So David brought
not the ark home to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-
edom the Gittite.
So he did
not move the ark with him to the City of David; instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-
edom the Gittite.
Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go
not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the
mulberry trees.
So David again inquired of God, who answered him, “Do
not march up after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the
balsam trees.
For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.
It was because you Levites were
not with us the first time that the LORD our God
burst forth in anger against us. For we did
not consult Him about the proper order.”
Saying, Touch
not mine
anointed, and do my prophets no
harm.
Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.
tremble before Him, all the earth. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:
“Go and tell My servant David that this is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build Me a house in which to dwell.
For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved from tent to tent and dwelling to dwelling.
Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye
not built me an house of cedars?
In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders I appointed to
shepherd My people, ‘Why
haven’t you built Me a house of
cedar?’
I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
I will be his Father, and he will be My son. And I will never remove My loving devotion from him as I removed it from your predecessor.
But the princes of the children of
Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David
doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are
not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to
spy out the land?
the princes of the
Ammonites said to Hanun, “Just because David has sent you comforters, do you really believe he is showing respect for your father? Have
not his servants come to you to
explore the land,
spy it out, and overthrow it?”
And
Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they
not all my lord’s servants? why then
doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of
trespass to Israel?
But
Joab replied, “May the LORD multiply His troops a hundred times over. My lord the king, are they
not all servants of my lord? Why does my lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
But Levi and Benjamin counted he
not among them: for the king’s word was
abominable to
Joab.
But
Joab did
not include Levi and Benjamin in the count, because the king’s command was
detestable to him.
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his
mercies: but let me
not fall into the hand of man.
David answered
Gad, “I am deeply distressed. Please, let me fall into the hand of the LORD, for His
mercies are very great; but do
not let me fall into the hands of men.”
And David said unto God, Is it
not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but
not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it
not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand fall upon me and my father’s house, but do
not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
And king David said to Ornan,
Nay; but I will
verily buy it for the full price: for I will
not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.
“No,” replied King David, “I
insist on paying the full price, for I will
not take for the LORD what belongs to you, nor will I offer burnt offerings that cost me
nothing.”
But David could
not go before it to
enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
but David could not go before it to inquire of God, because he was afraid of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
but this word of the LORD came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and
waged great wars. You are
not to build a house for My Name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.
Then shalt thou
prosper, if thou takest
heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage;
dread not, nor be dismayed.
Then you will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and
courageous. Do
not be afraid or discouraged.
Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people.
“Is not the LORD your God with you, and has He not granted you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before the LORD and His people.
And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had
not many sons; therefore they were in one
reckoning, according to their father’s house.
Jahath was the first and Zizah was the second; but Jeush and Beriah did
not have many sons, so they were counted as one family and received a single
assignment.
And the sons of
Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And
Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
The descendants of
Eliezer: Rehabiah was the first.
Eliezer did
not have any other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous.
Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was
not the
firstborn, yet his father made him the chief;)
Hosah the Merarite also had sons: Shimri the first (although he was
not the
firstborn, his father had appointed him as the first),
But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.
David did not count the men aged twenty or under, because the LORD had said that He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky.
Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished
not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did
not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was
not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.
But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.
but God said to me, ‘You are
not to build a house for My Name, because you are a man of war who has
spilled blood.’
And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear
not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will
not fail thee, nor
forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and
courageous, and do it. Do
not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will neither fail you nor
forsake you before all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.
Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is
not for man, but for the LORD God.
Then King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great because this palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
And the LORD
magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had
not been on any king before him in Israel.
The LORD highly
exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal majesty such as had
not been bestowed on any king in Israel before him.
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast
not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for
thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
God said to Solomon, “Since this was in your heart instead of requesting riches or wealth or glory for
yourself or death for your enemies—and since you have
not even requested long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge to
govern My people over whom I have made you king—
Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out.
Solomon made all these articles in such great abundance that the weight of the bronze could not be determined.
Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
And they drew out the
staves of the ark, that the ends of the
staves were seen from the ark before the
oracle; but they were
not seen without. And there it is unto this day.
The poles of the ark extended far enough that their ends were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
There was
nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
There was
nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.
And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were
sanctified, and did
not then wait by course:
Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place,
So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
‘Since the day I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have
not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be there, nor have I chosen
anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall
not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth
not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away
captives unto a land far off or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does
not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to a land far or near,
O LORD God, turn
not away the face of thine
anointed: remember the
mercies of David thy servant.
O LORD God, do
not reject Your
anointed one. Remember Your loving devotion to Your servant David.”
And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.
The priests were unable to enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled it.
Moreover Solomon
hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the
brasen altar which Solomon had made was
not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar he had made could
not contain all these offerings.
Then will I
stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall
not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.’
But of their children, who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel consumed not, them did Solomon make to pay tribute until this day.
their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to destroy—Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.
But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no servants for his work; but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and captains of his
chariots and
horsemen.
But Solomon did
not consign any of the Israelites to slave labor, because they were his men of war, his officers and captains, and the commanders of his
chariots and cavalry.
And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall
not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy,
whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.
Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her. For he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”
And they departed not from the commandment of the king unto the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures.
They did
not turn aside from the king’s command regarding the priests or the Levites or any matter concerning the
treasuries.
And Solomon told her all her questions: and there was
nothing hid from Solomon which he told her
not.
And Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too difficult for him to explain.
Howbeit I believed
not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was
not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.
But I did not believe the reports until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not half of the greatness of your wisdom was told to me. You have far exceeded the report I heard.
Beside that which
chapmen and merchants brought. And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.
not including the revenue from the merchants and traders. And all the Arabian kings and governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.
And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps. There was not the like made in any kingdom.
Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like this had ever been made for any kingdom.
And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was
not any thing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
All King Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was accounted as
nothing in the days of Solomon.
Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they
not written in the book of
Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of
Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of
Iddo the
seer against
Jeroboam the son of Nebat?
As for the rest of the acts of Solomon, from beginning to end, are they
not written in the Records of
Nathan the Prophet, in the Prophecy of
Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the Visions of
Iddo the
Seer concerning
Jeroboam son of Nebat?
So the king
hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the king did
not listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the LORD might
fulfill the word that He had spoken through
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam son of Nebat.
And when all Israel saw that the king would
not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of
Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
When all Israel saw that the king had refused to
listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the son of
Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So all the Israelites went home,
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall
not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against
Jeroboam.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are
not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the words of the LORD and turned back from going against
Jeroboam.
And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will
not destroy them, but I will grant them some
deliverance; and my wrath shall
not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of
Shishak.
When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; I will
not destroy them, but will soon grant them
deliverance. My wrath will
not be poured out on Jerusalem through
Shishak.
And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
Because
Rehoboam humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned away from him, and He did
not destroy him completely. Indeed, conditions were good in Judah.
And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.
And
Rehoboam did evil because he did
not set his heart to seek the LORD.
Now the acts of
Rehoboam, from first to last, are they
not written in the records of Shemaiah the Prophet and of
Iddo the
Seer concerning the
genealogies? There was war between
Rehoboam and
Jeroboam throughout their days.
Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
Do you
not know that the LORD, the God of Israel, has given the
kingship of Israel to David and his descendants
forever by a covenant of salt?
And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of
Belial, and have strengthened themselves against
Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when
Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could
not withstand them.
Then worthless and wicked men gathered around him to resist
Rehoboam son of Solomon when he was young, inexperienced, and unable to resist them.
Have ye
not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you
not drive out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you
not make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are
not gods.
But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have
not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
But as for us, the LORD is our God. We have
not forsaken Him; the priests who minister to the LORD are sons of Aaron, and the Levites attend to their duties.
And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding
trumpets to cry
alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye
not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall
not prosper.
Now behold, God Himself is with us as our head, and His priests with their
trumpets sound the battle call against you. O children of Israel, do
not fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers, for you will
not succeed.”
Neither did
Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of
Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and he died.
Jeroboam did
not again recover his power during the days of
Abijah, and the LORD struck him down and he died.
And
Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is
nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let
not man prevail against thee.
Then
Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we
rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do
not let a mere
mortal prevail against You.”
And
Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto
Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could
not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much
spoil.
