And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall
perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be
astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.
“In that day,” declares the LORD, “the king and officials will lose their courage. The priests will
tremble in fear, and the prophets will be
astounded.”
Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “I will lay
stumbling blocks before this people; fathers and sons alike will be
staggered; friends and neighbors will
perish.”
But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
Therefore you must say to them, ‘This is the nation that would not
listen to the voice of the LORD their God and would not receive correction. Truth has
perished; it has disappeared from their lips.
Why do we sit still?
assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have
sinned against the LORD.
Why are we just sitting here? Gather together, let us
flee to the fortified cities and
perish there, for the LORD our God has
doomed us. He has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have
sinned against the LORD.
Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
Who is the man wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the LORD spoken, that he may explain it? Why is the land destroyed and
scorched like a desert, so no one can pass through it?
Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
Thus you are to tell them: “These gods, who have made neither the heavens nor the earth, will perish from this earth and from under these heavens.”
They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their
visitation they shall
perish.

mocked. In the time of their punishment they will
perish.
Then said they, Come, and let us
devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not
perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us
smite him with the tongue, and let us not give
heed to any of his words.
Then some said, “Come, let us make plans against Jeremiah, for the law will never be lost to the priest, nor counsel to the wise, nor an
oracle to the prophet. Come, let us
denounce him and pay no
heed to any of his words.”
And I will send the sword, the famine, and the
pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.

For they
prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should
perish.
For they
prophesy to you a lie that will serve to remove you from your land; I will
banish you and you will
perish.
For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they
prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might
perish, ye, and the prophets that
prophesy unto you.
For I have not sent them, declares the LORD, and yet they are
prophesying falsely in My name; therefore I will
banish you, and you will
perish—you and the prophets who
prophesy to you.”
Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in
Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will
slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he
slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the
remnant in Judah
perish?
Then Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah at
Mizpah. “Let me go and kill
Ishmael son of Nethaniah,” he said. “No one will know it. Why should he take your life and
scatter all the people of Judah who have gathered to you, so that the
remnant of Judah would
perish?”
But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
But from the time we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been perishing by sword and famine.”
And the
spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall
perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken.
The destroyer will move against every city, and not one town will escape. The valley will also be ruined, and the high plain will be destroyed, as the LORD has said.
Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that he hath
gotten are
perished.
Therefore My heart laments like a
flute for Moab; it laments like a
flute for the men of Kir-heres, because the wealth they acquired has
perished.
Woe to you, O Moab! The people of
Chemosh have
perished; for your sons have been taken into exile and your daughters have gone into captivity.
Concerning
Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel
perished from the
prudent? is their wisdom
vanished?
Concerning
Edom, this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel
perished from the
prudent? Has their wisdom decayed?
They are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their
visitation they shall
perish.
They are worthless, a work to be
mocked. In the time of their punishment they will
perish.
I called for my lovers, but they
deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to
relieve their souls.
I called out to my lovers, but they have
betrayed me. My priests and elders
perished in the city while they searched for food to keep themselves alive.
And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:
So I say, “My strength has perished, along with my hope from the LORD.”
Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.
Disaster upon
disaster will come, and
rumor after
rumor. Then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but instruction from the priests will
perish, as will counsel from the elders.
Behold, therefore I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a
spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to
perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
therefore I will indeed stretch out My hand against you and give you as
plunder to the nations. I will cut you off from the peoples and
exterminate you from the countries. I will destroy you, and you will know that I am the LORD.’
And they shall take up a
lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that
wast inhabited of
seafaring men, the
renowned city, which
wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that
haunt it!
Then they will
lament for you, saying, “How you have
perished, O city of
renown inhabited by
seafaring men— she who was powerful on the sea, along with her people, who imposed terror on all peoples!
Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.
Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Look, they are saying, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope has perished; we are cut off.’
That they would desire
mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not
perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
urging them to
plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this
mystery, so that Daniel and his friends would not be killed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
Be ye
ashamed, O ye
husbandmen;
howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is
perished.
Be dismayed, O farmers,
wail, O vinedressers, over the wheat and barley, because the harvest of the field has
perished.
And I will cut off the inhabitant from
Ashdod, and him that holdeth the
sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against
Ekron: and the
remnant of the Philistines shall
perish, saith the Lord GOD.
