Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every
herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to
rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
Now no
shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth, nor had any plant of the field
sprouted; for the LORD God had not yet sent
rain upon the earth, and there was no man to
cultivate the ground.
For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
For seven days from now I will send
rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will
wipe from the face of the earth every living thing I have made.”
And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
And the rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.
The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
The springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained.
I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a
token of a covenant between me and the earth.
I have set My
rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the
rainbow appears in the clouds,
And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the
everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
And whenever the
rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the
everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of every kind that is on the earth.”
Then the LORD
rained down sulfur and fire on
Sodom and
Gomorrah—from the LORD out of the heavens.
Behold, to
morrow about this time I will cause it to
rain a very
grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
Behold, at this time
tomorrow I will
rain down the worst
hail that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded until now.
And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent
thunder and
hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD
rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
So Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the LORD sent
thunder and
hail, and
lightning struck the earth. So the LORD
rained down
hail upon the land of Egypt.
And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and
hail ceased, and the
rain was not poured upon the earth.
Then Moses departed from Pharaoh, went out of the city, and spread out his hands to the LORD. The
thunder and
hail ceased, and the
rain no longer poured down on the land.
And when Pharaoh saw that the
rain and the
hail and the thunders were ceased, he
sinned yet more, and
hardened his heart, he and his servants.
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
I will give you rains in their season, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.
But the land,
whither ye go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the
rain of heaven:
But the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks in the rain from heaven.
That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.
then I will provide rain for your land in season, the autumn and spring rains, that you may gather your grain, new wine, and oil.
And then the LORD’S wrath be
kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no
rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
or the anger of the LORD will be
kindled against you. He will shut the heavens so that there will be no
rain, nor will the land yield its produce, and you will soon perish from the good land that the LORD is giving you.
The LORD shall open unto thee his good
treasure, the heaven to give the
rain unto thy land in his season, and to
bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt
lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not
borrow.
The LORD will open the heavens, His abundant
storehouse, to send
rain on your land in season and to
bless all the work of your hands. You will
lend to many nations, but
borrow from none.
The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
The LORD will turn the rain of your land into dust and powder; it will descend on you from the sky until you are destroyed.
My doctrine shall drop as the
rain, my speech shall
distil as the
dew, as the small
rain upon the tender
herb, and as the showers upon the grass:
Let my teaching fall like
rain and my speech settle like
dew, like gentle
rain on new grass, like showers on tender plants.
LORD, when thou wentest out of
Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of
Edom, the earth
trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.
O LORD, when You went out from
Seir, when You marched from the land of
Edom, the earth
trembled, the heavens poured out
rain, and the clouds poured down water.
Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send
thunder and
rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
Is it not the wheat harvest
today? I will call on the LORD to send
thunder and
rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you have committed in the sight of the LORD by asking for a king.”
So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent
thunder and
rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
So Samuel called to the LORD, and on that day the LORD sent
thunder and
rain. As a result, all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
Ye mountains of
Gilboa, let there be no
dew, neither let there be
rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is
vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been
anointed with oil.
O mountains of
Gilboa, may you have no
dew or
rain, no fields yielding offerings of grain. For there the shield of the mighty was
defiled, the shield of Saul, no longer
anointed with oil.
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took
sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took
sackcloth and spread it out for herself on a rock. From the beginning of the harvest until the
rain from heaven poured down on the bodies, she did not allow the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear
shining after
rain.
When heaven is shut up, and there is no
rain, because they have
sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and
confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them:
When the
skies are shut and there is no
rain because Your people have
sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and
confess Your name, and they turn from their sins because You have
afflicted them,
Then hear thou in heaven, and
forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give
rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
then may You hear from heaven and
forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk. May You send
rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
And
Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of
Gilead, said unto
Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be
dew nor
rain these years, but according to my word.
Now
Elijah the Tishbite, who was among the settlers of
Gilead, said to
Ahab, “As surely as the LORD lives—the God of Israel before whom I stand—there will be neither
dew nor
rain in these years except at my word!”
And it came to pass after a while, that the
brook dried up, because there had been no
rain in the land.
Some time later, however, the
brook dried up because there had been no
rain in the land.
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the
cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth
rain upon the earth.
for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The
jar of flour will not be exhausted and the
jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends
rain upon the face of the earth.’”
And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to
Elijah in the third year, saying, Go,
shew thyself unto
Ahab; and I will send
rain upon the earth.
