Is this
man Coniah a
despised broken
idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
Is this
man Coniah a
despised and
shattered pot, a
jar that no one wants? Why are he and his descendants
hurled out and cast into a land they do not know?
Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this
man childless, a
man that shall not
prosper in his days: for no
man of his seed shall
prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
This is what the LORD says: “
Enroll this
man as childless, a
man who will not
prosper in his lifetime. None of his descendants will
prosper to sit on the throne of David or to rule again in Judah.”
Mine heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones
shake; I am like a
drunken man, and like a
man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his
holiness.
As for the prophets: My heart is broken within me, and all my bones
tremble. I have become like a
drunkard, like a
man overcome by wine, because of the LORD, because of His holy words.
Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
“Can a man hide in secret places where I cannot see him?” declares the LORD. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.
Which think to cause my people to
forget my name by their dreams which they tell every
man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for
Baal.
They suppose the dreams that they tell one another will make My people
forget My name, just as their fathers
forgot My name through the worship of
Baal.
And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even
punish that
man and his house.
As for the prophet or priest or
anyone who claims, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ I will
punish that
man and his household.
Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
This is what each man is to say to his friend and to his brother: ‘What has the LORD answered?’ or ‘What has the LORD spoken?’
And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every
man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have
perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
But refer no more to the burden of the LORD, for each
man’s word becomes the burden, so that you
pervert the words of the living God, the LORD of Hosts, our God.
For
many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will
recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.
For
many nations and great kings will
enslave them, and I will repay them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.’”
A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will
plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.
The
tumult will resound to the ends of the earth because the LORD brings a charge against the nations. He brings judgment on all
mankind and puts the wicked to the sword,’” declares the LORD.
If so be they will
hearken, and turn every
man from his evil way, that I may
repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
Perhaps they will
listen and turn—each from his evil way of life—so that I may relent of the
disaster I am
planning to bring upon them because of the evil of their deeds.
Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This
man is worthy to die; for he hath
prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
Then the priests and prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This
man is worthy of death, for he has
prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears!”
Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.
Then the officials and all the people told the priests and prophets, “This man is not worthy of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God!”
And there was also a
man that
prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who
prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:
Now there was another
man prophesying in the name of the LORD, Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He
prophesied against this city and against this land the same things that Jeremiah did.
I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.
By My great power and outstretched arm, I made the earth and the men and beasts on the face of it, and I give it to whom I please.
And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
All nations will serve him and his son and grandson, until the time of his own land comes; then
many nations and great kings will
enslave him.
The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old
prophesied both against
many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of
pestilence.
The prophets of old who preceded you and me
prophesied war,
disaster, and plague against
many lands and great kingdoms.
The LORD hath made thee priest in the
stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every
man that is
mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.
‘The LORD has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada, to be the chief officer in the house of the LORD, responsible for any
madman who acts like a prophet—you must put him in stocks and neck irons.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will
punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a
man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
this is what the LORD says: ‘I will surely
punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants. He will have no one left among this people, nor will he see the good that I will bring to My people, declares the LORD, for he has preached rebellion against the LORD.’”
Ask ye now, and see whether a
man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every
man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in
travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
Ask now, and see: Can a male give birth? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
For I will restore health unto thee, and I will
heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is
Zion, whom no
man seeketh after.
But I will restore your health and
heal your wounds, declares the LORD, because they call you an outcast,
Zion, for whom no one cares.”
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own
heap, and the palace shall remain after the
manner thereof.
This is what the LORD says: “I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have
compassion on his dwellings. And the city will be rebuilt on her own ruins, and the palace will stand in its rightful place.
How long
wilt thou go about, O thou
backsliding daughter? for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a
man.
How long will you
wander, O faithless daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing in the land— a woman will shelter a
man.”
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will
sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of
man, and with the seed of beast.
“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will
sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of
man and of beast.
But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every
man that eateth the
sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
Instead, each will die for his own iniquity. If
anyone eats the
sour grapes, his own teeth will be set on edge.
