And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
And now, because you have done all these things, declares the
LORD, and because I have spoken to you again and again but you would not
listen, and I have called to you but you would not answer,
Do they
provoke me to anger? saith the
LORD: do they not
provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
But am I the One they are
provoking? declares the
LORD. Is it not themselves they spite, to their own shame?
Therefore thus saith the
Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my
fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be
quenched.
Therefore this is what the
Lord GOD says: Behold, My anger and My
fury will be poured out on this place, on man and beast, on the trees of the field and the produce of the land, and it will burn and not be
extinguished.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.
This is what the
LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat
yourselves!
But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
Therefore you must say to them, ‘This is the nation that would not
listen to the voice of the
LORD their God and would not receive correction. Truth has perished; it has disappeared from their lips.
Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a
lamentation on high places; for the
LORD hath rejected and
forsaken the generation of his wrath.
Cut off your hair and throw it away. Raise up a
lamentation on the barren heights, for the
LORD has rejected and
forsaken the generation of His wrath.’
For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the
LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to
pollute it.
For the people of Judah have done evil in My sight, declares the
LORD. They have set up their abominations in the house that bears My Name, and so have
defiled it.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the
LORD, that it shall no more be called
Tophet, nor the valley of the son of
Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall
bury in
Tophet, till there be no place.
So behold, the days are coming, declares the
LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth and the Valley of
Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. For they will
bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room.
At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
“At that time,” declares the LORD, “the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of the officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the people of Jerusalem will be removed from their graves.
And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the places
whither I have driven them, saith the
LORD of hosts.
And wherever I have banished them, the
remnant of this evil family will choose death over life,” declares the
LORD of Hosts.
Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
So you are to tell them this is what the LORD says: “Do men fall and not get up again? Does one turn away and not return?
Yea, the
stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the
turtle and the
crane and the
swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the
LORD.
Even the
stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons. The
turtledove, the swift, and the
thrush keep their time of
migration, but My people do not know the requirements of the
LORD.
How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the
LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the
scribes is in vain.
How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the Law of the
LORD is with us,’ when in fact the lying pen of the
scribes has produced a
deception?
The wise men are
ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the
LORD; and what wisdom is in them?
The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and
trapped. Since they have rejected the word of the
LORD, what wisdom do they really have?
Were they
ashamed when they had committed
abomination?
nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they
blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their
visitation they shall be cast down, saith the
LORD.
Are they
ashamed of the
abomination they have committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to
blush. So they will fall among the fallen; when I
punish them, they will
collapse, says the
LORD.
I will surely
consume them, saith the
LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall
fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.
I will take away their harvest, declares the LORD. There will be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the tree, and even the leaf will wither. Whatever I have given them will be lost to them.”
Why do we sit still?
assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the
LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have
sinned against the
LORD.
Why are we just sitting here? Gather together, let us
flee to the fortified cities and perish there, for the
LORD our God has
doomed us. He has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have
sinned against the
LORD.
For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall
bite you, saith the
LORD.
“For behold, I will send snakes among you, vipers that cannot be charmed, and they will
bite you,” declares the
LORD.
Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the
LORD in
Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they
provoked me to anger with their
graven images, and with strange
vanities?
Listen to the cry of the daughter of my people from a land far away: “Is the
LORD no longer in
Zion? Is her King no longer there?” “Why have they
provoked Me to anger with their carved images, with their worthless foreign idols?”
And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not
valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the
LORD.
“They bend their tongues like bows; lies prevail over truth in the land. For they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not take Me into account,” declares the LORD.
You dwell in the midst of
deception; in their
deceit they refuse to know Me,” declares the
LORD.
Therefore thus saith the
LORD of hosts, Behold, I will
melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?
Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Behold, I will refine them and test them, for what else can I do because of the daughter of My people?
Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the
LORD: shall not my soul be
avenged on such a nation as this?
Should I not
punish them for these things? declares the
LORD. Should I not
avenge Myself on such a nation as this?”
Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
Who is the man wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the
LORD spoken, that he may explain it? Why is the land destroyed and
scorched like a desert, so no one can pass through it?