Then
Asa and his army pursued them as far as
Gerar. The Cushites fell and could
not recover, for they were
crushed before the LORD and His army. So the people of Judah carried off a great amount of
plunder Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
But as for you, be strong; do not be discouraged, for your work will be rewarded.”
That
whosoever would
not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
And
whoever would
not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, would be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.
But the high places were
not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of
Asa was perfect all his days.
The high places were
not removed from Israel, but
Asa’s heart was fully devoted all his days.
And at that time Hanani the
seer came to
Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast
relied on the king of Syria, and
not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.
At that time Hanani the
seer came to King
Asa of Judah and told him, “Because you have
relied on the king of
Aram and
not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of
Aram has escaped from your hand.
Were
not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many
chariots and
horsemen? yet, because thou
didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.
Were
not the Cushites and Libyans a vast army with many
chariots and
horsemen? Yet because you
relied on the LORD, He delivered them into your hand.
And
Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought
not to the LORD, but to the physicians.
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign,
Asa became diseased in his feet, and his
malady became increasingly severe. Yet even in his illness he did
not seek the LORD, but only the physicians.
And the LORD was with
Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought
not unto
Baalim;
Now the LORD was with
Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did
not seek out the Baals,
But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against
Jehoshaphat.
And the
dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did
not make war against
Jehoshaphat.
But
Jehoshaphat said, Is there
not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might
enquire of him?
But
Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there
not still a prophet of the LORD here of whom we can inquire?”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may
enquire of the LORD: but I
hate him; for he never
prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And
Jehoshaphat said, Let
not the king say so.
The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man who can ask the LORD, but I
hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should
not say that!”
Jehoshaphat replied.
And the king said to him, How many times shall I
adjure thee that thou say
nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?
But the king said to him, “How many times must I make you
swear not to tell me anything but the truth in the name of the LORD?”
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, Did I
not tell thee that he would
not prophesy good unto me, but evil?
Then the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “Did I
not tell you that he never prophesies good for me, but only bad?”
And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in peace, then hath
not the LORD spoken by me. And he said,
Hearken, all ye people.
But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has
not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Take
heed, all you people!”
Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the
chariots that were with him, saying, Fight ye
not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.
Now the king of
Aram had ordered his
chariot commanders, “Do
not fight with
anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the
chariots perceived that it was
not the king of Israel, they turned back again from pursuing him.
And when the
chariot commanders saw that he was
not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.
And said to the judges, Take
heed what ye do: for ye judge
not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.
Then he said to the judges, “Consider carefully what you do, for you are not judging for man, but for the LORD, who is with you when you render judgment.
And what cause
soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, ye shall even
warn them that they
trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall
not trespass.
For every dispute that comes before you from your brothers who dwell in their cities—whether it regards
bloodshed or some other
violation of law, commandments, statutes, or ordinances—you are to
warn them, so that they will
not incur guilt before the LORD and wrath will
not come upon you and your brothers. Do this, and you will
not incur guilt.
And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of
Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal
courageously, and the LORD shall be with the good.
Note that Amariah, the chief priest, will be over you in all that pertains to the LORD, and Zebadiah son of
Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all that pertains to the king. And the Levites will serve as officers before you. Act
resolutely; may the LORD be with the upright!”
And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art
not thou God in heaven? and rulest
not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there
not power and might, so that none is able to
withstand thee?
and said, “O LORD, God of our fathers, are You not the God who is in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can stand against You.
Art
not thou our God, who
didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
Our God, did You
not drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it
forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend?
And now, behold, the children of
Ammon and Moab and mount
Seir, whom thou wouldest
not let Israel
invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them
not;
And now, here are the men of
Ammon, Moab, and Mount
Seir, whom You did
not let Israel
invade when they came out of the land of Egypt; but Israel turned away from them and did
not destroy them.
O our God,
wilt thou
not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
Our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this vast army that comes against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
And he said,
Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king
Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be
not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is
not yours, but God’s.
And he said, “
Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem!
Listen, King

tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”

And there came a writing to him from

Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of
Asa king of Judah,
Then a letter came to Jehoram from
Elijah the prophet, which stated: “This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘You have

Asa king of Judah,
