But those that
encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and
his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
Moses, Aaron, and Aaron’s sons were to camp to the east of the tabernacle, toward the
sunrise, before the Tent of Meeting. They were to perform the duties of the sanctuary as a service on behalf of the Israelites; but any outsider who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.
And thou shalt give the money,
wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed, unto Aaron and to
his sons.
Give the money to Aaron and
his sons as the
redemption price for the excess among the Israelites.”
And Moses gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aaron and to his sons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses.
And Moses gave the
redemption money to Aaron and
his sons in obedience to the word of the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
And when the camp setteth forward, Aaron shall come, and
his sons, and they shall take down the covering
vail, and cover the ark of testimony with it:
Whenever the camp sets out, Aaron and
his sons are to go in, take down the
veil of the
curtain, and cover the ark of the Testimony with it.
And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the
candlestick of the light, and
his lamps, and
his tongs, and
his snuffdishes, and all the oil vessels thereof,
wherewith they minister unto it:
They are to take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand used for light, together with its lamps,
wick trimmers, and
trays, as well as the jars of oil with which to supply it.
And when Aaron and
his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of
Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of
Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.
When Aaron and
his sons have finished covering the holy objects and all their
equipment, as soon as the camp is ready to move, the Kohathites shall come and do the carrying. But they must not touch the holy objects, or they will die. These are the
transportation duties of the Kohathites regarding the Tent of Meeting.
But thus do unto them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach unto the most holy things: Aaron and
his sons shall go in, and
appoint them every one to
his service and to
his burden:
In order that they may live and not die when they come near the most holy things, do this for them: Aaron and
his sons are to go in and
assign each man
his task and what he is to carry.
And they shall bear the curtains of the tabernacle, and the tabernacle of the congregation, his covering, and the covering of the badgers’ skins that is above upon it, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation,
They are to carry the curtains of the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting with the covering of fine leather over it, the curtains for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting,
At the appointment of Aaron and
his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens, and in all their service: and ye shall
appoint unto them in charge all their burdens.
All the service of the Gershonites—all their transport duties and other work—is to be done at the direction of Aaron and
his sons; you are to
assign to them all that they are responsible to carry.
According to the commandment of the LORD they were numbered by the hand of Moses, every one according to his service, and according to his burden: thus were they numbered of him, as the LORD commanded Moses.
At the LORD’s command they were numbered through Moses and each one was assigned his work and burden, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Then they shall
confess their sin which they have done: and he shall
recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath
trespassed.
and must
confess the sin he has committed. He must make full
restitution, add a fifth to its value, and give all this to the one he has wronged.
And every offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring unto the priest, shall be his.
Every sacred contribution the Israelites bring to the priest shall belong to him.
And every man’s
hallowed things shall be
his:
whatsoever any man giveth the priest, it shall be
his.
Each man’s sacred gifts are his own, but whatever he gives to the priest will belong to the priest.”
And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be
jealous of
his wife, and she be
defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be
jealous of
his wife, and she be not
defiled:
and if a feeling of jealousy comes over her husband and he suspects
his wife who has
defiled herself—or if a feeling of jealousy comes over him and he suspects her even though she has not
defiled herself—
Then shall the man bring
his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an
ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put
frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of
memorial, bringing iniquity to
remembrance.
then he is to bring
his wife to the priest. He must also bring for her an offering of a tenth of an
ephah of barley flour. He is not to pour oil over it or put
frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, an offering of
memorial as a reminder of iniquity.
And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering of
memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in
his hand the bitter water that causeth the
curse:
After the priest has the woman stand before the LORD, he is to let down her hair and place in her hands the grain offering of
memorial, which is the grain offering for jealousy. The priest is to hold the bitter water that brings a
curse.
Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be
jealous over
his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall
execute upon her all this law.
or when a feeling of jealousy comes over a husband and he suspects his wife. He is to have the woman stand before the LORD, and the priest is to apply to her this entire law.
All the days of
his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the
husk.
All the days of
his separation, he is not to eat anything that comes from the
grapevine, not even the seeds or skins.
All the days of the
vow of
his separation there shall no
razor come upon
his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of
his head grow.
For the entire period of
his vow of separation, no
razor shall pass over
his head. He must be holy until the time of
his separation to the LORD is complete; he must let the hair of
his head grow long.
