For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth
himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to
enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
For when any
Israelite or any foreigner dwelling in Israel separates
himself from Me, sets up idols in his heart, and puts a wicked
stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of Me, I the LORD will answer him Myself.
Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day.
“Son of man, write down
today’s date, for on this very day the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that
Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking
vengeance, and hath greatly
offended, and
revenged himself upon them;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because
Edom acted vengefully against the house of Judah, and in so doing
incurred grievous guilt,
It is for the prince; the prince, he shall sit in it to eat bread before the LORD; he shall enter by the way of the
porch of that gate, and shall go out by the way of the same.
Only the prince
himself may sit inside the
gateway to eat in the presence of the LORD. He must enter by way of the
portico of the
gateway and go out the same way.”
And they shall come at no dead person to
defile themselves: but for father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister that hath had no husband, they may
defile themselves.
A priest must not
defile himself by going near a dead person. However, for a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, a brother, or an unmarried sister, he may do so,
and after he is
cleansed, he must count off seven days for
himself.
And upon that day shall the prince prepare for
himself and for all the people of the land a
bullock for a sin offering.
On that day the prince shall provide a bull as a sin offering for himself and for all the people of the land.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not
defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he
drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not
defile himself.
But Daniel made up his mind that he would not
defile himself with the king’s food or wine. So he asked the chief official for permission not to
defile himself.
Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
Soon, by his extraordinary spirit, Daniel distinguished
himself among the administrators and satraps. So the king
planned to set him over the whole kingdom.
Then the king, when he heard these words, was
sore displeased with
himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
As soon as the king heard this, he was deeply distressed and set his mind on delivering Daniel, and he labored until
sundown to
rescue him.
Yea, he
magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
It
magnified itself, even to the Prince of the host; it removed His daily sacrifice and overthrew the place of His sanctuary.
And through his policy also he shall cause craft to
prosper in his hand; and he shall
magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
Through his craft and by his hand, he will cause
deceit to
prosper, and in his own mind he will make
himself great. In a time of peace he will destroy many, and he will even stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be broken off, but not by human hands.
And after
threescore and two weeks shall
Messiah be cut off, but not for
himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Then after the sixty-two weeks the
Messiah will be cut off and will have nothing. Then the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood, and until the end there will be war; desolations have been decreed.
But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.
The
invader will do as he pleases, and no one will stand against him. He will establish
himself in the Beautiful Land, with destruction in his hand.
And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall
exalt himself, and
magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall
prosper till the
indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
Then the king will do as he pleases and will
exalt and
magnify himself above every god, and he will speak
monstrous things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been decreed must be accomplished.
Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall
magnify himself above all.
He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers, nor for the one desired by women, nor for any other god, because he will
magnify himself above them all.
They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.
They go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD, but they do not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from them.
Ephraim, he hath mixed
himself among the people; Ephraim is a
cake not turned.
Ephraim mixes with the nations; Ephraim is an unturned
cake.
For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild
ass alone by
himself: Ephraim hath
hired lovers.
For they have gone up to Assyria like a wild
donkey on its own. Ephraim has
hired lovers.
Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
Israel was a
luxuriant vine, yielding fruit for
himself. The more his fruit increased, the more he increased the altars. The better his land produced, the better he made the sacred pillars.
The sorrows of a
travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
Labor pains come upon him, but he is an unwise son. When the time arrives, he fails to present
himself at the opening of the
womb.
Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not
strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver
himself:
Escape will fail the swift, the strong will not prevail by his strength, and the mighty will not save his life.
Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself: neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself.
The archer will not stand his ground, the fleet of foot will not escape, and the
horseman will not save his life.
The Lord GOD hath
sworn by
himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I
abhor the
excellency of Jacob, and
hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
The Lord GOD has
sworn by
Himself—the LORD, the God of Hosts, has declared: “I
abhor Jacob’s pride and
detest his citadels, so I will deliver up the city and everything in it.”
For word came unto the king of
Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his
robe from him, and covered him with
sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
When word reached the king of
Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal
robe, covered
himself with
sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
So
Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a
booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
Then
Jonah left the city and sat down east of it, where he made
himself a shelter and sat in its shade to see what would happen to the city.
And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a
vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of
Jonah, that he
fainted, and wished in
himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
As the sun was rising, God appointed a
scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on
Jonah’s head so that he grew
faint and wished to die, saying, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as
hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:
and wealth indeed betrays him. He is an
arrogant man never at rest. He enlarges his
appetite like
Sheol, and like Death, he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to
himself and collects all the peoples as his own.
Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a
taunting proverb against him, and say,
Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth
himself with thick clay!
Will not all of these take up a
taunt against him, speaking with
mockery and
derision: ‘
Woe to him who amasses what is not his and makes
himself rich with many loans! How long will this go on?’
Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy
habitation.
Be silent before the LORD, all people, for He has
roused Himself from His holy dwelling.”
That thine
alms may be in secret: and thy Father which
seeth in secret
himself shall reward thee openly.
so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
Himself took our
infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
This was to
fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took on our
infirmities and carried our diseases.”
But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew
himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he
healed them all;
Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Large crowds followed Him, and He
healed them all,
And if
Satan cast out
Satan, he is divided against
himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
If
Satan drives out
Satan, he is divided against
himself. How then can his kingdom stand?
Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and dwell there; and the final
plight of that man is worse than the first. So will it be with this wicked generation.”
Yet hath he not root in
himself, but dureth for a while: for when
tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is
offended.
But since he has no root, he remains for only a season. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
After He had sent them away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone,
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Then Jesus told His disciples, “If
anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny
himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
Whosoever therefore shall humble
himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Therefore,
whoever humbles
himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Then
Judas, which had
betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned,
repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
When
Judas, who had
betrayed Him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with
remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.
And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and
hanged himself.
So
Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and
hanged himself.
He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
“He saved others, but He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:
When it was evening, there came a rich man from
Arimathea named Joseph, who
himself was a disciple of Jesus.
But Jesus withdrew
himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from
Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,
So Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea, accompanied by a large crowd from
Galilee,
Judea,
And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.
When His family heard about this, they went out to take
custody of Him, saying, “He is out of His mind.”
And if
Satan rise up against
himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
And if
Satan is divided and rises against
himself, he cannot stand; his end has come.
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
Night and day in the tombs and in the mountains he kept crying out and cutting himself with stones.
And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
At once Jesus was aware that power had gone out from Him. Turning to the crowd, He asked, “Who touched My garments?”
For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.
For Herod himself had ordered that John be arrested and bound and imprisoned, on account of his brother Philip’s wife Herodias, whom Herod had married.
And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them,
Whosoever will come after me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Then Jesus called the crowd to Him along with His disciples, and He told them, “If
anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny
himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
and to love Him with all your heart and with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your
neighbor as
yourself, which is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
For David
himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy
footstool.
Speaking by the Holy Spirit, David himself declared: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet.”’
David therefore
himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him
gladly.
David
himself calls Him ‘Lord.’ So how can He be David’s son?” And the large crowd
listened to Him with delight.
And Peter followed him
afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed
himself at the fire.
Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the
courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the officers and warmed
himself by the fire.
And when she saw Peter warming
himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also
wast with Jesus of
Nazareth.
and saw him warming
himself there. She looked at Peter and said, “You also were with Jesus the
Nazarene.”
Likewise also the chief priests
mocking said among themselves with the
scribes, He saved others;
himself he cannot save.
In the same way, the chief priests and
scribes mocked Him among themselves, saying, “He saved others, but He cannot save
Himself!
Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto
Pilate, and
craved the body of Jesus.
Joseph of
Arimathea, a prominent Council member who
himself was waiting for the kingdom of God, boldly went to
Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus.
And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
Jesus Himself was about thirty years old when He began His ministry. He was regarded as the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,
And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
Yet He frequently withdrew to the wilderness to pray.
