And Jacob was
wroth, and
chode with
Laban: and Jacob answered and said to
Laban, What is my
trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?
Then Jacob became
incensed and
challenged Laban. “What is my crime?” he said. “For what sin of mine have you so hotly pursued me?
Oil for the light, spices for
anointing oil, and for sweet
incense,
And thou shalt make an altar to burn
incense upon: of
shittim wood shalt thou make it.
“You are also to make an altar of
acacia wood for the burning of
incense.
And Aaron shall burn
thereon sweet
incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn
incense upon it.
And Aaron is to burn
fragrant incense on it every morning when he tends the lamps.
And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
When Aaron sets up the lamps at
twilight, he must burn the
incense perpetually before the LORD for the generations to come.
Ye shall offer no strange
incense thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering; neither shall ye pour drink offering
thereon.
On this altar you must not offer unauthorized incense or a burnt offering or grain offering; nor are you to pour a drink offering on it.
And the table and all his vessels, and the
candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of
incense,
the table and all its utensils, the lampstand and its utensils, the altar of incense,
And as for the
perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to
yourselves according to the composition thereof: it shall be unto thee holy for the LORD.
You are never to use this formula to make
incense for
yourselves; you shall regard it as holy to the LORD.
And the table and his furniture, and the pure
candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of
incense,
the table with its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense,

in addition to the
anointing oil and
fragrant incense for the Holy Place. They are to make them according to all that I have commanded you.”
And oil for the light, and spices for
anointing oil, and for the sweet
incense,
And the
incense altar, and his
staves, and the
anointing oil, and the sweet
incense, and the hanging for the door at the entering in of the tabernacle,
And
spice, and oil for the light, and for the
anointing oil, and for the sweet
incense.
as well as spices and olive oil for the light, for the
anointing oil, and for the
fragrant incense.
And he made the
incense altar of
shittim wood: the length of it was a
cubit, and the breadth of it a
cubit; it was
foursquare; and two cubits was the height of it; the horns thereof were of the same.
He made the altar of
incense out of
acacia wood. It was square, a

incense of sweet spices, according to the work of the
apothecary.
And the golden altar, and the
anointing oil, and the sweet

And thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle.
Place the gold altar of
incense in front of the ark of the Testimony, and
hang the
curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
And he burnt sweet
incense thereon; as the LORD commanded Moses.
and he burned
fragrant incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded him.
And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet
incense before the LORD, which is in the tabernacle of the congregation: and shall pour all the blood of the
bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
The priest must then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of
fragrant incense that is before the LORD in the Tent of Meeting. And he is to pour out the rest of the bull’s blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
And
Nadab and
Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his
censer, and put fire therein, and put
incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.
Now Aaron’s sons
Nadab and
Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added
incense, and offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to His command.
And he shall take a
censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet
incense beaten small, and bring it within the
vail:
Then he must take a
censer full of burning coals from the altar before the LORD, and two handfuls of finely ground
fragrant incense, and take them inside the
veil.
And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:
He is to put the incense on the fire before the LORD, and the cloud of incense will cover the mercy seat above the Testimony, so that he will not die.
And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall
abhor you.
I will destroy your high places, cut down your
incense altars, and
heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless remains of your idols; and My soul will
despise you.
And to the office of
Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest pertaineth the oil for the light, and the sweet
incense, and the daily meat offering, and the
anointing oil, and the oversight of all the tabernacle, and of all that therein is, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof.
Eleazar son of Aaron the priest shall oversee the oil for the light, the
fragrant incense, the daily grain offering, and the
anointing oil. He has oversight of the entire tabernacle and everything in it, including the holy objects and their utensils.”

The golden spoons were twelve, full of
incense, weighing ten shekels
apiece, after the
shekel of the sanctuary: all the gold of the spoons was an hundred and twenty shekels.
The twelve gold dishes filled with
incense weighed ten shekels each, according to the sanctuary
shekel. The total weight of the gold dishes was a hundred and twenty shekels.
And put fire therein, and put
incense in them before the LORD to
morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD
doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.
and
tomorrow you are to place fire and
incense in them in the presence of the LORD. Then the man the LORD chooses will be the one who is holy. It is you sons of Levi who have taken too much upon
yourselves!”
And take every man his
censer, and put
incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his
censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his
censer.
Each man is to take his
censer, place
incense in it, and present it before the LORD—250 censers. You and Aaron are to present your censers as well.”
And they took every man his
censer, and put fire in them, and laid
incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.
So each man took his
censer, put fire and
incense in it, and stood with Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
And fire came forth from the LORD and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense.
To be a
memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer
incense before the LORD; that he be not as
Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
just as the LORD commanded him through Moses. This was to be a reminder to the Israelites that no outsider who is not a
descendant of Aaron should approach to offer
incense before the LORD, lest he become like
Korah and his followers.
