Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have
sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Now we who have believed enter that rest. As for the others, it is
just as God has said: “So I
swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’” And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world.
Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice,
harden not your hearts.
God again designated a certain day as “
Today,” when a long time later He spoke through David as was
just stated: “
Today, if you hear His voice, do not
harden your hearts.”
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
For
whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work,
just as God did from His.
And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was.
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the
mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
Now, however, Jesus has received a much more excellent ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is better and is founded on better promises.
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment,
For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not
tarry.
For, “In just a little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay.
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he shrinks back, I will take no pleasure in him.”
Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,
To the general assembly and church of the
firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of
just men made perfect,
in joyful assembly, to the congregation of the
firstborn,
enrolled in heaven. You have come to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
For
whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet
offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles at
just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Was not our father Abraham justified by what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
As you can see, a man is justified by his deeds and not by faith alone.
Likewise also was not
Rahab the
harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
Ye have condemned and killed the
just; and he
doth not resist you.
You have condemned and murdered the righteous, who did not resist you.
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Elijah was a man
just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do,
Who, when he was
reviled,
reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
When they
heaped abuse on Him, He did not
retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges
justly.
Even as
Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any
amazement.
just as
Sarah obeyed Abraham and called him lord. And you are her children if you do what is right and refuse to give way to fear.
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the
just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but
quickened by the Spirit:
For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit,
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who
privily shall bring in
damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
Now there were also false prophets among the people,
just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive
heresies, even denying the Master who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.
And delivered
just Lot,
vexed with the
filthy conversation of the wicked:
and if He
rescued Lot, a righteous man distressed by the
depraved conduct of the lawless
For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they
allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much
wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
With lofty but empty words, they appeal to the
sensual passions of the flesh and
entice those who are
just escaping from others who live in error.
And account that the
longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
Consider also that our Lord’s
patience brings salvation,
just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him.
If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to
forgive us our sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we
confess our sins, He is faithful and
just to
forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that
antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
Children, it is the last hour; and
just as you have heard that the
antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. This is how we know it is the last hour.
But the
anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same
anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall
abide in him.
And as for you, the
anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need
anyone to teach you. But
just as His true and genuine
anointing teaches you about all things, so remain in Him as you have been taught.
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
And
everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself,
just as Christ is pure.
Little children, let no man
deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
Little children, let no one
deceive you: The one who practices righteousness is righteous,
just as Christ is righteous.
And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
And this is His commandment: that we should believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and we should love one another just as He commanded us.
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
In this way, love has been perfected among us, so that we may have confidence on the day of judgment; for in this world we are just like Him.
I
rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
I was overjoyed to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father has commanded us.
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a
potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
He will rule them with an iron
scepter and
shatter them like pottery—
just as I have received authority from My Father.
To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
Then each of them was given a white
robe and told to rest a little while longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers, were killed,
just as they had been killed.
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the
mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound his
trumpet, the
mystery of God will be fulfilled,
just as He proclaimed to His servants the prophets.”
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God
Almighty;
just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
and they
sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb: “Great and wonderful are Your works, O Lord God
Almighty!
Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations!
And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God
Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
And I heard the altar reply: “
Yes, Lord God
Almighty, true and
just are Your judgments.”
For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great
whore, which did corrupt the earth with her
fornication, and hath
avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
For His judgments are true and
just. He has judged the great
prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has
avenged the blood of His servants that was poured out by her hand.”
With her there is no accepting of persons or rewards; but she doeth the things that are just, and refraineth from all unjust and wicked things; and all men do well like of her works.
And thou,
Esdras, according to the wisdom of God
ordain judges and
justices, that they may judge in all Syria and Phenice all those that know the law of thy God; and those that know it not thou shalt teach.
For the just, which have many good works laid up with thee, shall out of their own deeds receive reward.
For if thou shalt acknowledge the determination of God to be
just, thou shalt both receive thy son in time, and shalt be
commended among women.
And I said, Lord that bearest rule, if I have found grace before thy sight, and if I am justified with thee before many others, and if my prayer indeed be come up before thy face;
I will hold my tongue no more as touching their wickedness, which they
profanely commit, neither will I suffer them in those things, in which they wickedly exercise themselves: behold, the innocent and righteous blood crieth unto me, and the souls of the
just complain continually.
I
Tobit have walked all the days of my life in the ways of truth and
justice, and I did many almsdeeds to my brethren, and my nation, who came with me to Nineve, into the land of the Assyrians.
O Lord, thou art just, and all thy works and all thy ways are mercy and truth, and thou judgest truly and justly for ever.
For if thou deal truly, thy doings shall prosperously succeed to thee, and to all them that live justly.
Pour out thy bread on the burial of the just, but give nothing to the wicked.
If ye turn to him with your whole heart, and with your whole mind, and deal uprightly before him, then will he turn unto you, and will not hide his face from you. Therefore see what he will do with you, and
confess him with your whole mouth, and praise the Lord of might, and
extol the
everlasting King. In the land of my captivity do I praise him, and declare his might and majesty to a sinful nation. O ye sinners, turn and do
justice before him: who can tell if he will accept you, and have mercy on you?
