Also unto Shemaiah his son were sons born, that ruled throughout the house of their father: for they were mighty men of valour.

The
sons of Shemaiah; Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad, whose brethren were strong men,

As concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli.
From the descendants of Ladan, who were Gershonites through Ladan and heads of the families of Ladan the Gershonite, were Jehieli,
The

Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the LORD.

Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites was
Eliezer the
son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the

Joab the
son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.
And over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah:

Also
Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a
scribe: and Jehiel the
son of Hachmoni was with the king’s
sons:
David’s uncle
Jonathan was a
counselor; he was a man of insight and a
scribe. Jehiel
son of Hachmoni attended to the
sons of the king.
And after
Ahithophel was Jehoiada the
son of Benaiah, and
Abiathar: and the general of the king’s army was
Joab.
Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada
son of Benaiah, then by
Abiathar.
Joab was the commander of the king’s army.
And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his
sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the
valiant men, unto Jerusalem.
Now David summoned all the leaders of Israel to Jerusalem: the leaders of the tribes, the leaders of the divisions in the king’s service, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and cattle of the king and his
sons, along with the court officials and mighty men—every mighty man of
valor.
Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the
sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father’s house to be king over Israel
forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah He chose my father’s household, and from my father’s
sons He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
And He said to me, ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him as My son, and I will be his Father.
And thou, Solomon my
son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou
forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
As for you, Solomon my
son, know the God of your father and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands the intent of every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you
forsake Him, He will
reject you
forever.
Then David gave to Solomon his
son the pattern of the
porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the
treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,
Then David gave his
son Solomon the plans for the
portico of the temple, its buildings, storehouses, upper rooms, inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat.
And David said to Solomon his
son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
David also said to Solomon his
son, “Be strong and
courageous, and do it. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will neither fail you nor
forsake you before all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.
Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my
son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
Then King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great because this palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
And give unto Solomon my
son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy
testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.
And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep and carry out all Your commandments, decrees, and statutes, and to build Your palace for which I have made provision.”
And did eat and drink before the LORD on that day with great
gladness. And they made Solomon the
son of David king the second time, and
anointed him unto the LORD to be the chief governor, and
Zadok to be priest.
That day they
ate and
drank with great joy in the presence of the LORD. Then, for a second time, they designated David’s
son Solomon as king,
anointing him before the LORD as ruler, and
Zadok as the priest.
And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.
All the officials and mighty men, as well as all of King David’s
sons,
pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.
Thus David the
son of
Jesse reigned over all Israel.
David
son of
Jesse was king over all Israel.
And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his
son reigned in his
stead.
He died at a ripe old age, full of years, riches, and honor, and his son Solomon reigned in his place.
And Solomon the
son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and
magnified him exceedingly.
Now Solomon
son of David established himself securely over his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and highly
exalted him.
Moreover the
brasen altar, that Bezaleel the
son of
Uri, the
son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
But the bronze altar made by Bezalel
son of
Uri, the
son of Hur, was in
Gibeon before the tabernacle of the LORD. So Solomon and the assembly inquired of Him there.
Huram said moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise
son,
endued with
prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
And
Hiram added: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth! He has given King David a wise
son with insight and understanding, who will build a temple for the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
The
son of a woman of the daughters of
Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every
device which shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my lord David thy father.
He is the
son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and his father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my lord, your father David.
Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of
Asaph, of Heman, of
Jeduthun, with their
sons and their brethren, being
arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and
psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with
trumpets:)
all the
Levitical singers—
Asaph, Heman,
Jeduthun, and their
sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, accompanied by 120 priests sounding
trumpets.
Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of
Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of
Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of
Iddo the
seer against
Jeroboam the
son of Nebat?
As for the rest of the acts of Solomon, from beginning to end, are they not written in the Records of
Nathan the Prophet, in the Prophecy of
Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the Visions of
Iddo the
Seer concerning
Jeroboam son of Nebat?
And Solomon
slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father: and
Rehoboam his
son reigned in his
stead.
And Solomon rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. And his
son Rehoboam reigned in his place.
And it came to pass, when
Jeroboam the
son of Nebat, who was in Egypt,
whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that
Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
When
Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this, he returned from Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon.
So the king
hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam the
son of Nebat.
So the king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the LORD might
fulfill the word that He had spoken through
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam son of Nebat.
And when all Israel saw that the king would not
hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the
son of
Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
When all Israel saw that the king had refused to
listen to them, they answered the king: “What portion do we have in David, and what inheritance in the
son of
Jesse? To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David!” So all the Israelites went home,
Speak unto
Rehoboam the
son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
“Tell
Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah and all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin
For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for
Jeroboam and his
sons had cast them off from
executing the priest’s office unto the LORD:
For the Levites left their pasturelands and their possessions and went to Judah and Jerusalem, because
Jeroboam and his
sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made
Rehoboam the
son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported
Rehoboam son of Solomon for three years, because they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.
And
Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the
son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the
son of
Jesse;
And
Rehoboam married Mahalath, who was the daughter of David’s
son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of
Jesse’s
son Eliab.
Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.
She bore sons to him: Jeush, Shemariah, and Zaham.
And
Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of
Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and
threescore concubines; and
begat twenty and eight
sons, and
threescore daughters.)
Rehoboam loved
Maacah daughter of
Absalom more than all his wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he was the father of twenty-eight
sons and sixty daughters.
And
Rehoboam made
Abijah the
son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.
Rehoboam appointed
Abijah son of
Maacah as chief prince among his brothers, intending to make him king.
And he dealt wisely, and
dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every
fenced city: and he gave them
victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
Rehoboam also acted wisely by
dispersing some of his
sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought many wives for them.
And
Rehoboam rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his
son Abijah reigned in his place.
Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
Do you not know that the LORD, the God of Israel, has given the
kingship of Israel to David and his descendants
forever by a covenant of salt?
Yet
Jeroboam the
son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the
son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.
Yet
Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon
son of David, rose up and rebelled against his master.
And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of
Belial, and have strengthened themselves against
Rehoboam the
son of Solomon, when
Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not
withstand them.
Then worthless and wicked men gathered around him to resist
Rehoboam son of Solomon when he was young, inexperienced, and unable to resist them.
And now ye think to
withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the
sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden
calves, which
Jeroboam made you for gods.
And now you think you can resist the kingdom of the LORD, which is in the hands of David’s descendants. You are indeed a vast army, and you have with you the golden
calves that
Jeroboam made for you as gods.
Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the
sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not drive out the priests of the LORD, the
sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are not gods.
But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not
forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the
sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
But as for us, the LORD is our God. We have not
forsaken Him; the priests who minister to the LORD are
sons of Aaron, and the Levites attend to their duties.
But
Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and
begat twenty and two
sons, and sixteen daughters.
But
Abijah grew strong, married fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two
sons and sixteen daughters.
So
Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Asa his
son reigned in his
stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
Then
Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his
son Asa reigned in his place, and in his days the land was at peace for ten years.
And the Spirit of God came upon
Azariah the
son of
Oded:
