And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to
complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.

thereon, and
rebuke it.
And David went out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in peace to

help, whether with many, or with them that have no power:
help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
Then
Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to
help the powerless against the mighty.
Help us, O LORD our God, for we
rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do not let a mere

confront him and said to King
Jehoshaphat, “Should you
help the wicked and love those who
hate the LORD? Because of this, the wrath of the LORD is upon you.

If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or
pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our
affliction, then thou
wilt hear and
help.
‘If
disaster comes upon us—whether sword or judgment, plague or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear us and save us.’
For the children of
Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount
Seir, utterly to
slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of
Seir, every one
helped to destroy another.
The

Seir,
devoting them to destruction. And when they had made an end to the inhabitants of

But if thou
wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to

At that time did king
Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to
help him.
At that time King
Ahaz sent for
help from the king of Assyria.
For
Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he
helped him not.
Although
Ahaz had taken a portion from the house of the LORD, from the royal palace, and from the princes and had presented it to the king of Assyria, it did not
help him.
For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which
smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria
help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may
help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
Since Damascus had defeated him, he sacrificed to their gods and said, “Because the gods of the kings of
Aram have
helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may
help me.” But these gods were the
downfall of

But the priests were too few, so that they could not
flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did
help them, till the work was ended, and until the other priests had
sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more upright in heart to
sanctify themselves than the priests.
However, since there were not enough priests to skin all the burnt offerings, their
Levite brothers
helped them until the work was finished and until the priests had been consecrated. For the Levites had been more
diligent in
consecrating themselves than the priests had been.

With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to
help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of

help us and to fight our battles.” So the people were strengthened by the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
And
whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place
help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the

And let every
survivor, wherever he lives, be assisted by the men of that region with silver, gold, goods, and

helping them.
For I was
ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and
horsemen to
help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that
forsake him.
For I was
ashamed to ask the king for an
escort of soldiers and
horsemen to protect us from our enemies on the road, since we had told him, “The hand of our God is
gracious to all who seek Him, but His great anger is against all who
forsake Him.”
Only
Jonathan the son of
Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the

Levite, opposed this plan.)

deputies, and officers of the king,

helped the Jews, because the fear of
Mordecai had fallen upon them.
Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?
Is there any help within me now that success is driven from me?
For now ye are no thing; ye see my casting down, and are afraid.
For now you are of no help; you see terror, and you are afraid.
Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have
erred.
Teach me, and I will be silent.
Help me understand how I have
erred.
Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud
helpers do
stoop under him.
God does not restrain His anger; the
helpers of
Rahab cower beneath Him.
O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
O earth, do not cover my blood; may my cry for help never be laid to rest.
Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry
aloud, but there is no judgment.
Though I cry out, ‘Violence!’ I get no
response; though I call for
help, there is no justice.
How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
“How you have helped the powerless and saved the arm that is feeble!
Because I delivered the poor that
cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to
help him.
because I
rescued the poor who
cried out and the fatherless who had no
helper.
They
mar my path, they set forward my
calamity, they have no
helper.
They
tear up my path; they profit from my destruction, with no one to restrain them.
I cry unto thee, and thou
dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not.
I cry out to You for help, but You do not answer; when I stand up, You merely look at me.
Howbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
Yet no one stretches out his hand to a ruined man when he
cries for
help in his distress.
I went
mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I
cried in the congregation.
I go about
blackened, but not by the sun. I stand up in the assembly and cry for
help.
If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:
if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless because I saw that I had support in the gate,
But the hypocrites in heart
heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.
The godless in heart
harbor resentment; even when He binds them, they do not cry for
help.
Many there be which say of my soul, There is no
help for him in God.
Selah.
Many say of me, “God will not deliver him.”
Selah He sitteth in the
lurking places of the villages: in the secret places
doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are
privily set against the poor.
He lies in wait near the villages; in
ambush he slays the innocent; his eyes watch in
stealth for the
helpless.
Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand:
forget not the humble.
Arise, O LORD! Lift up Your hand, O God! Do not
forget the
helpless.
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
But You have regarded trouble and grief; You see to repay it by Your hand. The
victim entrusts himself to You; You are the
helper of the fatherless.
