscience being weak is
defiled.
But not
everyone has this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such
food as if it were sacrificed to an
idol. And since their conscience is weak, it is
defiled.
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
But food does not bring us closer to God: We are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the
idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be
emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
For if someone with a weak conscience sees you who are well informed eating in an
idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged to eat
food sacrificed to idols?
Have we not power to eat and to drink?
Have we no right to food and to drink?
Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
Do you not know that those who work in the temple eat of its
food, and those who serve at the altar
partake of its offerings?
And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
They all
ate the same spiritual
food What say I then? that the
idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
Am I suggesting, then, that
food sacrificed to an
idol is anything, or that an
idol is anything?
But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the
fulness thereof:
But if someone tells you, “This food was offered to idols,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience—
Now he that ministereth seed to the
sower both minister bread for your
food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
Now He who supplies seed to the
sower and bread for
food will supply and multiply your store of seed and will increase the harvest of your righteousness.
In
weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and
thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
in labor and
toil and often without sleep, in hunger and
thirst and often without
food, in cold and exposure.
Neither did we eat any man’s bread for
nought; but wrought with labour and
travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
nor did we eat
anyone’s
food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and
toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to
abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with
thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
They will
prohibit marriage and require
abstinence from certain
foods that God has created to be received with
thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to reteach you the
basic principles of God’s word. You need milk, not solid
food!
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to
discern both good and evil.
But solid
food is for the
mature, who by constant use have trained their senses to distinguish good from evil.
Which stood only in meats and drinks, and
divers washings, and
carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
They consist only in food and drink and special washings—external regulations imposed until the time of reform.
Be not carried about with
divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace and not by foods of no value to those devoted to them.
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of
Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit
fornication.
But I have a few things against you, because some of you hold to the teaching of
Balaam, who taught Balak to place a
stumbling block before the Israelites so they would eat
food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman
Jezebel, which calleth herself a
prophetess, to teach and to
seduce my servants to commit
fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
But I have this against you: You
tolerate that woman
Jezebel, who calls herself a
prophetess. By her teaching she misleads My servants to be sexually immoral and to eat
food sacrificed to idols.
And to discover unto us a light in the house of the Lord our God, and to give us
food in the time of our
servitude.
Yea, when we were in
bondage, we were not
forsaken of our Lord; but he made us
gracious before the kings of Persia, so that they gave us
food;
To the end that they, desiring
food, might for the
ugly sight of the beasts sent among them
lothe even that, which they must needs desire; but these, suffering
penury for a short space, might be made partakers of a strange taste.
Instead
whereof thou feddest thine own people with angels’
food, and
didst send them from heaven bread prepared without their labour, able to content every man’s delight, and agreeing to every taste.
There is one that sheweth wisdom in words, and is
hated: he shall be destitute of all
food.
