Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.

indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.

Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s
treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
Now, therefore, if it pleases the king, let a search be made of the royal
archives in Babylon to see if King Cyrus did
indeed issue a decree to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us his decision in this matter.
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands:
yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this
trespass.
Indeed, the Israelites have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the people of the land. And the leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”
Blessed
indeed is the man whom God corrects; so do not
despise the discipline of the
Almighty.
Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
Indeed, we have investigated, and it is true! So hear it and know for
yourself.”
If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to
plead?
If it is a matter of strength, He is
indeed mighty! If it is a matter of justice, who can
summon Him?
For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot;
yea, thou shalt be
stedfast, and shalt not fear:
then indeed you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm and unafraid.
Lo, mine eye hath seen all this, mine ear hath heard and understood it.
“Indeed, my eyes have seen all this; my ears have heard and understood.
Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the
spark of his fire shall not
shine.
Indeed, the lamp of the wicked is
extinguished; the flame of his fire does not
glow.
And be it
indeed that I have
erred, mine error remaineth with myself.
Even if I have truly gone
astray, my error concerns me alone.
If
indeed you would
exalt yourselves above me and use my disgrace against me,
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
Indeed, the evil man is
spared from the day of
calamity, delivered from the day of wrath.
Behold, as wild
asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising
betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.
Indeed, like wild
donkeys in the desert, the poor go to work
foraging for food; the wasteland is food for their children.
Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the
thunder of his power who can understand?
Indeed, these are but the fringes of His ways; how
faint is the
whisper we hear of Him! Who then can understand the
thunder of His power?”
Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.
Indeed, I waited while you spoke; I
listened to your reasoning; as you searched for words,
Indeed, it is true that God does not act wickedly, and the
Almighty does not
pervert justice.
Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.
Indeed, God is mighty, but He despises no one; He is mighty in strength of understanding.
Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.
Indeed, He drew you from the jaws of distress to a
spacious and broad place, to a table full of richness.
Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
Indeed, God is great—beyond our knowledge; the number of His years is unsearchable.
Moreover by them is thy servant
warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
By them
indeed Your servant is
warned; in keeping them is great reward.
Behold, thou hast made my days as an
handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee:
verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.
Selah.
You,
indeed, have made my days as handbreadths, and my lifetime as nothing before You. Truly each man at his best exists as but a breath.
Selah Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
Do you indeed speak justly, O rulers? Do you judge uprightly, O sons of men?
The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they
shout for joy, they also sing.
The pastures are clothed with flocks, and the valleys are decked with grain. They
shout in triumph;
indeed, they sing.
My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my
hurt.
My tongue will
indeed proclaim Your righteousness all day long, for those who seek my
harm are disgraced and confounded.
Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.
The LORD will indeed provide what is good, and our land will yield its increase.
Also I will make him my
firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
I will
indeed appoint him as My
firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength,
wherewith he hath
girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.
The LORD reigns! He is
robed in majesty; the LORD has clothed and armed Himself with strength. The world
indeed is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
When they were but a few men in number;
yea, very few, and strangers in it.
When they were few in number, few indeed, and strangers in the land,
Thy
testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.
Your
testimonies are
indeed my delight; they are my counselors.
Lo, children are an
heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the
womb is his reward.
Children are
indeed a
heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the
womb is His reward.
Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.
In this way indeed shall blessing come to the man who fears the LORD.
He who puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer, but the one who hates indebtedness is secure.
My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall
rejoice, even mine.
My son, if your heart is wise, my own heart will
indeed rejoice.
For all his days are sorrows, and his
travail grief;
yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.
Indeed, all his days are filled with grief, and his task is sorrowful; even at night, his mind does not rest. This too is
futile.
And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
And He replied: “Go and tell this people, ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall the
nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD hath spoken it.
In that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, the
peg driven into a firm place will give way; it will be
sheared off and fall, and the load upon it will be cut down.”
Indeed, the LORD has spoken.
For thou hast made of a city an
heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.
Indeed, You have made the city a
heap of
rubble, the fortified town a ruin. The fortress of strangers is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt.