And they shall teach no more every
man his neighbour, and every
man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will
forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
No longer will each
man teach his
neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will
forgive their
iniquities and will remember their sins no more.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an
earthen vessel, that they may continue
many days.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Take these deeds—both the sealed copy and the open copy of the deed of purchase—and put them in a clay
jar to preserve them for a long time.
Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;
You performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and You do so to this very day, both in Israel and among all
mankind. And You have made a name for
Yourself, as is the case to this day.
And fields shall be bought in this land,
whereof ye say, It is
desolate without
man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
And fields will be bought in this land about which you are saying, ‘It is a
desolation, without
man or beast; it has been delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans.’
Thus saith the LORD; Again there shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall be
desolate without
man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are
desolate, without
man, and without inhabitant, and without beast,
This is what the LORD says: In this place you say is a wasteland without man or beast, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted—inhabited by neither man nor beast—there will be heard again
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Again in this place, which is
desolate without
man and without beast, and in all the cities thereof, shall be an
habitation of
shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: In this
desolate place, without
man or beast, and in all its cities, there will once more be pastures for
shepherds to rest their flocks.
For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;
For this is what the LORD says: David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,
Neither shall the priests the Levites want a
man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to
kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.
nor will the priests who are Levites ever fail to have a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to present sacrifices.”
That every
man should let his
manservant, and every
man his
maidservant, being an Hebrew or an
Hebrewess, go free; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a
Jew his brother.
that each
man should free his Hebrew slaves, both male and female, and no one should hold his fellow
Jew in
bondage.
Now when all the princes, and all the people, which had entered into the covenant, heard that every one should let his
manservant, and every one his
maidservant, go free, that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed, and let them go.
So all the officials and all the people who entered into this covenant agreed that they would free their menservants and maidservants and no longer hold them in
bondage. They obeyed and released them,
At the end of seven years let ye go every
man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers
hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.
Every seventh year, each of you must free his Hebrew brother who has sold himself to you. He may serve you six years, but then you must let him go free. But your fathers did not
listen or
incline their ear.
And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in
proclaiming liberty every
man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
Recently you
repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his
neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that bears My Name.
But ye turned and
polluted my name, and caused every
man his servant, and every
man his
handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
But now you have changed your minds and
profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not
hearkened unto me, in
proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every
man to his neighbour: behold, I
proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the
pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: You have not obeyed Me; you have not proclaimed freedom, each
man for his brother and for his
neighbor. So now I
proclaim freedom for you, declares the LORD—freedom to fall by sword, by plague, and by famine! I will make you a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:
and I brought them into the house of the LORD, to a chamber occupied by the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah, a
man of God. This room was near the chamber of the officials, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah son of Shallum the
doorkeeper.
Neither shall ye build house, nor
sow seed, nor plant
vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live
many days in the land where ye be strangers.
Nor are you ever to build a house or
sow seed or plant a
vineyard. Those things are not for you. Instead, you must live in tents all your lives, so that you may live a long time in the land where you
wander.’
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every
man from his evil way, and
amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor
hearkened unto me.
Again and again I have sent you all My servants the prophets,
proclaiming: ‘Turn now, each of you, from your wicked ways, and correct your actions. Do not go after other gods to serve them. Live in the land that I have given to you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear or
listened to Me.
Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab son of Rechab will never fail to have a man to stand before Me.’”
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every
man from his evil way; that I may
forgive their iniquity and their sin.
Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about all the
calamity I plan to bring upon them, each of them will turn from his wicked way. Then I will
forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
Then said the princes unto
Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no
man know where ye be.
Then the officials said to
Baruch, “You and Jeremiah must hide
yourselves and tell no one where you are.”
And thou shalt say to
Jehoiakim the king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence
man and beast?
You are to
proclaim concerning
Jehoiakim king of Judah that this is what the LORD says: You have burned the
scroll and said, ‘Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon would surely come and destroy this land and deprive it of
man and beast?’
Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to
Baruch the
scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which
Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them
many like words.
Then Jeremiah took another
scroll and gave it to the
scribe Baruch son of Neriah, and at Jeremiah’s
dictation he wrote on it all the words of the
scroll that
Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And
many similar words were added to them.
For though ye had
smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every
man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
Indeed, if you were to strike down the entire army of the Chaldeans that is fighting against you, and only wounded men remained in their tents, they would still get up and burn this city down.”
When Jeremiah was entered into the
dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there
many days;
So Jeremiah went into a cell in the
dungeon and remained there a long time.
Therefore the princes said unto the king, We
beseech thee, let this
man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this
man seeketh not the
welfare of this people, but the
hurt.
Then the officials said to the king, “This man ought to die, for he is discouraging the warriors who remain in this city, as well as all the people, by speaking such words to them; this man is not seeking the well-being of these people, but their ruin.”
Then said
Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no
man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in
Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will
slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no
man shall know it: wherefore should he
slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the
remnant in Judah perish?
Then Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah at
Mizpah. “Let me go and kill
Ishmael son of Nethaniah,” he said. “No one will know it. Why should he take your life and
scatter all the people of Judah who have gathered to you, so that the
remnant of Judah would perish?”
And it came to pass the second day after he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew it,
On the second day after the murder of Gedaliah, when no one yet knew about it,
And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we
beseech thee, our
supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this
remnant; (for we are left but a few of
many, as thine eyes do behold us:)
Jeremiah the prophet and said, “May our petition come before you; pray to the LORD your God on behalf of this entire
remnant. For few of us remain of the
many, as you can see with your own eyes.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a
desolation, and no
man dwelleth therein,
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: You have seen all the
disaster that I brought against Jerusalem and all the cities of Judah; and behold, they lie
today in ruins and
desolation Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you
man and woman, child and
suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;
So now, this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Why are you doing such great
harm to
yourselves by cutting off from Judah
man and woman, child and infant, leaving
yourselves without a
remnant?
Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have
sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any
man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Nevertheless, hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have
sworn by My great name, says the LORD, that never again will any
man of Judah living in the land of Egypt
invoke My name or say, ‘As surely as the Lord GOD lives.’
Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.
I am watching over them for
harm and not for good, and every
man of Judah who is in the land of Egypt will meet his end by sword or famine, until they are finished off.
Let not the swift
flee away, nor the mighty
man escape; they shall
stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.
“The swift cannot
flee, and the
warrior cannot escape! In the north by the River Euphrates they
stumble and fall.
Go up into
Gilead, and take
balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use
many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.
The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty
man hath
stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.
The nations have heard of your shame, and your outcry fills the earth, because
warrior stumbles over
warrior and both of them have fallen together.”
He made
many to fall,
yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our
nativity, from the
oppressing sword.
They continue to
stumble; indeed, they have fallen over one another. They say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the
oppressor.’
O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and
espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?
Stand by the road and watch, O dweller of Aroer! Ask the
man fleeing or the woman escaping, ‘What has happened?’
Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.
Behold, I am about to bring terror upon you, declares the Lord GOD of Hosts, from all those around you. You will each be driven
headlong, with no one to regather the fugitives.
As in the overthrow of
Sodom and
Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD, no
man shall
abide there, neither shall a son of
man dwell in it.
As
Sodom and
Gomorrah were overthrown along with their neighbors,” says the LORD, “no one will dwell there; no
man will
abide there.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the
habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen
man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Edom from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand against Me?”
And Hazor shall be a dwelling for
dragons, and a
desolation for ever: there shall no
man abide there, nor any son of
man dwell in it.
For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land
desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both
man and beast.
For a nation from the north will come against her; it will make her land a
desolation. No one will live in it; both
man and beast will
flee.”
For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in
array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty
expert man; none shall return in vain.
For behold, I
stir up and bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the land of the north. They will line up against her; from the north she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed.
As God overthrew
Sodom and
Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no
man abide there, neither shall any son of
man dwell therein.
