Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And an host was given him against the daily
sacrifice by reason of
transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and
prospered.
And in the rebellion, the host and the daily
sacrifice were given over to the horn, and it
flung truth to the ground and
prospered in whatever it did.
Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily
sacrifice, and the
transgression of
desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be
trodden under foot?
Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How long until the
fulfillment of the vision of the daily
sacrifice, the rebellion that causes
desolation, and the surrender of the sanctuary and of the host to be
trampled?”
Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man
Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening
oblation.
while I was still praying,
Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening
sacrifice.
And he shall
confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the
sacrifice and the
oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it
desolate, even until the
consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the
desolate.
And he will
confirm a covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put an end to
sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of the temple will come the
abomination that causes
desolation, until the decreed destruction is poured out upon him.”
And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall
pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily
sacrifice, and they shall place the
abomination that maketh
desolate.
And from the time that the daily
sacrifice shall be taken away, and the
abomination that maketh
desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and
ninety days.
And from the time the daily
sacrifice is abolished and the
abomination of
desolation set up, there will be 1,290 days.
For the children of Israel shall
abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a
sacrifice, and without an image, and without an
ephod, and without
teraphim:
For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince, without
sacrifice or sacred
pillar, and without
ephod or
idol.
They
sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit
whoredom, and your spouses shall commit
adultery.
They
sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, under oak,
poplar, and
terebinth, because their shade is pleasant. And so your daughters turn to
prostitution and your daughters-in-law to
adultery.
I will not
punish your daughters when they commit
whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit
adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they
sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that
doth not understand shall fall.
I will not
punish your daughters when they
prostitute themselves, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit
adultery. For the men themselves go off with prostitutes and offer
sacrifices with
shrine prostitutes. So a people without understanding will come to ruin.
The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be
ashamed because of their
sacrifices.
The
whirlwind has
wrapped them in its wings, and their
sacrifices will bring them shame.
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
Though they offer
sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and
punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.
They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their
sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be
polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.
They will not pour out wine offerings to the LORD, and their
sacrifices will not please Him, but will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat will be
defiled. For their bread will be for themselves; it will not enter the house of the LORD.
As they called them, so they went from them: they
sacrificed unto
Baalim, and burned incense to
graven images.
But the more I called Israel, the farther they departed from Me. They sacrificed to the Baals and burned incense to carved images.
Is there iniquity in
Gilead? surely they are vanity: they
sacrifice bullocks in
Gilgal;
yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
Is there iniquity in
Gilead? They will surely come to nothing. Do they
sacrifice bulls in
Gilgal? Indeed, their altars will be heaps of stones in the furrows of the field.
And now they sin more and more, and have made them
molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the
craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that
sacrifice kiss the
calves.
Now they sin more and more and make for themselves cast images, idols
skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of
craftsmen. People say of them, “They offer human
sacrifice and
kiss the
calves!”
Offer
leavened bread as a
thank offering, and loudly
proclaim your
freewill offerings. For that is what you children of Israel love to do,” declares the Lord GOD.
Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
Then the men feared the LORD greatly, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to Him.
But I will
sacrifice unto thee with the voice of
thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have
vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
But I, with the voice of
thanksgiving, will
sacrifice to You. I will
fulfill what I have
vowed. Salvation is from the LORD!”
Therefore they
sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their
drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat
plenteous.
Therefore he
sacrifices to his
dragnet and burns incense to his fishing net, for by these things his portion is
sumptuous and his food is rich.
Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a
sacrifice, he hath
bid his guests.
Be silent in the presence of the Lord GOD, for the Day of the LORD is near. Indeed, the LORD has prepared a sacrifice; He has consecrated His guests.
And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’S
sacrifice, that I will
punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange
apparel.
“On the Day of the LORD’s
sacrifice I will
punish the princes, the sons of the king, and all who are dressed in foreign
apparel.
Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be
holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that
sacrifice shall come and take of them, and
seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the
Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.
