And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
Nor should you accept a
ransom for the person who flees to a city of refuge and allow him to return and live on his
own land before the death of the high priest.
Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself to his own inheritance.
No inheritance may be transferred from one tribe to another, for each tribe of Israel must retain its inheritance.”
Jair the son of
Manasseh took all the country of
Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his
own name,
Bashan-havoth-
jair, unto this day.
Jair, a
descendant of
Manasseh, took the whole region of
Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites. He renamed
Bashan after himself, Havvoth-
jair, by which it is called to this day.
And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms
whither thou passest.
And at that time I commanded Joshua: “Your own eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings. The LORD will do the same to all the kingdoms you are about to enter.
Get thee up into the top of
Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
Go to the top of
Pisgah and look to the west and north and south and east. See the land with your
own eyes, for you will not cross this Jordan.
Or hath God
assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
Or has any god tried to take as his own a nation out of another nation—by trials, signs, wonders, and war, by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors—as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?
That the
slayer might
flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and
hated him not in times past; and that
fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:
To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD that I am giving you this day for your own good?
But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.
For it is your own eyes that have seen every great work that the LORD has done.
Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man
whatsoever is right in his
own eyes.
You are not to do as we are doing here
today, where
everyone does what seems right in his
own eyes.
If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy
bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine
own soul,
entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (which neither you nor your fathers have known,
And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and
fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart
faint as well as his heart.
Then the officers shall speak further to the army, saying, “Is any man afraid or
fainthearted? Let him return home, so that the hearts of his brothers will not
melt like his
own.”
And if thy brother be not
nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine
own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.
If your brother does not live near you, or if you do not know who he is, you are to take the animal home to remain with you until your brother comes seeking it; then you can return it to him.
That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a
freewill offering, according as thou hast
vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.
Be careful to follow through on what comes from your lips, because you have freely
vowed to the LORD your God with your
own mouth.
When thou comest into thy neighbour’s
vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine
own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.
When you enter your
neighbor’s
vineyard, you may eat your fill of grapes, but you must not put any in your
basket.
In any case thou shalt deliver him the
pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his
own raiment, and
bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.
be sure to return it to him by
sunset, so that he may sleep in his
own cloak and
bless you, and this will be credited to you as righteousness before the LORD your God.
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.
And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine
own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness,
wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee:
Then you will eat the fruit of your
womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you.
And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
Moses summoned all Israel and proclaimed to them, “You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land.
The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:
You saw with your
own eyes the great trials, and those
miraculous signs and wonders.
And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this
curse, that he
bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add
drunkenness to
thirst:
because when such a person hears the words of this oath, he invokes a blessing on himself, saying, ‘I will have peace, even though I walk in the
stubbornness of my
own heart.’ This will bring
disaster on the watered land as well as the dry.
Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their
adversaries should
behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD hath not done all this.
if I had not
dreaded the
taunt of the enemy, lest their
adversaries misunderstand and say: ‘Our
own hand has prevailed; it was not the LORD who did all this.’”
Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount
Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against
Jericho; and behold the land of
Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:
“Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount
Nebo, in the land of Moab across from
Jericho, and view the land of
Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites as their
own possession.
And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.
And concerning Judah he said: “O LORD, hear the cry of Judah and bring him to his people. With his own hands he defends his cause, but may You be a help against his foes.”
Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.
He said of his father and mother, ‘I do not consider them.’ He disregarded his brothers and did not know his own sons, for he kept Your word and maintained Your covenant.
And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I
sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
And the LORD said to him, “This is the land that I
swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your
own eyes, but you will not cross into it.”
And it shall be, that
whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and
whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
If
anyone goes out the door of your house into the street, his blood will be on his
own head, and we will be innocent. But if a hand is laid on
anyone with you in the house, his blood will be on our heads.
Israel hath
sinned, and they have also
transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the
accursed thing, and have also
stolen, and
dissembled also, and they have put it even among their
own stuff.
Israel has
sinned; they have
transgressed My covenant that I commanded them, and they have taken some of what was devoted to destruction. Indeed, they have
stolen and
lied, and they have put these things with their
own possessions.
And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took
Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the
wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his
asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of
Achor.
Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took
Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the
cloak, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen and
donkeys and sheep, his tent, and everything else he
owned, and brought them to the Valley of
Achor.
And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the
slayer return, and come unto his
own city, and unto his
own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
He is to stay in that city until he stands trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest serving at that time. Then the
manslayer may return to his
own home in the city from which he fled.”
And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs.
So by the command of the LORD, the Israelites gave the Levites these cities and their pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities.
Each of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities.
And the children of
Reuben and the children of
Gad and the half tribe of
Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of
Shiloh, which is in the land of
Canaan, to go unto the country of
Gilead, to the land of their possession,
whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of
Manasseh left the Israelites at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan to return to their
own land of
Gilead, which they had acquired according to the command of the LORD through Moses.
And I sent the
hornet before you, which
drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the
Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
I sent the
hornet ahead of you, and it drove out the two Amorite kings before you, but not by your
own sword or bow.
So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.
And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.
After Joshua had dismissed the people, the Israelites went out to take possession of the land, each to his own inheritance.
And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their
own doings, nor from their
stubborn way.
But when the judge died, the Israelites became even more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods to serve them and bow down to them. They would not give up their evil practices and
stubborn ways.
And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
And they took the daughters of these people in marriage, gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
And the LORD said unto
Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel
vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine
own hand hath saved me.
Then the LORD said to
Gideon, “You have too many people for Me to deliver
Midian into their hands, lest Israel
glorify themselves over Me, saying, ‘My
own hand has saved me.’
And Jerubbaal the son of
Joash went and dwelt in his
own house.
and he—Jerubbaal son of
Joash—returned home and settled down.
Gideon had seventy sons of his
own, since he had many wives.
Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of
Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are
threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.
“Please ask all the leaders of
Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, rule over you, or just one man?’ Remember that I am your
own flesh and blood.”
And all the people likewise cut down every man his
bough, and followed
Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of
Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.
So each man also cut his
own branch and followed
Abimelech. Then they piled the branches against the inner chamber and set it on fire above them, killing
everyone in the tower of
Shechem, about a thousand men and women.
And all the evil of the men of
Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the
curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
And God also brought all the wickedness of the men of
Shechem back upon their
own heads. So the
curse of Jotham son of Jerubbaal came upon them.
And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the
Amorites, the king of
Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place.
And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the
Amorites, who ruled in
Heshbon, and said to him, ‘Please let us pass through your land into our
own place.’
In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
In those days there was no king in Israel;
everyone did what was right in his
own eyes.
Now as they were making their hearts
merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of
Belial,
beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.
While they were enjoying themselves, suddenly the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they said to the old man who owned the house, “Bring out the man who came to your house, so we can have relations with him!”
And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them,
Nay, my brethren,
nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.
The
owner of the house went out and said to them, “No, my brothers, do not do this wicked thing! After all, this man is a
guest in my house. Do not commit this
outrage.
And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.
The Benjamites did as
instructed and carried away the number of women they needed from the dancers they caught. They went back to their
own inheritance, rebuilt their cities, and settled in them.
And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.
And at that time, each of the Israelites returned from there to his own tribe and clan, each to his own inheritance.
In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
In those days there was no king in Israel;
everyone did what was right in his
own eyes.
He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
He guards the steps of His faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness; for by his own strength shall no man prevail.
And
Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the
loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their
own home.
And
Eli would
bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, “May the LORD give you children by this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the LORD.” Then they would go home.
So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his
own place, that it
slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
Then the Ekronites assembled all the rulers of the Philistines and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel. It must return to its place, so that it will not kill us and our people!” For a deadly confusion had
pervaded the city; the hand of God was heavy upon it.