After a long time, in the third year of the
drought, the word of the LORD came to
Elijah: “Go and present
yourself to
Ahab, and I will send
rain upon the face of the earth.”
And
Elijah said unto
Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of
rain.
And
Elijah said to
Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy
rain.”
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto
Ahab, Prepare thy
chariot, and get thee down, that the
rain stop thee not.
On the seventh time the servant reported, “There is a cloud as small as a man’s hand rising from the sea.” And
Elijah replied, “Go and tell
Ahab, ‘Prepare your
chariot and go down before the
rain stops you.’”
And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great
rain. And
Ahab rode, and went to
Jezreel.
Meanwhile, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and a heavy
rain began to fall. So
Ahab rode away and went to
Jezreel.
For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
For the LORD says, ‘You will not see wind or rain, but the valley will be filled with water, and you will drink—you and your cattle and your animals.’
When the heaven is shut up, and there is no

dost afflict them;
When the
skies are shut and there is no

Then hear thou from heaven, and

then may You hear from heaven and

rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
If I shut up heaven that there be no
rain, or if I command the locusts to
devour the land, or if I send
pestilence among my people;
If I close the sky so there is no
rain, or if I command the
locust to
devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people,
Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the
twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God,
trembling because of this matter, and for the great
rain.
So within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem, and on the
twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people sat in the square at the house of God,
trembling regarding this matter and because of the heavy
rain.
But the people are many, and it is a time of much
rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have
transgressed in this thing.
But there are many people here, and it is the
rainy season. We are not able to stay out in the open. Nor is this the work of one or two days, for we have
transgressed greatly in this matter.
Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
He gives rain to the earth and sends water upon the fields.
It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his:
brimstone shall be scattered upon his
habitation.
Fire resides in his tent; burning sulfur rains down on his dwelling.
When he is about to fill his
belly, God shall cast the
fury of his wrath upon him, and shall
rain it upon him while he is eating.
When he has filled his stomach, God will
vent His
fury upon him,
raining it down on him as he eats.
They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.
Drenched by mountain
rains, they
huddle against the rocks for want of shelter.
when He set a limit for the
rain and a path for the
thunderbolt,
And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
They waited for me as for
rain and
drank in my words like spring showers.
For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:
For He draws up drops of water which distill the
rain from the
mist,
For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the gentle
rain, ‘Pour out a mighty
downpour.’
To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
to bring rain on a barren land, on a desert where no man lives,
Hath the
rain a father? or who hath
begotten the drops of
dew?
Does the
rain have a father? Who has
begotten the drops of
dew?
Upon the wicked he shall
rain snares, fire and
brimstone, and an
horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.
On the wicked He will
rain down
fiery coals and sulfur; a
scorching wind will be their portion.
The earth
shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even
Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
the earth
shook and the heavens poured down
rain before God, the One on
Sinai, before God, the God of Israel.
You sent abundant
rain, O God; You refreshed Your
weary inheritance.
He shall come down like
rain upon the
mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
May he be like rain that falls on freshly cut grass, like spring showers that water the earth.
And had
rained down
manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
He
rained down
manna for them to eat; He gave them grain from heaven.
He
rained flesh also upon them as dust, and
feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
He rained meat on them like dust, and winged birds like the sand of the sea.
Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.
As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; even the autumn rain covers it with pools.
He gave them
hail for
rain, and flaming fire in their land.
He gave them
hail for
rain, with
lightning throughout their land.
He causeth the vapours to
ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the
rain; he bringeth the wind out of his
treasuries.
He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the
lightning with the
rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
who covers the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow on the hills.
In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
When a king’s face brightens, there is life; his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.
Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without
rain.
Like clouds and wind without rain is the man who boasts of gifts never given.
As the north wind brings forth
rain, so a
backbiting tongue brings
angry looks.
As snow in summer, and as
rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a
fool.
Like snow in summer and
rain at harvest, honor does not
befit a
fool.
A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a
sweeping rain which leaveth no food.
A destitute leader who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain that leaves no food.
If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
If the clouds are full, they will pour out rain upon the earth; whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not
darkened, nor the clouds return after the
rain:
before the light of the sun, moon, and stars is
darkened, and the clouds return after the
rain,
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
For now the winter is past; the rain is over and gone.
And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the
daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a
covert from storm and from
rain.
a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and the rain.
And I will lay it waste: it shall not be
pruned, nor
digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they
rain no
rain upon it.