Rejoice and be
glad for the children of the
just: for they shall be gathered together, and shall
bless the Lord of the
just.
So shall all nations praise the Lord, and his people shall
confess God, and the Lord shall
exalt his people; and all those which love the Lord God in truth and
justice shall
rejoice,
shewing mercy to our brethren.
But keep thou the law and the commandments, and
shew thyself merciful and
just, that it may go well with thee.
So God remembered his people, and justified his inheritance.
And take not only
thankfulness away from among men, but also lifted up with the glorious words of
lewd persons, that were never good, they think to escape the
justice of God, that
seeth all things and hateth evil.
But we find that the Jews, whom this wicked
wretch hath delivered to utter destruction, are no evildoers, but live by most
just laws:
Let our strength be the law of justice: for that which is feeble is found to be nothing worth.
We are esteemed of him as counterfeits: he abstaineth from our ways as from
filthiness: he pronounceth the end of the
just to be blessed, and maketh his
boast that God is his father.
For if the just man be the son of God, he will help him, and deliver him from the hand of his enemies.
And if a man love righteousness her labours are virtues: for she teacheth
temperance and
prudence,
justice and
fortitude: which are such things, as men can have nothing more profitable in their life.
But by such works hast thou taught thy people that the
just man should be
merciful, and hast made thy children to be of a good hope that thou givest
repentance for sins.
For it is not the power of them by whom they
swear: but it is the
just vengeance of sinners, that punisheth always the offence of the ungodly.
And punishments came upon the sinners not without former signs by the force of thunders: for they suffered
justly according to their own wickedness,
insomuch as they used a more hard and
hateful behaviour toward strangers.
A
furious man cannot be
justified; for the
sway of his
fury shall be his destruction.
And let just men eat and drink with thee; and let thy glorying be in the fear of the Lord.
Who will
justify him that sinneth against his own soul? and who will honour him that dishonoureth his own life?
When a rich man is fallen, he hath many helpers: he speaketh things not to be spoken, and yet men
justify him: the poor man
slipped, and yet they
rebuked him too; he spake wisely, and could have no place.
Trust not thou in their life, neither respect their multitude: for one that is just is better than a thousand; and better it is to die without children, than to have them that are ungodly.
Who can declare the works of his
justice? or who can
endure them? for his covenant is
afar off, and the trial of all things is in the end.
Let nothing hinder thee to pay thy
vow in due time, and
defer not until death to be
justified.
There is an
exquisite subtilty, and the same is unjust; and there is one that turneth aside to make judgment appear; and there is a wise man that
justifieth in judgment.
He that loveth gold shall not be justified, and he that followeth corruption shall have enough thereof.
They that fear the Lord shall find judgment, and shall
kindle justice as a light.
The sacrifice of a
just man is acceptable. and the
memorial thereof shall never be forgotten.
They shall not be sought for in publick counsel, nor sit high in the congregation: they shall not sit on the judges’ seat, nor understand the sentence of judgment: they cannot declare justice and judgment; and they shall not be found where parables are spoken.
Of the law of the most High, and his covenant; and of judgment to
justify the ungodly;
Better therefore is the just man that hath none idols: for he shall be far from reproach.
And they
perverted their own mind, and turned away their eyes, that they might not look unto heaven, nor remember
just judgments.
Thou therefore, O Lord, that art the God of the
just, hast not appointed
repentance to the
just, as to Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, which have not
sinned against thee; but thou hast appointed
repentance unto me that am a
sinner:
Then many that sought after justice and judgment went down into the wilderness, to dwell there:
Then did there
assemble unto Alcimus and Bacchides a company of
scribes, to require
justice.
If therefore they
complain any more against thee, we will do them
justice, and fight with thee by sea and by land.
The people therefore
sang the acts of Simon, and unto what glory he thought to bring his nation, made him their governor and chief priest, because he had done all these things, and for the
justice and faith which he kept to his nation, and for that he sought by all means to
exalt his people.
The only giver of all things, the only
just,
almighty, and
everlasting, thou that deliverest Israel from all trouble, and
didst choose the fathers, and
sanctify them:
Wherefore
Menelaus, taking
Andronicus apart, prayed, him to get Onias into his hands; who being persuaded
thereunto, and coming to Onias in
deceit, gave him his right hand with oaths; and though he were suspected by him, yet persuaded he him to come forth of the sanctuary: whom
forthwith he shut up without regard of
justice.
For our brethren, who now have suffered a short pain, are dead under God’s covenant of
everlasting life: but thou, through the judgment of God, shalt receive
just punishment for thy pride.
And that in me and my brethren the wrath of the
Almighty, which is
justly brought upon our nation, may cease.
They that were fearful, and distrusted the justice of God, fled, and conveyed themselves away.
And that most
justly: for he had
tormented other men’s
bowels with many and strange torments.
But for all this his pains would not cease: for the
just judgment of God was come upon him: therefore
despairing of his health, he wrote unto the Jews the letter underwritten, containing the form of a
supplication, after this manner:
For Ptolemeus, that was called
Macron, choosing rather to do
justice unto the Jews for the wrong that had been done unto them, endeavoured to continue peace with them.
Such a death it happened that wicked man to die, not having so much as burial in the earth; and that most justly:
