If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
The man answered and said unto them, Why
herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
“That is remarkable indeed!” the man said. “You do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes.
This he said,
signifying what death he should die.
He said this to indicate the kind of death He was going to die.
That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake,
signifying what death he should die.
This was to
fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to
indicate the kind of death He was going to die.
This spake he,
signifying by what death he should
glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
Jesus said this to
indicate the kind of death by which Peter would
glorify God. And after He had said this, He told him, “Follow Me.”
Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise
foretold of these days.
Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days.
Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that
indeed a notable
miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
“What shall we do with these men?” they asked. “It is clear to
everyone living in Jerusalem that a remarkable
miracle has occurred through them, and we cannot deny it.
Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the
Sadducees,) and were filled with
indignation,
Then the high priest and all his associates, who belonged to the party of the
Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They went out
I have seen, I have seen the
affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their
groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.
I have
indeed seen the oppression of My people in Egypt. I have heard their
groaning and have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’
Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John
indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be
baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Then I remembered the word of the Lord, as He used to say, ‘John
baptized with water, but you will be
baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
My companions saw the light, but they could not understand the voice of the One speaking to me.
Notwithstanding, that I be not further
tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy
clemency a few words.
But in order not to burden you any further, I
beg your
indulgence to hear us briefly.
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their
lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Likewise, the men abandoned natural relations with women and burned with
lust for one another. Men committed
indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
But unto them that are
contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness,
indignation and wrath,
But for those who are self-seeking and who
reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger.
For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law.
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath
whereof to glory; but not before God.
If Abraham was
indeed justified by works, he had something to
boast about, but not before God.
Likewise
reckon ye also
yourselves to be dead
indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So you too must count
yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God
forbid.
Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known
lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not
covet.
What then shall we say? Is the law sin? Certainly not!
Indeed, I would not have been mindful of sin if not for the law. For I would not have been aware of
coveting if the law had not said, “Do not
covet.”
Because the
carnal mind is
enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither
indeed can be.
because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also
glorified together.
And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if
indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be
glorified with Him.
But I say, Have they not heard?
Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
But I ask, did they not hear? Indeed they did: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Be
indebted to no one, except to one another in love. For he who loves his
neighbor has fulfilled the law.
For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to let his eating be a
stumbling block.
It hath pleased them
verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in
carnal things.
They were pleased to do it, and
indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual blessings, they are
obligated to minister to them with material blessings.
Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of
Cephas; and I of Christ.
What I mean is this:
Individuals among you are saying, “I follow Paul,” “I follow Apollos,” “I follow
Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.”
Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should
plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be
partaker of his hope.
Isn’t He actually speaking on our behalf?
Indeed, this was written for us, because when the
plowman plows and the
thresher threshes, they should also expect to share in the harvest.
But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that something be done for me.
Indeed, I would rather die than let
anyone nullify my
boast.
Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
Do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written: “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and got up to
indulge in
revelry.”
For a man
indeed ought not to cover his head,
forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.
For there must be also
heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him;
howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries in the Spirit.
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that
slept.
But Christ has
indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen
asleep.
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
Indeed, we felt we were under the sentence of death, in order that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God, who raises the dead.
For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
Indeed, what was once glorious has no glory now in comparison to the glory that surpasses it.
For behold this
selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you,
yea, what clearing of
yourselves,
yea, what
indignation,
yea, what fear,
yea, what
vehement desire,
yea, what zeal,
yea, what
revenge! In all things ye have approved
yourselves to be clear in this matter.
Consider what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear
yourselves, what
indignation, what
alarm, what longing, what zeal, what
vindication! In every way you have proved
yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
For if I have
boasted any thing to him of you, I am not
ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our
boasting, which I made before
Titus, is found a truth.
Indeed, I was not
embarrassed by anything I had
boasted to him about you. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our
boasting to
Titus has proved to be true as well.
For
indeed he accepted the
exhortation; but being more forward, of his own
accord he went unto you.
For not only did he
welcome our appeal, but he is eagerly coming to you of his own
volition.
Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
Thanks be to God for His
indescribable gift!
For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
We are not
overstepping our bounds, as if we had not come to you.
Indeed, we were the first to reach you with the gospel of Christ.
Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
I hope you will bear with a little of my
foolishness, but you are already doing that.
For though he was
crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.
For He was
indeed crucified in weakness, yet He lives by God’s power. And though we are weak in Him, yet by God’s power we will live with Him to serve you.
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh,
fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
All of us also lived among them at one time,
fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and
indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath.
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the
effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the
edifying of itself in love.
From Him the whole body, fitted and held together by every supporting
ligament, grows and builds itself up in love through the work of each
individual part.
And be not
drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
For no man ever yet
hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Indeed, no one ever
hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.
It is true that some
preach Christ out of
envy and
rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
For I am in a strait
betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
I am
torn between the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better
indeed.
For
indeed he was sick
nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
He was sick
indeed, nearly unto death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, to
spare me sorrow upon sorrow.
Finally, my brethren,
rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me
indeed is not
grievous, but for you it is safe.
Finally, my brothers,
rejoice in the Lord. It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a
safeguard for you.
But I
rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
Now I
rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have revived your
concern for me. You were
indeed concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it.