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a
censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on
incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an
atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Moses said to Aaron, “Take your
censer, place fire from the altar in it, and add
incense. Go quickly to the congregation and make
atonement for them, because wrath has come out from the LORD; the plague has begun.”
And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on
incense, and made an
atonement for the people.
So Aaron took the
censer as Moses had ordered and ran into the midst of the assembly. And seeing that the plague had begun among the people, he offered the
incense and made
atonement for the people.
They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.
He will teach Your ordinances to Jacob and Your law to Israel; he will set incense before You and whole burnt offerings on Your altar.
And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn
incense, to wear an
ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
And out of all the tribes of Israel I selected your father to be My priest, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to burn
incense, and to wear an
ephod in My presence. I also gave to the house of your father all the offerings of the Israelites made by fire.
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
And Solomon loved the LORD and walked in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the LORD, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.
Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar he had built for the LORD, burning incense with them before the LORD. So he completed the temple.
And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.
He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.
So he offered upon the altar which he had made in
Bethel the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt
incense.
On the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, a month of his own choosing,
Jeroboam offered sacrifices on the altar he had set up in
Bethel. So he ordained a feast for the Israelites, offered sacrifices on the altar, and burned
incense.
And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto
Bethel: and
Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn
incense.
Suddenly, as
Jeroboam was standing beside the altar to burn
incense, there came a man of God from Judah to
Bethel by the word of the LORD.
And he
cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David,
Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn
incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.
And he
cried out against the altar by the word of the LORD, “O altar, O altar, this is what the LORD says: ‘A son named
Josiah will be born to the house of David, and upon you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn
incense upon you, and human bones will be burned upon you.’”
And he walked in all the ways of
Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt
incense yet in the high places.
And
Jehoshaphat walked in all the ways of his father
Asa; he did not turn away from them, but did what was right in the eyes of the LORD. The high places, however, were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned
incense on the high places.
But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not removed; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt
incense on the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away, and the people continued sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.
Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.
Howbeit the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burned
incense still in the high places. He built the higher gate of the house of the LORD.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there. Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD.
And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
And there they burnt
incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the LORD carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to
provoke the LORD to anger:
They burned
incense on all the high places like the nations that the LORD had driven out before them. They did wicked things,
provoking the LORD to anger.
He removed the high places, and
brake the images, and cut down the groves, and
brake in pieces the
brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn
incense to it: and he called it
Nehushtan.
He removed the high places,
shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He also
demolished the bronze
snake called
Nehushtan that Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had burned
incense to it.
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned
incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be
kindled against this place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned
incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My wrath will be
kindled against this place and will not be
quenched.’
And he put down the
idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn
incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned
incense unto
Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
Josiah also did away with the
idolatrous priests ordained by the kings of Judah to burn
incense on the high places of the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem—those who had burned
incense to
Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.
And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and
defiled the high places where the priests had burned
incense, from Geba to Beer-
sheba, and
brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
Then
Josiah brought all the priests from the cities of Judah and
desecrated the high places, from Geba to
Beersheba, where the priests had burned
incense. He
tore down the high places of the gates at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which was to the left of the city gate.
But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt offering, and on the altar of
incense, and were appointed for all the work of the place most holy, and to make an
atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
But Aaron and his sons did all the work of the Most Holy Place. They presented the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of
incense to make
atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should
sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn
incense before the LORD, to minister unto him, and to
bless in his name for ever.
The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron and his descendants were set apart
forever to
consecrate the most holy things, to burn
incense before the LORD, to minister before Him, and to
pronounce blessings in His name
forever.
And for the altar of
incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the
chariot of the cherubims, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
the weight of the refined gold for the altar of
incense; and the plans for the
chariot of the gold
cherubim that spread their wings and overshadowed the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to
dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet
incense, and for the continual
shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an
ordinance for ever to Israel.
Behold, I am about to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God to
dedicate to Him for burning
fragrant incense before Him, for displaying the
showbread continuously, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening as well as on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts of the LORD our God. This is ordained for Israel
forever.
And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet
incense: the
shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the
candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have
forsaken him.
Every morning and every evening they present burnt offerings and
fragrant incense to the LORD. They set out the rows of
showbread on the
ceremonially clean table, and every evening they light the lamps of the gold lampstand. We are carrying out the requirements of the LORD our God, while you have
forsaken Him.
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
He also removed the high places and incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and under him the kingdom was at peace.
Now it came to pass, after that
Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of
Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned
incense unto them.
When
Amaziah returned from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought back the gods of the Seirites, set them up as his own gods, bowed before them, and burned sacrifices to them.