All the days that he separateth himself unto the LORD he shall come at no dead body.
Throughout the days of his separation to the LORD, he must not go near a dead body.
He shall not make himself unclean for
his father, or for
his mother, for
his brother, or for
his sister, when they die: because the
consecration of
his God is upon
his head.
Even if
his father or mother or brother or sister should die, he is not to
defile himself, because the crown of
consecration to
his God is upon
his head.
All the days of his separation he is holy unto the LORD.
Throughout the time of his separation, he is holy to the LORD.
If someone suddenly dies in
his presence and defiles
his consecrated head of hair, he must
shave his head on the day of
his cleansing—the seventh day.
And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an
atonement for him, for that he
sinned by the dead, and shall
hallow his head that same day.
And the priest is to offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to make
atonement for him, because he has
sinned by being in the presence of the dead body. On that day he must
consecrate his head again.
And he shall
consecrate unto the LORD the days of
his separation, and shall bring a lamb of the first year for a
trespass offering: but the days that were before shall be lost, because
his separation was
defiled.
He must rededicate
his time of separation to the LORD and bring a year-old male lamb as a guilt offering. But the preceding days shall not be counted, because
his separation was
defiled.
And this is the law of the
Nazarite, when the days of
his separation are fulfilled: he shall be brought unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:
Now this is the law of the
Nazirite when
his time of separation is complete: He must be brought to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting,
And he shall offer
his offering unto the LORD, one he lamb of the first year without
blemish for a burnt offering, and one
ewe lamb of the first year without
blemish for a sin offering, and one ram without
blemish for peace offerings,
and he is to present an offering to the LORD of an
unblemished year-old male lamb as a burnt offering, an
unblemished year-old female lamb as a sin offering, and an
unblemished ram as a peace offering—
And the priest shall bring them before the LORD, and shall offer his sin offering, and his burnt offering:
The priest is to present all these before the LORD and make the sin offering and the burnt offering.
And he shall offer the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, with the
basket of
unleavened bread: the priest shall offer also
his meat offering, and
his drink offering.
He shall also offer the ram as a peace offering to the LORD, along with the
basket of
unleavened bread. And the priest is to offer the accompanying grain offering and drink offering.
And the
Nazarite shall
shave the head of
his separation at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall take the hair of the head of
his separation, and put it in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.
Then at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the
Nazirite is to
shave his consecrated head, take the hair, and put it on the fire under the peace offering.
This is the law of the
Nazarite who hath
vowed, and of
his offering unto the LORD for
his separation, beside that that
his hand shall get: according to the
vow which he
vowed, so he must do after the law of
his separation.
This is the law of the
Nazirite who vows
his offering to the LORD for
his separation, in addition to whatever else he can afford; he must
fulfill whatever
vow he makes, according to the law of
his separation.”
Speak unto Aaron and unto
his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall
bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,
“Tell Aaron and
his sons: This is how you are to
bless the Israelites. Say to them:
The LORD make
his face
shine upon thee, and be
gracious unto thee:
may the LORD cause
His face to
shine upon you and be
gracious to you;
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’
Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.
“Accept these gifts from them, that they may be used in the work of the Tent of Meeting. And give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, They shall offer their offering, each prince on
his day, for the
dedicating of the altar.
And the LORD said to Moses, “Each day one leader is to present
his offering for the
dedication of the altar.”
And he that offered
his offering the first day was Nahshon the son of
Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah:
On the first day Nahshon son of
Amminadab from the tribe of Judah drew near with
his offering.
And
his offering was one silver charger, the weight thereof was an hundred and thirty shekels, one silver
bowl of seventy shekels, after the
shekel of the sanctuary; both of them were full of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering:
His offering was one silver
platter weighing a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver
bowl weighing seventy shekels, both according to the sanctuary
shekel and filled with fine flour mixed with oil for a grain offering;

Then let them take a young
bullock with
his meat offering, even fine flour mingled with oil, and another young
bullock shalt thou take for a sin offering.
Then have them take a young bull with its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you are to take a second young bull for a sin offering.
And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for an offering unto the LORD.
You are to have the Levites stand before Aaron and his sons and then present them before the LORD as a wave offering.
And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to
his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an
atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come
nigh unto the sanctuary.
And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and
his sons from among the Israelites, to perform the service for the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting and to make
atonement on their behalf, so that no plague will come against the Israelites when they approach the sanctuary.”