Indeed, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the LORD of Hosts, and all who
sacrifice will come and take some pots and
cook in them. And on that day there will no longer be a
Canaanite in the house of the LORD of Hosts.
And if ye offer the blind for
sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the
lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
When you offer blind animals for
sacrifice, is it not wrong? And when you present the
lame and sick ones, is it not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you or show you favor?” asks the LORD of Hosts.
But
cursed be the
deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and
sacrificeth unto the LORD a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is
dreadful among the heathen.
“But
cursed is the
deceiver who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but
sacrifices a defective animal to the Lord. For I am a great King,” says the LORD of Hosts, “and My name is to be feared among the nations.
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not
sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance.
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
If only you had known the meaning of ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.
For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
and to love Him with all your heart and with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your
neighbor as
yourself, which is more important than all burnt offerings and
sacrifices.”
And the first day of
unleavened bread, when they killed the
passover, his disciples said unto him, Where
wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the
passover?
On the first day of the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, when the
Passover lamb was to be
sacrificed, Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the
Passover?”
And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
and to offer the sacrifice specified in the Law of the Lord: “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”
There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood
Pilate had mingled with their
sacrifices.
At that time some of those present told Jesus about the
Galileans whose blood
Pilate had mixed with their
sacrifices.
And they made a
calf in those days, and offered
sacrifice unto the
idol, and
rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
At that time they made a
calf and offered a
sacrifice to the
idol,
rejoicing in the works of their hands.
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘Did you bring Me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and
wreaths to the city gates, hoping to offer a
sacrifice along with the crowds.
And with these sayings
scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done
sacrifice unto them.
Even with these words, Paul and
Barnabas could hardly stop the crowds from sacrificing to them.
You must
abstain from food
sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from
strangled, and from
fornication.
As for the
Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they must
abstain from food
sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of
strangled animals, and from sexual immorality.”
Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the
forbearance of God;
I
beseech you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Therefore I
urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in
sacrifice unto idols, we know that an
idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
So about eating food
sacrificed to idols: We know that an
idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one.
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the
idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an
idol; and their conscience being weak is
defiled.
But not
everyone has this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such food as if it were
sacrificed to an
idol. And since their conscience is weak, it is
defiled.
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the
idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be
emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
For if someone with a weak conscience sees you who are well informed eating in an
idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged to eat food
sacrificed to idols?
Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
Consider the people of Israel: Are not those who eat the sacrifices fellow partakers in the altar?
What say I then? that the
idol is any thing, or that which is offered in
sacrifice to idols is any thing?
Am I suggesting, then, that food
sacrificed to an
idol is anything, or that an
idol is anything?
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles
sacrifice, they
sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have
fellowship with devils.
No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to be participants with demons.
But if any man say unto you, This is offered in
sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the
fulness thereof:
But if someone tells you, “This food was offered to idols,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience—
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a
fragrant sacrificial offering to God.
Yea, and if I be offered upon the
sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and
rejoice with you all.
But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the
sacrifice and service of your faith, I am
glad and
rejoice with all of you.
But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
I have all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts from Epaphroditus. They are a
fragrant offering, an acceptable
sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Every high priest is appointed from among men to represent them in matters relating to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
And by reason
hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
That is why he is
obligated to offer
sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.
For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
And since every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, it was necessary for this One also to have something to offer.
Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
It is an illustration for the present time, because the gifts and
sacrifices being offered were unable to
cleanse the conscience of the worshiper.
It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be
purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better
sacrifices than these.
So it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be
purified with these
sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better
sacrifices than these.
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Otherwise, Christ would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those
sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers
thereunto perfect.
For the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the
realities themselves. It can never, by the same
sacrifices offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
But in those
sacrifices there is a
remembrance again made of sins every year.
Instead, those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins,
Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me.
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
In burnt offerings and sin offerings You took no delight.
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
In the passage above He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor did You delight in them” (although they are offered according to the law).
By the which will we are
sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
And by that will, we have been
sanctified through the
sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering
oftentimes the same
sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
Day after day every priest stands to minister and to offer again and again the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
But when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God.