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he
transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn
incense upon the altar of
incense.
But when Uzziah grew powerful, his
arrogance led to his own destruction. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, for he entered the temple of the LORD to burn
incense on the altar of
incense.
And they
withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn
incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn
incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast
trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
Then Uzziah was
wroth, and had a
censer in his hand to burn
incense: and while he was
wroth with the priests, the
leprosy even rose up in his
forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the
incense altar.
Uzziah, with a
censer in his hand to offer
incense, was
enraged. But while he
raged against the priests in their presence in the house of the LORD before the altar of
incense,
leprosy broke out on his
forehead.
Moreover he burnt
incense in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
Moreover,
Ahaz burned
incense in the Valley of
Hinnom and sacrificed his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn
incense unto other gods, and
provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.
In every city of Judah he built high places to offer
incense to other gods, and so he
provoked the LORD, the God of his fathers.
Also they have shut up the doors of the
porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned
incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel.
They also shut the doors of the
portico and
extinguished the lamps. They did not burn
incense or present burnt offerings in the Holy Place of the God of Israel.
My sons, be not now
negligent: for the LORD hath chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that ye should minister unto him, and burn
incense.
Now, my sons, do not be
negligent, for the LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, to minister before Him, and to burn
incense.”
And they arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for
incense took they away, and cast them into the
brook Kidron.
They proceeded to remove the altars in Jerusalem and to take away the incense altars and throw them into the Kidron Valley.
Hath not the same
Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn
incense upon it?
Did not
Hezekiah himself remove His high places and His altars and say to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn sacrifices’?
And they
brake down the altars of
Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images, he
brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and
strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.
Then in his presence the altars of the Baals were
torn down, and he cut to pieces the
incense altars that were above them. He
shattered the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images,
crushed them to dust, and scattered them over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the
graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
He
tore down the altars and Asherah poles,
crushed the idols to powder, and cut to pieces all the
incense altars throughout the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned
incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned
incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My wrath will be poured out upon this place and will not be
quenched.’
I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the
incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats.
Selah.
I will offer You fatlings as burnt offerings, with the
fragrant smoke of rams; I will offer bulls and goats.
Selah Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
May my prayer be set before You like
incense, my
uplifted hands like the evening offering.
Oil and incense bring joy to the heart, and the sweetness of a friend is counsel to the soul.
Bring no more vain oblations;
incense is an
abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of
assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
Bring your worthless offerings no more; your
incense is
detestable to Me— your New Moons, Sabbaths, and convocations. I cannot
endure iniquity in a solemn assembly.
And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.
They will not look to the altars they have fashioned with their hands or to the Asherahs and incense altars they have made with their fingers.
By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be
purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in
sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.
Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be
atoned for, and the full fruit of the removal of his sin will be this: When he makes all the altar stones like
crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or
incense altars will remain standing.
Behold, all they that were
incensed against thee shall be
ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that
strive with thee shall perish.
Behold, all who
rage against you will be
ashamed and disgraced; those who
contend with you will be reduced to nothing and will perish.
Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor
wearied thee with
incense.
You have not brought Me sheep for burnt offerings, nor honored Me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with offerings, nor
wearied you with
frankincense.
Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are
incensed against him shall be
ashamed.
Surely they will say of Me, ‘In the LORD alone are righteousness and strength.’” All who
rage against Him will come to Him and be put to shame.
The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the
dromedaries of
Midian and
Ephah; all they from
Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and
incense; and they shall
shew forth the praises of the LORD.
A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;
to a people who continually
provoke Me to My face, sacrificing in the gardens and burning
incense on altars of brick,
Your
iniquities, and the
iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned
incense upon the mountains, and
blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their
bosom.
both for your
iniquities and for those of your fathers,” says the LORD. “Because they burned
incense on the mountains and
scorned Me on the hills, I will measure into their laps full payment for their former deeds.”
He that killeth an ox is as if he
slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offereth an
oblation, as if he offered
swine’s blood; he that burneth
incense, as if he blessed an
idol.
Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.
Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who slays a man;
whoever sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck;
whoever presents a grain offering is like one who offers pig’s blood;
whoever offers
frankincense is like one who blesses an
idol. Indeed, they have chosen their own ways and delighted in their abominations.
And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have
forsaken me, and have burned
incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.
I will
pronounce My judgments against them for all their wickedness, because they have
forsaken Me to burn
incense to other gods and to worship the works of their own hands.
To what purpose cometh there to me
incense from
Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.
What use to Me is
frankincense from
Sheba or sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please Me.”
Will ye
steal, murder, and commit
adultery, and
swear falsely, and burn
incense unto
Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
Will you
steal and murder, commit
adultery and
perjury, burn
incense to
Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known,