And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.
After that, the Levites came to perform their service at the Tent of Meeting in the presence of Aaron and his sons. Thus they did with the Levites just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Let the children of Israel also keep the
passover at
his appointed season.
“The Israelites are to observe the
Passover at its appointed time.
In the
fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in
his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.
You are to observe it at the appointed time, at
twilight on the
fourteenth day of this month, in accordance with its statutes and ordinances.”
And those men said unto him, We are
defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the LORD in
his appointed season among the children of Israel?
and said to Moses, “We are unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be excluded from presenting the LORD’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?”
But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to keep the
passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among
his people: because he brought not the offering of the LORD in
his appointed season, that man shall bear
his sin.
But if a man who is
ceremonially clean and is not on a journey still fails to observe the
Passover, he must be cut off from
his people, because he did not present the LORD’s offering at its appointed time. That man will bear the consequences of
his sin.
At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
They camped at the LORD’s command, and they set out at the LORD’s command; they carried out the LORD’s charge according to His command through Moses.
In the first place went the standard of the camp of the children of Judah according to their armies: and over
his host was Nahshon the son of
Amminadab.
First, the divisions of the camp of Judah set out under their standard, with Nahshon son of
Amminadab in command.
And the standard of the camp of
Reuben set forward according to their armies: and over
his host was Elizur the son of Shedeur.
Then the divisions of the camp of
Reuben set out under their standard, with Elizur son of Shedeur in command.
And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their armies: and over his host was Elishama the son of Ammihud.
Next, the divisions of the camp of Ephraim set out under their standard, with Elishama son of Ammihud in command.
And the standard of the camp of the children of
Dan set forward, which was the rereward of all the camps throughout their hosts: and over
his host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.
Finally, the divisions of the camp of
Dan set out under their standard, serving as the rear guard for all units, with Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai in command.
And when the people
complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and
his anger was
kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the
uttermost parts of the camp.
Soon the people began to
complain about their
hardship in the hearing of the LORD, and when He heard them,
His anger was
kindled, and fire from the LORD
blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.
Then Moses heard the people
weep throughout their families, every man in the door of
his tent: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.
Then Moses heard the people of family after family
weeping at the entrances to their tents, and the anger of the LORD was
kindled greatly, and Moses was also displeased.
And Joshua the son of
Nun, the servant of Moses, one of
his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses,
forbid them.
Joshua son of
Nun, the
attendant to Moses since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”
And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
But Moses replied, “Are you
jealous on my account? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would place
His Spirit on them!”
Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of
his mother’s
womb.
Please do not let her be like a
stillborn infant whose flesh is half consumed when he comes out of
his mother’s
womb.”
But my servant
Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land
whereinto he went; and
his seed shall possess it.
But because My servant
Caleb has a different spirit and has followed Me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he has entered, and
his descendants will
inherit it.
Then shall he that offereth
his offering unto the LORD bring a meat offering of a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an
hin of oil.
then the one presenting
his offering to the LORD shall also present a grain offering of a tenth of an
ephah of fine flour mixed with a quarter
hin of olive oil.
Then it shall be, if ought be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young
bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the LORD, with
his meat offering, and
his drink offering, according to the manner, and one
kid of the goats for a sin offering.
and if it was done
unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, then the whole congregation is to prepare one young bull as a burnt offering, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and drink offering according to the regulation, and one male goat as a sin offering.
But the soul that doeth ought
presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among
his people.
But the person who sins defiantly, whether a native or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD. That person shall be cut off from among his people.
Because he hath
despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken
his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off;
his iniquity shall be upon him.
He shall certainly be cut off, because he has
despised the word of the LORD and broken
His commandment;
his guilt remains on him.”
And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:
When Moses heard this, he fell facedown.
And he spake unto
Korah and unto all
his company, saying, Even to
morrow the LORD will
shew who are
his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
Then he said to
Korah and all
his followers, “
Tomorrow morning the LORD will
reveal who belongs to Him and who is holy, and He will bring that person near to Himself. The one He chooses, He will bring near to Himself.
This do; Take you censers,
Korah, and all
his company;
You,
Korah, and all your followers are to do as follows: Take censers,
And take every man
his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man
his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you
his censer.
