Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a
maiden unto the hand of her
mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our
God, until that he have mercy upon us.
As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a
maidservant look to the hand of her
mistress, so our eyes are on the LORD our
God until He shows us mercy.
How he
sware unto the LORD, and
vowed unto the mighty
God of Jacob;
how he
swore an oath to the LORD, and
vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an
habitation for the mighty
God of Jacob.
until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

I will sing a new song unto thee, O
God: upon a
psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.

God; on a
harp of ten strings I will make music to You—
Happy is that people, that is in such a case:
yea, happy is that people, whose
God is the LORD.
Blessed are the people of whom this is so; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.

God, O

Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
Hallelujah! How good it is to sing praises to our
God, how pleasant and lovely to praise Him!
Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy
God, O
Zion.
Exalt the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your
God, O
Zion!
Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.
Hallelujah! Sing to the LORD a new song— His praise in the assembly of the
godly.
Let the high praises of
God be in their mouth, and a
twoedged sword in their hand;
May the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a double-edged sword in their hands,
Praise ye the LORD. Praise
God in his sanctuary: praise him in the
firmament of his power.
Hallelujah! Praise
God in His sanctuary. Praise Him in His mighty heavens.
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
then you will
discern the fear of the LORD and discover the knowledge of
God.
Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
who abandons the
partner of her youth and forgets the covenant of her
God.
So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man.
The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked and brings the wicked to ruin.
It is the glory of
God to
conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
It is the glory of
God to
conceal a matter and the glory of kings to search it out.
The great
God that formed all things both rewardeth the
fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
The words of
Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,
These are the words of
Agur son of Jakeh—the burden that this man declared to Ithiel: “I am
weary, O
God, and worn out.
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Every word of
God is
flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and
steal, and take the name of my
God in vain.
Otherwise, I may have too much and deny You, saying, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and
steal,
profaning the name of my
God.
And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this
sore travail hath
God given to the sons of man to be exercised
therewith.
And I set my mind to seek and
explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden
God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them!
There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.
Nothing is better for a man than to eat and drink and enjoy his work. I have also seen that this is from the hand of God.
For
God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the
sinner he giveth
travail, to gather and to
heap up, that he may give to him that is good before
God. This also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
To the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the
sinner He assigns the task of gathering and
accumulating that which he will hand over to one who pleases
God. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
I have seen the
travail, which
God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
I have seen the burden that God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them.
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set
eternity in the hearts of men, yet they cannot
fathom the work that
God has done from beginning to end.
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
and also that every man should eat and drink and find satisfaction in all his labor—this is the gift of God.
I know that,
whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and
God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
I know that everything
God does endures
forever; nothing can be added to it or taken from it.
God does it so that they should fear Him.
That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
What exists has already been, and what will be has already been, for God will call to account what has passed.
I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
I said in my heart, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked, since there is a time for every activity and every deed.”
I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
I said to myself, “As for the sons of men, God tests them so that they may see for themselves that they are but beasts.”
Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
Guard your steps when you go to the house of
God. Draw near to
listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.
Be not
rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be
hasty to utter any thing before
God: for
God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
Do not be quick to speak, and do not be
hasty in your heart to utter a word before
God. After all,
God is in heaven and you are on earth. So let your words be few.
When thou vowest a
vow unto
God,
defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast
vowed.
When you make a
vow to
God, do not delay in
fulfilling it, because He takes no pleasure in fools.
Fulfill your
vow.
Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should
God be
angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?
Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, and do not tell the
messenger that your
vow was a mistake. Why should
God be
angry with your words and destroy the work of your hands?
For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also
divers vanities: but fear thou
God.
For as many dreams bring
futility, so do many words. Therefore, fear
God.
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.
Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of life that God has given him—for this is his lot.
Every man also to whom
God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to
rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of
God.
Furthermore,
God has given riches and wealth to every man, and He has enabled him to enjoy them, to accept his lot, and to
rejoice in his labor. This is a gift from
God.
For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
For a man seldom considers the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with the joy of his heart.
A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
God gives a man riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires; but
God does not allow him to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger will enjoy them. This is
futile and a
grievous affliction.
Consider the work of
God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made
crooked?
Consider the work of
God: Who can
straighten what He has bent?
In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of
adversity consider:
God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
In the day of prosperity, be joyful, but in the day of
adversity, consider this:
God has made one of these along with the other, so that a man cannot discover anything that will come after him.
It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this;
yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth
God shall come forth of them all.
It is good to
grasp the one and not let the other slip from your hand. For he who fears
God will follow both warnings.
And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands:
whoso pleaseth
God shall escape from her; but the
sinner shall be taken by her.
And I find more bitter than death the woman who is a
snare, whose heart is a net, and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases
God escapes her, but the
sinner is ensnared.
Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
Only this have I found: I have discovered that God made men upright, but they have sought out many schemes.”
I counsel thee to keep the king’s commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.
Keep the king’s command, I say, because of your oath before God.
Though a
sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear
God, which fear before him:
Although a
sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I also know that it will go well with those who fear
God, who are
reverent in His presence.
But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he
prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before
God.
Yet because the wicked do not fear
God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not
lengthen like a shadow.