And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when
himself was an
hungred, and they which were with him;
Jesus replied, “Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were
hungry?
Now when the
Pharisee which had
bidden him saw it, he spake within
himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a
sinner.
When the
Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he said to
himself, “If this man were a prophet, He would know who this is and what kind of woman is touching Him—for she is a
sinner!”
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Then Jesus said to all of them, “If
anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny
himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet lose or
forfeit his very self?
After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place,
whither he
himself would come.
After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two
ahead of Him to every town and place He was about to visit.
But he, willing to
justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
If
Satan also be divided against
himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through
Beelzebub.
If
Satan is divided against
himself, how can his kingdom stand? After all, you say that I drive out demons by Beelzebul.
Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and dwell there. And the final
plight of that man is worse than the first.”
And he thought within
himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to
bestow my fruits?
So he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, since I have nowhere to store my crops?’
So is he that layeth up
treasure for
himself, and is not rich toward God.
This is how it will be for
anyone who stores up
treasure for
himself but is not rich toward God.”
Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching:
verily I say unto you, that he shall
gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress
himself to serve and will have them
recline at the table, and he
himself will come and wait on them.
And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
That servant who knows his master’s will but does not get ready or follow his instructions will be beaten with many blows.
For
everyone who exalts
himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles
himself will be
exalted.”
And he went and joined
himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed
swine.
So he went and
hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed the pigs.
And when he came to
himself, he said, How many
hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to
spare, and I perish with hunger!
Finally he came to his senses and said, ‘How many of my father’s
hired servants have
plenty of food? But here I am,
starving to death!
The
manager said to
himself, ‘What shall I do, now that my master is taking away my position? I am too weak to
dig and too
ashamed to
beg.
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect men,
The
Pharisee stood and prayed thus with
himself, God, I
thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this
publican.
The
Pharisee stood by
himself and prayed, ‘God, I
thank You that I am not like the other men—swindlers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax
collector.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth
himself shall be
abased; and he that humbleth
himself shall be
exalted.
I tell you, this man, rather than the
Pharisee, went home justified. For
everyone who exalts
himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles
himself will be
exalted.”
He said therefore, A certain
nobleman went into a far country to receive for
himself a kingdom, and to return.
So He said, “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to lay claim to his
kingship and then return.
And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
For David himself says in the book of Psalms: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand
And they began to
accuse him, saying, We found this fellow
perverting the nation, and
forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he
himself is Christ a King.
And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
And learning that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself was in Jerusalem at that time.
And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them
derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save
himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
The people stood watching, and the rulers
sneered at Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save
Himself if He is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.”
(The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
who had not consented to their decision or action. He was from the
Judean town of
Arimathea, and was waiting for the kingdom of God.
Then arose Peter, and ran unto the
sepulchre; and
stooping down, he
beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in
himself at that which was come to pass.
Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. And after bending down and seeing only the linen cloths, he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
And as they talked and
deliberated, Jesus
Himself came up and walked along with them.
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he
expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning
himself.
And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was written in all the Scriptures about Himself.
And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
While they were describing these events, Jesus Himself stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
He
himself was not the Light, but he came to
testify about the Light.
No man hath seen God at any time; the only
begotten Son, which is in the
bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
But Jesus did not
entrust Himself to them, for He knew them all.
(Though Jesus
himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
(although it was not Jesus who
baptized, but His disciples),
Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and
drank thereof
himself, and his children, and his cattle?
Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well and
drank from it
himself, as did his sons and his
livestock?”
For Jesus
himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
Now He
Himself had
testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.
So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
Then the father realized that this was the very hour in which Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” And he and all his household believed.
And he that was
healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed
himself away, a multitude being in that place.
But the man who was
healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had
slipped away while the crowd was there.
Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
Because of this, the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.
Then answered Jesus and said unto them,
Verily,
verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of
himself, but what he
seeth the Father do: for what things
soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
So Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself, unless He sees the Father doing it. For whatever the Father does, the Son also does.
