And when they came down to him,
Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said,
Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he
smote them with blindness according to the
word of
Elisha.
As the Arameans came down against him,
Elisha prayed to the LORD, “Please strike these people with blindness.” So He struck them with blindness, according to the
word of
Elisha.
And it came to pass, when the king heard the
words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had
sackcloth within upon his flesh.
When the king heard the
words of the woman, he
tore his clothes. And as he passed by on the wall, the people saw the
sackcloth under his clothes next to his skin.
Then
Elisha said, Hear ye the
word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To
morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a
shekel, and two measures of barley for a
shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
Then
Elisha said, “Hear the
word of the LORD! This is what the LORD says: ‘About this time
tomorrow at the gate of Samaria, a
seah of fine flour will sell for a
shekel, and two seahs of barley will sell for a
shekel.’”
And the people went out, and
spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a
shekel, and two measures of barley for a
shekel, according to the
word of the LORD.
Then the people went out and
plundered the camp of the Arameans. It was then that a
seah of fine flour sold for a
shekel, and two seahs of barley sold for a
shekel, according to the
word of the LORD.
Surely I have seen
yesterday the blood of
Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the LORD; and I will requite thee in this
plat, saith the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the
plat of ground, according to the
word of the LORD.
‘As surely as I saw the blood of
Naboth and the blood of his sons
yesterday, declares the LORD, so will I repay you on this plot of ground, declares the LORD.’ Now then, according to the
word of the LORD,
pick him up and throw him on the plot of ground.”
Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the
word of the LORD, which he spake by his servant
Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of
Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of
Jezebel:
So they went back and told
Jehu, who replied, “This is the
word of the LORD, which He spoke through His servant
Elijah the Tishbite: ‘On the plot of ground at
Jezreel the dogs will
devour the flesh of
Jezebel.
Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the
word of the LORD, which the LORD spake concerning the house of
Ahab: for the LORD hath done that which he spake by his servant
Elijah.
Know, then, that not a
word the LORD has spoken against the house of
Ahab will fail, for the LORD has done what He promised through His servant
Elijah.”
And when he came to Samaria, he
slew all that remained unto
Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the LORD, which he spake to
Elijah.
When
Jehu came to Samaria, he struck down
everyone belonging to
Ahab who remained there, until he had destroyed them, according to the
word that the LORD had spoken to
Elijah.
And
Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of
Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of
Baal; and the house of
Baal was full from one end to another.
Then
Jehu sent
word throughout Israel, and all the servants of
Baal came; there was not a man who failed to show. They entered the temple of
Baal, and it was filled from end to end.
He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of
Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the
word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant
Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of
Gath-hepher.
This
Jeroboam restored the boundary of Israel from Lebo-
hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the
word that the LORD, the God of Israel, had spoken through His servant
Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from
Gath-hepher.
This was the
word of the LORD which he spake unto
Jehu, saying, Thy sons shall sit on the throne of Israel unto the fourth generation. And so it came to pass.
So the
word of the LORD spoken to
Jehu was fulfilled: “Four generations of your sons will sit on the throne of Israel.”
And
Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to
Lachish, saying, I have
offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
So
Hezekiah king of Judah sent
word to the king of Assyria at
Lachish, saying, “I have done wrong; withdraw from me, and I will pay whatever you demand from me.” And the king of Assyria exacted from
Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
Thou sayest, (but they are but vain
words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom
dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
You claim to have a
strategy and strength for war, but these are empty
words. In whom are you now trusting, that you have rebelled against me?
But
Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these
words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you.
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these
words only to you and your master, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
Then
Rab-shakeh stood and
cried with a loud voice in the Jews language, and spake, saying, Hear the
word of the great king, the king of Assyria:
Then the
Rabshakeh stood and called out loudly in Hebrew: “Hear the
word of the great king, the king of Assyria!
But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
But the people remained silent and did not answer a
word, for
Hezekiah had commanded, “Do not answer him.”
Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah the son of
Asaph the recorder, to
Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the
words of
Rab-shakeh.
