Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who
slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no
compassion upon young man or
maiden,
old man, or him that
stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.
So He brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who put their young men to the sword in the sanctuary,
sparing neither young men nor young women, neither elderly nor infirm. God gave them all into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar,
Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began

shouted joyfully.
That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a
rebellious city, and
hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved
sedition within the same of
old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

verify that the city is a
rebellious city,
harmful to kings and provinces,
inciting sedition from ancient times. That is why this city was destroyed.
And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of
old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and
sedition have been made therein.
I issued a decree, and a search was conducted. It was discovered that this city has revolted against kings from ancient times,
engaging in rebellion and
sedition.

installed its doors, bolts, and bars.
Yea, forty years
didst thou
sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not
old, and their feet swelled not.

Asaph, there were directors for the singers and for the songs of praise and
thanksgiving to God.
And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and
old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the
thirteenth day of the
twelfth month, which is the month
Adar, and to take the
spoil of them for a prey.
And the letters were sent by couriers to each of the royal provinces with the order to destroy, kill, and
annihilate all the Jews—young and
old, women and children—and to
plunder their possessions on a single day, the
thirteenth day of
Adar, the
twelfth month.

While he was still speaking, another
messenger came and reported: “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their
oldest brother’s house,

old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the
stout lion’s whelps are scattered abroad.
The
old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the
lioness are scattered.
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
If its roots grow
old in the ground and its
stump dies in the soil,
With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
Both the gray-haired and the aged are on our side— men much older than your father.

Do you not know that from antiquity, since man was placed on the earth,
Wherefore do the wicked live, become
old,
yea, are mighty in power?
Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power?
Hast thou marked the
old way which wicked men have
trodden?
Will you stay on the ancient path that wicked men have
trod?

hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
the young men saw me and withdrew, and the old men rose to their feet.

whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom
old age was perished?
What use to me was the strength of their hands, since their
vigor had left them?

Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
Now
Elihu had waited to speak to Job because the others were
older than he.
And
Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very
old; wherefore I was afraid, and
durst not
shew you mine opinion.

Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite declared: “I am young in years, while you are
old; that is why I was
timid and afraid to tell you what I know.

mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of
old.
Remember, O LORD, Your
compassion and loving devotion, for they are from age to age.

old through my
roaring all the day long.
When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my
groaning all day long.

old; yet have I not seen the righteous
forsaken, nor his seed
begging bread.

old, yet never have I seen the righteous abandoned or their children
begging for bread.
We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou
didst in their days, in the times of
old.
We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us the work You did in their days, in the days of old.
God shall hear, and
afflict them, even he that abideth of
old.

God will hear and
humiliate them— the One enthroned for the ages—
Selah because they do not change and they have no fear of God.

old; lo, he
doth send out his voice, and that a mighty voice.