As God overthrew
Sodom and
Gomorrah along with their neighbors,” declares the LORD, “no one will dwell there; no
man will
abide there.
Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
Behold, an army is coming from the north; a great nation and
many kings are
stirred up from the ends of the earth.
They shall hold the bow and the
lance: they are cruel, and will not
shew mercy: their voice shall
roar like the sea, and they shall
ride upon horses, every one put in
array, like a
man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
They
grasp the bow and
spear; they are cruel and
merciless. Their voice roars like the sea, and they
ride upon horses, lined up like men in formation against you, O Daughter of Babylon.
Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the
habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen
man, that I may
appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that
shepherd that will stand before me?
Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered pasture. For in an instant I will
chase Babylon from her land. Who is the chosen one I will
appoint for this? For who is like Me, and who can
challenge Me? What
shepherd can stand against Me?”
Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every
man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S
vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.
Flee from Babylon! Escape with your lives! Do not be destroyed in her punishment. For this is the time of the LORD’s
vengeance; He will pay her what she deserves.
O thou that dwellest upon
many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy
covetousness.
You who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come; the thread of your life is cut.
Every
man is
brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the
graven image: for his
molten image is
falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
Every
man is senseless and devoid of knowledge; every
goldsmith is put to shame by his idols. For his
molten images are a
fraud, and there is no breath in them.
With thee also will I break in pieces
man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young
man and the
maid;
Her cities are a
desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no
man dwelleth, neither
doth any son of
man pass thereby.
Her cities have become a
desolation, a dry and
arid land, a land where no one lives, where no son of
man passes through.
My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Come out of her, My people! Save your lives, each of you, from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither
man nor beast, but that it shall be
desolate for ever.
and say, ‘O LORD, You have promised to cut off this place so that no one will remain—neither
man nor beast. Indeed, it will be
desolate forever.’
Her
adversaries are the chief, her enemies
prosper; for the LORD hath
afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.
Her foes have become her masters; her enemies are at ease. For the LORD has brought her grief because of her
many transgressions. Her children have gone away as
captives before the enemy.
Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs are
many, and my heart is
faint.
Let all their wickedness come before You, and deal with them as You have dealt with me because of all my transgressions. For my groans are
many, and my heart is
faint.
I am the
man that hath seen
affliction by the rod of his wrath.
I am the
man who has seen
affliction under the rod of God’s wrath.
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is still young.
To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,
to deny a man justice before the Most High,
To
subvert a
man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.
Wherefore
doth a living
man complain, a
man for the punishment of his sins?
The tongue of the
sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for
thirst: the young children ask bread, and no
man breaketh it unto them.
The
nursing infant’s tongue clings in
thirst to the roof of his mouth. Little children
beg for bread, but no one gives them any.
Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
and within it was the form of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: They had a human form,
And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.
Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. All four living creatures had faces and wings,
As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.
The form of their faces was that of a man, and each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and also the face of an eagle.
And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the
Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.
When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings like the
roar of
many waters, like the voice of the
Almighty, like the
tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings.
And above the
firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a
sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a
man above upon it.
Above the
expanse over their heads was the likeness of a throne with the appearance of
sapphire, and on the throne high above was a figure like that of a
man.
And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.”
And he said unto me, Son of
man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a
rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have
transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
“Son of
man,” He said to me, “I am sending you to the Israelites, to a
rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. To this very day they and their fathers have rebelled against Me.
And thou, son of
man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou
dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a
rebellious house.
But you, son of
man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns
surround you, and you dwell among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their presence, though they are a
rebellious house.
But thou, son of
man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou
rebellious like that
rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.
And you, son of
man,
listen to what I tell you. Do not be
rebellious like that
rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.
“Son of
man,” He said to me, “eat what you find here. Eat this
scroll, then go and speak to the house of Israel.”
And he said unto me, Son of
man, cause thy
belly to eat, and fill thy
bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.
“Son of
man,” He said to me, “eat and fill your stomach with this
scroll I am giving you.” So I
ate, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth.
