hate you shall
reign over you; and ye shall
flee when none pursueth you.

lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not
borrow; and thou shalt

That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may
prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

exalted above his countrymen, and he will not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left, in order that he and his sons may
reign many years over his kingdom in Israel.

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of
Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are
threescore and ten persons,
reign over you, or that one
reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.
“Please ask all the leaders of
Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, rule over you, or just one man?’ Remember that I am your own flesh and blood.”

Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not
reign over them.
And the LORD said to Samuel, “
Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. For it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king.
Now therefore
hearken unto their voice:
howbeit yet
protest solemnly unto them, and
shew them the manner of the king that shall
reign over them.
Now
listen to them, but you must solemnly
warn them and show them the manner of the king who will
reign over them.”
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall
reign over you: He will take your sons, and
appoint them for himself, for his

If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not
rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that
reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:

rebel against the command of the LORD, and if both you and the king who
reigns over you follow the LORD your God, then all will be well.

Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long are you going to
mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to

And
Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest
reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent
Abner away; and he went in peace.
Then
Abner said to David, “Let me go at once, and I will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may rule over all that your heart desires.” So David dismissed
Abner, and he went in peace.

spies throughout the tribes of Israel with this message: “When you hear the sound of the horn, you are to say, ‘
Absalom reigns in
Hebron!’”
The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose
stead thou hast
reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of
Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a
bloody man.
The LORD has paid you back for all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have
reigned, and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of your son
Absalom. See, you have come to ruin because you are a man of
bloodshed!”

But
Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and
Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and

Nathan the prophet, Shimei,
Rei, and David’s mighty men would not join Adonijah.
Wherefore
Nathan spake unto Bath-
sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith
doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?
Then
Nathan said to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, “Have you not heard that Adonijah son of Haggith has become king, and our lord David does not know it?
Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him,
Didst not thou, my lord, O king,
swear unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall
reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then
doth Adonijah
reign?
Go at once to King David and say, ‘My lord the king, did you not
swear to your
maidservant, “Surely your son Solomon will
reign after me, and he will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’
And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall
reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.
“My lord,” she replied, “you
yourself swore to your
maidservant by the LORD your God: ‘Surely your son Solomon will
reign after me, and he will sit on my throne.’
And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not:
But now, behold, Adonijah has become king, and you, my lord the king, did not know it.
And
Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall
reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
“My lord the king,” said
Nathan, “did you say, ‘Adonijah will
reign after me, and he will sit on my throne’?
Even as I
sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall
reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my
stead; even so will I certainly do this day.
I will carry out this very day exactly what I
swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Surely your son Solomon will
reign after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”
Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my
stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.
Then you shall go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. For I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.”

reign:
howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother’s: for it was his from the LORD.

kingship was mine,” he said. “All Israel expected that I should
reign, but the
kingship has turned to my brother, for it has come to him from the LORD.

In the four hundred and

adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, beside the mischief that

Aram with hostility toward Israel.

Rehoboam reigned over them.
but
Rehoboam still
reigned over the Israelites living in the cities of Judah.
And the rest of the acts of

waged war and how he
reigned, they are indeed written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

reign was twenty-two years, and he rested with his fathers, and his son
Nadab reigned in his place.

Rehoboam the son of Solomon
reigned in Judah.

reign, and he
reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Meanwhile,
Rehoboam son of Solomon
reigned in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he
reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the

Ammonite. And his son Abijam
reigned in his place.

Jehoshaphat reigned in his place.
And
Nadab the son of
Jeroboam began to
reign over Israel in the second year of
Asa king of Judah, and
reigned over Israel two years.
In the second year of
Asa’s
reign over Judah,
Nadab son of
Jeroboam became king of Israel, and he
reigned two years.
Even in the third year of
Asa king of Judah did
Baasha slay him, and
reigned in his
stead.
In the third year of
Asa’s
reign over Judah,
Baasha killed
Nadab and
reigned in his place.
And it came to pass, when he
reigned, that he
smote all the house of
Jeroboam; he left not to
Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spake by his servant
Ahijah the Shilonite:
As soon as
Baasha became king, he struck down the entire household of
Jeroboam. He did not leave to
Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His servant
Ahijah the Shilonite,
In the third year of
Asa king of Judah began
Baasha the son of
Ahijah to
reign over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty and four years.
In the third year of
Asa’s
reign over Judah,
Baasha son of
Ahijah became king of all Israel, and he
reigned in Tirzah twenty-four years.

Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah: and Elah his son
reigned in his
stead.

And Zimri went in and
smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of
Asa king of Judah, and
reigned in his
stead.
So in the twenty-seventh year of
Asa’s
reign over Judah, Zimri went in, struck Elah down, and killed him. And Zimri
reigned in his place.
And it came to pass, when he began to
reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he
slew all the house of
Baasha: he left him not one that pisseth against a wall, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends.
As soon as Zimri began to
reign and was seated on the throne, he struck down the entire household of
Baasha. He did not leave a single male, whether a
kinsman or friend.
In the twenty and seventh year of
Asa king of Judah did Zimri
reign seven days in Tirzah. And the people were
encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

reign over Judah, Zimri

But the followers of Omri proved stronger than those of Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri became king.
In the thirty and first year of
Asa king of Judah began Omri to
reign over Israel, twelve years: six years
reigned he in Tirzah.
In the thirty-first year of
Asa’s
reign over Judah, Omri became king of Israel, and he
reigned twelve years, six of them in Tirzah.
So Omri
slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria: and
Ahab his son
reigned in his
stead.
And Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria, and his son
Ahab reigned in his place.
And in the thirty and eighth year of

reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty and two years.

govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be
merry: I will give thee the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite.
But his wife
Jezebel said to him, “Do you not
reign over Israel? Get up, eat some food, and be
cheerful, for I will get you the
vineyard of
Naboth the Jezreelite.”
And
Ahab rested with his fathers, and his son
Ahaziah reigned in his place.
And
Jehoshaphat the son of
Asa began to
reign over Judah in the fourth year of

reigned in his
stead.
And
Jehoshaphat rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And his son Jehoram
reigned in his place.
So he died according to the word of the LORD which
Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram
reigned in his
stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of
Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.
So
Ahaziah died according to the word of the LORD that
Elijah had spoken. And since he had no son, Jehoram succeeded him in the second year of the
reign of Jehoram son of
Jehoshaphat over Judah.
Now Jehoram the son of
Ahab began to
reign over Israel in Samaria the
eighteenth year of
Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and
reigned twelve years.
In the
eighteenth year of
Jehoshaphat’s
reign over Judah, Jehoram son of
Ahab became king of Israel, and he
reigned in Samaria twelve years.
Then he took his eldest son that should have
reigned in his
stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great
indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
So he took his
firstborn son, who was to succeed him, and offered him as a burnt offering on the city wall. And there was great
fury against the Israelites, so they withdrew and returned to their own land.
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and
dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and
Hazael reigned in his
stead.
But the next day
Hazael took a thick cloth,
dipped it in water, and spread it over the king’s face. So Ben-

Hazael reigned in his place.

And
Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and
Ahaziah his son
reigned in his
stead.
And Jehoram rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David. And his son
Ahaziah reigned in his place.
