And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Now in the
eighteenth year of his reign, when he had
purged the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the
LORD his God.
Now in the
eighteenth year of his reign, in order to
cleanse the land and the temple,
Josiah sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah son of Joahaz, the recorder, to repair the house of the
LORD his God.
And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the
LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the
LORD, to repair and
amend the house:
They put it into the hands of the supervisors of those doing the work of the house of the LORD, who in turn gave it to the workmen restoring and repairing the house of the LORD.
And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
While they were bringing out the money that had been taken into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the LORD written by Moses.
And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the
scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the
LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
And Hilkiah said to Shaphan the
scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the
LORD!” And he gave it to Shaphan.
And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand of the workmen.
They have paid out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have put it into the hands of the supervisors and workers.”
Go,
enquire of the
LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the
LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the
LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for those remaining in Israel and Judah concerning the words in the book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that has been poured out on us because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD by doing all that is written in this book.”
And she answered them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell ye the man that sent you to me,
And Huldah said to them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Tell the man who sent you
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
that this is what the
LORD says: I am about to bring
calamity on this place and on its people, according to all the curses written in the book that has been read in the presence of the king of Judah,
And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to
enquire of the
LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the
LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard;
But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘As for the words that you heard,
Because thine heart was tender, and thou
didst humble
thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst
thyself before me, and
didst rend thy clothes, and
weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the
LORD.
because your heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its people, and because you have humbled
yourself before Me and you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have heard you,’ declares the
LORD.
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.
And he went up to the house of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as well as the priests and the Levites—all the people small and great—and in their hearing he read all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.
And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the
LORD, to walk after the
LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his
testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.
So the king stood by the
pillar and made a covenant before the
LORD to follow the
LORD and to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book.
And
Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that
pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the
LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the
LORD, the God of their fathers.
And
Josiah removed all the abominations from all the lands belonging to the Israelites, and he required
everyone in Israel to serve the
LORD their God. Throughout his reign they did not turn aside from following the
LORD, the God of their fathers.
And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD,
He appointed the priests to their duties and encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD.
And said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did build; it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders: serve now the LORD your God, and his people Israel,
To the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the
LORD,
Josiah said: “Put the holy ark in the temple built by Solomon son of David king of Israel. It is not to be carried around on your shoulders. Now serve the
LORD your God and His people Israel.
So kill the
passover, and
sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the
LORD by the hand of Moses.
Slaughter the
Passover lambs,
consecrate yourselves, and make preparations for your fellow countrymen to carry out the word of the
LORD given by Moses.”
And they removed the burnt offerings, that they might give according to the divisions of the families of the people, to offer unto the LORD, as it is written in the book of Moses. And so did they with the oxen.
They set aside the burnt offerings to be given to the divisions of the families of the people to offer to the LORD, as is written in the Book of Moses; and they did the same with the bulls.
So all the service of the
LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the
passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the
LORD, according to the commandment of king
Josiah.
So on that day the entire service of the
LORD was carried out for
celebrating the
Passover and offering burnt offerings on the altar of the
LORD, according to the command of King
Josiah.
Now the rest of the acts of
Josiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the
LORD,
As for the rest of the acts of
Josiah, along with his deeds of loving devotion according to what is written in the Law of the
LORD—
Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the
LORD his God.
Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. And he did evil in the sight of the
LORD his God.
Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of the
LORD to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon.
Nebuchadnezzar also took to Babylon some of the articles from the house of the
LORD, and he put them in his temple in Babylon.
Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the
LORD.
Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months and ten days. And he did evil in the sight of the
LORD.
And when the year was
expired, king
Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the
LORD, and made
Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.
In the spring, King
Nebuchadnezzar summoned
Jehoiachin and brought him to Babylon, along with the articles of value from the house of the
LORD. And he made
Jehoiachin’s relative
Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke for the LORD.
Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people,
transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and
polluted the house of the
LORD which he had
hallowed in Jerusalem.
Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people multiplied their unfaithful deeds, following all the abominations of the nations, and they
defiled the house of the
LORD, which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.
And the
LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up
betimes, and sending; because he had
compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:
Again and again the
LORD, the God of their fathers, sent word to His people through His messengers because He had
compassion on them and on His dwelling place.
