And the rest of the acts of
Joash, and all that he did, and his might
wherewith he fought against
Amaziah king of Judah, are they
not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
As for the rest of the acts of Jehoash, along with all his accomplishments and his might, including his war against
Amaziah king of Judah, are they
not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
And the LORD was
gracious unto them, and had
compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would
not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
But the LORD was
gracious to Israel and had
compassion on them, and He turned toward them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And to this day, the LORD has been unwilling to destroy them or cast them from His presence.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet
not like David his father: he did according to all things as
Joash his father did.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but
not as his father David had done. He did everything as his father
Joash had done.
Howbeit the high places were
not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away, and the people continued sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.
But the children of the murderers he
slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall
not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
Yet he did not put the sons of the murderers to death, but acted according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Fathers must not be put to death for their children, and children must not be put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.”
But
Amaziah would
not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and
Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
But
Amaziah would
not listen, and Jehoash king of Israel advanced. He and King
Amaziah of Judah faced each other at Beth-shemesh in Judah.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed
not from all the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and did
not turn away from all the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
For the LORD saw the
affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was
not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
For the LORD saw that the
affliction of the Israelites, both slave and free, was very bitter. There was no one to help Israel,
And the LORD said
not that he would
blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of
Jeroboam the son of
Joash.
and since the LORD had said that He would
not blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, He saved them by the hand of
Jeroboam son of Jehoash.
Now the rest of the acts of
Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he
warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and
Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they
not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Hamath for Israel from Judah, are they

Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there.

Azariah, and all that he did, are they

Then Menahem
smote Tiphsah, and all that were therein, and the coasts thereof from Tirzah: because they opened
not to him, therefore he
smote it; and all the women therein that were with child he
ripped up.
At that time Menahem, starting from Tirzah, attacked Tiphsah and
everyone in its vicinity, because they would
not open their gates. So he attacked Tiphsah and
ripped open all the
pregnant women.
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed
not all his days from the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and throughout his reign he did
not turn away from the sins that
Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.
And Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and stayed not there in the land.
Menahem exacted this money from each of the wealthy men of Israel—fifty shekels of silver from each man—to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria withdrew and did not remain in the land.

Howbeit the high places were
not removed: the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the high places. He built the higher gate of the house of the LORD.
Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away; the people continued sacrificing and burning incense there. Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD.
Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Twenty years old was
Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did
not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his father.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did
not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God.
Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to war: and they besieged
Ahaz, but could
not overcome him.
Then Rezin king of
Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to
wage war against Jerusalem. They besieged
Ahaz but could
not overcome him.
Now the rest of the acts of
Ahaz which he did, are they
not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Ahaz, along with his accomplishments, are they

