So then
because thou art
lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will
spue thee out of my mouth.
So
because you are
lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to
vomit you out of My mouth!
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art
wretched, and
miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
You say, ‘I am rich; I have grown wealthy and need nothing.’ But you do not
realize that you are
wretched,
pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.
And I
wept much,
because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look
thereon.
And I began to
weep bitterly,
because no one was found worthy to open the
scroll or look inside it.
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou
wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
And they
sang a new song: “Worthy are You to take the
scroll and open its seals,
because You were slain, and by Your blood You purchased for God those from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
And the name of the star is called
Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became
wormwood; and many men died of the waters,
because they were made bitter.
The name of the star is
Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter like
wormwood oil, and many people died from the bitter waters.
And I
beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice,
Woe,
woe,
woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the
trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
And as I observed, I heard an eagle flying overhead, calling in a loud voice, “
Woe!
Woe!
Woe to those who dwell on the earth,
because of the
trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the remaining three angels!”
But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they
tread under foot forty and two months.
But
exclude the
courtyard outside the temple. Do not measure it,
because it has been given over to the nations, and they will
trample the holy city for 42 months.
And they that dwell upon the earth shall
rejoice over them, and make
merry, and shall send gifts one to another;
because these two prophets
tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
And those who dwell on the earth will
gloat over them, and will
celebrate and send one another gifts,
because these two prophets had
tormented them.
Saying, We give thee
thanks, O Lord God
Almighty, which art, and
wast, and art to come;
because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
saying: “We give
thanks to You, O Lord God
Almighty, the One who is and who was,
because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign.
Therefore
rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them.
Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath,
because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
Therefore
rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! But
woe to the earth and the sea; with great
fury the devil has come down to you, knowing he has only a short time.”
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it
deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
And he said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come. Worship the One who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and the springs of waters.”
And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city,
because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication.
Then a second angel followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, who has made all the nations drink the wine of the passion of her immorality.”
And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy
sickle, and
reap: for the time is come for thee to
reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
Then another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the One seated on the cloud, “
Swing Your
sickle and
reap,
because the time has come to harvest; for the crop of the earth is ripe.”
And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and
cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp
sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp
sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
Still another angel, with authority over the fire, came from the altar and called out in a loud voice to the angel with the sharp
sickle, “
Swing your sharp
sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the vine of the earth,
because its grapes are ripe.”
And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and
wast, and shalt be,
because thou hast judged thus.
And I heard the angel of the waters say: “Righteous are You, O Holy One, who is and was, because You have brought these judgments.
And
blasphemed the God of heaven
because of their pains and their sores, and
repented not of their deeds.
and
curse the God of heaven for their pains and sores; yet they did not
repent of their deeds.
And there fell upon men a great
hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men
blasphemed God
because of the plague of the
hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
And great hailstones weighing almost a hundred pounds each rained down on them from above. And men
cursed God for the plague of
hail,
because it was so
horrendous.
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
They will make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will triumph over them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and He will be accompanied by His called and chosen and faithful ones.”
And the merchants of the earth shall
weep and
mourn over her; for no man buyeth their
merchandise any more:
And the merchants of the earth will
weep and
mourn over her,
because there is no one left to
buy their
cargo—
Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath
avenged you on her.
Rejoice over her, O heaven, O saints and apostles and prophets,
because God has pronounced for you His judgment against her.
And the light of a
candle shall
shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the
bridegroom and of the
bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy
sorceries were all nations
deceived.
The light of a lamp will never
shine in you again, and the voices of a
bride and
bridegroom will never call out in you again. For your merchants were the great ones of the earth,
because all the nations were
deceived by your
sorcery.”
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God
Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
But I saw no temple in the city,
because the Lord God
Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to
shine in it: for the glory of God did
lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
And the city has no need of sun or moon to
shine on it,
because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp.
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
Its gates will never be shut at the end of the day, because there will be no night there.
And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of prophecy in this book, because the time is near.
Nevertheless the God of their fathers sent by his
messenger to call them back,
because he
spared them and his tabernacle also.
And he shall sit next to
Darius because of his wisdom, and shall be called
Darius his cousin.
Then said the king unto him, Ask what thou
wilt more than is appointed in the writing, and we will give it thee,
because thou art found wisest; and thou shalt sit next me, and shalt be called my cousin.
And they praised the God of their fathers, because he had given them freedom and liberty
And there were gathered unto them out of the other nations of the land, and they erected the altar upon his own place,
because all the nations of the land were at
enmity with them, and
oppressed them; and they offered sacrifices according to the time, and burnt offerings to the Lord both morning and evening.
And they sung with loud voices songs to the praise of the Lord, because his mercy and glory is for ever in all Israel.