Cast me not off in the time of
old age;
forsake me not when my strength faileth.
Do not discard me in my
old age; do not
forsake me when my strength fails.
Now also when I am
old and greyheaded, O God,
forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
Even when I am
old and gray, do not
forsake me, O God, until I
proclaim Your power to the next generation, Your might to all who are to come.
Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of
old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount
Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
Remember Your congregation, which You purchased long ago and redeemed as the tribe of Your inheritance— Mount
Zion where You dwell.
For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
Yet God is my King from ancient times, working salvation on the earth.
I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
I considered the days of old, the years long in the past.
I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
I will remember the works of the LORD;
yes, I will remember Your wonders of
old.
I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the beginning,
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?
Where, O Lord, is Your loving devotion of
old, which You faithfully
swore to David?
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
In old age they will still bear fruit; healthy and green they will remain,
Thy throne is established of
old: thou art from
everlasting.
Your throne was established long ago; You are from all
eternity.
Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.
In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
They shall perish, but thou shalt
endure:
yea, all of them shall wax
old like a garment; as a
vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:
They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them, and they will be passed on.
I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself.
I remember Your judgments of old, O LORD, and in them I find comfort.
Concerning thy
testimonies, I have known of
old that thou hast founded them for ever.
I remember the days of
old; I
meditate on all thy works; I
muse on the work of thy hands.
I remember the days of
old; I
meditate on all Your works; I consider the work of Your hands.
Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children:
young men and maidens, old and young together.
The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
The LORD created me as His first course, before His works of old.
Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of a son is his father.
The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.
The glory of young men is their strength, and gray hair is the
splendor of the
old.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Remove not the
old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
Do not move an ancient boundary stone or
encroach on the fields of the fatherless,
Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not
despise your mother when she is
old.
Is there any thing
whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of
old time, which was before us.
Is there a case where one can say, “Look, this is new”? It has already existed in the ages before us.
Better is a poor and a wise child than an
old and
foolish king, who will no more be
admonished.
Better is a poor but wise youth than an
old but
foolish king who no longer knows how to take a
warning.
Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou
dost not
enquire wisely concerning this.
Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is unwise of you to ask about this.
The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.
The mandrakes send forth a
fragrance, and at our door is every delicacy, new as well as
old, that I have
treasured up for you, my beloved.
And the people shall be
oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall
behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.
The people will
oppress one another, man against man,
neighbor against
neighbor; the young will rise up against the
old, and the base against the honorable.
My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall
flee unto Zoar, an
heifer of three years
old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with
weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.
My heart
cries out over Moab; her fugitives
flee as far as Zoar, as far as Eglath-shelishiyah. With
weeping they
ascend the slope of Luhith; they
lament their destruction on the road to Horonaim.
So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians
captives, young and
old, naked and
barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
so the king of Assyria will lead away the
captives of Egypt and the exiles of
Cush, young and
old alike, naked and
barefoot, with bared buttocks—to Egypt’s shame.
Ye made also a
ditch between the two walls for the water of the
old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.
You built a
reservoir between the walls for the waters of the ancient
pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or consider Him who
planned it long ago.
O LORD, thou art my God; I will
exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of
old are faithfulness and truth.
O LORD, You are my God! I will
exalt You; I will praise Your name. For You have worked wonders— plans formed long ago— in perfect faithfulness.
The burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and
anguish, from whence come the young and
old lion, the
viper and
fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young
asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.
This is the burden against the beasts of the Negev: Through a land of
hardship and distress, of
lioness and lion, of
viper and flying serpent, they carry their wealth on the backs of
donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people of no profit to them.
For
Tophet is ordained of
old;
yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of
brimstone,
doth kindle it.
For Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king. Its funeral
pyre is deep and wide, with
plenty of fire and wood. The breath of the LORD, like a
torrent of burning sulfur, sets it
ablaze.
Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into
ruinous heaps.
Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of
old I
planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should
crush fortified cities into piles of
rubble.
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
“Do not call to mind the former things; pay no attention to the things of old.
And even to your
old age I am he; and even to
hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Even to your
old age, I will be the same, and I will bear you up when you turn gray. I have made you, and I will carry you; I will
sustain you and deliver you.
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
Remember what happened long ago, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me.
Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall
condemn me? lo, they all shall wax
old as a garment; the
moth shall eat them up.
Surely the Lord GOD helps Me. Who is there to
condemn Me? See, they will all wear out like a garment; the
moths will
devour them.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall
vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax
old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth below; for the heavens will
vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and its people will die like gnats. But My salvation will last
forever, and My righteousness will never fail.
Awake,
awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD;
awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of
old. Art thou not it that hath cut
Rahab, and wounded the
dragon?
Awake,
awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD.
Wake up as in days past, as in generations of
old. Was it not You who cut
Rahab to pieces, who pierced through the
dragon?
And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast
lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of
old, and thou fearest me not?
Whom have you
dreaded and feared, so that you
lied and failed to remember Me or take this to heart? Is it not because I have long been silent that you do not fear Me?
And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will restore the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of the Streets of Dwelling.
And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
They will rebuild the ancient ruins; they will restore the places long
devastated; they will renew the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.
In all their
affliction he was
afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his
pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of
old.
In all their distress, He too was
afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. In His love and
compassion He redeemed them; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of
old.
Then he remembered the days of
old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the
shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him?
Then His people remembered the days of
old, the days of Moses. Where is He who brought them through the sea with the
shepherds of His flock? Where is the One who set His Holy Spirit among them,
There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an
old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years
old; but the
sinner being an hundred years
old shall be
accursed.
No longer will a
nursing infant live but a few days, or an
old man fail to live out his years. For the youth will die at a hundred years, and he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered
accursed.
For of
old time I have broken thy yoke, and
burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not
transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the
harlot.
“For long ago you broke your yoke and
tore off your chains, saying, ‘I will not serve!’ Indeed, on every high hill and under every green tree you lay down as a
prostitute.
Therefore I am full of the
fury of the LORD; I am
weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
But I am full of the LORD’s wrath; I am
tired of holding it back. “Pour it out on the children in the street, and on the young men gathered together. For both husband and wife will be captured, the
old and the very
old alike.
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths: ‘Where is the good way?’ Then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’
The prophets that have been before me and before thee of
old prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of
pestilence.
The prophets of
old who preceded you and me
prophesied war,
disaster, and plague against many lands and great kingdoms.
Their children also shall be as
aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will
punish all that
oppress them.
Their children will be as in days of
old, and their congregation will be established before Me; and I will
punish all their oppressors.
The LORD hath appeared of
old unto me, saying,
Yea, I have loved thee with an
everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an
everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with loving devotion.
Then shall the virgin
rejoice in the dance, both young men and
old together: for I will turn their
mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them
rejoice from their sorrow.
Then the maidens will
rejoice with dancing, young men and
old as well. I will turn their
mourning into joy, and give them comfort and joy for their sorrow.
So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence
old cast clouts and
old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the
dungeon to Jeremiah.
Then Ebed-melech took the men with him and went to the king’s palace, to a place below the
storehouse. From there he took
old rags and worn-out clothes and lowered them with ropes to Jeremiah in the
cistern.
And Ebed-melech the
Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these
old cast clouts and
rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
Ebed-melech the
Cushite cried out to Jeremiah, “Put these worn-out rags and clothes under your arms to
pad the ropes.” Jeremiah did so,
And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.
I will deliver them into the hands of those who seek their lives—of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. But after this, Egypt will be inhabited as in days of
old, declares the LORD.
From the cry of
Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an
heifer of three years
old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be
desolate.
There is a cry from
Heshbon to Elealeh; they raise their voices to Jahaz, from Zoar to Horonaim and Eglath-shelishiyah; for even the waters of Nimrim have dried up.
With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces
old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the
maid;
Zedekiah was one and twenty years
old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of
Libnah.
Zedekiah was twenty-one years
old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from
Libnah.
Jerusalem remembered in the days of her
affliction and of her
miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of
old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the
adversaries saw her, and did
mock at her sabbaths.
In the days of her
affliction and wandering Jerusalem remembers all the treasures that were hers in days of
old. When her people fell into enemy hands she received no help. Her enemies looked upon her,
laughing at her
downfall.
The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of
old: he hath thrown down, and hath not
pitied: and he hath caused thine enemy to
rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine
adversaries.
The LORD has done what He
planned; He has accomplished His decree, which He ordained in days of
old; He has overthrown you without
pity. He has let the enemy
gloat over you and
exalted the horn of your foes.
The young and the
old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, and not
pitied.
Both young and
old lie together in the dust of the streets. My young men and maidens have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of Your anger; You have slaughtered them without
compassion.
My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.
He has worn away my flesh and skin; He has
shattered my bones.
He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.
He has made me dwell in darkness like those dead for ages.
Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
Restore us to
Yourself, O LORD, so we may return; renew our days as of
old,