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not like the kings of Israel who preceded him.
And the king of Assyria found
conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea had
conspired to send envoys to King So of Egypt, and that he had
not paid tribute to the king of Assyria as in previous years. Therefore the king of Assyria arrested Hoshea and put him in prison.
And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were
not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the
watchmen to the
fenced city.
The Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that were
not right. From
watchtower to fortified city, they built high places in all their cities.
For they served idols,
whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall
not do this thing.
They served idols, although the LORD had told them, “You shall not do this thing.”
Notwithstanding they would
not hear, but
hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did
not believe in the LORD their God.
But they would
not listen, and they
stiffened their necks like their fathers, who did
not believe the LORD their God.
And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his
testimonies which he
testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should
not do like them.
They rejected His statutes and the covenant He had made with their fathers, as well as the decrees He had given them. They pursued worthless idols and themselves became worthless, going after the surrounding nations that the LORD had commanded them
not to
imitate.
Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.
and even Judah did not keep the commandments of the LORD their God, but lived according to the customs Israel had introduced.
For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of
Jeroboam which he did; they departed
not from them;
The Israelites
persisted in all the sins that
Jeroboam had committed and did
not turn away from them.
And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared
not the LORD: therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which
slew some of them.
Now when the settlers first lived there, they did not worship the LORD, so He sent lions among them, which killed some of them.
Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know
not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they
slay them, because they know
not the manner of the God of the land.
So they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The peoples that you have removed and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the requirements of the God of the land. Because of this, He has sent lions among them, which are indeed killing them off.”
Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;
To this day they are still practicing their former customs. None of them worship the LORD or observe the statutes, ordinances, laws, and commandments that the LORD gave the descendants of Jacob, whom He named Israel.
With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them saying, Ye shall
not fear other gods, nor bow
yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:
For the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites and commanded them, “Do not worship other gods or bow down to them; do not serve them or sacrifice to them.
And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for
evermore; and ye shall
not fear other gods.
And you must always be careful to observe the statutes, ordinances, laws, and commandments He wrote for you. Do not worship other gods.
And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall
not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.
Do
not forget the covenant I have made with you. Do
not worship other gods,
For he
clave to the LORD, and departed
not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.
He remained faithful to the LORD and did not turn from following Him; he kept the commandments that the LORD had given Moses.
And the LORD was with him; and he
prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him
not.
And the LORD was with
Hezekiah, and he
prospered wherever he went. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and refused to serve him.
Because they obeyed
not the voice of the LORD their God, but
transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would
not hear them, nor do them.
This happened because they did
not listen to the voice of the LORD their God, but
violated His covenant—all that Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded—and would neither
listen nor obey.
But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: is
not that he, whose high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He
not the One whose high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem: ‘You must worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?
Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto
Rab-shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the
Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk
not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah, along with Shebnah and Joah, said to the
Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in
Aramaic, since we understand it. Do
not speak with us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall.”
But
Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he
not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you.
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these words only to you and your master, and
not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
Thus saith the king, Let
not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall
not be able to deliver you out of his hand:
This is what the king says: Do
not let
Hezekiah deceive you; he cannot deliver you from my hand.
Neither let
Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall
not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Do
not let
Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, ‘The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will
not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’
Hearken not to
Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his
cistern:
Do
not listen to
Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and drink water from his own
cistern,
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and
not die: and
hearken not unto
Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.
until I come and take you away to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey—so that you may live and
not die. But do
not listen to
Hezekiah, for he misleads you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’
But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
But the people remained silent and did
not answer a word, for
Hezekiah had commanded, “Do
not answer him.”
And they said unto him, Thus saith
Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of
rebuke, and
blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is
not strength to bring forth.
to tell him, “This is what
Hezekiah says:
Today is a day of distress,
rebuke, and disgrace; for children have come to the point of birth, but there is no strength to deliver them.
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be
not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed me.
who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do
not be afraid of the words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed Me.
Thus shall ye speak to
Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let
not thy God in whom thou trustest
deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall
not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
“Give this message to
Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do
not let your God, in whom you trust,
deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will
not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
They have cast their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods, but only wood and stone—the work of human hands.
Hast thou
not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste
fenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you
not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I
planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall
not come into this city, nor shoot an
arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
So this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: ‘He will
not enter this city or shoot an
arrow into it. He will
not come before it with a shield or build up a siege
ramp against it.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
He will go back the way he came, and he will not enter this city,’ declares the LORD.
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and
not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will
not recover.’”
And
Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees:
nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
“It is easy for the shadow to
lengthen ten steps,” answered
Hezekiah, “but
not for it to go back ten steps.”
And
Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious
ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was
nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that
Hezekiah shewed them
not.
And
Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his
treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his
armory—all that was found in his storehouses. There was
nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that
Hezekiah did
not show them.
And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And
Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is
nothing among my treasures that I have
not shewed them.
“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked. “They have seen everything in my palace,” answered
Hezekiah. “There is
nothing among my treasures that I did
not show them.”
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
Then said
Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it
not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
But
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Will there
not at least be peace and security in my lifetime?”
And the rest of the acts of
Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a
pool, and a
conduit, and brought water into the city, are they
not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Hezekiah, along with all his might and how he constructed the
pool and the
tunnel to bring water into the city, are they
not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
But they
hearkened not: and
Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel.
But the people did
not listen and
Manasseh led them
astray, so that they did greater evil than the nations that the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.
Now the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin that he
sinned, are they
not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, along with all his accomplishments and the sin that he committed, are they
not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
And he
forsook the LORD God of his fathers, and walked
not in the way of the LORD.
He abandoned the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD.
Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of Amon, along with his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Howbeit there was no
reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.
But they need
not account for the money put into their hands, since they work with
integrity.”
Go ye,
enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is
kindled against us, because our fathers have
not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me, for the people, and for all Judah concerning the words in this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that burns against us because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book by doing all that is written about us.”
Because they have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might
provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be
kindled against this place, and shall
not be
quenched.
because they have
forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might
provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. My wrath will be
kindled against this place and will
not be
quenched.’
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will
not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
Nevertheless the priests of the high places came
not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the
unleavened bread among their brethren.
Although the priests of the high places did
not come up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, they
ate unleavened bread with their fellow priests.
And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.
“Let him rest,” said
Josiah. “Do
not let
anyone disturb his bones.” So they left his bones undisturbed, along with those of the prophet who had come from Samaria.
Surely there was
not holden such a
passover from the days of the judges that judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;
No such
Passover had been observed from the days of the judges who had governed Israel through all the days of the kings of Israel and Judah.
Notwithstanding the LORD turned
not from the fierceness of his great wrath,
wherewith his anger was
kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that
Manasseh had
provoked him
withal.
Nevertheless, the LORD did
not turn away from the
fury of His burning anger, which was
kindled against Judah because of all that
Manasseh had done to
provoke Him to anger.
Now the rest of the acts of
Josiah, and all that he did, are they
not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Josiah, along with all his accomplishments, are they

