Wherefore God also hath highly
exalted him, and given
him a name which is above every name:
Therefore God
exalted Him to the highest place and gave
Him the name above all names,
For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.
I have
nobody else like
him who will genuinely care for your needs.
But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
But you know
Timothy’s
proven worth, that as a child with his father he has served with me to advance the gospel.
Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
So I hope to send him as soon as I see what happens with me.
For indeed he was sick
nigh unto death: but God had mercy on
him; and not on
him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
He was sick indeed, nearly unto death. But God had mercy on
him, and not only on
him but also on me, to
spare me sorrow upon sorrow.
I sent
him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see
him again, ye may
rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
Therefore I am all the more eager to send
him, so that when you see
him again you may
rejoice, and I may be less anxious.
Receive
him therefore in the Lord with all
gladness; and hold such in reputation:
Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like
him,
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God on the basis of faith.
That I may know
him, and the power of his resurrection, and the
fellowship of his sufferings, being made
conformable unto his death;
I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the
fellowship of His sufferings, being
conformed to
Him in His death,
Who shall change our
vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to
subdue all things unto
himself.
who, by the power that enables
Him to subject all things to
Himself, will
transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
For by
him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or
principalities, or powers: all things were created by
him, and for
him:
For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him.
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
For it pleased the Father that in
him should all
fulness dwell;
For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him,
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by
him to
reconcile all things unto
himself; by
him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
and through
Him to
reconcile to
Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of His cross.
Whom we
preach,
warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him,
Rooted and built up in
him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with
thanksgiving.
rooted and built up in
Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with
thankfulness.
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form.
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
And you have been made complete in Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
In
Him you were also
circumcised, in the putting off of your sinful nature, with the
circumcision performed by Christ and not by human hands.
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
And having been buried with Him in baptism, you were raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.
When you were dead in your trespasses and in the
uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He
forgave us all our trespasses,
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its
Creator.
And
whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God and the Father by
him.
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through
Him.
Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;
I have sent
him to you for this very purpose, that you may know about us, and that he may
encourage your hearts.
With
Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.
With
him I am sending
Onesimus, our faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will tell you about everything here.
Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and
Marcus, sister’s son to
Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive
him;)
My fellow prisoner
Aristarchus sends you greetings, as does Mark the cousin of
Barnabas. You have already received instructions about
him: If he comes to you,
welcome him.
For I bear
him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in
Laodicea, and them in
Hierapolis.
Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen
asleep in
Him.
For the Lord
himself shall descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of the
archangel, and with the
trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
For the Lord
Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an
archangel, and with the
trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise.
Who died for us, that, whether we
wake or sleep, we should live together with
him.
He died for us so that, whether we are
awake or
asleep, we may live together with
Him.
And the very God of peace
sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved
blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now may the God of peace
Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept
blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be
glorified in you, and ye in
him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be
glorified in you, and you in
Him, according to the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Now we
beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto
him,
Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to Him, we ask you, brothers,
Who opposeth and exalteth
himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God,
shewing himself that he is God.
He will
oppose and
exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat
himself in the temple of God,
proclaiming himself to be God.
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
Even
him, whose coming is after the working of
Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the working of
Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder,
Now our Lord Jesus Christ
himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us
everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who by grace has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope,
And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with
him, that he may be
ashamed.
Take note of
anyone who does not obey the instructions we have given in this letter. Do not associate with
him, so that he may be
ashamed.
Yet count
him not as an enemy, but
admonish him as a brother.
Yet do not regard
him as an enemy, but
warn him as a brother.
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
But for this very reason I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His perfect
patience as an example to those who would believe in
Him for eternal life.
who gave
Himself as a
ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.
But if I
tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to
behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the
pillar and ground of the truth.
in case I am delayed, so that you will know how each one must conduct
himself in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the
pillar and foundation of the truth.
Rebuke not an elder, but intreat
him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
Do not
rebuke an older man, but appeal to
him as to a father. Treat younger men as brothers,
Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power
everlasting.
Amen.
He alone is
immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen
Him, nor can
anyone see
Him. To
Him be honor and eternal dominion!
Amen.
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not
ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto
him against that day.
For this reason, even though I suffer as I do, I am not
ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and I am
convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to
Him for that day.
The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
May the Lord grant
Onesiphorus His mercy on that day. You know very well how much he ministered to me in Ephesus.