And see, if it goeth up by the way of his
own coast to Beth-shemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that
smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.
but keep watching it. If it goes up the road to its homeland, toward Beth-shemesh, it is the LORD who has brought on us this great
disaster. But if it does not, then we will know that it was not His hand that punished us and that it happened by chance.”
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and
appoint them for himself, for his
chariots, and to be his
horsemen; and some shall run before his
chariots.
He said, “This will be the manner of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and
appoint them to his
own chariots and horses, to run in front of his
chariots.
And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your
asses, and put them to his work.
And he will take your menservants and maidservants and your best cattle and
donkeys and put them to his
own use.
Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
Then Samuel explained to the people the rights of
kingship. He wrote them on a
scroll and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, each to his
own home.
For the LORD will not
forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.
Indeed, for the sake of His great name, the LORD will not
abandon His people, because He was pleased to make you His
own.
Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel;
whereof two thousand were with Saul in
Michmash and in mount
Bethel, and a thousand were with
Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.
He chose for himself three thousand men of Israel: Two thousand were with Saul at
Michmash and in the hill country of
Bethel, and a thousand were with
Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. And the rest of the troops he sent away, each to his
own home.
But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.
But now your kingdom will not
endure; the LORD has sought a man after His
own heart and appointed him ruler over His people, because you have not kept the command of the LORD.”
Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.
Then Saul gave up his pursuit of the Philistines, and the Philistines returned to their own land.
And Samuel said, When thou
wast little in thine
own sight,
wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD
anointed thee king over Israel?
And Samuel said, “Although you were once small in your
own eyes, have you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD
anointed you king over Israel
And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an
helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of
mail.
Then Saul clothed David in his
own tunic, put a bronze
helmet on his head, and dressed him in
armor.
And David took the head of the
Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
David took the head of the
Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, and he put
Goliath’s weapons in his
own tent.
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of
Jonathan was
knit with the soul of David, and
Jonathan loved him as his
own soul.
After David had finished speaking with Saul, the souls of
Jonathan and David were
knit together, and
Jonathan loved him as himself.
Then
Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his
own soul.
Then
Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.
And
Jonathan caused David to
swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his
own soul.
Then Saul’s anger was
kindled against
Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the
perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of
Jesse to thine
own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother’s nakedness?
Then Saul’s anger burned against
Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a
perverse and
rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of
Jesse to your
own shame and to the disgrace of the mother who bore you?
That all of you have
conspired against me, and there is none that sheweth me that my son hath made a league with the son of
Jesse, and there is none of you that is
sorry for me, or sheweth unto me that my son hath
stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?
Is that why all of you have
conspired against me? Not one of you told me that my
own son had made a covenant with the son of
Jesse. Not one of you has shown
concern for me or revealed to me that my son has
stirred up my
own servant to lie in wait against me, as is the case
today.”
Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some
bade me kill thee: but mine eye
spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD’S
anointed.
Behold, this day you have seen with your
own eyes that the LORD delivered you into my hand in the cave. I was told to kill you, but I
spared you and said, ‘I will not lift my hand against my lord, since he is the LORD’s
anointed.’
Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath
withholden thee from coming to shed blood, and from
avenging thyself with thine
own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.
Now, my lord, as surely as the LORD lives and you
yourself live, the LORD has held you back from coming to
bloodshed and
avenging yourself with your
own hand. May your enemies and those who seek
harm for my lord be like Nabal.
And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from
avenging myself with mine
own hand.
And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD, that hath
pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil: for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his
own head. And David sent and communed with
Abigail, to take her to him to wife.
On hearing that Nabal was dead, David said, “Blessed be the LORD, who has
upheld my cause against the reproach of Nabal and has restrained His servant from evil. For the LORD has brought the wickedness of Nabal down upon his
own head.” Then David sent word to
Abigail, asking for her in marriage.
Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had
lamented him, and buried him in
Ramah, even in his
own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.
Now by this time Samuel had died, and all Israel had
mourned for him and buried him in
Ramah, his
own city. And Saul had removed the mediums and spiritists from the land.
Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through
therewith; lest these
uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was
sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Then Saul said to his
armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these
uncircumcised men will come and run me through and
torture me!” But his
armor-bearer was
terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his
own sword and fell on it.
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
When his
armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his
own sword and died with him.
Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him:
Then David took hold of his
own clothes and
tore them, and all the men who were with him did the same.
And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath
testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD’S
anointed.
For David had said to the Amalekite, “Your blood be on your
own head because your
own mouth has
testified against you, saying, ‘I killed the LORD’s
anointed.’”
How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?
How much more, when wicked men kill a righteous man in his own house and on his own bed, shall I not now require his blood from your hands and remove you from the earth!”
Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto
Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at
Hebron and said, “Here we are, your
own flesh and blood.
And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a
cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a
flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.
Then he distributed to every man and woman among the multitude of Israel a
loaf of bread, a date
cake, and a
raisin cake. And all the people departed, each for his
own home.
Then David returned to
bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel
today, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows
shamelessly uncovereth himself!
As soon as David returned home to
bless his
own household, Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself
today!” she said. “He has uncovered himself
today in the sight of the maidservants of his subjects, like a vulgar person would do.”
And I will yet be more
vile than thus, and will be base in mine
own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.
and I will
humiliate and humble myself even more than this. Yet I will be honored by the maidservants of whom you have spoken.”
Moreover I will
appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their
own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness
afflict them any more, as
beforetime,
And I will provide a place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may dwell in a place of their
own and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness
oppress them as they did at the beginning
And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy
bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
And when your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your
descendant after you, who will come from your
own body, and I will establish his kingdom.
For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.
For the sake of Your word and according to Your own heart, You have accomplished this great thing and revealed it to Your servant.
Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
How great You are, O Lord GOD! For there is none like You, and there is no God but You, according to everything we have heard with our own ears.
For thou hast confirmed to
thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God.
For You have established Your people Israel as Your very
own forever, and You, O LORD, have become their God.
Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.
And Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do all that my lord the king has commanded.” So Mephibosheth
ate at David’s table like one of the king’s
own sons.
But the poor man had nothing, save one little
ewe lamb, which he had bought and
nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his
own meat, and
drank of his
own cup, and lay in his
bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
but the poor man had nothing except one small
ewe lamb that he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food and
drank from his cup; it
slept in his arms and was like a daughter to him.
And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he
spared to take of his
own flock and of his
own herd, to dress for the
wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
Now a traveler came to the rich man, who
refrained from taking one of his
own sheep or cattle to prepare for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for his
guest.”
Wherefore hast thou
despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of
Ammon.
Why then have you
despised the command of the LORD by doing evil in His sight? You put Uriah the Hittite to the sword and took his wife as your
own, for you have slain him with the sword of the
Ammonites.
Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast
despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you have
despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your
own.’
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
This is what the LORD says: ‘I will raise up
adversity against you from your
own house. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to another, and he will lie with them in broad
daylight.
Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and
anointed himself, and changed his
apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his
own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
Then David got up from the ground, washed and
anointed himself, changed his clothes, and went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his
own house, and at his request they set food before him, and he
ate.
And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? for the king
doth speak this thing as one which is
faulty, in that the king
doth not
fetch home again his banished.
The woman asked, “Why have you devised a thing like this against the people of God? When the king says this, does he not
convict himself, since he has not brought back his
own banished son?
And the king said, Let him turn to his
own house, and let him not see my face. So
Absalom returned to his
own house, and saw not the king’s face.
But the king added, “He may return to his house, but he must not see my face.” So
Absalom returned to his
own house, but he did not see the king.
And David said to
Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my
bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this
Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him
curse; for the LORD hath
bidden him.
Then David said to
Abishai and to all his servants, “Behold, my
own son, my
own flesh and blood, seeks my life. How much more, then, this
Benjamite! Leave him alone and let him
curse me, for the LORD has told him so.