With my soul have I desired thee in the night;
yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
My soul longs for You in the night;
indeed, my spirit seeks You at
dawn. For when Your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.
For with
stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
Indeed, with
mocking lips and foreign tongues, He will speak to this people
For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can
wrap himself in it.
Indeed, the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the
blanket too small to
wrap around you.
Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.
So now, do not
mock, or your
shackles will become heavier.
Indeed, I have heard from the Lord GOD of Hosts a decree of destruction against the whole land.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The grass
withers and the flowers fall when the breath of the LORD blows on them;
indeed, the people are grass.
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him;
yea, I have made him.
everyone called by My name and created for My glory, whom I have
indeed formed and made.”
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth
roast, and is satisfied:
yea, he warmeth himself, and saith,
Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:
He burns half of it in the fire, and he roasts meat on that half. He eats the
roast and is satisfied.
Indeed, he warms himself and says, “
Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.”
Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and
merchandise of
Ethiopia and of the
Sabeans, men of
stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make
supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
This is what the LORD says: “The products of Egypt and the
merchandise of
Cush, along with the
Sabeans, men of
stature, will come over to you and will be yours; they will
trudge behind you; they will come over in chains and bow down to you. They will
confess to you: ‘God is
indeed with you, and there is no other; there is no other God.’”
For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.
who
indeed call
yourselves after the holy city and
lean on the God of Israel; the LORD of Hosts is His name.
For thy waste and thy
desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that
swallowed thee up shall be far away.
For your ruined and
desolate places and your
ravaged land will now
indeed be too small for your people, and those who
devoured you will be far away.
But thus saith the LORD, Even the
captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will
contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall
clap their hands.
You will
indeed go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will
burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will
clap their hands.
Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
Your portion is among the smooth stones of the valley; indeed, they are your lot. Even to them you have poured out a drink offering and offered a grain offering. Should I relent because of these?
For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins
testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our
iniquities, we know them;
For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins
testify against us. Our transgressions are
indeed with us, and we know our
iniquities:
He that killeth an ox is as if he
slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offereth an
oblation, as if he offered
swine’s blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an
idol.
Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.
Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who slays a man;
whoever sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck;
whoever presents a grain offering is like one who offers pig’s blood;
whoever offers
frankincense is like one who blesses an
idol.
Indeed, they have chosen their own ways and delighted in their abominations.
For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and
burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not
transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the
harlot.
“For long ago you broke your yoke and
tore off your chains, saying, ‘I will not serve!’
Indeed, on every high hill and under every green tree you lay down as a
prostitute.
For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto
Baal.
Your gods are
indeed as numerous as your cities, O Judah; the altars of shame you have set up—the altars to burn incense to
Baal—are as many as the streets of Jerusalem.’
O LORD, though our
iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have
sinned against thee.
Although our
iniquities testify against us, O LORD, act for the sake of Your name.
Indeed, our rebellions are many; we have
sinned against You.
We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have
sinned against thee.
We acknowledge our wickedness, O LORD, the guilt of our fathers;
indeed, we have
sinned against You.
Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be
healed?
wilt thou be altogether unto me as a
liar, and as waters that fail?
Why is my pain unending, and my wound incurable, refusing to be
healed? You have
indeed become like a
mirage to me— water that is not there.
For thus saith the LORD, Enter not into the house of
mourning, neither go to
lament nor
bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the LORD, even lovingkindness and
mercies.
Indeed, this is what the LORD says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal. Do not go to
mourn or show sympathy, for I have removed from this people My peace, My loving devotion, and My
compassion,” declares the LORD.
For if ye do this thing
indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in
chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.
For if you will
indeed carry out these commands, then kings who sit on David’s throne will enter through the gates of this palace riding on
chariots and horses—they and their officials and their people.
Behold, I am against them that
prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to
err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.
“
Indeed,” declares the LORD, “I am against those who
prophesy false dreams and retell them to lead My people
astray with their
reckless lies. It was not I who sent them or commanded them, and they are of no benefit at all to these people,” declares the LORD.
But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make
intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
If they are
indeed prophets and the word of the LORD is with them, let them now
plead with the LORD of Hosts that the articles remaining in the house of the LORD, in the palace of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, not be taken to Babylon.
