Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have
heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries,
devoting them to destruction. Will you then be
spared?
LORD, bow down thine ear, and
hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and
hear the words of
Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to
Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against
Sennacherib king of Assyria I have
heard.
Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to
Hezekiah: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I have
heard your prayer concerning
Sennacherib king of Assyria.
Hast thou not
heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste
fenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you not
heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I
planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
I
beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect
heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And
Hezekiah wept sore.
“Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have done what was good in Your sight.” And
Hezekiah wept bitterly.
Turn again, and tell
Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have
heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will
heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
“Go back and tell
Hezekiah the leader of My people that this is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘I have
heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. I will surely
heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the house of the LORD.
At that time Berodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto
Hezekiah: for he had
heard that
Hezekiah had been sick.
At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to
Hezekiah, for he had
heard about
Hezekiah’s illness.
And
Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious
ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that
Hezekiah shewed them not.
And
Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his
treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his
armory—all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that
Hezekiah did not show them.
And Isaiah said unto
Hezekiah,
Hear the word of the LORD.
Then Isaiah said to
Hezekiah, “
Hear the word of the LORD:
But they
hearkened not: and
Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel.
But the people did not
listen and
Manasseh led them
astray, so that they did greater evil than the nations that the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.
Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that
whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall
tingle.
this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I am bringing such
calamity upon Jerusalem and Judah that the news will
reverberate in the ears of all who
hear it.
And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.
When the king
heard the words of the Book of the Law, he
tore his clothes
Go ye,
enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is
kindled against us, because our fathers have not
hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me, for the people, and for all Judah concerning the words in this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that burns against us because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book by doing all that is written about us.”
But to the king of Judah which sent you to
enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast
heard;
But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘As for the words that you heard,
Because thine
heart was tender, and thou hast humbled
thyself before the LORD, when thou
heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a
desolation and a
curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and
wept before me; I also have
heard thee, saith the LORD.
because your
heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before the LORD when you
heard what I spoke against this place and against its people, that they would become a
desolation and a
curse, and because you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have
heard you,’ declares the LORD.
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.
And he went up to the house of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as well as the priests and the prophets—all the people small and great—and in their hearing he read all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.
And the king stood by a
pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his
testimonies and his statutes with all their
heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.
So the king stood by the
pillar and made a covenant before the LORD to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his
heart and all his soul, and to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people entered into the covenant.
And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.
Neither before nor after
Josiah was there any king like him, who turned to the LORD with all his
heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, according to all the Law of Moses.
And when all the captains of the armies, they and their men,
heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, there came to Gedaliah to
Mizpah, even
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan the son of Careah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.
When all the commanders of the armies and their men
heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah as governor, they came to Gedaliah at
Mizpah—
Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan son of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah son of the Maacathite, as well as their men.
And when all
Jabesh-
gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
When the people of
Jabesh-
gilead heard about everything the Philistines had done to Saul,
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come
peaceably unto me to help me, mine
heart shall be
knit unto you: but if ye be come to
betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look
thereon, and
rebuke it.
And David went out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, my
heart will be united with you; but if you have come to
betray me to my enemies when my hands are free of violence, may the God of our fathers see it and judge you.”
Of
Zebulun, such as went forth to battle,
expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: they were not of double
heart.
From
Zebulun: 50,000 fit for service, trained for battle with all kinds of weapons of war, who with one purpose were devoted to David.
All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect
heart to
Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one
heart to make David king.
All these men of war,
arrayed for battle, came to
Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel. And all the rest of the Israelites were of one mind to make David king.
And when the Philistines
heard that David was
anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David
heard of it, and went out against them.
When the Philistines
heard that David had been
anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this and went out to face them.
And it shall be, when thou shalt
hear a sound of going in the tops of the
mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to
smite the host of the Philistines.
As soon as you
hear the sound of marching in the tops of the
balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has marched out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she
despised him in her
heart.
As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from a window and saw King David dancing and
celebrating, and she
despised him in her
heart.
Glory ye in his holy name: let the
heart of them
rejoice that seek the LORD.
Glory in His holy name; let the
hearts of those who seek the LORD
rejoice.
Then
Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine
heart; for God is with thee.
And
Nathan replied to David, “Do all that is in your
heart, for God is with you.”
O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.
O LORD. For the sake of Your servant and according to Your own heart, You have accomplished this great thing and revealed all Your greatness.