I will make it a wasteland, neither
pruned nor cultivated, and thorns and briers will grow up. I will command the clouds that
rain shall not fall on it.”
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the
needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
For You have been a refuge for the poor, a
stronghold for the
needy in distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat. For the breath of the
ruthless is like
rain against a wall,
Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a
tempest of
hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.
Behold, the Lord has one who is strong and mighty. Like a
hailstorm or destructive
tempest, like a driving
rain or flooding
downpour, he will
smash that crown to the ground.
Then shall he give the
rain of thy seed, that thou shalt
sow the ground
withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and
plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures.
Then He will send
rain for the seed that you have sown in the ground, and the food that comes from your land will be rich and
plentiful. On that day your cattle will
graze in open pastures.
He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the
cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the
rain doth nourish it.
He cuts down cedars or retrieves a
cypress or oak. He lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a
laurel, and the
rain makes it grow.
For as the
rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and
bud, that it may give seed to the
sower, and bread to the eater:
For just as
rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, making it
bud and
sprout, and providing seed to
sow and food to eat,
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
They have not said in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives the rains, both autumn and spring, in season, who keeps for us the appointed weeks of harvest.’
When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to
ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with
rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
When He thunders, the waters in the heavens
roar; He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the
lightning with the
rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
Because the ground is chapt, for there was no
rain in the earth, the plowmen were
ashamed, they covered their heads.
The ground is
cracked because no
rain has fallen on the land. The farmers are
ashamed; they cover their heads.
Are there any among the
vanities of the Gentiles that can cause
rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
Can the worthless idols of the nations bring
rain? Do the
skies alone send showers? Is this not by You, O LORD our God? So we put our hope in You, for You have done all these things.
When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapors to
ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with
rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
When He thunders, the waters in the heavens
roar; He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the
lightning with the
rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.
The appearance of the brilliant light all around Him was like that of a
rainbow in a cloud on a
rainy day. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell facedown and heard a voice speaking.
Say unto them which
daub it with untempered
morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a
stormy wind shall
rend it.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even
rend it with a
stormy wind in my
fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my
fury to
consume it.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: In My wrath I will release a
windstorm, and in My anger torrents of
rain and
hail will fall with destructive
fury.
Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the land that is not
cleansed, nor
rained upon in the day of
indignation.
“Son of man, say to her, ‘In the day of
indignation, you are a land that has not been
cleansed, upon which no
rain has fallen.’
And I will
plead against him with
pestilence and with blood; and I will
rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing
rain, and great hailstones, fire, and
brimstone.
I will
execute judgment upon him with plague and
bloodshed. I will pour out torrents of
rain, hailstones, fire, and sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.
Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.
So let us know— let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the rain, like the spring showers that water the earth.
Sow to
yourselves in righteousness,
reap in mercy; break up your
fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and
rain righteousness upon you.
Sow for
yourselves righteousness and
reap the fruit of loving devotion; break up your
unplowed ground. For it is time to seek the LORD until He comes and sends righteousness upon you like
rain.
Be
glad then, ye children of
Zion, and
rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former
rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the
rain, the former
rain, and the latter
rain in the first month.
Be
glad, O children of
Zion, and
rejoice in the LORD your God, for He has given you the autumn
rains for your
vindication. He sends you showers, both autumn and spring
rains, as before.
And also I have
withholden the
rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to
rain upon one city, and caused it not to
rain upon another city: one piece was
rained upon, and the piece
whereupon it
rained not
withered.
“I also
withheld the
rain from you when the harvest was three months away. I sent
rain on one city but
withheld it from another. One field received
rain; another without
rain withered.
Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
Ask the LORD for
rain in
springtime; the LORD makes the storm clouds, and He will give
everyone showers of
rain and crops in the field.
And it shall be, that
whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no
rain.
And should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, then the rain will not fall on them.
And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no
rain; there shall be the plague,
wherewith the LORD will
smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
And if the people of Egypt will not go up and enter in, then the
rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague with which the LORD strikes the nations who do not go up to
celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
And the
rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
The
rain fell, the torrents
raged, and the winds
blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock.
And the
rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
The
rain fell, the torrents
raged, and the winds
blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its
collapse!”
But the same day that Lot went out of
Sodom it
rained fire and
brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
But on the day Lot left
Sodom, fire and sulfur
rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us
rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and
gladness.
Yet He has not left Himself without testimony to His goodness: He gives you
rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and
gladness.”