If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven;
whereof I Paul am made a minister;
if indeed you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope of the gospel you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Which things have
indeed a
shew of wisdom in will worship, and
humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
Such restrictions
indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-prescribed worship, their false
humility, and their harsh treatment of the body; but they are of no value against the
indulgence of the flesh.
Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but
Satan hindered us.
For we wanted to come to you—
indeed I, Paul, tried again and again—but
Satan obstructed us.
For ye are our glory and joy.
You are indeed our glory and our joy.
For
verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer
tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
Indeed, when we were with you, we kept
warning you that we would suffer persecution; and as you know, it has come to pass.
And
indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all
Macedonia: but we
beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;
And you are
indeed showing this love to all the brothers throughout
Macedonia. But we
urge you, brothers, to
excel more and more
Honour widows that are widows indeed.
Honor the widows who are truly widows.
Now she that is a widow
indeed, and
desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
The widow who is truly in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day in her petitions and prayers.
If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them
relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may
relieve them that are widows
indeed.
If any believing woman has dependent widows, she must assist them and not allow the church to be burdened, so that it can help the widows who are truly in need.
But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very
diligently, and found me.
Indeed, when he arrived in Rome, he searched
diligently until he found me.
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
A large house contains not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay. Some indeed are for honorable use, but others are for common use.
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be
persecuted,
If any be
blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of
riot or
unruly.
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are
defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is
defiled.
To the pure, all things are pure; but to the
defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure.
Indeed, both their minds and their consciences are
defiled.
Who is made, not after the law of a
carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
one who has become a priest not by a law of succession, but by the power of an
indestructible life.
Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been
wanton; ye have
nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
As you come to Him, the living stone, rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight,
Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of
riot, speaking evil of you:
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a
thief, or as an
evildoer, or as a
busybody in other men’s matters.
But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the
lust of uncleanness, and
despise government.
Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of
dignities.
Such punishment is specially reserved for those who
indulge the corrupt desires of the flesh and
despise authority. Bold and self-willed, they are unafraid to
slander glorious beings.
For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again
entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
If
indeed they have escaped the corruption of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, only to be
entangled and overcome by it again, their final condition is worse than it was at first.
Even as
Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to
fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the
vengeance of eternal fire.
In like manner,
Sodom and
Gomorrah and the cities around them, who
indulged in sexual immorality and pursued strange flesh, are on display as an example of those who
sustain the punishment of eternal fire.
And indeed, have mercy on those who doubt;
For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do
hurt.
For the power of the horses was in their mouths and in their tails;
indeed, their tails were like snakes, having heads with which to
inflict harm.
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his
indignation; and he shall be
tormented with fire and
brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
he too will drink the wine of God’s anger, poured undiluted into the cup of His wrath. And he will be
tormented in fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.
And to all the governors and captains and lieutenants that were under him, from
India unto
Ethiopia, of an hundred twenty and seven provinces.
Whose look drieth up the depths, and
indignation maketh the mountains to
melt away; which the truth witnesseth:
Take thou no
indignation at them which are deemed worse than beasts; but love them that always put their trust in thy righteousness and glory.
For
indeed I will not think on the disposition of them which have
sinned before death, before judgment, before destruction:
And I said, Lord that bearest rule, if I have found grace before thy sight, and if I am justified with thee before many others, and if my prayer indeed be come up before thy face;
The copy of the letters was this: The great king Artexerxes writeth these things to the princes and governours that are under him from
India unto
Ethiopia in an hundred and seven and twenty provinces.
The great king Artexerxes unto the princes and governors of an hundred and seven and twenty provinces from
India unto
Ethiopia, and unto all our faithful subjects,
greeting.
For Aman, a
Macedonian, the son of Amadatha, being
indeed a stranger from the Persian blood, and far distant from our goodness, and as a stranger received of us,
A man
indeed killeth through his
malice: and the spirit, when it is gone forth, returneth not; neither the soul received up cometh again.
But they sleeping the same sleep that night, which was
indeed intolerable, and which came upon them out of the bottoms of inevitable
hell,
And say not His mercy is great; he will be
pacified for the multitude of my sins: for mercy and wrath come from him, and his
indignation resteth upon sinners.
If thou be among the
indiscreet, observe the time; but be continually among men of understanding.
And of merchants’
indifferent selling; of much correction of children; and to make the side of an evil servant to
bleed.
This the Lord saw, and it displeased him, and in his wrathful
indignation were they consumed: he did wonders upon them, to
consume them with the
fiery flame.
For thou hast sent out thy wrath and
indignation upon us, as thou hast spoken by thy servants the prophets, saying,
When they of Babylon heard that, they took great
indignation, and
conspired against the king, saying, The king is become a
Jew, and he hath destroyed
Bel, he hath slain the
dragon, and put the priests to death.
Now when the time drew near that Mattathias should die, he said unto his sons, Now hath pride and
rebuke gotten strength, and the time of destruction, and the wrath of
indignation:
Now when king
Antiochus heard these things, he was full of
indignation: wherefore he sent and gathered together all the forces of his realm, even a very strong army.
And upon the beasts were there strong towers of wood, which covered every one of them, and were
girt fast unto them with devices: there were also upon every one two and thirty strong men, that fought upon them, beside the
Indian that ruled him.
