nation, and I will
bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

nation, and I will
bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

Neither shall thy name any more be called
Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many
nations have I made thee.
No longer will you be called
Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many
nations.

bless her, and give thee a son also of her:

bless her, and she shall be a mother of
nations; kings of people shall be of her.

bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will
bless her, and she will be the mother of
nations; kings of peoples will descend from her.”
And as for
Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he
beget, and I will make him a great
nation.

Ishmael, I have heard you, and I will surely
bless him; I will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He will become the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great
nation.

slay also a righteous
nation?

Abimelech had not gone near her, so he replied, “Lord, would You destroy a
nation even though it is innocent?
And also of the son of the
bondwoman will I make a
nation, because he is thy seed.
But I will also make a nation of the slave woman’s son, because he is your offspring.”

lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great
nation.

The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that
sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
The LORD, the God of heaven, who brought me from my father’s house and my native land, who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land’—He will send His angel before you so that you can take a wife for my son from there.

nations are in thy
womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy
bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

nations are in your
womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”

Let people serve thee, and
nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee:
cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.
May peoples serve you and
nations bow down to you. May you be the master of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who
curse you be
cursed, and those who
bless you be blessed.”
I am the God of
Bethel, where thou anointedst the
pillar, and where thou vowedst a
vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.
I am the God of
Bethel, where you
anointed the
pillar and made a solemn
vow to Me. Now get up and leave this land at once, and return to your
native land.’”
And God said unto him, I am God
Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a
nation and a company of
nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A
nation—even a company of
nations—shall come from you, and kings shall descend from you.

buy corn; because that the famine was so
sore in all lands.

nation came to Joseph in Egypt to
buy grain, because the famine was severe over all the earth.
And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:

And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.
But his father refused. “I know, my son, I know!” he said. “He too shall become a people, and he too shall be great; nevertheless, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations.”
The
sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a
lawgiver from between his feet, until
Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
The
scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the staff from between his feet, until
Shiloh comes and the allegiance of the
nations is his.
So there was
hail, and fire mingled with the
hail, very
grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a
nation.
The
hail fell and the
lightning continued
flashing through it. The
hail was so severe that nothing like it had ever been seen in all the land of Egypt from the time it became a
nation.
Seven days shall there be no
leaven found in your houses: for
whosoever eateth that which is
leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.
For seven days there must be no
leaven found in your houses. If
anyone eats something
leavened, that person, whether a foreigner or
native of the land, must be cut off from the congregation of Israel.
And when a stranger shall
sojourn with thee, and will keep the
passover to the LORD, let all his males be
circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no
uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
One law shall be to him that is
homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.
The same law shall apply to both the native and the foreigner who resides among you.”
The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar
treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
Now if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you will be My
treasured possession out of all the
nations—for the whole earth is Mine.
And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to speak to the Israelites.”
If she please not her master, who hath
betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange
nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt
deceitfully with her.
If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who had designated her for himself, he must allow her to be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, since he has broken faith with her.
I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.
I will send My terror
ahead of you and throw into confusion every
nation you
encounter. I will make all your enemies turn and run.
Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may
consume them: and I will make of thee a great
nation.
Now leave Me alone, so that My anger may burn against them and
consume them. Then I will make you into a great
nation.”
Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight,
shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this
nation is thy people.
Now if indeed I have found favor in Your sight, please let me know Your ways, that I may know You and find favor in Your sight. Remember that this nation is Your people.”
And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.
And the LORD said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will perform wonders that have never been done in any
nation in all the world. All the people among whom you live will see the LORD’s work, for it is an
awesome thing that I am doing with you.
For I will cast out the
nations before thee, and
enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God
thrice in the year.
For I will drive out the
nations before you and
enlarge your borders, and no one will
covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the LORD your God.
And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall
afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:
This is to be a permanent statute for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month, you shall humble
yourselves and not do any work—whether the
native or the foreigner who resides among you—
And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was
torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes, and
bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.
And any person, whether
native or foreigner, who eats anything found dead or
mauled by wild beasts must wash his clothes and
bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening; then he will be clean.
Defile not ye
yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the
nations are
defiled which I cast out before you:
Do not
defile yourselves by any of these practices, for by all these things the
nations I am driving out before you have
defiled themselves.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
But you are to keep My statutes and ordinances, and you must not commit any of these abominations—neither your native-born nor the foreigner who lives among you.
That the land
spue not you out also, when ye
defile it, as it spued out the
nations that were before you.
So if you
defile the land, it will
vomit you out as it
spewed out the
nations before you.
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as
thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
You must treat the foreigner living among you as
native-born and love him as
yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.
And ye shall not walk in the manners of the
nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I
abhorred them.
You must not follow the statutes of the
nations I am driving out before you. Because they did all these things, I
abhorred them.
And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.
You are to be holy to Me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be My own.
Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:
You are to dwell in booths for seven days. All the native-born of Israel must dwell in booths,
And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.
Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD must surely be put to death; the whole assembly must surely stone him, whether he is a foreign resident or
native; if he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death.
Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
You are to have the same standard of law for the foreign resident and the native; for I am the LORD your God.’”
Both thy
bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye
buy bondmen and bondmaids.
Your menservants and maidservants shall come from the nations around you, from whom you may purchase them.
And I will
scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be
desolate, and your cities waste.
But I will
scatter you among the
nations and will draw out a sword after you as your land becomes
desolate and your cities are laid waste.
And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.
You will perish among the
nations, and the land of your enemies will
consume you.
But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.
But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.”
And if a stranger shall
sojourn among you, and will keep the
passover unto the LORD; according to the
ordinance of the
passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one
ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.
If a foreigner dwelling among you wants to observe the
Passover to the LORD, he is to do so according to the
Passover statute and its ordinances. You are to apply the same statute to both the foreigner and the
native of the land.’”
I will strike them with a plague and destroy them—and I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they are.”
Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
If You kill this people as one man, the nations who have heard of Your fame will say,
All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
Everyone who is
native-born shall prepare these things in this way when he presents an offering made by fire as a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
You shall have the same law for the one who acts in error, whether he is a
native-born
Israelite or a foreigner residing among you.
But the soul that doeth ought
presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
But the person who sins defiantly, whether a native or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD. That person shall be cut off from among his people.
If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the
visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.
If these men die a natural death, or if they suffer the fate of all men, then the LORD has not sent me.
And
whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
Anyone in the open field who touches someone who has been killed by the sword or has died of
natural causes, or
anyone who touches a human bone or a grave, will be unclean for seven days.
For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
For I see them from
atop the rocky cliffs, and I watch them from the hills. Behold, a people dwelling apart, not
reckoning themselves among the
nations.
God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an
unicorn: he shall eat up the
nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and
pierce them through with his arrows.
God brought him out of Egypt with strength like a wild ox, to
devour hostile
nations and
crush their bones, to
pierce them with arrows.
And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.
Then
Balaam saw Amalek and lifted up an
oracle, saying: “Amalek was first among the
nations, but his end is destruction.”
This day will I begin to put the
dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the
nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall
tremble, and be in
anguish because of thee.
This very day I will begin to put the
dread and fear of you upon all the
nations under heaven. They will hear the reports of you and
tremble in
anguish because of you.”
Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding in the sight of the peoples, who will hear of all these statutes and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”
For what
nation is there so great, who hath God so
nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
For what nation is great enough to have a god as near to them as the LORD our God is to us whenever we call on Him?
And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
And what
nation is great enough to have righteous statutes and ordinances like this entire law I set before you
today?
And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
When you look to the heavens and see the sun and moon and stars—all the host of heaven—do not be
enticed to bow down and worship what the LORD your God has
apportioned to all the
nations under heaven.
And the LORD shall
scatter you among the
nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen,
whither the LORD shall lead you.
Then the LORD will
scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will
survive among the
nations to which the LORD will drive you.
Or hath God
assayed to go and take him a
nation from the midst of another
nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
Or has any god tried to take as his own a nation out of another nation—by trials, signs, wonders, and war, by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors—as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?
To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
to drive out before you nations greater and mightier than you, and to bring you into their land and give it to you for your inheritance, as it is this day.
When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land
whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many
nations before thee, the
Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the
Amorites, and the
Canaanites, and the
Perizzites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven
nations greater and mightier than thou;
When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, and He drives out before you many
nations—the
Hittites, Girgashites,
Amorites,
Canaanites,
Perizzites,
Hivites, and Jebusites, seven
nations larger and stronger than you—
If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
You may say in your heart, “These nations are greater than we are; how can we drive them out?”
And the LORD thy God will put out those
nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not
consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.
The LORD your God will drive out these
nations before you little by little. You will not be enabled to
eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals would multiply around you.
As the
nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be
obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.
Like the nations that the LORD has destroyed before you, so you will perish if you do not obey the LORD your God.
Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess
nations greater and mightier than
thyself, cities great and
fenced up to heaven,
Hear, O Israel:
Today you are about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess
nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities fortified to the heavens.
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these
nations the LORD
doth drive them out from before thee.
When the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say in your heart, “Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land.” Rather, the LORD is driving out these nations before you because of their wickedness.
Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart,
dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these
nations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
It is not because of your righteousness or uprightness of heart that you are going in to possess their land, but it is because of their wickedness that the LORD your God is driving out these
nations before you, to keep the promise He
swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and
blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a
nation mightier and greater than they.
Leave Me alone, so that I may destroy them and
blot out their name from under heaven. Then I will make you into a
nation mightier and greater than they are.”
Then will the LORD drive out all these
nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater
nations and mightier than
yourselves.
then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.
Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:
Destroy completely all the places where the
nations you are dispossessing have served their gods—
atop the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree.
When the LORD thy God shall cut off the
nations from before thee,
whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;
When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations you are entering to dispossess, and you drive them out and live in their land,
Take
heed to
thyself that thou be not
snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou
enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these
nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
for you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.
For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt
lend unto many
nations, but thou shalt not
borrow; and thou shalt reign over many
nations, but they shall not reign over thee.
When the LORD your God blesses you as He has promised, you will
lend to many
nations but
borrow from none; you will rule over many
nations but be ruled by none.
When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me;
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,”
When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not
imitate the
detestable ways of the
nations there.
For all that do these things are an
abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out from before thee.
For
whoever does these things is
detestable to the LORD. And because of these
detestable things, the LORD your God is driving out the
nations before you.
For these
nations, which thou shalt possess,
hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
Though these
nations, which you will dispossess,
listen to conjurers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.
When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
When the LORD your God has cut off the nations whose land He is giving you, and when you have driven them out and settled in their cities and houses,
Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
This is how you are to treat all the cities that are far away from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.
But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God
doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
However, in the cities of the nations that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, you must not leave alive anything that breathes.
And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A
Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and
sojourned there with a few, and became there a
nation, great, mighty, and
populous:
and you are to declare before the LORD your God, “My father was a wandering
Aramean, and he went down to Egypt few in number and lived there and became a great
nation, mighty and numerous.
And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.
that He will set you high in praise and name and honor above all the nations He has made, and that you will be a holy people to the LORD your God, as He has promised.
