Either three years’ famine; or three
months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the
pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore
advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
between three years of famine, three

ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”

month, and he arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth
month, for the
gracious hand of his God was upon him.
Then we departed from the river of
Ahava on the
twelfth day of the first
month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and of such as lay in wait by the way.
On the
twelfth day of the first
month we set out from the

bandits along the way.
Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth

So within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem, and on the

month to examine the matter.
So the exiles did as proposed.

month they
launched the investigation,
And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.
and by the first day of the first month they had dealt with all the men who had married foreign women.
These are the words of
Nehemiah son of Hacaliah: In the
month of Chislev, in the
twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of
Susa,
And it came to pass in the
month Nisan, in the
twentieth year of
Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been
beforetime sad in his presence.
Now in the
month of
Nisan, in the
twentieth year of King
Artaxerxes, when wine was set before him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had never been
sad in his presence,
So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the
month Elul, in fifty and two days.

So the priests, and the Levites, and the
porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the

month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.
So the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, and temple servants, along with some of the people and the rest of the Israelites, settled in their own towns. And by the seventh month the Israelites had settled in their towns.
And
Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh
month.

month,

And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto
Ezra the
scribe, even to understand the words of the law.
On the second day of the
month, the heads of all the families, along with the priests and Levites, gathered around
Ezra the
scribe to study the words of the Law.
And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:
And they found written in the Law, which the LORD had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month.
Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.
On the twenty-fourth day of the same
month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing
sackcloth, with dust on their heads.
Now when every
maid’s turn was come to go in to king
Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve
months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six
months with oil of
myrrh, and six
months with sweet odours, and with other things for the
purifying of the women;)
In the twelve
months before her turn to go to King
Xerxes, the
harem regulation required each young woman to receive beauty treatments with oil of
myrrh for six
months, and then with perfumes and cosmetics for another six
months.
So
Esther was taken unto king
Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth
month, which is the
month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
She was taken to King
Xerxes in the royal palace in the tenth
month, the
month of
Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
In the first
month, that is, the
month Nisan, in the
twelfth year of king
Ahasuerus, they cast
Pur, that is, the lot, before
Haman from day to day, and from
month to
month, to the
twelfth month, that is, the
month Adar.
In the
twelfth year of King
Xerxes, in the first
month, the
month of
Nisan, the
Pur (that is, the lot) was cast before
Haman to determine a day and
month. And the lot fell on the
twelfth month, the
month of
Adar.
Then were the king’s
scribes called on the
thirteenth day of the first
month, and there was written according to all that
Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king
Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.
On the
thirteenth day of the first
month, the royal
scribes were summoned and the order was written exactly as
Haman commanded the royal satraps, the governors of each province, and the officials of each people, in the
script of each province and the language of every people. It was written in the name of King
Xerxes and sealed with the royal
signet ring.
And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the
thirteenth day of the
twelfth month, which is the
month Adar, and to take the
spoil of them for a prey.
And the letters were sent by couriers to each of the royal provinces with the order to destroy, kill, and
annihilate all the Jews—young and old, women and children—and to
plunder their possessions on a single day, the
thirteenth day of
Adar, the
twelfth month.
Then were the king’s
scribes called at that time in the third
month, that is, the
month Sivan, on the three and
twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that
Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the
deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto
Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.
At once the royal
scribes were summoned, and on the twenty-third day of the third
month (the
month of
Sivan), they recorded all of
Mordecai’s orders to the Jews and to the satraps, governors, and princes of the 127 provinces from India to
Cush—writing to each province in its own
script, to every people in their own language, and to the Jews in their own
script and language.
Now in the
twelfth month, that is, the
month Adar, on the
thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that
hated them;)
On the
thirteenth day of the
twelfth month, the
month of
Adar, the king’s command and edict were to be executed. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but their plan was overturned and the Jews overpowered those who
hated them.
For the Jews that were in
Shushan gathered themselves together on the
fourteenth day also of the
month Adar, and
slew three hundred men at
Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.
On the
fourteenth day of the
month of
Adar, the Jews in
Susa came together again and put to death three hundred men there, but they did not lay a hand on the
plunder.
This was done on the
thirteenth day of the
month of
Adar, and on the
fourteenth day they rested, making it a day of feasting and joy.
The Jews in
Susa, however, had assembled on the
thirteenth and the
fourteenth days of the
month. So they rested on the
fifteenth day, making it a day of feasting and joy.
Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the
fourteenth day of the
month Adar a day of
gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.
This is why the rural Jews, who live in the villages, observe the
fourteenth day of the
month of
Adar as a day of joy and feasting. It is a
holiday for sending gifts to one another.
As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the
month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from
mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.
as the days on which the Jews gained rest from their enemies and the
month in which their sorrow turned to joy and their
mourning into a
holiday. He wrote that these were to be days of feasting and joy, of sending gifts to one another and to the poor.
As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.
If only darkness had taken that night away! May it not appear among the days of the year; may it never be entered in any of the months.
So am I made to possess
months of vanity, and
wearisome nights are appointed to me.
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
Since his days are determined and the number of his months is with You, and since You have set limits that he cannot exceed,
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
For what does he care about his household after him, when the number of his months has run out?
Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
“How I long for the months gone by, for the days when God watched over me,
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
Can you count the
months they are
pregnant? Do you know the time they give birth?
Thou art
wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the
monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
You are
wearied by your many counselors; let them come forward now and save you— your astrologers who observe the stars, who
monthly predict your fate.
and through the days of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, until the fifth
month of the
eleventh year of
Zedekiah son of
Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.
A wild
ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not
weary themselves; in her
month they shall find her.
a wild
donkey at home in the wilderness,
sniffing the wind in the heat of her desire. Who can restrain her passion? All who seek her need not
weary themselves; in mating season they will find her.
And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth
month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of
Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
In the fifth
month of that same year, the fourth year, near the beginning of the reign of King
Zedekiah of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from
Gibeon, said to me in the house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people:
So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.
And in the seventh month of that very year, the prophet Hananiah died.
And it came to pass in the fifth year of
Jehoiakim the son of
Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth
month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.
Now in the ninth
month of the fifth year of
Jehoiakim son of
Josiah king of Judah, a fast before the LORD was proclaimed to all the people of Jerusalem and all who had come there from the cities of Judah.
Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth
month: and there was a fire on the
hearth burning before him.
Since it was the ninth month, the king was sitting in his winter quarters with a fire burning before him.