I will cut off the ruler of
Ashdod and the one who wields the
scepter in Ashkelon. I will turn My hand against
Ekron, and the
remnant of the Philistines will
perish,” says the Lord GOD.
Therefore the flight shall
perish from the swift, and the strong shall not
strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:
Escape will fail the swift, the strong will not prevail by his strength, and the mighty will not save his life.
And I will
smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall
perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.
I will
tear down the winter house along with the summer house; the houses of ivory will also
perish, and the great houses will come to an end,” declares the LORD.
So the
shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we
perish not.
The captain approached him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call upon your God. Perhaps this God will consider us, so that we may not perish.”
Wherefore they
cried unto the LORD, and said, We
beseech thee, O LORD, we
beseech thee, let us not
perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
So they
cried out to the LORD: “Please, O LORD, do not let us
perish on account of this man’s life! Do not charge us with innocent blood! For You, O LORD, have done as You pleased.”
Who can tell if God will turn and
repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we
perish not?
Who knows? God may turn and relent; He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”
Then said the LORD, Thou hast had
pity on the
gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and
perished in a night:
But the LORD said, “You cared about the plant, which you neither tended nor made grow. It
sprang up in a night and
perished in a night.
Now why
dost thou cry out
aloud? is there no king in thee? is thy counsellor
perished? for pangs have taken thee as a woman in
travail.
Why do you now cry
aloud? Is there no king among you? Has your
counselor perished so that
anguish grips you like a woman in labor?
The good man is
perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they
hunt every man his brother with a net.
The godly man has
perished from the earth; there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; they
hunt one another with a net.
Ashkelon shall see it, and fear;
Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and
Ekron; for her expectation shall be
ashamed; and the king shall
perish from
Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.
Ashkelon will see and fear;
Gaza will
writhe in
agony, as will
Ekron, for her hope will wither. There will cease to be a king in
Gaza, and Ashkelon will be uninhabited.
Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.
Then I said, “I will no longer
shepherd you. Let the dying die, and the
perishing perish; and let those who remain
devour one another’s flesh.”
And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
And in all the land, declares the LORD, two-thirds will be cut off and perish, but a third will be left in it.
And if thy right eye
offend thee,
pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should
perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into
hell.
If your right eye causes you to sin,
gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into
hell.
And if thy right hand
offend thee, cut if off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should
perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into
hell.
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to depart into
hell.
And his disciples came to him, and
awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we
perish.
The disciples went and
woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are
perishing!”
And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the
herd of
swine: and, behold, the whole
herd of
swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and
perished in the waters.
“Go!” He told them. So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole
herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the waters.
Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will
burst, the wine will
spill, and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship,
asleep on a
pillow: and they
awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we
perish?
But Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on the
cushion. So they
woke Him and said, “Teacher, don’t You care that we are
perishing?”
And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will
burst the bottles, and be
spilled, and the bottles shall
perish.
And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will
burst the skins, the wine will
spill, and the wineskins will be ruined.
And they came to him, and
awoke him, saying, Master, master, we
perish. Then he arose, and
rebuked the wind and the
raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
The disciples went and
woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are
perishing!” Then Jesus got up and
rebuked the wind and the
raging waters, and they
subsided, and all was calm.
From the blood of
Abel unto the blood of
Zacharias, which
perished between the altar and the temple:
verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
from the blood of
Abel to the blood of
Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary.
Yes, I tell you, all of it will be charged to this generation.
I tell you,
Nay: but, except ye
repent, ye shall all likewise
perish.
No, I tell you. But unless you
repent, you too will all
perish.
I tell you,
Nay: but, except ye
repent, ye shall all likewise
perish.
No, I tell you. But unless you
repent, you too will all
perish.”
Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to
morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet
perish out of Jerusalem.
Nevertheless, I must keep going
today and
tomorrow and the next day, for it is not
admissible for a prophet to
perish outside of Jerusalem.
And when he came to himself, he said, How many
hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to
spare, and I
perish with hunger!
Finally he came to his senses and said, ‘How many of my father’s
hired servants have
plenty of food? But here I am,
starving to death!
But there shall not an hair of your head perish.
Yet not even a hair of your head will perish.
That
whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have eternal life.
that
everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have
everlasting life.
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that
everyone who believes in Him shall not
perish but have eternal life.
Labour not for the meat which
perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto
everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
Do not work for food that
perishes, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on Him God the Father has placed His seal of
approval.”
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never
perish, neither shall any man
pluck them out of my hand.
I give them eternal life, and they will never
perish. No one can
snatch them out of My hand.
Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
You do not
realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation
perish.”
After this man rose up
Judas of
Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also
perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were
dispersed.
After him,
Judas the
Galilean appeared in the days of the census and drew away people after him. He too
perished, and all his followers were scattered.
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
But Peter replied, “May your silver
perish with you, because you thought you could
buy the gift of God with money!
Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
‘Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish! For I am doing a work in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.’”
For as many as have
sinned without law shall also
perish without law: and as many as have
sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
For the preaching of the cross is to them that
perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
For the message of the cross is
foolishness to those who are
perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge.
And every man that striveth for the
mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
Everyone who competes in the games trains with strict discipline. They do it for a crown that is
perishable, but we do it for a crown that is imperishable.
Then they also which are fallen
asleep in Christ are
perished.
Then those also who have fallen
asleep in Christ have
perished.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
So will it be with the resurrection of the dead: What is sown is perishable; it is raised imperishable.
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot
inherit the kingdom of God; neither
doth corruption
inherit incorruption.
Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot
inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the
perishable inherit the imperishable.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this
mortal must put on immortality.
For the
perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the
mortal with immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.
When the
perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the
mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been
swallowed up in victory.”
For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
For we are to God the sweet
aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are
perishing.
But if our gospel be
hid, it is
hid to them that are lost:
And even if our gospel is
veiled, it is
veiled to those who are
perishing.
For which cause we
faint not; but though our outward man
perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day.
Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
These will all perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings.
And with all
deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that
perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
and with every wicked
deception directed against those who are
perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them.
They shall
perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as
doth a garment;
They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
By faith the
harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the
spies with peace.
For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it
perisheth: so also shall the rich man
fade away in his ways.
For the sun rises with
scorching heat and
withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will
fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
so that the
proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which
perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers,
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
For you have been born again, not of
perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and
enduring word of God.
But these, as natural
brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly
perish in their own corruption;
These men are like
irrational animals, creatures of
instinct, born to be captured and destroyed. They
blaspheme in matters they do not understand, and like such creatures, they too will be destroyed.
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
through which the world of that time perished in the flood.
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting
anyone to
perish but
everyone to come to
repentance.
Many also have
perished, have
erred, and
sinned, for women.
Wine is wicked, the king is wicked, women are wicked, all the children of men are wicked, and such are all their wicked works; and there is no truth in them; in their unrighteousness also they shall perish.
As for the servants whom I have given thee, there shall not one of them perish; for I will require them from among thy number.
Then answered I and said, O Lord that bearest rule, thou hast ordained in thy law, that the righteous should
inherit these things, but that the ungodly should
perish.
For there be many that
perish in this life, because they
despise the law of God that is set before them.
Like as the
husbandman’s seed
perisheth, if it come not up, and receive not thy rain in due season; or if there come too much rain, and corrupt it:
Even so
perisheth man also, which is formed with thy hands, and is called thine own image, because thou art like unto him, for whose sake thou hast made all things, and
likened him unto the
husbandman’s seed.
And therefore ask thou no more questions concerning the multitude of them that perish.
I have said before, and now do speak, and will speak it also
hereafter, that there be many more of them which
perish, than of them which shall be saved:
Let the multitude
perish then, which was born in vain; and let my
grape be kept, and my plant; for with great labour have I made it perfect.
But our fathers, which received the law, kept it not, and observed not thy ordinances: and though the fruit of thy law did not perish, neither could it, for it was thine;
Yet they that received it perished, because they kept not the thing that was sown in them.
And, lo, it is a custom, when the ground hath received seed, or the sea a ship, or any vessel meat or drink, that, that being perished wherein it was sown or cast into,
That thing also which was sown, or cast therein, or received,
doth perish, and remaineth not with us: but with us it hath not happened so.