For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only
provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.
For the children of Israel and of Judah have done nothing but evil in My sight from their youth;
indeed, they have done nothing but
provoke Me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the LORD.
For though ye had
smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
Indeed, if you were to strike down the entire army of the Chaldeans that is fighting against you, and only wounded men remained in their tents, they would still get up and burn this city down.”
Then said Jeremiah unto
Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou
wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
Then Jeremiah said to
Zedekiah, “This is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you
indeed surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will live, this city will not be burned down, and you and your household will
survive.
If ye will still
abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not
pluck you up: for I
repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.
‘If you will
indeed stay in this land, then I will build you up and not
tear you down; I will plant you and not
uproot you, for I will relent of the
disaster I have brought upon you.
He made many to fall,
yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our
nativity, from the
oppressing sword.
They continue to
stumble;
indeed, they have fallen over one another. They say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the
oppressor.’
Because of the day that cometh to
spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the LORD will
spoil the Philistines, the
remnant of the country of Caphtor.
For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and
Sidon every remaining ally.
Indeed, the LORD is about to destroy the Philistines, the
remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.
Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be
desolate for ever.
and say, ‘O LORD, You have promised to cut off this place so that no one will remain—neither man nor beast.
Indeed, it will be
desolate forever.’
Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.
Indeed, He keeps turning His hand against me all day long.
Nevertheless if thou
warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he
doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is
warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.
But if you
warn the righteous man not to sin, and he does not sin, he will
indeed live because he
heeded your
warning, and you will have saved
yourself.”
Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my
skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness:
yea, I
sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.
Then I passed by and saw you, and you were
indeed old enough for love. So I spread My
cloak over you and covered your nakedness. I
pledged Myself to you, entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine, declares the Lord GOD.
And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and
defiled his neighbour’s wife,
though the father has done none of them:
Indeed, the son eats at the mountain and defiles his
neighbor’s wife.
In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit
lewdness.
So you revisited the
indecency of your youth, when the Egyptians
caressed your
bosom and pressed your young breasts.
Thus will I make thy
lewdness to cease from thee, and thy
whoredom brought from the land of Egypt: so that thou shalt not lift up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.
So I will put an end to your
indecency and
prostitution, which began in the land of Egypt, and you will not lift your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore.’
And they shall deal with thee
hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy
lewdness and thy whoredoms.
They will treat you with hatred, take all for which you have worked, and leave you naked and bare, so that the shame of your
prostitution will be exposed. Your
indecency and
promiscuity Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy
lewdness and thy whoredoms.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you have forgotten Me and have cast Me behind your back, you must bear the consequences of your
indecency and
prostitution.’”
Thus will I cause
lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your
lewdness.
And they shall
recompense your
lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
They will repay you for your
indecency, and you will bear the consequences of your sins of
idolatry. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.’”
Behold, therefore I will deliver thee to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall set their palaces in thee, and make their dwellings in thee: they shall eat thy fruit, and they shall drink thy milk.
therefore I will indeed give you as a possession to the people of the East. They will set up their camps and pitch their tents among you. They will eat your fruit and drink your milk.
Behold, therefore I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a
spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
therefore I will
indeed stretch out My hand against you and give you as
plunder to the nations. I will cut you off from the peoples and
exterminate you from the countries. I will destroy you, and you will know that I am the LORD.’
Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth,
Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim,
therefore I will
indeed expose the
flank of Moab beginning with its frontier cities—Beth-jeshimoth,
Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim—the glory of the land.
In that day shall messengers go forth from me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid, and great pain shall come upon them, as in the day of Egypt: for, lo, it cometh.
And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
Indeed, you are to them like a singer of love songs with a beautiful voice, who
skillfully plays an instrument. They hear your words but do not put them into practice.
And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.
He led me all around among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, and indeed, they were very dry.
The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the
calves of Beth-
aven: for the people thereof shall
mourn over it, and the priests thereof that
rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
The people of Samaria will fear for the
calf of Beth-
aven.
Indeed, its people will
mourn with its
idolatrous priests— those who
rejoiced in its glory— for it has been taken from them into exile.
