And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the
magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could
interpret them unto Pharaoh.
In the morning his spirit was troubled, so he summoned all the
magicians and wise men of Egypt. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could
interpret them for him.
And the thin ears
devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the
magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.
And the thin heads of grain
swallowed the seven
plump ones. I told this dream to the
magicians, but no one could explain it to me.”
Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.
But Pharaoh called the wise men and sorcerers and magicians of Egypt, and they also did the same things by their magic arts.
And the
magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, neither did he
hearken unto them; as the LORD had said.
But the
magicians of Egypt did the same things by their
magic arts. So Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not
listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.
And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
But the
magicians did the same thing by their
magic arts, and they also brought frogs up
onto the land of Egypt.
And the
magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth
lice, but they could not: so there were
lice upon man, and upon beast.
The magicians tried to produce gnats using their magic arts, but they could not. And the gnats remained on man and beast.
Then the
magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
“This is the finger of God,” the
magicians said to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not
listen to them, just as the LORD had said.
And the
magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the
boil was upon the
magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.
The magicians could not stand before Moses, because the boils had broken out on them and on all the Egyptians.
Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.
So the five men departed and came to Laish, where they saw that the people were living securely, like the Sidonians,
tranquil and
unsuspecting. There was nothing lacking in the land and no
oppressive ruler. And they were far away from the Sidonians and had no alliance with
anyone.
And thou,
Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set
magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.
And you,
Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God which you possess, are to
appoint magistrates and judges to judge all the people west of the Euphrates—all who know the laws of your God. And you are to teach these laws to
anyone who does not know them.
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe to the women that
sew pillows to all armholes, and make
kerchiefs upon the head of every
stature to
hunt souls! Will ye
hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?
and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says:
Woe to the women who
sew magic charms on their wrists and make veils for the heads of people of every height, in order to
ensnare their souls. Will you
ensnare the souls of My people but preserve your own?
Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your
pillows,
wherewith ye there
hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will
tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye
hunt to make them fly.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: See, I am against the
magic charms with which you
ensnare souls like birds, and I will
tear them from your arms. So I will free the souls you have ensnared like birds.
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom.
Then the king commanded to call the
magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to
shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
So the king gave orders to
summon the
magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers to explain his dreams. When they came and stood before the king,
The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can
shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any
magician, or
astrologer, or
Chaldean.
The astrologers answered the king, “No one on earth can do what the king requests! No king, however great and powerful, has ever asked anything like this of any
magician,
enchanter, or
astrologer.
Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the
magicians, the soothsayers,
shew unto the king;
Daniel answered the king, “No wise man,
enchanter, medium, or
magician can explain to the king the
mystery of which he inquires.
Then
Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the
dedication of the image which
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Then King
Nebuchadnezzar sent word to
assemble the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges,
magistrates, and all the other officials of the provinces to attend the
dedication of the statue he had set up.
Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the
dedication of the image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that
Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges,
magistrates, and all the rulers of the provinces assembled for the
dedication of the statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it.
Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
When the
magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners came in, I told them the dream, and they could not
interpret it for me.
O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.
“O Belteshazzar, chief of the
magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no
mystery baffles you. So explain to me the visions I saw in my dream, and their interpretation.
There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king
Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the
magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the days of your father he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King
Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the
magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Your own father, the king,
Now when Jesus was born in
Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
After Jesus was born in
Bethlehem in
Judea, during the time of King Herod,
Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem,
Then Herod, when he had
privily called the wise men, enquired of them
diligently what time the star appeared.
Then Herod called the Magi secretly and learned from them the exact time the star had appeared.
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and
flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
When the
Magi had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and
flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.”
Then Herod, when he saw that he was
mocked of the wise men, was exceeding
wroth, and sent forth, and
slew all the children that were in
Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had
diligently enquired of the wise men.
When Herod saw that he had been outwitted by the
Magi, he was filled with
rage. Sending orders, he put to death all the boys in
Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from the
Magi.
And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
When you are brought before synagogues, rulers, and authorities, do not
worry about how to defend
yourselves or what to say.
When thou goest with thine
adversary to the
magistrate, as thou art in the way, give
diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he
hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.
Make every effort to
reconcile with your
adversary while you are on your way to the
magistrate. Otherwise, he may
drag you off to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and the officer may throw you into prison.
And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
They brought them to the
magistrates and said, “These men are Jews and are throwing our city into
turmoil And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and
Silas, and the
magistrates ordered that they be
stripped and beaten with rods.
And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
When
daylight came, the
magistrates sent their officers with the order: “Release those men.”
And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
The
jailer informed Paul: “The
magistrates have sent orders to release you. Now you may go on your way in peace.”
And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
So the officers relayed this message to the
magistrates, who were
alarmed to hear that Paul and
Silas were Roman citizens.
Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
And a number of those who had practiced
magic arts brought their books and burned them in front of
everyone. When the value of the books was calculated, the total came to fifty thousand
drachmas.
Put them in mind to be subject to
principalities and powers, to obey
magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Remind the believers to submit to rulers and authorities, to be
obedient and ready for every good work,
But joined battle with him in the plain of Magiddo, and the princes came against king Josias.
As for the illusions of art
magick, they were put down, and their
vaunting in wisdom was reproved with disgrace.