Each man is to take
his censer, place incense in it, and present it before the LORD—250 censers. You and Aaron are to present your censers as well.”
And they took every man
his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense
thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.
So each man took
his censer, put fire and incense in it, and stood with Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
And
Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.
When
Korah had gathered
his whole assembly against them at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the glory of the LORD appeared to the whole congregation.
To be a
memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as
Korah, and as
his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
just as the LORD commanded him through Moses. This was to be a reminder to the Israelites that no outsider who is not a
descendant of Aaron should approach to offer incense before the LORD, lest he become like
Korah and
his followers.
Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod.
“Speak to the Israelites and take from them twelve staffs, one from the leader of each tribe. Write each man’s name on his staff,
And Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.
Then Moses brought out all the staffs from the LORD’s presence to all the Israelites. They saw them, and each man took his own staff.
And ye shall give her unto
Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her forth without the camp, and one shall
slay her before
his face:
Give it to
Eleazar the priest, and he will have it brought outside the camp and slaughtered in
his presence.
And
Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with
his finger, and
sprinkle of her blood directly before the tabernacle of the congregation seven times:
Eleazar the priest is to take some of its blood on
his finger and
sprinkle it seven times toward the front of the Tent of Meeting.
And one shall burn the
heifer in
his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall he burn:
Then the
heifer must be burned in
his sight. Its hide, its flesh, and its blood are to be burned, along with its dung.
Then the priest shall wash
his clothes, and he shall
bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even.
Then the priest must wash
his clothes and
bathe his body in water; after that he may enter the camp, but he will be
ceremonially unclean until evening.
And he that burneth her shall wash
his clothes in water, and
bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even.
The one who burned the
heifer must also wash
his clothes and
bathe his body in water, and he too will be
ceremonially unclean until evening.
And he that gathereth the ashes of the
heifer shall wash
his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever.
The man who has gathered up the ashes of the
heifer must also wash
his clothes, and he will be
ceremonially unclean until evening. This is a permanent statute for the Israelites and for the foreigner residing among them.
Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not
sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean;
his uncleanness is yet upon him.
Anyone who touches a human
corpse and fails to
purify himself defiles the tabernacle of the LORD. That person must be cut off from Israel. He remains unclean, because the water of
purification has not been
sprinkled on him, and
his uncleanness is still on him.
And the clean person shall
sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall
purify himself, and wash
his clothes, and
bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.
The man who is
ceremonially clean is to
sprinkle the unclean person on the third day and on the seventh day. After he purifies the unclean person on the seventh day, the one being
cleansed must wash
his clothes and
bathe in water, and that evening he will be clean.
And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkleth the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that toucheth the water of separation shall be unclean until even.
This is a permanent statute for the people: The one who sprinkles the water of
purification must wash
his clothes, and
whoever touches the water of
purification will be unclean until evening.
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
“Take the staff and
assemble the congregation. You and your brother Aaron are to speak to the rock while they watch, and it will pour out its water. You will bring out water from the rock and provide drink for the congregation and their
livestock.”
And Moses lifted up
his hand, and with
his rod he
smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation
drank, and their beasts also.
Then Moses raised
his hand and struck the rock twice with
his staff, so that a great amount of water
gushed out, and the congregation and their
livestock were able to drink.
This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel
strove with the LORD, and he was
sanctified in them.
These were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the LORD, and He showed
His holiness among them.
Thus
Edom refused to give Israel passage through
his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
So
Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through their territory, and Israel turned away from them.
Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
“Aaron will be gathered to his people; he will not enter the land that I have given the Israelites, because both of you rebelled against My command at the waters of Meribah.
Take Aaron and
Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount
Hor:
Take Aaron and
his son
Eleazar and bring them up Mount
Hor.
And strip Aaron of
his garments, and put them upon
Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto
his people, and shall die there.
Remove Aaron’s priestly garments and put them on
his son
Eleazar. Aaron will be gathered to
his people and will die there.”
And Moses
stripped Aaron of
his garments, and put them upon
Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and
Eleazar came down from the mount.
After Moses had removed Aaron’s garments and put them on
his son
Eleazar, Aaron died there on top of the mountain. Then Moses and
Eleazar came down from the mountain.
And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
But Sihon would not let Israel pass through
his territory. Instead, he gathered
his whole army and went out to
confront Israel in the wilderness. When he came to Jahaz, he fought against Israel.