Nevertheless the elders of the Jews obtained favour, because the Lord had visited the captivity;
And all the multitude sat
trembling in the broad court of the temple
because of the present foul weather.
Because they understood the words wherein they were
instructed, and for the which they had been assembled.
Because the sins of their fathers are increased in them: for they have forgotten me, and have offered unto strange gods.
And for our sakes
peradventure it is that the floors of the righteous are not filled,
because of the sins of them that dwell upon the earth.
And why? because the speech of these things trembleth and is moved: for it knoweth that the end of these things must be changed.
All this have I spoken before thee, O Lord, because thou madest the world for our sakes
Because for their sakes I made the world: and when Adam
transgressed my statutes, then was decreed that now is done.
For there be many that perish in this life,
because they
despise the law of God that is set before them.
For we and our fathers do
languish of such diseases: but
because of us sinners thou shalt be called
merciful.
Even so perisheth man also, which is formed with thy hands, and is called thine own image,
because thou art like unto him, for whose sake thou hast made all things, and
likened him unto the
husbandman’s seed.
For many great
miseries shall be done to them that in the latter time shall dwell in the world,
because they have walked in great pride.
So I considered the world, and, behold, there was
peril because of the devices that were come into it.
Yet they that received it perished, because they kept not the thing that was sown in them.
But if thou sayest unto me, My
lamentation is not like the earth’s,
because I have lost the fruit of my
womb, which I brought forth with pains, and bare with sorrows;
And I said,
Because thou hast
forsaken me, and yet I did according to thy words, and I went into the field, and, lo, I have seen, and yet see, that I am not able to express.
And, behold, thou sawest her likeness, and
because she
mourned for her son, thou begannest to comfort her: and of these things which have chanced, these are to be opened unto thee.
Then went I forth into the field, giving praise and
thanks greatly unto the most High
because of his wonders which he did in time;
And because he governeth the same, and such things as fall in their seasons: and there I sat three days.
For because of their pride the cities shall be troubled, the houses shall be destroyed, and men shall be afraid.
A man shall have no
pity upon his neighbour, but shall destroy their houses with the sword, and
spoil their goods,
because of the lack of bread, and for great
tribulation.
For now are the plagues come upon the whole earth and ye shall remain in them: for God shall not deliver you,
because ye have
sinned against him.
Woe be unto thee, thou
wretch,
because thou hast made
thyself like unto her; and hast decked thy daughters in
whoredom, that they might please and glory in thy lovers, which have always desired to commit
whoredom with thee.
And the earth shall be laid waste, and the fields thereof shall wax old, and her ways and all her paths shall grow full of thorns, because no man shall travel therethrough.
And the third I gave unto them to whom it was meet, as Debora my father’s mother had commanded me,
because I was left an
orphan by my father.
Because I remembered God with all my heart.
And now thy judgments are many and true: deal with me according to my sins and my fathers’: because we have not kept thy commandments, neither have walked in truth before thee.
Now therefore deal with me as seemeth best unto thee, and command my spirit to be taken from me, that I may be dissolved, and become earth: for it is profitable for me to die rather than to live,
because I have heard false reproaches, and have much sorrow: command therefore that I may now be delivered out of this distress, and go into the
everlasting place: turn not thy face away from me.
Because that she had been married to seven husbands, whom
Asmodeus the evil spirit had killed, before they had
lain with her.
Dost thou not know, said they, that thou hast
strangled thine husbands? thou hast had already seven husbands, neither
wast thou named after any of them.
And Raphael was sent to
heal them both, that is, to scale away the whiteness of
Tobit’s eyes, and to give Sara the daughter of Raguel for a wife to Tobias the son of
Tobit; and to bind
Asmodeus the evil spirit;
because she belonged to Tobias by right of inheritance. The
selfsame time came
Tobit home, and entered into his house, and Sara the daughter of Raguel came down from her upper chamber.
Because that
alms do deliver from death, and suffereth not to come into darkness.
Then
Tobit said, Thou art
welcome, brother; be not now
angry with me,
because I have enquired to know thy tribe and thy family; for thou art my brother, of an
honest and good stock: for I know
Ananias and Jonathas, sons of that great Samaias, as we went together to Jerusalem to worship, and offered the
firstborn, and the tenths of the fruits; and they were not
seduced with the error of our brethren: my brother, thou art of a good stock.
And the
maid is fair and wise: now therefore hear me, and I will speak to her father; and when we return from Rages we will
celebrate the marriage: for I know that Raguel cannot marry her to another according to the law of Moses, but he shall be guilty of death,
because the right of inheritance
doth rather
appertain to thee than to any other.
And now I am the only son of my father, and I am afraid, lest if I go in unto her, I die, as the other before: for a wicked spirit loveth her, which hurteth no body, but those which come unto her; wherefore I also fear lest I die, and bring my father’s and my mother’s life
because of me to the grave with sorrow: for they have no other son to
bury them.
Thou art to be praised
because thou hast had mercy of two that were the only
begotten children of their fathers: grant them mercy, O Lord, and finish their life in health with joy and mercy.
Then
Tobit went out to meet his daughter in law at the gate of Nineve,
rejoicing and praising God: and they which saw him go
marvelled,
because he had received his sight.
But Tobias gave
thanks before them,
because God had mercy on him. And when he came near to Sara his daughter in law, he blessed her, saying, Thou art
welcome, daughter: God be blessed, which hath brought thee unto us, and blessed be thy father and thy mother. And there was joy among all his brethren which were at Nineve.
And now, my son, depart out of Nineve,
because that those things which the prophet
Jonas spake shall surely come to pass.
And thou shalt go against all the west country, because they disobeyed my commandment.
Charging them to keep the passages of the hill country: for by them there was an entrance into
Judea, and it was easy to stop them that would come up,
because the passage was straight, for two men at the most.
And whilst they
sinned not before their God, they
prospered,
because the God that hateth iniquity was with them.
And who art thou, Achior, and the hirelings of Ephraim, that thou hast
prophesied against us as to day, and hast said, that we should not make war with the people of Israel,
because their God will defend them? and who is God but Nabuchodonosor?
For this people of the children of Israel do not trust in their spears, but in the height of the mountains wherein they dwell, because it is not easy to come up to the tops of their mountains.
Thus shalt thou render them an evil reward;
because they rebelled, and met not thy person
peaceably.
Then the children of Israel
cried unto the Lord their God,
because their heart failed, for all their enemies had compassed them round about, and there was no way to escape out from among them.
Now therefore, O brethren, let us
shew an example to our brethren,
because their hearts depend upon us, and the sanctuary, and the house, and the altar, rest upon us.
For this is not the first day wherein thy wisdom is manifested; but from the beginning of thy days all the people have known thy understanding, because the disposition of thine heart is good.
Therefore now pray thou for us,
because thou art a godly woman, and the Lord will send us rain to fill our cisterns, and we shall
faint no more.
And they wondered at her beauty, and
admired the children of Israel
because of her, and every one said to his neighbour, Who would
despise this people, that have among them such women? surely it is not good that one man of them be left who being let go might
deceive the whole earth.
For they have sent some to Jerusalem, because they also that dwell there have done the like, to bring them a licence from the senate.
So
Judith said, I will drink now, my lord,
because my life is
magnified in me this day more than all the days since I was born.
Now when the evening was come, his servants made
haste to depart, and Bagoas shut his tent without, and dismissed the waiters from the presence of his lord; and they went to their beds: for they were all
weary,
because the feast had been long.
And God turn these things to thee for a perpetual praise, to visit thee in good things
because thou hast not
spared thy life for the
affliction of our nation, but hast
revenged our ruin, walking a straight way before our God. And all the people said; So be it, so be it.
But
because none answered, he opened it, and went into the
bedchamber, and found him cast upon the floor dead, and his head was taken from him.
Howbeit Aman the son of Amadathus the Agagite, who was in great honour with the king, sought to
molest Mardocheus and his people
because of the two eunuchs of the king.
All Israel in like manner
cried most earnestly unto the Lord,
because their death was before their eyes.
Because we worshipped their gods: O Lord, thou art righteous.
But ungodly men with their works and words called it to them: for when they thought to have it their friend, they consumed to
nought, and made a covenant with it,
because they are worthy to take part with it.
Therefore let us lie in wait for the righteous;
because he is not for our turn, and he is clean contrary to our doings: he upbraideth us with our
offending the law, and objecteth to our
infamy the transgressings of our education.
Better it is to have no children, and to have virtue: for the
memorial thereof is
immortal:
because it is known with God, and with men.
Because, being ministers of his kingdom, ye have not judged
aright, nor kept the law, nor walked after the counsel of God;
Neither compared I unto her any precious stone, because all gold in respect of her is as a little sand, and silver shall be counted as clay before her.
And I
rejoiced in them all,
because wisdom goeth before them: and I knew not that she was the mother of them.
God hath granted me to speak as I would, and to conceive as is meet for the things that are given me: because it is he that leadeth unto wisdom, and directeth the wise.
But thou hast mercy upon all; for thou canst do all things, and winkest at the sins of men,
because they should
amend.
For thy power is the beginning of righteousness, and
because thou art the Lord of all, it maketh thee to be
gracious unto all.
For being
conversant in his works they search him
diligently, and believe their sight:
because the things are beautiful that are seen.
