Abimelech. Then they piled the branches against the inner
chamber and set it on fire above them, killing
everyone in the tower of
Shechem, about a thousand men and women.

chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.

Now there were men lying in wait,
abiding with her in the
chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee,
Samson. And he
brake the withs, as a thread of
tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.
While the men were hidden in her room, she called out, “
Samson, the Philistines are here!” But he
snapped the bowstrings like a
strand of yarn
seared by a flame. So the source of his strength remained unknown.
Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him
therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee,
Samson. And there were liers in wait
abiding in the

brake them from off his arms like a thread.

Delilah took new ropes,
tied him up with them, and called out, “
Samson, the Philistines are here!” But while the men were hidden in her room, he
snapped the ropes off his arms like they were threads.

Absalom, my son, my son!
The king was
shaken and went up to the gate

Absalom! My son, my son
Absalom! If only I had died instead of you, O
Absalom, my son, my son!”

chambers round about:
Against the walls of the temple and the inner sanctuary, Solomon built a chambered structure around the temple, in which he constructed the side rooms.
The
nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.
The bottom floor was five cubits wide, the middle floor six cubits, and the third floor seven cubits. He also placed
offset ledges around the outside of the temple, so that nothing would be inserted into its walls.
The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.
The entrance to the bottom floor was on the south side of the temple. A
stairway led up to the middle level, and from there to the third floor.

chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of

cedar.

hadad also fled to the city and

Ahaziah fell down through a
lattice in his upper
chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go,
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.
Now
Ahaziah had fallen through the
lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers and
instructed them: “Go inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron, whether I will recover from this injury.”
Let us make a little
chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a
stool, and a
candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
Please let us make a small room
upstairs and put in it a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp for him. Then when he comes to us, he can stay there.”

chamber of

chamberlain, which was in the suburbs, and burned the
chariots of the sun with fire.
And he removed from the entrance to the house of the LORD the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun. They were in the court near the

Josiah burned up the
chariots of the sun.
And the altars that were on the top of the upper
chamber of
Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which
Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and
brake them down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the
brook Kidron.
He pulled down the altars that the kings of Judah had set up on the roof near the upper
chamber of
Ahaz, and the altars that
Manasseh had set up in the two courtyards of the house of the LORD. The king
pulverized them there and threw their dust into the Kidron Valley.

Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the
chambers, and in the
purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
but their duty was to assist the descendants of Aaron with the service of the house of the LORD, being responsible for the courts and
chambers, the
purification of all the holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God,
Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the
porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the
treasuries thereof, and of the upper
chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,
Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the
portico of the temple, its buildings, storehouses, upper rooms, inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat.
And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the
chambers round about, of the
treasuries of the house of God, and of the
treasuries of the dedicated things:
The plans contained everything David had in mind for the courts of the house of the LORD, for all the surrounding rooms, for the
treasuries of the house of God and of the dedicated things,

Hezekiah commanded to prepare
chambers in the house of the LORD; and they prepared them,
Then
Hezekiah commanded them to prepare storerooms in the house of the LORD, and they did so.
Watch ye, and keep them, until ye
weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the
chambers of the house of the LORD.
Guard them carefully until you
weigh them out in the
chambers of the house of the LORD in Jerusalem before the leading priests, Levites, and heads of the
Israelite families.”

Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the

Then
Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and walked to the
chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. And while he stayed there, he
ate no food and
drank no water, because he was
mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
After him repaired Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, another piece. After him repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah over against his chamber.

And that we should bring the firstfruits of our
dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the
chambers of the house of our God; and the
tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the
tithes in all the cities of our
tillage.
Moreover, we will bring to the priests at the storerooms of the house of our God the firstfruits of our
dough, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees, and of our new wine and oil. A tenth of our produce belongs to the Levites, so that they shall receive
tithes in all the towns where we labor.
And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take
tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the
tithe of the
tithes unto the house of our God, to the
chambers, into the
treasure house.
A priest of Aaron’s line is to
accompany the Levites when they collect the tenth, and the Levites are to bring a tenth of these
tithes to the storerooms of the treasury in the house of our God.
For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the
chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the
porters, and the singers: and we will not
forsake the house of our God.
For the Israelites and the Levites are to bring the contributions of grain, new wine, and oil to the storerooms where the articles of the sanctuary are kept and where the ministering priests, the gatekeepers, and the singers stay. Thus we will not neglect the house of our God.”
And at that time were some appointed over the
chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the
tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah
rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.
And on that same day men were appointed over the rooms that housed the supplies, contributions, firstfruits, and
tithes. The portions specified by the Law for the priests and Levites were gathered into these storerooms from the fields of the villages, because Judah
rejoiced over the priests and Levites who were serving.
And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the
chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto
Tobiah:
Now before this, Eliashib the priest, a relative of
Tobiah, had been put in charge of the storerooms of the house of our God
And he had prepared for him a great
chamber, where
aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the
frankincense, and the vessels, and the
tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the
porters; and the offerings of the priests.
and had prepared for
Tobiah a large room where they had previously stored the grain offerings, the
frankincense, the temple articles, and the
tithes of grain, new wine, and oil prescribed for the Levites, singers, and gatekeepers, along with the contributions for the priests.
And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for
Tobiah, in preparing him a
chamber in the courts of the house of God.
to return to Jerusalem. Then I discovered the evil that Eliashib had done on behalf of
Tobiah by providing him a room in the courts of the house of God.
And it
grieved me
sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of
Tobiah out of the
chamber.
And I was greatly displeased and threw all of
Tobiah’s household goods out of the room.
Then I commanded, and they
cleansed the
chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the
frankincense.
Then I ordered that the rooms be
purified, and I had the articles of the house of God restored to them, along with the grain offerings and
frankincense.
On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was
merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven
chamberlains that served in the presence of
Ahasuerus the king,
On the seventh day, when the king’s heart was
merry with wine, he ordered the seven eunuchs who served him—Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carkas—
But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by his
chamberlains: therefore was the king very
wroth, and his anger burned in him.
Queen Vashti, however, refused to come at the king’s command brought by his eunuchs. And the king became
furious, and his anger burned within him.
What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king
Ahasuerus by the
chamberlains?
“According to law,” he asked, “what should be done with Queen Vashti, since she refused to obey the command of King
Xerxes delivered by the eunuchs?”
And let the king
appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto
Shushan the palace, to the house of the women unto the
custody of Hege the king’s
chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for
purification be given them:
and let the king
appoint commissioners in each province of his kingdom to
assemble all the beautiful young women into the
harem at the citadel of
Susa. Let them be placed under the care of Hegai, the king’s
eunuch in charge of the women, and let them be given beauty treatments.
In the evening she went, and on the
morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the
custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s
chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.
She would go there in the evening, and in the morning she would return to a second
harem under the care of Shaashgaz, the king’s
eunuch in charge of the concubines. She would not return to the king unless he delighted in her and summoned her by name.
Now when the turn of
Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of
Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s
chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And
Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
Now
Esther was the daughter of Abihail, the uncle from whom
Mordecai had adopted her as his own daughter. And when it was her turn to go to the king, she did not ask for anything except what Hegai, the king’s trusted official in charge of the
harem, had
advised. And
Esther found favor in the eyes of
everyone who saw her.
In those days, while
Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s
chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were
wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king
Ahasuerus.
When
Esther’s maidens and eunuchs came and told her about
Mordecai, the queen was overcome with distress. She sent clothes for
Mordecai to wear instead of his
sackcloth, but he would not accept them.
Then called
Esther for Hatach, one of the king’s
chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to
Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
Then
Esther summoned Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs appointed to her, and she
dispatched him to
Mordecai to learn what was troubling him and why.
And it was found written, that
Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s
chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king
Ahasuerus.
And there it was found recorded that
Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the eunuchs who guarded the king’s entrance, when they had
conspired to
assassinate King
Xerxes.
And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s
chamberlains, and hasted to bring
Haman unto the
banquet that
Esther had prepared.
While they were still speaking with
Haman, the king’s eunuchs arrived and
rushed him to the
banquet that
Esther had prepared.
And Harbonah, one of the
chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the
gallows fifty cubits high, which
Haman had made for
Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of
Haman. Then the king said,
Hang him
thereon.
Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs attending the king, said: “There is a
gallows fifty cubits high at
Haman’s house. He had it built for
Mordecai, who gave the report that saved the king.” “
Hang him on it!” declared the king.
He is the Maker of the Bear and
Orion, of the
Pleiades and the constellations of the south.
Out of the south cometh the
whirlwind: and cold out of the north.
The
tempest comes from its
chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds.
Which is as a
bridegroom coming out of his
chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
All glorious is the princess in her
chamber; her
gown is
embroidered with gold.
Who layeth the beams of his
chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his
chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
laying the beams of His
chambers in the waters above, making the clouds His
chariot, walking on the wings of the wind.
He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
He waters the mountains from His chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of His works.
Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.
Their land
teemed with frogs, even in their royal
chambers.
Her house is the way to
hell, going down to the
chambers of death.
Her house is the road to
Sheol, descending to the
chambers of death.
And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
through knowledge its rooms are filled with every precious and beautiful
treasure.
Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his
chambers: we will be
glad and
rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.
Take me away with you—let us
hurry! May the king bring me to his
chambers. We will
rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. It is only right that they
adore you.
It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.
I had just passed them when I found the one I love. I held him and would not let go until I had brought him to my mother’s house, to the chamber of the one who conceived me.
Come, my people, enter thou into thy
chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide
thyself as it were for a little moment, until the
indignation be overpast.
Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut your doors behind you. Hide
yourselves a little while until the wrath has passed.
Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his
chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
“
Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms without justice, who makes his countrymen serve without pay, and fails to pay their wages,
That saith, I will build me a wide house and large
chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is cieled with
cedar, and painted with
vermilion.
who says, ‘I will build myself a great palace, with
spacious upper rooms.’ So he cuts windows in it, panels it with
cedar, and paints it with
vermilion.
Go unto the house of the
Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the
chambers, and give them wine to drink.
“Go to the house of the
Rechabites, speak to them, and bring them to one of the
chambers of the house of the LORD to offer them a drink of wine.”
And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:
and I brought them into the house of the LORD, to a
chamber occupied by the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah, a man of God. This room was near the
chamber of the officials, which was above the
chamber of Maaseiah son of Shallum the
doorkeeper.
Then read
Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the
chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the
scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house, in the ears of all the people.
From the
chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the
scribe, which was in the upper
courtyard at the opening of the New Gate of the house of the LORD,
Baruch read from the
scroll the words of Jeremiah in the hearing of all the people.
Then he went down into the king’s house, into the
scribe’s
chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the
scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and
Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
he went down to the
scribe’s
chamber in the king’s palace, where all the officials were sitting: Elishama the
scribe, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan,
Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the other officials.
And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the
chamber of Elishama the
scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
So the officials went to the king in the
courtyard. And having stored the
scroll in the
chamber of Elishama the
scribe, they reported everything to the king.
So the king sent Jehudi to
fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the
scribe’s
chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
Then the king sent Jehudi to get the
scroll, and he took it from the
chamber of Elishama the
scribe. And Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king and all the officials who were standing beside him.
Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the
chambers of his
imagery? for they say, The LORD
seeth us not; the LORD hath
forsaken the earth.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the
shrine of his own
idol? For they are saying, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has
forsaken the land.’”
Thou therefore, son of man,
prophesy, and
smite thine hands together, and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which entereth into their privy
chambers.
‘So then, son of man,
prophesy and strike your hands together. Let the sword strike two times, even three. It is a sword that slays, a sword of great slaughter closing in on every side!
And every little
chamber was one reed long, and one reed broad; and between the little
chambers were five cubits; and the
threshold of the gate by the
porch of the gate within was one reed.
Each gate
