If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
If you do what is
right, will you not be accepted? But if you refuse to do what is
right, sin is
crouching at your door; it desires you, but you must master it.”
These are the generations of
Noah:
Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and
Noah walked with God.
This is the account of
Noah.
Noah was a
righteous man,
blameless in his generation;
Noah walked with God.
And the LORD said unto
Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen
righteous before me in this generation.
Then the LORD said to
Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your family, because I have found you
righteous in this generation.
Is not the whole land before thee? separate
thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou
wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the
right; or if thou depart to the
right hand, then I will go to the left.
Is not the whole land before you? Now separate
yourself from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the
right; if you go to the
right, I will go to the left.”
And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
Abram believed the LORD, and it was credited to him as
righteousness.
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
For I have chosen him, so that he will command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, in order that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has promised.”
And Abraham drew near, and said,
Wilt thou also destroy the
righteous with the wicked?
Abraham
stepped forward and said, “Will You really
sweep away the
righteous with the wicked?
Peradventure there be fifty
righteous within the city:
wilt thou also destroy and not
spare the place for the fifty
righteous that are therein?
What if there are fifty
righteous ones in the city? Will You really
sweep it away and not
spare the place for the sake of the fifty
righteous ones who are there?
That be far from thee to do after this manner, to
slay the
righteous with the wicked: and that the
righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do
right?
Far be it from You to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Will not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”
And the LORD said, If I find in
Sodom fifty
righteous within the city, then I will
spare all the place for their sakes.
So the LORD replied, “If I find fifty
righteous ones within the city of
Sodom, on their account I will
spare the whole place.”
Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty
righteous:
wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
suppose the fifty righteous ones lack five. Will You destroy the whole city for the lack of five?” He replied, “If I find forty-five there, I will not destroy it.”
But
Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord,
wilt thou
slay also a
righteous nation?
Now
Abimelech had not gone near her, so he replied, “Lord, would You destroy a nation even though it is innocent?
And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter unto his son.
Then I bowed down and worshiped the LORD; and I blessed the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who led me on the
right road to take the
granddaughter of my master’s brother for his son.
And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.
Now if you will show kindness and faithfulness to my master, tell me; but if not, let me know, so that I may go elsewhere.”
And he said, Is not he
rightly named Jacob? for he hath
supplanted me these two times: he took away my
birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
So
Esau declared, “Is he not
rightly named Jacob? For he has
cheated me twice. He took my
birthright, and now he has taken my blessing.” Then he asked, “
Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”
So shall my
righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my
hire before thy face: every one that is not
speckled and
spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted
stolen with me.
So my
honesty will
testify for me when you come to check on my wages in the future. If I have any goats that are not
speckled or
spotted, or any lambs that are not dark-colored, they will be considered
stolen.”
And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will
appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face;
peradventure he will accept of me.
You are also to say, ‘Look, your servant Jacob is
right behind us.’” For he thought, “I will
appease Esau with the gift that is going before me. After that I can face him, and perhaps he will accept me.”
And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
Judah recognized the items and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not have relations with her again.
And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his
right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and
Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’s
right hand, and brought them near unto him.
And Joseph took both of them—with Ephraim in his
right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and
Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’s
right hand—and brought them close to him.
And Israel stretched out his
right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon
Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands
wittingly; for
Manasseh was the
firstborn.
But Israel stretched out his
right hand and put it on the head of Ephraim, the younger; and crossing his hands, he put his left on
Manasseh’s head, although
Manasseh was the
firstborn.
And when Joseph saw that his father laid his
right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father’s hand, to remove it from Ephraim’s head unto
Manasseh’s head.
When Joseph saw that his father had placed his
right hand on Ephraim’s head, he was displeased and took his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to
Manasseh’s.
And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the
firstborn; put thy
right hand upon his head.
“Not so, my father!” Joseph said. “This one is the
firstborn; put your
right hand on his head.”
And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
But Moses replied, “It would not be
right to do that, because the sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be
detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices that are
detestable before the Egyptians, will they not stone us?
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have
sinned this time: the LORD is
righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have
sinned,” he said. “The LORD is
righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
But the Israelites had walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
Thy
right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy
right hand, O LORD, hath
dashed in pieces the enemy.
Your
right hand, O LORD, is
majestic in power; Your
right hand, O LORD, has
shattered the enemy.
Thou stretchedst out thy
right hand, the earth
swallowed them.
You stretched out Your
right hand, and the earth
swallowed them up.
And said, If thou
wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and
wilt do that which is
right in his sight, and
wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
saying, “If you will
listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is
right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
If she please not her master, who hath
betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt
deceitfully with her.
If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who had designated her for himself, he must allow her to be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, since he has broken faith with her.
If he take him another wife; her food, her
raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.
If he takes another wife, he must not reduce the food, clothing, or
marital rights of his first wife.
Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and
righteous slay thou not: for I will not
justify the wicked.
Stay far away from a false
accusation. Do not kill the innocent or the just, for I will not
acquit the guilty.
And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.
Do not accept a
bribe, for a
bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the
righteous.
Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the
tip of the
right ear of Aaron, and upon the
tip of the
right ear of his sons, and upon the
thumb of their
right hand, and upon the great
toe of their
right foot, and
sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.
Slaughter the ram, take some of its blood, and put it on the
right earlobes of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their
right hands, and on the
big toes of their
right feet.
Sprinkle the remaining blood on all sides of the altar.
Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the
rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the
caul above the liver, and the two
kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the
right shoulder; for it is a ram of
consecration:
Take the fat from the ram, the fat tail, the fat covering the
entrails, the
lobe of the liver, both
kidneys with the fat on them, and the
right thigh (since this is a ram for
ordination),
And the
right shoulder shall ye give unto the priest for an
heave offering of the sacrifices of your peace offerings.
And you are to give the
right thigh to the priest as a contribution from your peace offering.
He among the sons of Aaron, that offereth the blood of the peace offerings, and the fat, shall have the right shoulder for his part.
The son of Aaron who presents the blood and fat of the peace offering shall have the
right thigh as a portion.
And he
slew it; and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the
tip of Aaron’s
right ear, and upon the
thumb of his
right hand, and upon the great
toe of his
right foot.
Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on Aaron’s
right earlobe, on the
thumb of his
right hand, and on the
big toe of his
right foot.
And he brought Aaron’s sons, and Moses put of the blood upon the
tip of their
right ear, and upon the thumbs of their
right hands, and upon the great toes of their
right feet: and Moses
sprinkled the blood upon the altar round about.
Moses also presented Aaron’s sons and put some of the blood on their
right earlobes, on the thumbs of their
right hands, and on the
big toes of their
right feet. Then he
sprinkled the blood on all sides of the altar.
And he took the fat, and the
rump, and all the fat that was upon the inwards, and the
caul above the liver, and the two
kidneys, and their fat, and the
right shoulder:
And Moses took the fat—the fat tail, all the fat that was on the
entrails, the
lobe of the liver, and both
kidneys with their fat—as well as the
right thigh.
And the breasts and the right shoulder Aaron waved for a wave offering before the LORD; as Moses commanded.
but he waved the breasts and the
right thigh as a wave offering before the LORD, as Moses had commanded.
And the priest shall take some of the blood of the
trespass offering, and the priest shall put it upon the
tip of the
right ear of him that is to be
cleansed, and upon the
thumb of his
right hand, and upon the great
toe of his
right foot:
The priest is to take some of the blood from the guilt offering and put it on the
right earlobe of the one to be
cleansed, on the
thumb of his
right hand, and on the
big toe of his
right foot.
And the priest shall dip his
right finger in the oil that is in his left hand, and shall
sprinkle of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD:
dip his
right forefinger into the oil in his left palm, and
sprinkle some of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD.
And of the rest of the oil that is in his hand shall the priest put upon the
tip of the
right ear of him that is to be
cleansed, and upon the
thumb of his
right hand, and upon the great
toe of his
right foot, upon the blood of the
trespass offering:
And the priest is to put some of the oil remaining in his palm on the
right earlobe of the one to be
cleansed, on the
thumb of his
right hand, and on the
big toe of his
right foot, on top of the blood of the guilt offering.
And he shall kill the lamb of the
trespass offering, and the priest shall take some of the blood of the
trespass offering, and put it upon the
tip of the
right ear of him that is to be
cleansed, and upon the
thumb of his
right hand, and upon the great
toe of his
right foot:
And after he slaughters the lamb for the guilt offering, the priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the
right earlobe of the one to be
cleansed, on the
thumb of his
right hand, and on the
big toe of his
right foot.
And the priest shall
sprinkle with his
right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD:
and
sprinkle with his
right forefinger some of the oil in his left palm seven times before the LORD.
And the priest shall put of the oil that is in his hand upon the
tip of the
right ear of him that is to be
cleansed, and upon the
thumb of his
right hand, and upon the great
toe of his
right foot, upon the place of the blood of the
trespass offering:
The priest shall also put some of the oil in his palm on the
right earlobe of the one to be
cleansed, on the
thumb of his
right hand, and on the
big toe of his
right foot—on the same places as the blood of the guilt offering.
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
And if a man sell a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may
redeem it within a whole year after it is sold; within a full year may he
redeem it.
If a man sells a house in a walled city, he retains his
right of
redemption until a full year after its sale; during that year it may be redeemed.
Notwithstanding the cities of the Levites, and the houses of the cities of their possession, may the Levites
redeem at any time.
As for the cities of the Levites, the Levites always have the
right to
redeem their houses in the cities they possess.
After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may
redeem him:
he retains the
right of
redemption after he has sold himself. One of his brothers may
redeem him:
And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my
wretchedness.
If this is how You are going to treat me, please kill me
right now—if I have found favor in Your eyes—and let me not see my own
wretchedness.”
And the flesh of them shall be thine, as the wave breast and as the right shoulder are thine.
And their meat belongs to you, just as the breast and
right thigh of the wave offering belong to you.
Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
Please let us pass through your land. We will not cut through any field or
vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will stay on the King’s
Highway; we will not turn to the
right or to the left until we have passed through your territory.”
And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
And the angel of the LORD moved on
ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn to the
right or left.
And
Balaam said unto the
ass, Because thou hast
mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
Balaam answered the
donkey, “You have made a
fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you
right now!”
Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
Who can count the dust of Jacob or number even a fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous; let my end be like theirs!”
The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.
“The daughters of Zelophehad speak correctly. You certainly must give them property as an inheritance among their father’s brothers, and transfer their father’s inheritance to them.
And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
At that time I charged your judges: “Hear the disputes between your brothers, and judge fairly between a man and his brother or a foreign resident.
Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
“Let us pass through your land; we will stay on the main road. We will not turn to the right or to the left.
And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
And what nation is great enough to have
righteous statutes and ordinances like this entire law I set before you
today?
Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
So be careful to do as the LORD your God has commanded you; you are not to turn aside to the right or to the left.
And thou shalt do that which is
right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers,
Do what is
right and good in the sight of the LORD, so that it may be well with you and that you may enter and possess the good land that the LORD your God
swore to give your fathers,
And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
And if we are careful to observe every one of these commandments before the LORD our God, as He has commanded us, then that will be our righteousness.”
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my
righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD
doth drive them out from before thee.
When the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say in your heart, “Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land.” Rather, the LORD is driving out these nations before you because of their wickedness.
Not for thy
righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart,
dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD
sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
It is not because of your
righteousness or uprightness of heart that you are going in to possess their land, but it is because of their wickedness that the LORD your God is driving out these nations before you, to keep the promise He
swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.
Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.
Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man
whatsoever is
right in his own eyes.
You are not to do as we are doing here
today, where
everyone does what seems
right in his own eyes.
Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
Do not eat it, so that it may go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is right in the eyes of the LORD.
Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.
Be careful to obey all these things I command you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the LORD your God.
When thou shalt
hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is
right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.
because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all His commandments I am giving you
today and doing what is
right in the eyes of the LORD your God.
Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.
You are to
appoint judges and officials for your tribes in every town that the LORD your God is giving you. They are to judge the people with
righteous judgment.
Thou shalt not
wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift
doth blind the eyes of the wise, and
pervert the words of the
righteous.
Do not deny justice or show
partiality. Do not accept a
bribe, for a
bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the
righteous.
According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall
shew thee, to the
right hand, nor to the left.
according to the terms of law they give and the
verdict they
proclaim. Do not turn aside to the
right or to the left from the decision they declare to you.
That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the
right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may
prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.
Then his heart will not be
exalted above his countrymen, and he will not turn aside from the commandment, to the
right or to the left, in order that he and his sons may reign many years over his kingdom in Israel.
So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
So you shall
purge from among you the guilt of
shedding innocent blood, since you have done what is
right in the eyes of the LORD.
But he shall acknowledge the son of the
hated for the
firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the
right of the
firstborn is his.
Instead, he must acknowledge the
firstborn, the son of his unloved wife, by giving him a double portion of all that he has. For that son is the firstfruits of his father’s strength; the
right of the
firstborn belongs to him.
In any case thou shalt deliver him the
pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own
raiment, and
bless thee: and it shall be
righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.
be sure to return it to him by
sunset, so that he may sleep in his own
cloak and
bless you, and this will be credited to you as
righteousness before the LORD your God.
If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall
justify the
righteous, and
condemn the wicked.
If there is a dispute between men, they are to go to court to be judged, so that the innocent may be
acquitted and the guilty condemned.
And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
Do not turn aside to the
right or to the left from any of the words I command you
today, and do not go after other gods to serve them.
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He.
And he said, The LORD came from
Sinai, and rose up from
Seir unto them; he
shined forth from mount
Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his
right hand went a
fiery law for them.
He said: “The LORD came from
Sinai and
dawned upon us from
Seir; He
shone forth from Mount
Paran and came with myriads of holy ones, with flaming fire at His
right hand.
They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of
righteousness: for they shall
suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures
hid in the sand.
They will call the peoples to a mountain; there they will offer sacrifices of righteousness. For they will feast on the abundance of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand.”
Only be thou strong and very
courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the
right hand or to the left, that thou mayest
prosper whithersoever thou goest.
Above all, be strong and very
courageous. Be careful to observe all the law that My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the
right or to the left, so that you may
prosper wherever you go.
That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an
heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over
right against
Jericho.
the flowing water stood still. It backed up as far
upstream as Adam, a city in the area of Zarethan, while the water flowing toward the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite
Jericho.
And now, behold, we are in thine hand: as it seemeth good and right unto thee to do unto us, do.
Now we are in your hands. Do to us whatever seems good and right to you.”
And the coast of
Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before
Shechem; and the border went along on the
right hand unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.
Now the border of
Manasseh went from Asher to Michmethath near
Shechem, then southward to include the inhabitants of En-tappuah.
Be ye therefore very
courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside
therefrom to the
right hand or to the left;
Be very strong, then, so that you can keep and obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, not turning aside from it to the right or to the left.
And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the
dagger from his
right thigh, and thrust it into his
belly:
And Ehud reached with his left hand, pulled the sword from his
right thigh, and
plunged it into
Eglon’s
belly.
They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they
rehearse the
righteous acts of the LORD, even the
righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the LORD go down to the gates.
the voices of the singers at the watering places. There they shall recount the righteous acts of the LORD, the righteous deeds of His villagers in Israel. Then the people of the LORD went down to the gates:
She put her hand to the
nail, and her
right hand to the workmen’s hammer; and with the hammer she
smote Sisera, she
smote off his head, when she had pierced and
stricken through his temples.
She reached for the tent
peg, her
right hand for the
workman’s hammer. She struck Sisera and
crushed his skull; she
shattered and pierced his temple.
And the three companies
blew the
trumpets, and
brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the
trumpets in their
right hands to blow
withal: and they
cried, The sword of the LORD, and of
Gideon.
The three companies
blew their horns and
shattered their jars. Holding the torches in their left hands and the horns in their
right hands, they
shouted, “A sword for the LORD and for
Gideon!”
Then said they unto him, Say now
Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to
pronounce it
right. Then they took him, and
slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