But they
mocked the messengers of God, and
despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the
LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
But they
mocked the messengers of God,
despising His words and
scoffing at His prophets, until the wrath of the
LORD against His people was
stirred up beyond remedy.
And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon.
who carried off everything to Babylon—all the articles of the house of God, both large and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king and his officials.
To fulfil the word of the
LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay
desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil
threescore and ten years.
So the land enjoyed its Sabbath rest all the days of the
desolation, until seventy years were completed, in
fulfillment of the word of the
LORD through Jeremiah.
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the
LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the
LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, to
fulfill the word of the
LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the
LORD stirred the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his kingdom and to put it in writing as follows:
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The
LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Whoever among you belongs to His people, may the
LORD his God be with him, and may he go up.’”
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the
LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the
LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, to
fulfill the word of the
LORD spoken through Jeremiah, the
LORD stirred the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to send a
proclamation throughout his kingdom and to put it in writing as follows:
Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, who has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, has appointed me to build a house for Him at Jerusalem in Judah.
Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.
Whoever among you belongs to His people, may his God be with him, and may he go to Jerusalem in Judah and build the house of the
LORD, the God of Israel; He is the God who is in Jerusalem.
Then rose up the chief of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem.
So the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, along with the priests and Levites—
everyone whose spirit God had
stirred—prepared to go up and rebuild the house of the
LORD in Jerusalem.
Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the
LORD, which
Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put them in the house of his gods;
King Cyrus also brought out the articles belonging to the house of the
LORD that
Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and placed in the temple of his gods.
And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:
When they arrived at the house of the
LORD in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave
freewill offerings to rebuild the house of God on its original site.
And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings
thereon unto the
LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening.
They set up the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD—both the morning and evening burnt offerings—even though they feared the people of the land.
And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the
LORD that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a
freewill offering unto the
LORD.
After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings and those for New Moons and for all the appointed sacred feasts of the
LORD, as well as all the
freewill offerings brought to the
LORD.
From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid.
On the first day of the seventh month, the Israelites began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, although the foundation of the temple of the LORD had not been laid.
Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the
remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the
LORD.
In the second month of the second year after they had arrived at the house of God in Jerusalem,
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their associates including the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned to Jerusalem from the captivity, began the work. They appointed Levites twenty years of age or older to
supervise the construction of the house of the
LORD.
And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the
LORD, they set the priests in their
apparel with
trumpets, and the Levites the sons of
Asaph with cymbals, to praise the
LORD, after the
ordinance of David king of Israel.
When the builders had laid the foundation of the temple of the
LORD, the priests in their
apparel with
trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of
Asaph) with cymbals, took their positions to praise the
LORD, as David king of Israel had prescribed.
And they
sang together by course in praising and giving
thanks unto the
LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people
shouted with a great
shout, when they praised the
LORD, because the foundation of the house of the
LORD was laid.
And they
sang responsively with praise and
thanksgiving to the
LORD: “For He is good; for His loving devotion to Israel endures
forever.” Then all the people gave a great
shout of praise to the
LORD, because the foundation of the house of the
LORD had been laid.
Now when the
adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the
LORD God of Israel;
When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the exiles were building a temple for the LORD, the God of Israel,
But
Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the
LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.
But
Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the other heads of the families of Israel replied, “You have no part with us in building a house for our God, since we alone must build it for the
LORD, the God of Israel, as Cyrus king of Persia has commanded us.”
And the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the
filthiness of the heathen of the land, to seek the
LORD God of Israel, did eat,
The Israelites who had returned from exile
ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from the uncleanness of the peoples of the land to seek the
LORD, the God of Israel.
And kept the feast of
unleavened bread seven days with joy: for the
LORD had made them joyful, and turned the heart of the king of Assyria unto them, to
strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.
For seven days they kept the Feast of
Unleavened Bread with joy, because the
LORD had made them joyful and turned the heart of the king of Assyria toward them to
strengthen their hands in the work on the house of the God of Israel.
This
Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready
scribe in the law of Moses, which the
LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the
LORD his God upon him.
this
Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a
scribe skilled in the Law of Moses, which the
LORD, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted
Ezra all his requests, for the hand of the
LORD his God was upon him.
For
Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the
LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.
For
Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the
LORD, to practice it, and to teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.
Now this is the copy of the letter that the king
Artaxerxes gave unto
Ezra the priest, the
scribe, even a
scribe of the words of the commandments of the
LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.
