The eye that beholds me will no longer see me. You will look for me, but I will be no more.
As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.
As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so he who goes down to
Sheol does
not come back up.
Therefore I will
not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the
anguish of my spirit; I will
complain in the bitterness of my soul.
Therefore I will
not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the
anguish of my spirit; I will
complain in the bitterness of my soul.
I
loathe it; I would
not live
alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
I
loathe my life! I would
not live
forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.
Will You never look away from me, or leave me alone to
swallow my
spittle?
And why
dost thou
not pardon my
transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall
not be.
Why do You
not pardon my
transgression and take away my iniquity? For soon I will lie down in the dust; You will seek me, but I will be no more.”

yesterday, and know
nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

yesterday and know
nothing; our days on earth are but a shadow.

not cut down, it withereth before any other
herb.

lean upon his house, but it shall
not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall
not endure.

not endure.

not to
shine; He seals off the stars.
Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
Were He to pass by me, I would not see Him; were He to move, I would not recognize Him.

not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do
stoop under him.
God does
not restrain His anger; the helpers of

not answer, but I would make
supplication to my judge.

not answer. I could only
beg my Judge for mercy.
If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I
not believe that he had
hearkened unto my voice.

not believe He would
listen to my voice.

wilt not hold me innocent.
I would still
dread all my sufferings; I know that You will
not acquit me.

For He is not a man like me, that I can answer Him, that we can take each other to court.
Let him take his rod away from me, and let
not his fear
terrify me:
Let Him remove His rod from me, so that His terror will no longer
frighten me.

Then I would speak without fear of Him. But as it is, I am on my own.
I will say unto God, Do
not condemn me;
shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.
Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand.
though You know that I am
not guilty, and there is no
deliverance from Your hand?
Did You
not pour me out like milk, and
curdle me like
cheese?
If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou
wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.
If I
sinned, You would take
note, and would
not acquit me of my iniquity.
If I be wicked,
woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I
not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see thou mine
affliction;
If I am guilty,
woe to me! And even if I am righteous, I cannot lift my head. I am full of shame and aware of my
affliction.
I should have been as though I had
not been; I should have been carried from the
womb to the grave.

before I go—never to return— to a land of darkness and
gloom,

vindicated?
For he knoweth vain men: he
seeth wickedness also; will he
not then consider it?
Surely He knows the
deceit of men. If He sees iniquity, does He
not take
note?
If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
if you put away the iniquity in your hand, and allow no injustice to dwell in your tents,
For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot;
yea, thou shalt be
stedfast, and shalt
not fear:
then indeed you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm and unafraid.

elude them; they will hope for their last breath.”
But I have understanding as well as you; I am
not inferior to you:
yea, who knoweth
not such things as these?
But I also have a mind; I am not inferior to you. Who does not know such things as these?
Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?
Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?
Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?
Does not the ear test words as the tongue tastes its food?
What ye know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.
What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you.
Would His majesty
not terrify you? Would the
dread of Him
not fall upon you?

hypocrite shall
not come before him.

not let Your terror
frighten me.

sprout again, and its tender shoots will
not fail.
So man lieth down, and riseth
not: till the heavens be no more, they shall
not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

awakened or
roused from sleep.

not hid it:
what was declared by wise men and was not concealed from their fathers,

not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he
prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.

not endure. His possessions will
not overspread the land.

not him that is
deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.

not asswaged: and though I
forbear, what am I eased?

His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my
reins asunder, and
doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
His archers
surround me. He pierces my
kidneys without mercy and spills my gall on the ground.

yet my hands are free of violence and my prayer is pure.

not mockers with me? and

surround me, and my eyes must
gaze at their rebellion.

hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou
not exalt them.
You have closed their minds to understanding; therefore You will
not exalt them.

spark of his fire shall
not shine.

not ashamed that ye make
yourselves strange to me.
Ten times now you have reproached me; you
shamelessly mistreat me.

not heard: I cry
aloud, but there is no judgment.

response; though I call for help, there is no justice.

not satisfied with my flesh?

not another; though my
reins be consumed within me.

not be found:

chased away as a vision of the night.
He will fly away like a dream, never to be found; he will be
chased away like a vision in the night.
Though he
spare it, and
forsake it
not; but keep it still within his mouth:

not see the rivers, the floods, the
brooks of honey and butter.
He will
not enjoy the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and
cream.

not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the
restitution be, and he shall
not rejoice therein.

oppressed and hath
forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded
not;

not feel quietness in his
belly, he shall
not save of that which he desired.

hid in his secret places: a fire
not blown shall
consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.

consume him and
devour what is left in his tent.

complaint to man? and if it were so, why should

not; their cow calveth, and casteth
not her
calf.
Their bulls breed without fail; their cows bear
calves and do
not miscarry.

Still, their prosperity is not in their own hands, so I stay far from the counsel of the wicked.
Have ye
not asked them that go by the way? and do ye
not know their
tokens,
Have you never asked those who travel the roads? Do you not accept their reports?
Is
not thy wickedness great? and thine
iniquities infinite?
Is
not your wickedness great? Are
not your
iniquities endless?

Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he
seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Thick clouds
veil Him so He does
not see us as He traverses the
vault of heaven.’

not cut down, but the
remnant of them the fire consumeth.

not innocent,

plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.
Would He

note of me.