And Pharaoh-nechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, that he might
not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
And Pharaoh Neco imprisoned
Jehoahaz at Riblah in the land of
Hamath so that he could
not reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed on Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would
not pardon.
and also for the innocent blood he had shed. For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD was unwilling to
forgive.
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they
not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, along with all his accomplishments, are they
not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
And the king of Egypt came
not again any more out of his land: for the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that
pertained to the king of Egypt.
Now the king of Egypt did
not march out of his land again, because the king of Babylon had taken all his territory, from the
Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates River.
And Gedaliah
sware to them, and to their men, and said unto them, Fear
not to be the servants of the Chaldees: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon; and it shall be well with you.
And Gedaliah took an oath before them and their men,
assuring them, “Do
not be afraid of the servants of the Chaldeans. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you.”
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest
bless me indeed, and
enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may
not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
And Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If only You would
bless me and
enlarge my territory! May Your hand be with me and keep me from
harm, so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.
And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brethren had not many children, neither did all their family multiply, like to the children of Judah.
Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers did not have many children, so their whole clan did not become as numerous as the sons of Judah.
And these written by name came in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah, and
smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.
These who were
noted by name came in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah. They attacked the Hamites and Meunites there in their dwellings,
devoting them to destruction even to this day. Then they settled in their place, because there was pasture for their flocks.
Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through
therewith; lest these
uncircumcised come and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would
not; for he was
sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Then Saul said to his
armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these
uncircumcised men will come and
torture me!” But his
armor-bearer was
terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
So Saul died for his
transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept
not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to
enquire of it;
So Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance,
And enquired
not of the LORD: therefore he
slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of
Jesse.
and he failed to inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of
Jesse.
And the inhabitants of
Jebus said to David, Thou shalt
not come
hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of
Zion, which is the city of David.
The people of
Jebus said to David, “You will never get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of
Zion (that is, the City of David).
And the three
brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of
Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would
not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD,
So the Three broke through the
Philistine camp, drew water from the well at the gate of
Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD,
And said, My God
forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in
jeopardy? for with the
jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would
not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.
saying, “Far be it from me, my God, to do this! How can I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?” Because they had brought it at the risk of their lives, David refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty men.
Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain:
howbeit he attained
not to the first three.
He was
doubly honored above the Three, and he became their commander, even though he was
not included among the Three.
Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.
He was most honored among the Thirty, but he did not become one of the Three. And David appointed him over his guard.
And there fell some of
Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them
not: for the lords of the Philistines upon
advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul to the
jeopardy of our heads.
Some from
Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (They did
not help the Philistines because the
Philistine rulers consulted and sent David away, saying, “It will cost us our heads if he defects to his master Saul.”)
Of
Zebulun, such as went forth to battle,
expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: they were
not of double heart.
From
Zebulun: 50,000 fit for service, trained for battle with all kinds of weapons of war, who with one purpose were devoted to David.
And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we enquired not at it in the days of Saul.
Then let us bring back the ark of our God, for we did not inquire of Him in the days of Saul.”