For if we sin
wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more
sacrifice for sins,
If we
deliberately go on
sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further
sacrifice for sins remains,
By faith
Abel offered unto God a more excellent
sacrifice than
Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God
testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
By faith
Abel offered God a better
sacrifice than
Cain did. By faith he was
commended as righteous when God gave
approval to his gifts. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.
For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
Although the high priest brings the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, the bodies are burned outside the camp.
By him therefore let us offer the
sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving
thanks to his name.
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a
sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that
confess His name.
But to do good and to communicate
forget not: for with such
sacrifices God is well pleased.
And do not neglect to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
And he is the
propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
He Himself is the
atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the
propitiation for our sins.
And love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as the
atoning sacrifice for our sins.
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of
Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things
sacrificed unto idols, and to commit
fornication.
But I have a few things against you, because some of you hold to the teaching of
Balaam, who taught Balak to place a
stumbling block before the Israelites so they would eat food
sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman
Jezebel, which calleth herself a
prophetess, to teach and to
seduce my servants to commit
fornication, and to eat things
sacrificed unto idols.
But I have this against you: You
tolerate that woman
Jezebel, who calls herself a
prophetess. By her teaching she misleads My servants to be sexually immoral and to eat food
sacrificed to idols.
Offer the
passover in order, and make ready the
sacrifices for your brethren, and keep the
passover according to the commandment of the Lord, which was given unto Moses.
And they
roasted the
passover with fire, as appertaineth: as for the
sacrifices, they
sod them in brass pots and pans with a good savour,
Thus were the things that belonged to the
sacrifices of the Lord accomplished in that day, that they might hold the
passover,
And offer sacrifices upon the altar of the Lord, according to the commandment of king Josias.
To offer burnt sacrifices upon it, according as it is expressly commanded in the book of Moses the man of God.
And there were gathered unto them out of the other nations of the land, and they erected the altar upon his own place, because all the nations of the land were at
enmity with them, and
oppressed them; and they offered
sacrifices according to the time, and burnt offerings to the Lord both morning and evening.
Also they held the feast of tabernacles, as it is commanded in the law, and offered sacrifices daily, as was meet:
And after that, the continual oblations, and the sacrifice of the sabbaths, and of the new moons, and of all holy feasts.
And all they that had made any
vow to God began to offer
sacrifices to God from the first day of the seventh month, although the temple of the Lord was not yet built.
For we likewise, as ye, do obey your Lord, and do
sacrifice unto him from the days of Azbazareth the king of the Assyrians, who brought us
hither.
In the first year of the reign of Cyrus king Cyrus commanded that the house of the Lord at Jerusalem should be built again, where they do sacrifice with continual fire:
And out of the tribute of Celosyria and Phenice a portion carefully to be given these men for the sacrifices of the Lord, that is, to Zorobabel the governor, for bullocks, and rams, and lambs;
To the end that they may offer sacrifices unto the Lord upon the altar of the Lord their God, which is in Jerusalem.
Moreover they that were come out of the captivity offered
sacrifice unto the Lord God of Israel, even twelve bullocks for all Israel,
fourscore and sixteen rams,
Threescore and twelve lambs, goats for a peace offering, twelve; all of them a
sacrifice to the Lord.
So all they that were then moved at the word of the Lord God of Israel assembled unto me, whilst I
mourned for the iniquity: but I sat still full of
heaviness until the evening
sacrifice.
And when I was in mine own country, in the land of Israel being but young, all the tribe of Nephthali my father fell from the house of Jerusalem, which was chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, that all the tribes should
sacrifice there, where the temple of the
habitation of the most High was consecrated and built for all ages.
Now all the tribes which together revolted, and the house of my father Nephthali,
sacrificed unto the
heifer Baal.
For all sacrifice is too little for a sweet savour unto thee, and all the fat is not sufficient for thy burnt offering: but he that feareth the Lord is great at all times.
Whom thou hatedst for doing most
odious works of witchcrafts, and wicked
sacrifices;