This is the text of the letter King
Artaxerxes had given to
Ezra the priest and
scribe, an
expert in the commandments and statutes of the
LORD to Israel:
Blessed be the
LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to
beautify the house of the
LORD which is in Jerusalem:
Blessed be the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put into the heart of the king to so honor the house of the LORD in Jerusalem,
And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
and who has shown me favor before the king, his counselors, and all his powerful officials. And because the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, I took courage and gathered the leaders of Israel to return with me.
And
weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his
lords, and all Israel there present, had offered:
and I
weighed out to them the contribution of silver and gold and the articles that the king, his counselors, his leaders, and all the Israelites there had offered for the house of our God.
And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the
LORD; the vessels are holy also; and the silver and the gold are a
freewill offering unto the
LORD God of your fathers.
Then I told them, “You are holy to the
LORD, and these articles are holy. The silver and gold are a
freewill offering to the
LORD, the God of your fathers.
Watch ye, and keep them, until ye
weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the
LORD.
Guard them carefully until you
weigh them out in the chambers of the house of the
LORD in Jerusalem before the leading priests, Levites, and heads of the
Israelite families.”
Also the children of those that had been carried away, which were come out of the captivity, offered burnt offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel,
ninety and six rams, seventy and seven lambs, twelve he goats for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering unto the
LORD.
Then the exiles who had returned from captivity sacrificed burnt offerings to the God of Israel: 12 bulls for all Israel, 96 rams, 77 lambs, and a sin offering of 12 male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the LORD.
And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my
heaviness; and having rent my garment and my
mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the
LORD my God.
At the evening offering, I got up from my
humiliation with my
tunic and
cloak torn, and I fell on my knees, spread out my hands to the
LORD my God,
And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the
LORD our God, to leave us a
remnant to escape, and to give us a
nail in his holy place, that our God may
lighten our eyes, and give us a little
reviving in our
bondage.
But now, for a brief moment, grace has come from the
LORD our God to preserve for us a
remnant and to give us a
stake in His holy place. Even in our
bondage, our God has given us new life and light to our eyes.
O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
O
LORD, God of Israel, You are righteous! For we remain this day as a
remnant. Here we are before You in our guilt, though because of it no one can stand before You.”
Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my
lord, and of those that
tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
So now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all the foreign wives and their children, according to the counsel of my
lord and of those who
tremble at the command of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
Now therefore make confession unto the
LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate
yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.
Now, therefore, make a confession to the
LORD, the God of your fathers, and do His will. Separate
yourselves from the people of the land and from your foreign wives.”
And said, I
beseech thee, O
LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
Then I said: “O
LORD, God of heaven, the great and
awesome God who keeps His covenant of loving devotion with those who love Him and keep His commandments,
O
Lord, I
beseech thee, let now thine ear be
attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and
prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s
cupbearer.
O
Lord, may Your ear be
attentive to my prayer and to the prayers of Your servants who delight to
revere Your name. Give Your servant success this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” (At that time I was the
cupbearer to the king.)
And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord.
Next to him, the Tekoites made repairs, but their nobles did not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.
And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
After I had made an inspection, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the
Lord, who is great and
awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
Also I
shook my
lap, and said, So God
shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he
shaken out, and
emptied. And all the congregation said,
Amen, and praised the
LORD. And the people did according to this promise.
I also
shook out the folds of my
robe and said, “May God likewise
shake out of His house and possession every man who does not keep this promise. May such a man be
shaken out and have nothing!” The whole assembly said, “
Amen,” and they praised the
LORD. And the people did as they had promised.
And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto
Ezra the
scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the
LORD had commanded to Israel.
At that time all the people gathered together in the square before the Water Gate, and they asked
Ezra the
scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the
LORD had commanded for Israel.
And
Ezra blessed the
LORD, the great God. And all the people answered,
Amen,
Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the
LORD with their faces to the ground.
Then
Ezra blessed the
LORD, the great God, and with their hands
uplifted, all the people said, “
Amen,
Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the
LORD with their faces to the ground.
And
Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and
Ezra the priest the
scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the
LORD your God;
mourn not, nor
weep. For all the people
wept, when they heard the words of the law.