And the
LORD saith, Because they have
forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein;
And the
LORD answered, “It is because they have
forsaken My law, which I set before them; they have not walked in it or obeyed My voice.
Therefore thus saith the
LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with
wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.
Therefore this is what the
LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will feed this people
wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink.
Thus saith the
LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the
mourning women, that they may come; and send for
cunning women, that they may come:
This is what the
LORD of Hosts says: “Take note, and
summon the
wailing women; send for the most skillful among them.
Yet hear the word of the
LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters
wailing, and every one her neighbour
lamentation.
Now, O women, hear the word of the
LORD. Open your ears to the word of His mouth. Teach your daughters to
wail, and one another to
lament.
Speak, Thus saith the
LORD, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the
harvestman, and none shall gather them.
Declare that this is what the
LORD says: “The corpses of men will fall like dung upon the open field, like newly cut grain behind the
reaper, with no one to gather it.”
Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
This is what the
LORD says: “Let not the wise man
boast in his wisdom, nor the strong man in his strength, nor the wealthy man in his riches.
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
But let him who boasts
boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the
LORD, who exercises loving devotion, justice and righteousness on the earth— for I delight in these things,” declares the
LORD.
Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
Hear the word that the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel.
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
This is what the
LORD says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be
terrified by the signs in the heavens, though the nations themselves are
terrified by them.
Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O
LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
There is none like You, O LORD. You are great, and Your name is mighty in power.
But the
LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an
everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall
tremble, and the nations shall not be able to
abide his
indignation.
But the
LORD is the true God; He is the living God and eternal King. The earth quakes at His wrath, and the nations cannot
endure His
indignation.
He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his
discretion.
The LORD made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding.
The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.
The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance— the LORD of Hosts is His name.
For thus saith the
LORD, Behold, I will
sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.
For this is what the
LORD says: “Behold, at this time I will
sling out the inhabitants of the land and bring distress upon them so that they may be captured.”
For the pastors are become
brutish, and have not sought the
LORD: therefore they shall not
prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
For the
shepherds have become senseless; they do not seek the
LORD. Therefore they have not
prospered, and all their flock is scattered.
O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
I know, O LORD, that a man’s way is not his own; no one who walks directs his own steps.
O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
Correct me, O LORD, but only with justice— not in Your anger, or You will bring me to nothing.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
And say thou unto them, Thus saith the
LORD God of Israel;
Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
You must tell them that this is what the
LORD, the God of Israel, says:
Cursed is the man who does not obey the words of this covenant,
That I may perform the oath which I have
sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O
LORD.
This was in order to establish the oath I
swore to your forefathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is to this day.” “
Amen,
LORD,” I answered.
Then the
LORD said unto me,
Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
Then the
LORD said to me, “
Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: Hear the words of this covenant and carry them out.
And the
LORD said unto me, A
conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And the
LORD told me, “There is a
conspiracy among the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem.
Therefore thus saith the
LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not
hearken unto them.
Therefore this is what the
LORD says: ‘I am about to bring upon them a
disaster that they cannot escape. They will cry out to Me, but I will not
listen to them.
The
LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great
tumult he hath
kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
The
LORD once called you a flourishing olive tree, beautiful with well-formed fruit. But with a mighty
roar He will set it on fire, and its branches will be consumed.
For the
LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to
provoke me to anger in offering incense unto
Baal.
The
LORD of Hosts, who planted you, has decreed
disaster against you on account of the evil that the house of Israel and the house of Judah have brought upon themselves,
provoking Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal.”
And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
And the LORD informed me, so I knew. Then You showed me their deeds.
But, O
LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the
reins and the heart, let me see thy
vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
O
LORD of Hosts, who judges righteously, who examines the heart and mind, let me see Your
vengeance upon them, for to You I have committed my cause.
Therefore thus saith the
LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying,
Prophesy not in the name of the
LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
Therefore this is what the
LORD says concerning the people of Anathoth who are seeking your life and saying, “You must not
prophesy in the name of the
LORD, or you will die by our hand.”
