proclaim in the

Absalom.
The man replied, “Even if a thousand shekels of silver were

audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.

hearing of our God, keep and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.

aloud in the
hearing of the people, and in it they found the passage stating that no
Ammonite or
Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God,
Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
Surely you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard these very words:
I have heard of thee by the
hearing of the ear: but now mine eye
seeth thee.
My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You.
On
hearing it, God was
furious and rejected Israel completely.
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
Ears that hear and eyes that see— the LORD has made them both.
He that turneth away his ear from
hearing the law, even his prayer shall be
abomination.
All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
All things are
wearisome, more than one can describe; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear content with
hearing.
And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
And He replied: “Go and tell this people, ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
And He will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what His eyes see, and He will not decide by what His ears hear,
Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.
Therefore my body is filled with
anguish. Pain grips me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am
bewildered to hear, I am dismayed to see.
And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be
purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
The LORD of Hosts has revealed in my
hearing: “Until your dying day, this sin of yours will never be
atoned for,” says the Lord GOD of Hosts.
He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;
He who walks righteously and speaks with
sincerity, who refuses gain from
extortion, whose hand never takes a
bribe, who stops his ears against
murderous plots and shuts his eyes
tightly against evil—
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto
Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the
Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the
Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in
Aramaic, since we understand it. Do not speak to us in Hebrew in the
hearing of the people on the wall.”
And it came to pass, when king
Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with
sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
On
hearing this report, King
Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on
sackcloth, and entered the house of the LORD.
And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of
Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to
Hezekiah, saying,
The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.
Yet the children of your
bereavement will say in your
hearing, ‘This place is too small for us; make room for us to live here.’
Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine
espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
“Go and
proclaim in the
hearing of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a
bride, how you followed Me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.
But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon
yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
But know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon
yourselves, upon this city, and upon its residents; for truly the LORD has sent me to speak all these words in your
hearing.”
Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people;
Nevertheless,
listen now to this message I am speaking in your
hearing and in the
hearing of all the people.
Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
so you are to go to the house of the LORD on a day of fasting, and in the
hearing of the people you are to read the words of the LORD from the
scroll you have written at my
dictation. Read them in the
hearing of all the people of Judah who are coming from their cities.
Then read
Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the
scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house, in the ears of all the people.
From the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the
scribe, which was in the upper
courtyard at the opening of the New Gate of the house of the LORD,
Baruch read from the
scroll the words of Jeremiah in the
hearing of all the people.
Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when
Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

scroll in the
hearing of the people.
Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto
Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So
Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
Then all the officials sent word to
Baruch through Jehudi son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, “Bring the
scroll that you read in the
hearing of the people, and come here.” So
Baruch son of Neriah took the
scroll and went to them.
And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So
Baruch read it in their ears.
“Please sit down,” they said, “and read it in our
hearing.” So
Baruch read it in their
hearing.
So the king sent Jehudi to
fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the
scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
Then the king sent Jehudi to get the
scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the
scribe. And Jehudi read it in the
hearing of the king and all the officials who were standing beside him.
Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
Yet in
hearing all these words, the king and his servants did not become
frightened or
tear their garments.
And to the others he said in mine
hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and
smite: let not your eye
spare, neither have ye
pity:
And as I
listened, He said to the others, “Follow him through the city and start killing; do not show
pity or
spare anyone!
As for the wheels, it was
cried unto them in my
hearing, O wheel.
I heard the wheels being called “the
whirling wheels.”
Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the
banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:

banquet hall. “O king, may you live
forever!” she said. “Do not let your thoughts
terrify you, or your face grow pale.
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a
thirst for water, but of
hearing the words of the LORD:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord GOD, when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or a
thirst for water, but a famine of
hearing the words of the LORD.
But they refused to
hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.
But they refused to pay attention and turned a
stubborn shoulder; they stopped up their ears from
hearing.
But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
This is why I speak to them in parables: ‘Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.’
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of
hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should
heal them.
For this people’s heart has grown
callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would
heal them.’
When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance.
On hearing this, Jesus told them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and
hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be
forgiven them.
so that, ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever
hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be
forgiven.’”
And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the
synagogue: and many
hearing him were
astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the
synagogue, and many who heard Him were
astonished. “Where did this man get these ideas?” they asked. “What is this wisdom He has been given? And how can He perform such miracles?
And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
Finally, after three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers,
listening to them and asking them questions.
And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
and He began by saying, “
Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your
hearing.”
And all they in the
synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
Now when he had ended all his sayings in the
audience of the people, he entered into
Capernaum.
When Jesus had concluded His discourse in the
hearing of the people, He went to
Capernaum.
And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
He replied, “The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, ‘though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have
treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
On
hearing this, Jesus told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell everything you own and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
Then in the
audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
In the hearing of all the people, Jesus said to His disciples,
Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a difficult teaching. Who can accept it?”
Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
On hearing these words, some of the people said, “This is truly the Prophet.”
Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
“Does our law
convict a man without first
hearing from him to determine what he has done?”
When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
So on
hearing that
Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was for two days,
And
Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
On
hearing these words,
Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened.
When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they
gnashed on him with their teeth.
And the people with one
accord gave
heed unto those things which Philip spake,
hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
The crowds gave their undivided attention to Philip’s message and to the signs they saw him perform.
And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless. They heard the voice but did not see
anyone.
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
On hearing this, the crowd and city officials were greatly disturbed.
(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
Now all the Athenians and foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing more than
hearing and
articulating new ideas.
And Crispus, the chief ruler of the
synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the
Corinthians hearing believed, and were
baptized.
Crispus, the
synagogue leader, and his whole household believed in the Lord. And many of the
Corinthians who heard the message believed and were
baptized.
When they heard this, they were
baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
On
hearing this, they were
baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
When the
centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take
heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.
On
hearing this, the
centurion went and reported it to the commander. “What are you going to do?” he said. “This man is a Roman citizen.”
And when
Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he
deferred them, and said, When
Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the
uttermost of your matter.
Then
Felix, who was well informed about the Way,
adjourned the
hearing and said, “When
Lysias the commander comes, I will decide your case.”
But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar.
But when Paul appealed to be held over for the decision of the Emperor, I ordered that he be held until I could send him to Caesar.”
And on the
morrow, when
Agrippa was come, and
Bernice, with great
pomp, and was entered into the place of
hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at
Festus’ commandment Paul was brought forth.
The next day
Agrippa and
Bernice came with great
pomp and entered the
auditorium, along with the commanders and leading men of the city. And
Festus ordered that Paul be brought in.
But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
But we consider your views worth hearing, because we know that people everywhere are speaking against this sect.”
Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:
‘Go to this people and say, “You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”
For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of
hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should
heal them.
For this people’s heart has grown
callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would
heal them.’
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Does God
lavish His Spirit on you and work miracles among you because you practice the law, or because you hear and believe?
Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints.
Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain, because you are dull of hearing.
(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and
hearing,
vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
(for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was
tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)—
But when they had recovered him, he fell at
Judith’s feet, and reverenced her, and said, Blessed art thou in all the tabernacles of Juda, and in all nations, which
hearing thy name shall be
astonished.
Nevertheless thy saints had a very great light, whose voice they hearing, and not seeing their shape, because they also had not suffered the same things, they counted them happy.
And
Baruch did read the words of this book in the
hearing of Jechonias the son of
Joachim king of Juda, and in the ears of all the people that came to hear the book,
And in the hearing of the nobles, and of the king’s sons, and in the hearing of the elders, and of all the people, from the lowest unto the highest, even of all them that dwelt at Babylon by the river Sud.
Since the day that the Lord brought our forefathers out of the land of Egypt, unto this present day, we have been
disobedient unto the Lord our God, and we have been
negligent in not
hearing his voice.
