recompensed me.

recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his
eyesight.

reproach of men, and
despised of the people.

spoiling of my soul.
They
repay me evil for good, to the
bereavement of my soul.

ashamed and brought to confusion together that

hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that

gloat in my distress be
ashamed and confounded; may those who
exalt themselves over me be clothed in shame and
reproach.

merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.

gracious to me and raise me up, that I may
repay them.
As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?
Like the
crushing of my bones, my enemies
taunt me, while they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
Through thee will we
push down our enemies: through thy name will we
tread them under that rise up against us.
Through You we
repel our foes; through Your name we
trample our enemies.
Thou makest us a
reproach to our neighbours, a
scorn and a
derision to them that are round about us.
You have made us a
reproach to our neighbors, a
mockery and
derision to those around us.

reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and
avenger.

thyself: but I will
reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But now I
rebuke you and
accuse you to your face.
For it was not an enemy that
reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that
hated me that did
magnify himself against me; then I would have
hid myself from him:
For it is not an enemy who insults me; that I could
endure. It is not a
foe who rises against me; from him I could hide.
He shall send from heaven, and save from the
reproach of him that would
swallow me up.

hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies

steal, I must
repay.

heaviness: and I looked for some to take
pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

despair. I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found no one.
Let them be
ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my
hurt.
Let them be confounded and consumed that are
adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with
reproach and dishonour that seek my
hurt.
May the accusers of my soul be
ashamed and consumed; may those who seek my
harm be covered with
scorn and disgrace.
O God, how long shall the
adversary reproach? shall the enemy
blaspheme thy name for ever?
Remember this, that the enemy hath
reproached, O LORD, and that the
foolish people have
blasphemed thy name.

plead thine own cause: remember how the
foolish man
reproacheth thee daily.

reproach to our neighbours, a
scorn and
derision to them that are round about us.

reproach to our neighbors, a
scorn and
derision to those around us.

sevenfold into their
bosom their
reproach,
wherewith they have

sevenfold the
reproach they
hurled at You, O Lord.

abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

spoil him: he is a
reproach to his neighbours.

plunder him; he has become a
reproach to his neighbors.
Remember, Lord, the
reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my
bosom the
reproach of all the mighty people;
Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants, which I bear in my heart from so many people—
Return, O LORD, how long? and let it
repent thee concerning thy servants.
Return, O LORD! How long will it be? Have
compassion on Your servants.
Mine enemies
reproach me all the day; and they that are
mad against me are
sworn against me.

iniquities.

repaid us according to our
iniquities.

reproved kings for their sakes;

reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy
testimonies.

Turn away the disgrace I
dread, for Your judgments are good.
So shall I have
wherewith to answer him that
reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.
Then I can answer him who taunts, for I trust in Your word.
For the LORD will judge his people, and he will
repent himself concerning his servants.
O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
O Daughter of Babylon,
doomed to destruction, blessed is he who
repays you as you have done to us.
Let the righteous
smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him
reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their
calamities.
Let the righteous man strike me; let his
rebuke be an act of loving devotion. It is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. For my prayer is ever against the deeds of the wicked.
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
If you had
repented at my
rebuke, then surely I would have poured out my spirit on you; I would have made my words known to you.
But ye have set at
nought all my counsel, and would none of my
reproof:
because you neglected all my counsel, and wanted none of my correction,
They would none of my counsel: they
despised all my
reproof.
They accepted none of my counsel; they
despised all my
reproof.
And say, How have I
hated instruction, and my heart
despised reproof;
and you will say, “How I
hated discipline, and my heart
despised reproof!
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
For this commandment is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way to life,
A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his
reproach shall not be
wiped away.
Wounds and dishonor will
befall him, and his
reproach will never be
wiped away.
He that
reproveth a
scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a
blot.
He who corrects a
mocker brings shame on himself; he who rebukes a wicked man taints himself.
He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who ignores
reproof goes
astray.
Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth
reproof is
brutish.
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is
stupid.
Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
Poverty and shame come to him who ignores discipline, but
whoever heeds correction is honored.

scorner loveth not one that
reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

mocker does not love to be
reproved, nor will he
consult the wise.

A man takes joy in a fitting reply— and how good is a timely word!

The light of the eyes cheers the heart, and good news nourishes the bones.

He who listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.

whoever heeds correction gains understanding.

The plans of the heart belong to man, but the reply of the tongue is from the LORD.
Whoso mocketh the poor
reproacheth his Maker: and he that is
glad at
calamities shall not be unpunished.
He who mocks the poor insults their Maker;
whoever gloats over
calamity will not go unpunished.
He that covereth a
transgression seeketh love; but he that
repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
Whoever conceals an
offense promotes love, but he who brings it up separates friends.
A
reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a
fool.
When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with
ignominy reproach.
With a wicked man comes contempt as well, and shame is accompanied by disgrace.

pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

repay the
lender.

scorner, and the simple will

Drive out the
mocker, and conflict will depart; even quarreling and insults will cease.
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not;
doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul,
doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
If you say, “Behold, we did not know about this,” does not He who weighs hearts consider it? Does not the One who guards your life know? Will He not repay a man according to his deeds?
Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me; I will repay the man according to his work.”
As an
earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise
reprover upon an
obedient ear.
As a dog returneth to his
vomit, so a
fool returneth to his folly.
As a dog returns to its
vomit, so a
fool repeats his folly.
My son, be wise, and make my heart
glad, that I may answer him that
reproacheth me.
Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart, so that I can answer him who taunts me.
He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
A man who remains stiff-necked after much
reproof will suddenly be
shattered beyond recovery.
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
A rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he
reprove thee, and thou be found a
liar.
Do not add to His words, lest He
rebuke you and prove you a
liar.