Therefore thus saith the
LORD of hosts, Behold, I will
punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
So this is what the
LORD of Hosts says: “I will
punish them. Their young men will die by the sword, their sons and daughters by famine.
Righteous art thou, O
LORD, when I
plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore
doth the way of the wicked
prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very
treacherously?
Righteous are You, O
LORD, when I
plead before You. Yet about Your judgments I wish to
contend with You: Why does the way of the wicked
prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?
But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
But You know me, O
LORD; You see me and test my heart toward You.
Drag away the wicked like sheep to the slaughter and set them apart for the day of
carnage.
The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the
LORD shall
devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.
Over all the barren heights in the wilderness the destroyers have come, for the sword of the LORD devours from one end of the earth to the other. No flesh has peace.
They have sown wheat, but shall
reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be
ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the
LORD.
They have sown wheat but harvested thorns. They have exhausted themselves to no
avail. Bear the shame of your harvest because of the fierce anger of the
LORD.”
Thus saith the
LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to
inherit; Behold, I will
pluck them out of their land, and
pluck out the house of Judah from among them.
This is what the
LORD says: “As for all My evil neighbors who attack the inheritance that I
bequeathed to My people Israel, I am about to
uproot them from their land, and I will
uproot the house of Judah from among them.
And it shall come to pass, if they will
diligently learn the ways of my people, to
swear by my name, The
LORD liveth; as they taught my people to
swear by
Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.
And if they will
diligently learn the ways of My people and
swear by My name, saying, ‘As surely as the
LORD lives’—just as they once taught My people to
swear by
Baal—then they will be established among My people.
But if they will not obey, I will utterly
pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the
LORD.
But if they will not obey, then I will
uproot that nation; I will
uproot it and destroy it, declares the
LORD.”
Thus saith the
LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen
girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.
This is what the
LORD said to me: “Go and
buy yourself a linen loincloth and put it around your
waist, but do not let it touch water.”
So I got a
girdle according to the word of the
LORD, and put it on my loins.
So I bought a loincloth as the
LORD had
instructed me, and I put it around my
waist.
And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time:
So I went, and
hid it by Euphrates, as the
LORD commanded me.
So I went and
hid it at Perath, as the
LORD had commanded me.
And it came to pass after many days, that the
LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the
girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.
Many days later the LORD said to me, “Arise, go to Perath, and get the loincloth that I commanded you to hide there.”
Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me:
Thus saith the
LORD, After this manner will I
mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.
“This is what the LORD says: In the same way I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
For as the
girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to
cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the
LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
For just as a loincloth clings to a man’s
waist, so I have made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah
cling to Me, declares the
LORD, so that they might be My people for My
renown and praise and glory. But they did not
listen.
Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the
LORD God of Israel, Every
bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every
bottle shall be filled with wine?
Therefore you are to tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Every wineskin shall be filled with wine.’ And when they reply, ‘Don’t we surely know that every wineskin should be filled with wine?’
Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the
LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with
drunkenness.
then you are to tell them that this is what the
LORD says: ‘I am going to fill with
drunkenness all who live in this land—the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the people of Jerusalem.
And I will
dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the
LORD: I will not
pity, nor
spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.
I will
smash them against one another, fathers and sons alike, declares the
LORD. I will allow no mercy or
pity or
compassion to keep Me from destroying them.’”
Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.
Give glory to the
LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet
stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.
Give glory to the
LORD your God before He brings darkness, before your feet
stumble on the
dusky mountains. You wait for light, but He turns it into deep
gloom and thick darkness.
But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall
weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall
weep sore, and run down with tears, because the
LORD’S flock is carried away
captive.
But if you do not
listen, I will
weep in secret because of your pride. My eyes will overflow with tears, because the
LORD’s flock has been taken
captive.
This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the
LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in
falsehood.
This is your lot, the portion I have measured to you,” declares the
LORD, “because you have forgotten Me and trusted in
falsehood.
The word of the
LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the
dearth.
This is the word of the
LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the
drought:
O
LORD, though our
iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have
sinned against thee.
Although our
iniquities testify against us, O
LORD, act for the sake of Your name. Indeed, our rebellions are many; we have
sinned against You.