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
This is a
trustworthy saying: If we died with
Him, we will also live with
Him;
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
if we
endure, we will also reign with
Him; if we deny
Him, He will also deny us;
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
If a man therefore
purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour,
sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
So if
anyone cleanses
himself of what is unfit, he will be a vessel for honor:
sanctified, useful to the Master, and prepared for every good work.
He must gently reprove those who
oppose him, in the hope that God may grant them
repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.
And that they may recover themselves out of the
snare of the devil, who are taken
captive by
him at his will.
Then they will come to their senses and escape the
snare of the devil, who has taken them
captive to his will.
Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is useful to me in the ministry.
Alexander the
coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward
him according to his works:
Alexander the
coppersmith did great
harm to me. The Lord will repay
him according to his deeds.
Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly
withstood our words.
You too should
beware of
him, for he has vigorously opposed our message.
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever.
Amen.
And the Lord will
rescue me from every evil action and bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom. To
Him be the glory
forever and ever.
Amen.
Who gave
himself for us, that he might
redeem us from all iniquity, and
purify unto
himself a peculiar people,
zealous of good works.
Knowing that he that is such is
subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of
himself.
knowing that such a man is corrupt and sinful; he is self-condemned.
Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive
him, that is, mine own
bowels:
I am sending back to you him who is my very heart.
Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy
stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
I would have liked to keep him with me, so that on your behalf he could minister to me in my chains for the gospel.
For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
For perhaps this is why he was separated from you for a while, so that you might have him back for good—
If thou count me therefore a
partner, receive
him as myself.
So if you consider me a
partner, receive
him as you would receive me.
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by
himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
The Son is the
radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided
purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I
begotten thee? And again, I will be to
him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father”? Or again: “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son”?
And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
And again, when God brings His
firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all God’s angels worship
Him.”
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation was first
announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard
Him,
But one in a certain place
testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of
him? or the son of man, that thou visitest
him?
But
somewhere it is
testified in these words: “What is man that You are mindful of
him, or the son of man that You care for
him?
Thou madest
him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst
him with glory and honour, and
didst set
him over the works of thy hands:
You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor
Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
and placed everything under his feet.” When God subjected all things to him, He left nothing outside of his control. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting for God, for whom and through whom all things exist, to make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering.
And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
And again: “I will put My trust in Him.” And once again: “Here am I, and the children God has given Me.”
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also
himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy
him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Now since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil,
For
verily he took not on
him the nature of angels; but he took on
him the seed of Abraham.
For surely it is not the angels He helps, but the descendants of Abraham.
Wherefore in all things it behoved
him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a
merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make
reconciliation for the sins of the people.
For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, so that He might become a
merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make
atonement for the sins of the people.
For in that he
himself hath suffered being
tempted, he is able to succour them that are
tempted.
Because He
Himself suffered when He was
tempted, He is able to help those who are being
tempted.
Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Who can have
compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he
himself also is compassed with
infirmity.
He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and misguided, since he
himself is
beset by weakness.
And by reason
hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for
himself, to offer for sins.
That is why he is
obligated to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was.
So also Christ
glorified not
himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto
him, Thou art my Son, to day have I
begotten thee.
So also Christ did not take upon
Himself the glory of becoming a high priest, but He was called by the One who said to
Him: “You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father.”
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
During the days of Jesus’ earthly life, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud
cries and tears to the One who could save
Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
And having been made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him
If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto
repentance; seeing they
crucify to themselves the Son of God
afresh, and put
him to an open shame.
and then have fallen away—to be restored to
repentance, because they themselves are
crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting
Him to open shame.
For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could
swear by no greater, he
sware by
himself,
When God made His promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to
swear by, He
swore by
Himself,
For this Melchisedec, king of
Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed
him;
This
Melchizedek was king of
Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed
him,
To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of
Salem, which is, King of peace;
and Abraham
apportioned to
him a tenth of everything. First, his name means “king of righteousness.” Then also, “king of
Salem” means “king of peace.”
Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
Consider how great
Melchizedek was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave
him a tenth of the
plunder.
But he whose descent is not counted from them received
tithes of Abraham, and blessed
him that had the promises.
But
Melchizedek, who did not trace his descent from Levi, collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed
him who had the promises.
For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by
him that said unto
him, The Lord
sware and will not
repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
but Jesus became a priest with an oath by the One who said to
Him: “The Lord has
sworn and will not change His mind: ‘You are a priest
forever.’”
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the
uttermost that come unto God by
him, seeing he ever liveth to make
intercession for them.
Therefore He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through
Him, since He always lives to
intercede for them.
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.