And in the
eleventh year of
Zedekiah, in the fourth
month, the ninth day of the
month, the city was broken up.
And on the ninth day of the fourth
month of
Zedekiah’s
eleventh year, the city was breached.
Now it came to pass in the seventh
month, that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam to
Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in
Mizpah.
In the seventh
month,
Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was a member of the royal family and one of the king’s chief officers, came with ten men to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam at
Mizpah, and they
ate a meal together there.
And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built forts against it round about.
So in the ninth year of
Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth
month,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his entire army. They
encamped outside the city and built a siege wall all around it.
And in the fourth
month, in the ninth day of the
month, the famine was
sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
By the ninth day of the fourth month, the famine in the city was so severe that the people of the land had no food.
Now in the fifth
month, in the tenth day of the
month, which was the
nineteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzar-adan, captain of the guard, which served the king of Babylon, into Jerusalem,
On the tenth day of the fifth
month, in the
nineteenth year of
Nebuchadnezzar’s reign over Babylon, Nebuzaradan captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, entered Jerusalem.
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the captivity of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the
twelfth month, in the five and
twentieth day of the
month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison,
On the twenty-fifth day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of
Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the first year of the reign of Evil-merodach king of Babylon, he
pardoned Jehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison.
Now it came to pass in the
thirtieth year, in the fourth
month, in the fifth day of the
month, as I was among the
captives by the river of
Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
In the
thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth
month, while I was among the exiles by the River Kebar, the heavens opened and I saw visions of God.
In the fifth day of the
month, which was the fifth year of king
Jehoiachin’s captivity,
On the fifth day of the
month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King
Jehoiachin—
And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I sat in mine house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord GOD fell there upon me.
In the sixth year, on the fifth day of the sixth month, I was sitting in my house, and the elders of Judah were sitting before me; and there the hand of the Lord GOD fell upon me.

month, the tenth day of the
month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to
enquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

eleventh month of the
twelfth year, on the first day of the
month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

month, in the
twelfth day of the
month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

twelfth day of the tenth
month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

twentieth year, in the first
month, in the first day of the
month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

And it came to pass in the
eleventh year, in the first
month, in the seventh day of the
month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

eleventh year, on the seventh day of the first
month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

eleventh year, in the third
month, in the first day of the
month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

eleventh year, on the first day of the third
month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

twelfth year, on the
fifteenth day of the
month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
And it came to pass in the
twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth
month, in the fifth day of the
month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is
smitten.
In the
twelfth year of our exile, on the fifth day of the tenth
month, a
fugitive from Jerusalem came to me and reported, “The city has been taken!”
And seven
months shall the house of Israel be
burying of them, that they may
cleanse the land.
For seven
months the house of Israel will be
burying them in order to
cleanse the land.
And they shall
sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to
bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to
cleanse it: after the end of seven
months shall they search.
And men will be employed to continually pass through the land to
cleanse it by
burying the invaders who remain on the ground. At the end of the seven
months they will begin their search.
In the five and
twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the
month, in the
fourteenth year after that the city was
smitten, in the
selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither.
In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the
month—in the
fourteenth year after Jerusalem had been struck down—on that very day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He took me there.