It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the
words of
Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the
words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the
remnant that are left.
Perhaps the LORD your God will hear all the
words of the
Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to
defy the living God, and He will
rebuke him for the
words that the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the
remnant that still survives.”
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the
words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed me.
who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid of the
words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed Me.
LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the
words of
Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.
This is the
word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of
Zion hath
despised thee, and
laughed thee to
scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath
shaken her head at thee.
This is the
word that the LORD has spoken against him: ‘The Virgin Daughter of
Zion despises you and mocks you; the Daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head behind you.
And it came to pass,
afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the
word of the LORD came to him, saying,
Before Isaiah had left the middle
courtyard, the
word of the LORD came to him, saying,
And Isaiah said unto
Hezekiah, Hear the
word of the LORD.
Then Isaiah said to
Hezekiah, “Hear the
word of the LORD:
Then said
Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the
word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
But
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The
word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Will there not at least be peace and security in my lifetime?”
And Shaphan the
scribe came to the king, and brought the king
word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.
And Shaphan the
scribe went to the king and reported, “Your servants have paid out the money that was found in the temple and have put it into the hands of the workers and supervisors of the house of the LORD.”
And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.
When the king heard the
words of the Book of the Law, he
tore his clothes
Go ye,
enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the
words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is
kindled against us, because our fathers have not
hearkened unto the
words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me, for the people, and for all Judah concerning the words in this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that burns against us because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book by doing all that is written about us.”
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:
that this is what the LORD says: I am about to bring
calamity on this place and on its people, according to all the
words of the book that the king of Judah has read,
But to the king of Judah which sent you to
enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the
words which thou hast heard;
But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘As for the words that you heard,
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.
And he went up to the house of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as well as the priests and the prophets—all the people small and great—and in their hearing he read all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.
And the king stood by a
pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his
testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the
words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.
So the king stood by the
pillar and made a covenant before the LORD to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to carry out the
words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people entered into the covenant.
And as
Josiah turned himself, he
spied the
sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the
sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and
polluted it, according to the
word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these
words.
And as
Josiah turned, he saw the tombs there on the
hillside, and he sent someone to take the bones out of the tombs, and he burned them on the altar to
defile it, according to the
word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God who had
foretold these things.
Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were
spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did
Josiah put away, that he might perform the
words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Furthermore,
Josiah removed the mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this to carry out the
words of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of the LORD.
And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of
Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the
word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.
So Saul died for his
transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the
word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to
enquire of it;
So Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance,
Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to
Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in
Hebron before the LORD; and they
anointed David king over Israel, according to the
word of the LORD by Samuel.
So all the elders of Israel came to the king at
Hebron, where David made a covenant with them before the LORD. And they
anointed him king over Israel, according to the
word of the LORD through Samuel.
These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
Now these were the chiefs of David’s mighty men, who, together with all Israel,
bolstered and strengthened his kingdom, according to the
word of the LORD concerning Israel.
And these are the numbers of the bands that were ready armed to the war, and came to David to
Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the
word of the LORD.
Now these are the numbers of men armed for battle who came to David at
Hebron to turn Saul’s kingdom over to him, in accordance with the
word of the LORD:
And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us:
And he said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if this is of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers in all the land of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites in their cities and pasturelands, so that they may join us.
And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the
staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the
word of the LORD.
And the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.
Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;
Remember His covenant
forever, the
word He ordained for a thousand generations—
And it came to pass the same night, that the
word of God came to
Nathan, saying,
But that night the
word of God came to
Nathan, saying,
Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a
word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?
In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders I appointed to
shepherd My people, ‘Why
haven’t you built Me a house of
cedar?’
According to all these
words, and according to all this vision, so did
Nathan speak unto David.
So
Nathan relayed to David all the
words of this entire vision.
Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.
And now, O LORD, let the
word You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house be established
forever. Do as You have promised,
Nevertheless the king’s
word prevailed against
Joab. Wherefore
Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
Nevertheless, the king’s
word prevailed against
Joab. So
Joab departed and traveled throughout Israel, and then he returned to Jerusalem.
But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s
word was
abominable to
Joab.
But
Joab did not include Levi and Benjamin in the count, because the king’s command was
detestable to him.
Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the
pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore
advise thyself what
word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
between three years of famine, three months of being swept away before your enemies and overtaken by their swords, or three days of the sword of the LORD—days of plague upon the land, with the angel of the LORD
ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should reply to Him who sent me.”
And David went up at the saying of
Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.
So David went up at the
word that
Gad had spoken in the name of the LORD.
But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
but this
word of the LORD came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and
waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My Name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.
For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:
For according to the final instructions of David, the Levites twenty years of age or older were counted,
All these were the sons of Heman the king’s
seer in the
words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
All these sons of Heman the king’s
seer were given him through the promises of God to
exalt him, for God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou
didst deal with David my father, and
didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.
Then Solomon sent
word to
Hiram king of Tyre: “Do for me as you did for my father David when you sent him cedars to build himself a house to live in.
The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
Now then, O LORD God of Israel, let thy
word be
verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.
And now, O LORD, God of Israel, please
confirm what You promised to Your servant David.
And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom:
She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your words and wisdom is true.
Howbeit I believed not their
words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.
But I did not believe the reports until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not half of the greatness of your wisdom was told to me. You have far exceeded the report I heard.
And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
They replied, “If you will be kind to these people and please them by speaking kind
words to them, they will be your servants
forever.”
So the king
hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his
word, which he spake by the hand of
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the LORD might
fulfill the
word that He had spoken through
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam son of Nebat.
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God:
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the
words of the LORD, and returned from going against
Jeroboam.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this
word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the
words of the LORD and turned back from going against
Jeroboam.
And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the
word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some
deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of
Shishak.
When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the
word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, but will soon grant them
deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through
Shishak.
And the rest of the acts of
Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet
Iddo.
Now the rest of the acts of
Abijah, along with his ways and his
words, are written in the Treatise of the Prophet
Iddo.
And when
Asa heard these
words, and the prophecy of
Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the
abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the
porch of the LORD.
When
Asa heard these
words and the prophecy of
Azariah son of
Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the
detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the
portico of the LORD’s temple.
And
Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel,
Enquire, I pray thee, at the
word of the LORD to day.
But
Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the
word of the LORD.”
And the
messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the
words of the prophets declare good to the king with one assent; let thy
word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.
Then the
messenger who had gone to call Micaiah
instructed him, “Behold, with one
accord the
words of the prophets are favorable to the king. So please let your
words be like theirs, and speak
favorably.”
Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.
Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right and on His left.
Then
Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to
Joash, the son of
Jehoahaz, the son of
Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.
Then
Amaziah king of Judah took counsel and sent
word to the king of Israel Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz, the son of
Jehu. “Come, let us meet face to face,” he said.
And they gathered their brethren, and
sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the
words of the LORD, to
cleanse the house of the LORD.
When they had assembled their brothers and consecrated themselves, they went in to
cleanse the house of the LORD, according to the command of the king by the
words of the LORD.
Moreover
Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the
words of David, and of
Asaph the
seer. And they
sang praises with
gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped.
Then King
Hezekiah and his officials ordered the Levites to sing praises to the LORD in the
words of David and of
Asaph the
seer. So they
sang praises with
gladness and bowed their heads and worshiped.
And
Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and
Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, to keep the
passover unto the LORD God of Israel.
Then
Hezekiah sent
word throughout all Israel and Judah, and he also wrote letters to Ephraim and
Manasseh inviting them to come to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem to keep the
Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel.
Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.
Moreover, the power of God was on the people in Judah to give them one heart to obey the command of the king and his officials according to the word of the LORD.
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the
words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.” So the people were strengthened by the
words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
Now the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the
words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, along with his prayer to his God and the
words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, they are indeed written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.
Then Shaphan brought the book to the king and reported, “Your servants are doing all that has been placed in their hands.
And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.
When the king heard the
words of the Law, he
tore his clothes
Go,
enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the
words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the
word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.
“Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for those remaining in Israel and Judah concerning the words in the book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that has been poured out on us because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD by doing all that is written in this book.”
And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to
enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel concerning the
words which thou hast heard;
But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘As for the words that you heard,
Because thine heart was tender, and thou
didst humble
thyself before God, when thou heardest his
words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst
thyself before me, and
didst rend thy clothes, and
weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
because your heart was tender and you humbled
yourself before God when you heard His
words against this place and against its people, and because you have humbled
yourself before Me and you have
torn your clothes and
wept before Me, I have heard you,’ declares the LORD.
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
‘Now I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.
And he went up to the house of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as well as the priests and the Levites—all the people small and great—and in their hearing he read all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.
And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his
testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the
words of the covenant which are written in this book.
So the king stood by the
pillar and made a covenant before the LORD to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to carry out the
words of this covenant that were written in this book.
So kill the
passover, and
sanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the
word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
Slaughter the
Passover lambs,
consecrate yourselves, and make preparations for your fellow countrymen to carry out the
word of the LORD given by Moses.”
Nevertheless
Josiah would not turn his face from him, but
disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and
hearkened not unto the
words of
Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of
Megiddo.
Josiah, however, did not turn away from him; instead, in order to
engage him in battle, he
disguised himself. He did not
listen to Neco’s
words from the mouth of God, but went to fight him on the Plain of
Megiddo.
And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up
betimes, and sending; because he had
compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:
Again and again the LORD, the God of their fathers, sent
word to His people through His messengers because He had
compassion on them and on His dwelling place.
But they
mocked the messengers of God, and
despised his
words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
But they
mocked the messengers of God,
despising His
words and
scoffing at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD against His people was
stirred up beyond remedy.
To fulfil the
word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay
desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil
threescore and ten years.
So the land enjoyed its Sabbath rest all the days of the
desolation, until seventy years were completed, in
fulfillment of the
word of the LORD through Jeremiah.
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the
word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD
stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a
proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

Also I have made a decree, that
whosoever shall alter this
word, let timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be
hanged thereon; and let his house be made a
dunghill for this.
I also decree that if any man interferes with this directive, a beam is to be
torn from his house and raised up, and he is to be impaled on it. And his own house shall be made a pile of
rubble for this

Now this is the copy of the letter that the king
Artaxerxes gave unto
Ezra the priest, the
scribe, even a
scribe of the
words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.
This is the text of the letter King
Artaxerxes had given to
Ezra the priest and
scribe, an
expert in the commandments and statutes of the LORD to Israel:
Then were assembled unto me every one that
trembled at the
words of the God of Israel, because of the
transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat
astonied until the evening sacrifice.
Then
everyone who
trembled at the
words of the God of Israel gathered around me because of the unfaithfulness of the exiles, while I sat there in
horror until the evening offering.
Then arose
Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to
swear that they should do according to this
word. And they
sware.
So
Ezra got up and made the leading priests, Levites, and all Israel take an oath to do what had been said. And they took the oath.
These are the
words of
Nehemiah son of Hacaliah: In the month of Chislev, in the
twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of
Susa,
And it came to pass, when I heard these
words, that I sat down and
wept, and
mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
When I heard these
words, I sat down and
wept. I
mourned for days, fasting and praying before the God of heaven.
Remember, I

Remember, I pray, the
word that You commanded Your servant Moses when You said, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will
scatter you among the nations,
Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
I also told them about the
gracious hand of my God upon me, and what the king had said to me. “Let us start rebuilding,” they replied, and they set their hands to this good work.
And I was very
angry when I heard their cry and these
words.
When I heard their outcry and these complaints, I became extremely
angry,
Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to
rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these

that read: “It is reported among the nations—and Geshem agrees—that you and the Jews are
plotting to revolt, and this is why you are building the wall. According to these reports, you are to become their king,