O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
O LORD, there is none like You, and there is no God but You, according to everything we have heard with our own ears.
For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou
wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his
heart to pray before thee.
For You, my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build a house for him. Therefore Your servant has found the courage to pray before You.
Now when Tou king of
Hamath heard how David had
smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;
When King Tou of
Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,
And when David
heard of it, he sent
Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
On
hearing this, David sent
Joab and the entire army of mighty men.
And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:
“My son,” said David to Solomon, “it was in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God,
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
Now set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.”
Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said,
Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine
heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the
footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
Then King David rose to his feet and said, “
Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my
heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and as a
footstool for our God. I had made preparations to build it,
Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the
audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the
hearing of our God, keep and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect
heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all
hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou
forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every
heart and understands the intent of every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you
forsake Him, He will
reject you
forever.
Then the people
rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect
heart they offered willingly to the LORD: and David the king also
rejoiced with great joy.
And the people
rejoiced at the willing
response of their leaders, for they had given to the LORD freely and wholeheartedly. And King David also
rejoiced greatly.
I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.
I know, my God, that You test the
heart and delight in uprightness. All these things I have given willingly and with an upright
heart, and now I have seen Your people who are present here giving
joyfully and willingly to You.
O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
O LORD, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep this desire
forever in the intentions of the
hearts of Your people, and direct their
hearts toward You.
And give unto Solomon my son a perfect
heart, to keep thy commandments, thy
testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.
And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep and carry out all Your commandments, decrees, and statutes, and to build Your palace for which I have made provision.”
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine
heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for
thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
God said to Solomon, “Since this was in your
heart instead of requesting riches or wealth or glory for
yourself or death for your enemies—and since you have not even requested long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge to
govern My people over whom I have made you king—
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be
heard in praising and
thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the
trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and
thank the LORD with one voice. They lifted up their voices, accompanied by
trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, in praise to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.” And the temple, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
But the LORD said to David my father,
Forasmuch as it was in thine
heart to build an house for my name, thou
didst well in that it was in thine
heart:
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:
and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his
supplication, O LORD my God, to
hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:
Yet regard the prayer and
plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may
hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You.
That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place
whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to
hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your Name, so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place:
hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou
hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You
hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You
hear and
forgive.
Then
hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by
recompensing his way upon his own head; and by
justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.
then may You
hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has done, and
justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
Then
hear thou from the heavens, and
forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.
then may You
hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your people Israel. May You restore them to the land You gave to them and their fathers.
Then
hear thou from heaven, and
forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.
then may You
hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk. May You send rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
Then
hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and
forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose
heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the
hearts of the children of men:)
be
heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You
forgive and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his
heart—for You alone know the
hearts of men—
Then
hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as
doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
Then
hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their
supplication, and maintain their cause.
then may You
hear from heaven their prayer and their
plea, and may You
uphold their cause.
If they return to thee with all their
heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity,
whither they have carried them
captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
and when they return to You with all their
heart and soul in the land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray in the direction of the land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,
Then
hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and
forgive thy people which have
sinned against thee.
then may You
hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, their prayer and petition, and may You
uphold their cause. May You
forgive Your people who
sinned against You.
And on the three and
twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents,
glad and
merry in
heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.
On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon sent the people away to their homes, joyful and
glad of
heart for the good things that the LORD had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.
Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
When Solomon had finished the house of the LORD and the royal palace, successfully carrying out all that was in his heart to do for the house of the LORD and for his own palace,
And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
the LORD appeared to him at night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I
hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin, and will
heal their land.
and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will
hear from heaven,
forgive their sin, and
heal their land.
For now have I chosen and
sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine
heart shall be there perpetually.
For I have now chosen and consecrated this temple so that My Name may be there
forever. My eyes and My
heart will be there for all time.
And when the queen of
Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her
heart.
Now when the queen of
Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon, she came to test him with difficult questions. She arrived in Jerusalem with a very large
caravan—with camels bearing spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke with him about all that was on her mind.
And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom:
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your words and wisdom is true.
Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I
heard.
But I did not believe the reports until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not half of the greatness of your wisdom was told to me. You have far exceeded the report I heard.
Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.
How blessed are your men! How blessed are these servants of yours who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom!
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.
All the kings of the earth sought an
audience with Solomon to
hear the wisdom that God had put in his
heart.
And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt,
whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king,
heard it, that
Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
When
Jeroboam son of Nebat
heard about this, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon.
So the king
hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the LORD might
fulfill the word that He had spoken through
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam son of Nebat.
And when all Israel saw that the king would not
hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of
Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
When all Israel saw that the king had refused to
listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of
Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So all the Israelites went home,
And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.
Those from every tribe of Israel who had set their hearts to seek the LORD their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.
And
Rehoboam did evil because he did not set his
heart to seek the LORD.
And
Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said,
Hear me, thou
Jeroboam, and all Israel;
Then
Abijah stood on Mount Zemaraim in the hill country of Ephraim and said, “
Hear me, O
Jeroboam and all Israel!
And he went out to meet
Asa, and said unto him,
Hear ye me,
Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye
forsake him, he will
forsake you.
So he went out to meet
Asa and said to him, “
Listen to me,
Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you
forsake Him, He will
forsake you.
And when
Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of
Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the
abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the
porch of the LORD.
When
Asa heard these words and the prophecy of
Azariah son of
Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the
detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the
portico of the LORD’s temple.
And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.
And all Judah
rejoiced at the oath: for they had
sworn with all their
heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.
And all Judah
rejoiced over the oath, for they had
sworn it with all their
heart. They had sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the
heart of
Asa was perfect all his days.
The high places were not removed from Israel, but
Asa’s
heart was fully devoted all his days.
And it came to pass, when
Baasha heard it, that he left off building of
Ramah, and let his work cease.
For the eyes of the LORD run to and
fro throughout the whole earth, to
shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose
heart is perfect toward him.
Herein thou hast done
foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
For the eyes of the LORD
roam to and
fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose
hearts are fully devoted to Him. You have acted
foolishly in this matter. From now on, therefore, you will be at war.”
And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
And his
heart took delight in the ways of the LORD;
furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.
Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right and on His left.
And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in peace, then hath not the LORD spoken by me. And he said,
Hearken, all ye people.
But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Take
heed, all you people!”
Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.
However, some good is found in you, for you have removed the Asherah poles from the land and have set your heart on seeking God.”
And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
He commanded them, saying, “You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the LORD.
If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or
pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou
wilt hear and help.
‘If
disaster comes upon us—whether sword or judgment, plague or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our distress, and You will
hear us and save us.’
And he said,
Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king
Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
And he said, “
Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem!
Listen, King
Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle does not belong to you, but to God.
And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth,
Jehoshaphat stood and said,
Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye
prosper.
Early in the morning they got up and left for the Wilderness of Tekoa. As they set out,
Jehoshaphat stood up and said, “
Hear me, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be
upheld; believe in His prophets, and you will succeed.”
And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
And the fear of God came upon all the kingdoms of the lands when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their
hearts unto the God of their fathers.
The high places, however, were not removed; the people had not yet set their hearts on the God of their fathers.
And he sought
Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was
hid in Samaria,) and brought him to
Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his
heart. So the house of
Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
Then
Jehu looked for
Ahaziah, and
Jehu’s soldiers captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. So
Ahaziah was brought to
Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of
Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his
heart.” So no one was left from the house of
Ahaziah with the strength to rule the kingdom.
Now when
Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the LORD:
When
Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and
cheering the king, she went out to them in the house of the LORD.
And it came to pass after this, that
Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.
Some time later,
Joash set his
heart on repairing the house of the LORD.
Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made
obeisance to the king. Then the king
hearkened unto them.
After the death of Jehoiada, however, the officials of Judah came and paid
homage to the king, and he
listened to them.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not wholeheartedly.
And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel?
forbear; why shouldest thou be
smitten? Then the prophet
forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not
hearkened unto my counsel.
While he was still speaking, the king asked, “Have we made you the
counselor to the king? Stop! Why be struck down?” So the prophet stopped, but he said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not
heeded my advice.”
Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast
smitten the Edomites; and thine
heart lifteth thee up to
boast:
abide now at home; why shouldest thou
meddle to thine
hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
You have said, ‘Look, I have defeated
Edom,’ and your
heart has become proud and
boastful. Now stay at home. Why should you
stir up trouble so that you fall—you and Judah with you?”
But
Amaziah would not
hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of
Edom.
But
Amaziah would not
listen, for this had come from God in order to deliver them into the hand of Jehoash, because they had sought the gods of
Edom.