Nehemiah the governor,
Ezra the priest and
scribe, and the Levites who were
instructing the people said to all of them, “This day is holy to the
LORD your God. Do not
mourn or
weep.” For all the people were
weeping as they heard the words of the Law.
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our
Lord: neither be ye
sorry; for the joy of the
LORD is your strength.
Then
Nehemiah told them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send out portions to those who have nothing prepared, since
today is holy to our
Lord. Do not
grieve, for the joy of the
LORD is your strength.”
And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:
And they found written in the Law, which the LORD had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month.
And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the
LORD their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they
confessed, and worshipped the
LORD their God.
While they stood in their places, they read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day, and they spent another quarter of the day in confession and worship of the LORD their God.
Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and
cried with a loud voice unto the
LORD their God.
And the Levites—Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani—stood on the raised platform and
cried out in a loud voice to the
LORD their God.
Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and
bless the
LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is
exalted above all blessing and praise.
Then the Levites—Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah—said, “Stand up and
bless the
LORD your God from
everlasting to
everlasting: Blessed be Your glorious name, and may it be
exalted above all blessing and praise.
Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
You alone are the LORD. You created the heavens, the highest heavens with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to all things, and the host of heaven worships You.
Thou art the
LORD the God, who
didst choose
Abram, and broughtest him forth out of
Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
You are the
LORD, the God who chose
Abram, who brought him out of
Ur of the Chaldeans and gave him the name Abraham.
They
clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a
curse, and into an oath, to walk in God’s law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the
LORD our
Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;
hereby join with their noble brothers and commit themselves with a
sworn oath to follow the Law of God given through His servant Moses and to carefully obey all the commandments, ordinances, and statutes of the
LORD our
Lord.
And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the law:
We have cast lots among the priests, Levites, and people for the
donation of wood by our families at the appointed times each year. They are to bring it to the house of our God to burn on the altar of the
LORD our God, as it is written in the Law.
And to bring the firstfruits of our ground, and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year, unto the house of the LORD:
We will also bring the firstfruits of our land and of every fruit tree to the house of the LORD year by year.
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the
LORD, and
Satan came also among them.
One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the
LORD, and
Satan also came with them.
And the
LORD said unto
Satan, Whence comest thou? Then
Satan answered the
LORD, and said, From going to and
fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
“Where have you come from?” said the
LORD to
Satan. “From
roaming through the earth,” he replied, “and walking back and forth in it.”
And the
LORD said unto
Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Then the
LORD said to
Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one on earth like him, a man who is
blameless and upright, who fears God and shuns evil.”
Satan answered the
LORD, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
And the
LORD said unto
Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So
Satan went forth from the presence of the
LORD.
“Very well,” said the
LORD to
Satan. “Everything he has is in your hands, but you must not lay a hand on the man himself.” Then
Satan went out from the presence of the
LORD.
And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s
womb, and naked shall I return thither: the
LORD gave, and the
LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the
LORD.
saying: “Naked I came from my mother’s
womb, and naked I will return. The
LORD gave, and the
LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the
LORD.”
Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the
LORD, and
Satan came also among them to present himself before the
LORD.
On another day the sons of God came to present themselves before the
LORD, and
Satan also came with them to present himself before Him.
And the
LORD said unto
Satan, From whence comest thou? And
Satan answered the
LORD, and said, From going to and
fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
“Where have you come from?” said the
LORD to
Satan. “From
roaming through the earth,” he replied, “and walking back and forth in it.”
And the
LORD said unto
Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his
integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
Then the
LORD said to
Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one on earth like him, a man who is
blameless and upright, who fears God and shuns evil. He still retains his
integrity, even though you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.”
And
Satan answered the
LORD, and said, Skin for skin,
yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
“Skin for skin!”
Satan replied. “A man will give up all he owns in exchange for his life.
And the
LORD said unto
Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
“Very well,” said the
LORD to
Satan. “He is in your hands, but you must
spare his life.”
So went
Satan forth from the presence of the
LORD, and
smote Job with
sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
So
Satan went out from the presence of the
LORD and
infected Job with terrible boils from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.
Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?
Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
And He said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”
Then the
LORD answered Job out of the
whirlwind, and said,
Then the
LORD answered Job out of the
whirlwind and said:
Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,
And the LORD said to Job:
Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
Then Job answered the LORD:
Then answered the
LORD unto Job out of the
whirlwind, and said,
Then the
LORD answered Job out of the
whirlwind and said:
