And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was
hovering over the surface of the
waters.
And God said, Let there be a
firmament in the midst of the
waters, and let it divide the
waters from the
waters.
And God said, “Let there be an
expanse between the
waters, to separate the
waters from the
waters.”
And God made the
firmament, and divided the
waters which were under the
firmament from the
waters which were above the
firmament: and it was so.
So God made the
expanse and separated the
waters beneath it from the
waters above. And it was so.
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered into one place, so that the dry land may appear.” And it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of waters He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let the
waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open
firmament of heaven.
And God said, “Let the
waters teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open
expanse of the sky.”
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
So God created the great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the
waters teemed according to their kinds, and every bird of flight after its kind. And God saw that it was good.
And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters of the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
But there went up a
mist from the earth, and
watered the whole face of the ground.
But springs welled up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
And a river went out of
Eden to
water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
Now a river flowed out of
Eden to
water the garden, and from there it branched into four headwaters:
And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
And behold, I will bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy every creature under the heavens that has the breath of life. Everything on the earth will perish.
And
Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of
waters was upon the earth.
Now
Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came upon the earth.
And
Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the
waters of the flood.
And
Noah and his wife, with his sons and their wives, entered the ark to escape the
waters of the flood.
And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
And after seven days the floodwaters came upon the earth.
And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and the waters rose and lifted the ark high above the earth.
And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
So the
waters continued to
surge and rise greatly on the earth, and the ark
floated on the surface of the
waters.
And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.
Finally, the
waters completely
inundated the earth, so that all the high mountains under all the heavens were covered.
Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.
The waters rose and covered the mountaintops to a depth of fifteen cubits.
And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
And the waters prevailed upon the earth for 150 days.
And God remembered
Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the
waters asswaged;
But God remembered
Noah and all the animals and
livestock that were with him in the ark. And God sent a wind over the earth, and the
waters began to
subside.
And the
waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the
waters were
abated.
The
waters receded steadily from the earth, and after 150 days the
waters had gone down.
And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
And the
waters continued to
recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.
And he sent forth a
raven, which went forth to and
fro, until the
waters were dried up from off the earth.
and sent out a
raven. It kept flying back and forth until the
waters had dried up from the earth.
Also he sent forth a
dove from him, to see if the
waters were
abated from off the face of the ground;
Then
Noah sent out a
dove to see if the
waters had
receded from the surface of the ground.
But the
dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the
waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
But the
dove found no place to rest her foot, and she returned to him in the ark, because the
waters were still covering the surface of all the earth. So he reached out his hand and brought her back inside the ark.
And the
dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so
Noah knew that the
waters were
abated from off the earth.
And behold, the
dove returned to him in the evening with a freshly
plucked olive leaf in her
beak. So
Noah knew that the
waters had
receded from the earth.
And it came to pass in the six
hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the
waters were dried up from off the earth: and
Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
In
Noah’s six hundred and first year, on the first day of the first month, the
waters had dried up from the earth. So
Noah removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry.
And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
I will remember My covenant between Me and you and every living creature of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
And Lot lifted up his eyes, and
beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well
watered every where, before the LORD destroyed
Sodom and
Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
And Lot looked out and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan, all the way to Zoar, was well
watered like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed
Sodom and
Gomorrah.)
And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
Now the angel of the LORD found
Hagar by a spring of
water in the desert—the spring along the road to Shur.
Let a little
water, I pray you, be
fetched, and wash your feet, and rest
yourselves under the tree:
Let a little
water be brought, that you may wash your feet and rest
yourselves under the tree.
And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a
bottle of
water, and gave it unto
Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and
wandered in the wilderness of Beer-
sheba.
Early in the morning, Abraham got up, took bread and a skin of
water, put them on
Hagar’s shoulders, and sent her away with the boy. She left and
wandered in the Wilderness of
Beersheba.
And the
water was spent in the
bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.
When the water in the skin was gone, she left the boy under one of the bushes.
And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of
water; and she went, and filled the
bottle with
water, and gave the
lad drink.
Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.
And Abraham reproved
Abimelech because of a well of
water, which
Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away.
And he made his camels to
kneel down without the city by a well of
water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw
water.
As evening approached, he made the camels
kneel down near the well outside the town at the time when the women went out to draw
water.
Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
Here I am, standing beside the spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water.
And let it come to pass, that the
damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
Now may it happen that the
girl to whom I say, ‘Please let down your
jar that I may drink,’ and who responds, ‘Drink, and I will
water your camels as well’—let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. By this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.”
And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.
So the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please let me have a little
water from your
jar.”
And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
After she had given him a drink, she said, “I will also draw water for your camels, until they have had enough to drink.”
And she hasted, and
emptied her pitcher into the
trough, and ran again unto the well to draw
water, and drew for all his camels.
And she quickly
emptied her
jar into the
trough and ran back to the well to draw
water, until she had drawn
water for all his camels.
And the man came into the house: and he
ungirded his camels, and gave straw and
provender for the camels, and
water to wash his feet, and the men’s feet that were with him.
So the man came to the house, and the camels were unloaded. Straw and feed were brought to the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of his companions.
Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;
Here I am, standing beside this spring. Now if a
maiden comes out to draw
water and I say to her, ‘Please let me drink a little
water from your
jar,’
And she say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: let the same be the woman whom the LORD hath appointed out for my master’s son.
and she
replies, ‘Drink, and I will draw
water for your camels as well,’ may she be the woman the LORD has appointed for my master’s son.
And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold,
Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew
water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
And before I had finished praying in my heart, there was
Rebekah coming out with her
jar on her shoulder, and she went down to the spring and drew
water. So I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’
And she made
haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I
drank, and she made the camels drink also.
She quickly lowered her
jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I will
water your camels as well.’ So I
drank, and she also
watered the camels.
And Isaac
digged again the wells of
water, which they had
digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
Isaac reopened the wells that had been
dug in the days of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died. And he gave these wells the same names his father had given them.
And Isaac’s servants
digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing
water.
Then Isaac’s servants
dug in the valley and found a well of fresh
water there.
And the herdmen of
Gerar did
strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The
water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they
strove with him.
But the herdsmen of
Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen and said, “The
water is ours!” So he named the well Esek, because they
contended with him.
And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had
digged, and said unto him, We have found
water.
On that same day, Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had
dug. “We have found
water!” they told him.
And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.
He looked and saw a well in the field, and near it lay three flocks of sheep, because the sheep were watered from this well. And a large stone covered the mouth of the well.
And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well’s mouth in his place.
When all the flocks had been gathered there, the
shepherds would roll away the stone from the mouth of the well and
water the sheep. Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well.
And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.
“Look,” said Jacob, “it is still broad
daylight; it is not yet time to gather the
livestock.
Water the sheep and take them back to pasture.”
And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.
But they replied, “We cannot, until all the flocks have been gathered and the stone has been rolled away from the mouth of the well. Then we will water the sheep.”
And it came to pass, when Jacob saw
Rachel the daughter of
Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of
Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and
watered the flock of
Laban his mother’s brother.
As soon as Jacob saw
Rachel, the daughter of his mother’s brother
Laban, with
Laban’s sheep, he went up and rolled the stone away from the mouth of the well and
watered his uncle’s sheep.
And he set the rods which he had
pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the
watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.
Then he set the
peeled branches in the
watering troughs in front of the flocks coming in to drink. So when the flocks were in heat and came to drink,
And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
and they took him and threw him into the pit. Now the pit was empty, with no water in it.
And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them
water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their
asses provender.
And the
steward took the men into Joseph’s house, gave them
water to wash their feet, and provided food for their
donkeys.
Unstable as
water, thou shalt not
excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my
couch.
And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
When the child had grown older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses and explained, “I drew him out of the water.”
Now the priest of
Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew
water, and filled the troughs to
water their father’s flock.
Now the priest of
Midian had seven daughters, and they came to draw
water and fill the troughs to
water their father’s flock.
And the
shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and
watered their flock.
And when some
shepherds came along and drove them away, Moses rose up to help them and
watered their flock.
And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the
shepherds, and also drew
water enough for us, and
watered the flock.
“An Egyptian
rescued us from the
shepherds,” they replied. “He even drew
water for us and
watered the flock.”
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither
hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the
water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the
water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
But if they do not believe even these two signs or
listen to your voice, take some
water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. Then the
water you take from the Nile will become blood on the ground.”
Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the
water; and thou shalt stand by the river’s
brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning as you see him walking out to the
water. Wait on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a
snake.
Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will
smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the
waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD. Behold, with the staff in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will turn to blood.
And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall
stink; and the Egyptians shall
lothe to drink of the
water of the river.
The fish in the Nile will die, the river will
stink, and the Egyptians will be unable to drink its
water.’”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
And the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their rivers and canals and ponds and reservoirs—that they may become blood.’ There will be blood throughout the land of Egypt, even in the vessels of wood and stone.”
And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and
smote the
waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the
waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded; in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials, Aaron raised the staff and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was turned to blood.
And the fish that was in the river died; and the river
stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the
water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. And there was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
And all the Egyptians
digged round about the river for
water to drink; for they could not drink of the
water of the river.
So all the Egyptians
dug around the Nile for
water to drink, because they could not drink the
water from the river.
And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.
So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, and when Pharaoh goes out to the water, stand before him and tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
Eat not of it raw, nor
sodden at all with
water, but
roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the
purtenance thereof.
Do not eat any of the meat raw or
cooked in boiling
water, but only
roasted over the fire—its head and legs and inner parts.
And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind that turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided,
And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the
waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their
chariots, and upon their
horsemen.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the
waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their
chariots and
horsemen.”
And the
waters returned, and covered the
chariots, and the
horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
The
waters flowed back and covered the
chariots and
horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had
chased the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
But the Israelites had walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
And with the blast of thy nostrils the
waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an
heap, and the depths were
congealed in the heart of the sea.
At the blast of Your nostrils the
waters piled up; like a wall the currents stood firm; the depths
congealed in the heart of the sea.
Thou
didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they
sank as lead in the mighty
waters.
But You
blew with Your breath, and the sea covered them. They
sank like lead in the mighty
waters.
For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his
chariots and with his
horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the
waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
For when Pharaoh’s horses,
chariots, and
horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the
waters of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.
So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the Desert of Shur. For three days they walked in the desert without finding water.
And when they came to
Marah, they could not drink of the
waters of
Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called
Marah.
And when they came to
Marah, they could not drink the
water there because it was bitter. (That is why it was named
Marah.)
And he
cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the
waters, the
waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an
ordinance, and there he proved them,
And Moses
cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a log. And when he cast it into the
waters, they were
sweetened. There the LORD made for them a statute and an
ordinance, and there He tested them,
And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of
water, and
threescore and ten palm trees: and they
encamped there by the
waters.
Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there by the waters.
And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in
Rephidim: and there was no
water for the people to drink.
Then the whole congregation of Israel left the Desert of Sin, moving from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at
Rephidim, but there was no
water for the people to drink.
Wherefore the people did
chide with Moses, and said, Give us
water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why
chide ye with me? wherefore do ye
tempt the LORD?
So the people
contended with Moses, “Give us
water to drink.” “Why do you
contend with me?” Moses replied. “Why do you test the LORD?”
And the people
thirsted there for
water; and the people
murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with
thirst?
But the people
thirsted for
water there, and they grumbled against Moses: “Why have you brought us out of Egypt—to make us and our children and
livestock die of
thirst?”
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in
Horeb; and thou shalt
smite the rock, and there shall come
water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Behold, I will stand there before you by the rock at
Horeb. And when you strike the rock,
water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any
graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the
water under the earth:
You shall not make for
yourself an
idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the
waters beneath.
And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall
bless thy bread, and thy
water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will
bless your bread and your
water. And I will take away sickness from among you.
And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shalt wash them with water.
Then present Aaron and his sons at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
Thou shalt also make a
laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash
withal: and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar, and thou shalt put
water therein.
“You are to make a bronze basin with a bronze stand for washing. Set it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it,
When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:
Whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting or approach the altar to minister by presenting an offering made by fire to the LORD, they must wash with water so that they will not die.
And he took the
calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the
water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
Then he took the
calf they had made, burned it in the fire, ground it to powder, and scattered the powder over the face of the
water. Then he forced the Israelites to drink it.
And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
So Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.
And thou shalt set the
laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and shalt put
water therein.
And place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.
Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