chamber was one rod long and one rod wide, and there were five cubits between the gate
chambers. The inner
threshold of the gate by the
portico facing inward was one rod deep.
And the little chambers of the gate eastward were three on this side, and three on that side; they three were of one measure: and the posts had one measure on this side and on that side.
There were three gate chambers on each side of the east gate, each with the same measurements, and the gateposts on either side also had the same measurements.
The space also before the little
chambers was one
cubit on this side, and the space was one
cubit on that side: and the little
chambers were six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.
In front of each gate
chamber was a wall one
cubit high, and the gate
chambers were six cubits square.
He measured then the gate from the roof of one little chamber to the roof of another: the breadth was five and twenty cubits, door against door.
Then he measured the
gateway from the roof of one gate
chamber to the roof of the opposite one; the distance was twenty-five cubits from
doorway to
doorway.
And there were narrow windows to the little chambers, and to their posts within the gate round about, and likewise to the arches: and windows were round about inward: and upon each post were palm trees.
The gate
chambers and their side pillars had
beveled windows all around the inside of the
gateway. The
porticos also had windows all around on the inside. Each side
pillar was decorated with palm trees.
Then brought he me into the outward court, and, lo, there were
chambers, and a
pavement made for the court round about: thirty
chambers were upon the
pavement.
Then he brought me into the outer court, and there were
chambers and a
pavement laid out all around the court. Thirty
chambers faced the
pavement,
And the little chambers thereof were three on this side and three on that side; and the posts thereof and the arches thereof were after the measure of the first gate: the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.
Its three gate
chambers on each side, its side pillars, and its
portico all had the same measurements as the first gate: fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, according to these measures: and there were windows in it and in the arches thereof round about: it was fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad.
Its gate
chambers, side pillars, and
portico had the same measurements as the others. Both the
gateway and its
portico had windows all around; it was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, were according to these measures: and there were windows therein and in the arches thereof round about: it was fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad.
Its gate
chambers, side pillars, and
portico had the same measurements as the others. Both the
gateway and its
portico had windows all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
The little chambers thereof, the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, and the windows to it round about: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.
as did its gate
chambers, side pillars, and
portico. It also had windows all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
And the
chambers and the
entries thereof were by the posts of the gates, where they washed the burnt offering.
There was a
chamber with a
doorway by the
portico in each of the inner gateways. There the burnt offering was to be washed.
And without the inner gate were the chambers of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and their prospect was toward the south: one at the side of the east gate having the prospect toward the north.
Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, were two chambers, one beside the north gate and facing south, and another beside the south gate and facing north.
And he said unto me, This chamber, whose prospect is toward the south, is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the house.
Then the man said to me: “The chamber that faces south is for the priests who keep charge of the temple,
And the
chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of
Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the LORD to minister unto him.
and the
chamber that faces north is for the priests who keep charge of the altar. These are the sons of
Zadok, the only Levites who may approach the LORD to minister before Him.”
After he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the breadth of every side chamber, four cubits, round about the house on every side.
Next he measured the wall of the temple to be six cubits thick, and the width of each side room around the temple was four cubits.
And the side chambers were three, one over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which was of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might have hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house.
The side rooms were arranged one above another in three levels of thirty rooms each. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports would not be fastened into the wall of the temple itself.
And there was an
enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side
chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was still upward, and so increased from the lowest
chamber to the highest by the midst.
The side rooms surrounding the temple
widened at each successive level, because the structure surrounding the temple ascended by stages corresponding to the narrowing of the temple wall as it rose upward. And so a
stairway went up from the lowest story to the highest, through the middle one.
I saw also the height of the house round about: the foundations of the side chambers were a full reed of six great cubits.
I saw that the temple had a raised base all around it, forming the foundation of the side rooms. It was the full length of a rod, six long cubits.
The thickness of the wall, which was for the side chamber without, was five cubits: and that which was left was the place of the side chambers that were within.
The outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits thick, and the open area between the side rooms of the temple
And between the chambers was the wideness of twenty cubits round about the house on every side.
and the outer chambers was twenty cubits wide all around the temple.
And the doors of the side chambers were toward the place that was left, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south: and the breadth of the place that was left was five cubits round about.
The side rooms opened into this area, with one entrance on the north and another on the south. The open area was five cubits wide all around.