Why shouldest thou be as a man
astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O
LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.
Why are You like a man taken by surprise, like a
warrior powerless to save? Yet You are among us, O
LORD, and we are called by Your name. Do not
forsake us!
Thus saith the
LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to
wander, they have not
refrained their feet, therefore the
LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
This is what the
LORD says about this people: “Truly they love to
wander; they have not restrained their feet. So the
LORD does not accept them; He will now remember their guilt and call their sins to account.”
Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.
Then the LORD said to me, “Do not pray for the well-being of this people.
Then said I,
Ah,
Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you
assured peace in this place.
“
Ah,
Lord GOD!” I replied, “Look, the prophets are telling them, ‘You will not see the sword or suffer famine, but I will give you lasting peace in this place.’”
Then the
LORD said unto me, The prophets
prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they
prophesy unto you a false vision and
divination, and a thing of
nought, and the
deceit of their heart.
Therefore thus saith the
LORD concerning the prophets that
prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
Therefore this is what the
LORD says about the prophets who
prophesy in My name: I did not send them, yet they say, ‘No sword or famine will touch this land.’ By sword and famine these very prophets will meet their end!
We acknowledge, O
LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have
sinned against thee.
We acknowledge our wickedness, O
LORD, the guilt of our fathers; indeed, we have
sinned against You.
Are there any among the
vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O
LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
Can the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the
skies alone send showers? Is this not by You, O
LORD our God? So we put our hope in You, for You have done all these things.
Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.
Then the LORD said to me: “Even if Moses and Samuel should stand before Me, My heart would not go out to this people. Send them from My presence, and let them go.
And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee,
Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the
LORD; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.
If they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘Those destined for death, to death; those destined for the sword, to the sword; those destined for famine, to famine; and those destined for captivity, to captivity.’
And I will
appoint over them four kinds, saith the
LORD: the sword to
slay, and the dogs to
tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to
devour and destroy.
I will
appoint over them four kinds of destroyers, declares the
LORD: the sword to kill, the dogs to
drag away, and the birds of the air and beasts of the earth to
devour and destroy.
Thou hast
forsaken me, saith the
LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am
weary with
repenting.
You have
forsaken Me, declares the
LORD. You have turned your back. So I will stretch out My hand against you and I will destroy you; I am
weary of showing
compassion.
She that hath borne seven languisheth: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been
ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the
LORD.
The mother of seven will grow
faint; she will
breathe her last breath. Her sun will set while it is still day; she will be disgraced and
humiliated. And the rest I will put to the sword in the presence of their enemies,” declares the
LORD.
The
LORD said: “Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose; surely I will
intercede with your enemy in your time of trouble, in your time of distress.
O
LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and
revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy
longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered
rebuke.
You understand, O
LORD; remember me and attend to me.
Avenge me against my persecutors. In Your
patience, do not take me away. Know that I
endure reproach for Your honor.
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and
rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O
LORD God of hosts.
Your words were found, and I
ate them. Your words became my joy and my heart’s delight. For I bear Your name, O
LORD God of Hosts.
Therefore thus saith the
LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the
vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.
Therefore this is what the
LORD says: “If you return, I will restore you; you will stand in My presence. And if you speak words that are noble instead of worthless, you will be My
spokesman. It is they who must turn to you, but you must not turn to them.
And I will make thee unto this people a
fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the
LORD.
Then I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to save and deliver you, declares the LORD.
The word of the LORD came also unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
For thus saith the
LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that
begat them in this land;
For this is what the LORD says concerning the sons and daughters born in this place, and the mothers who bore them, and the fathers who fathered them in this land:
For thus saith the
LORD, Enter not into the house of
mourning, neither go to
lament nor
bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the
LORD, even lovingkindness and
mercies.
Indeed, this is what the
LORD says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal. Do not go to
mourn or show sympathy, for I have removed from this people My peace, My loving devotion, and My
compassion,” declares the
LORD.
For thus saith the
LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride.
For this is what the
LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to remove from this place, before your very eyes and in your days, the sounds of joy and
gladness, the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom.
