And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.
Pharaoh also
said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you would be
stopping them from their labor.”
And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
So the taskmasters and
foremen of the people went out and
said to them, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I am no longer giving you straw.
But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.
“You are slackers!” Pharaoh replied. “Slackers! That is why you keep saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.’
And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was
said, Ye shall not
minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.
The
Israelite foremen realized they were in trouble when they were told, “You must not reduce your daily
quota of bricks.”
And they
said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be
abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to
slay us.
“May the LORD look upon you and judge you,” the
foremen said, “for you have made us a
stench before Pharaoh and his officials; you have placed in their hand a sword to kill us!”
And Moses returned unto the LORD, and
said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil
entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?
So Moses returned to the LORD and asked, “Lord, why have You brought trouble upon this people? Is this why You sent me?
Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.
But the LORD said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, for because of My mighty hand he will let the people go; because of My strong hand he will drive them out of his land.”
And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:
God also told Moses, “I am the LORD.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
So the LORD said to Moses,
These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.
It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.”
That the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I am the LORD: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee.
He said to him, “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I say to you.”
And Moses
said before the LORD, Behold, I am of
uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh
hearken unto me?
But in the LORD’s presence Moses replied, “Since I am unskilled in speech, why would Pharaoh
listen to me?”
And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
The LORD answered Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.
And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,
And he
hardened Pharaoh’s heart, that he
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had
said.
Still, Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not
listen to them, just as the LORD had
said.
And the LORD
said unto Moses, Pharaoh’s heart is
hardened, he refuseth to let the people go.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
And the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their rivers and canals and ponds and reservoirs—that they may become blood.’ There will be blood throughout the land of Egypt, even in the vessels of wood and stone.”
And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, neither did he
hearken unto them; as the LORD had
said.
But the magicians of Egypt did the same things by their magic arts. So Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not
listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had
said.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.
And the LORD
said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers and canals and ponds, and cause the frogs to come up
onto the land of Egypt.’”
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.
Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the LORD to take the frogs away from me and my people. Then I will let your people go, that they may sacrifice to the LORD.”
And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor over me. When shall I pray for you and your officials and your people that the frogs (except for those in the Nile) may be taken away from you and your houses?”
And he
said, To
morrow. And he
said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.
“
Tomorrow,” Pharaoh answered. “May it be as you say,” Moses replied, “so that you may know that there is no one like the LORD our God.
But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he
hardened his heart, and
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had
said.
When Pharaoh saw that there was relief, however, he
hardened his heart and would not
listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had
said.
And the LORD
said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and
smite the dust of the land, that it may become
lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may turn into swarms of gnats throughout the land of Egypt.’”
Then the magicians
said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had
said.
“This is the finger of God,” the magicians
said to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not
listen to them, just as the LORD had
said.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within this land.”
And Moses
said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
But Moses replied, “It would not be right to do that, because the sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be
detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices that are
detestable before the Egyptians, will they not stone us?
And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.
Pharaoh answered, “I will let you go and sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.”
And Moses
said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of
flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to
morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal
deceitfully any more in not
letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.
“As soon as I leave you,” Moses
said, “I will pray to the LORD, so that
tomorrow the swarms of
flies will depart from Pharaoh and his officials and his people. But Pharaoh must not act
deceitfully again by refusing to let the people go and sacrifice to the LORD.”
Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses

toss it into the air.

hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.

said to Moses.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

And the LORD
said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be
hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every
herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD
said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that
hail may fall on all the land of Egypt—on man and beast and every plant of the field throughout the land of Egypt.”
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and
said unto them, I have
sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have
sinned,” he
said. “The LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
And Moses
said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the
thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more
hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the LORD’S.
Moses
said to him, “When I have left the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD. The
thunder will cease, and there will be no more
hail, so that you may know that the earth is the LORD’s.
And the heart of Pharaoh was
hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.
So Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the LORD had
said through Moses.
And the LORD
said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have
hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might
shew these my signs before him:
Then the LORD
said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have
hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials, that I may perform these
miraculous signs of Mine among them,
And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and
said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long
wilt thou refuse to humble
thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, “This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble
yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
And Pharaoh’s servants
said unto him, How long shall this man be a
snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?
Pharaoh’s officials asked him, “How long will this man be a
snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet
realize that Egypt is in ruins?”
And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go?
So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship the LORD your God,” he said. “But who exactly will be going?”
And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.
“We will go with our young and old,” Moses replied. “We will go with our sons and daughters, and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the LORD.”
And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you.
Then Pharaoh told them, “May the LORD be with you if I ever let you go with your little ones. Clearly you are bent on evil.
And the LORD
said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every
herb of the land, even all that the
hail hath left.
Then the LORD
said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, so that the locusts may
swarm over it and
devour every plant in the land—everything that the
hail has left behind.”
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in
haste; and he
said, I have
sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.
Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and
said, “I have
sinned against the LORD your God and against you.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.
Then the LORD
said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that darkness may spread over the land of Egypt—a
palpable darkness.”
And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the LORD. Even your little ones may go with you; only your flocks and herds must stay behind.”
And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God.
But Moses replied, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God.
And Pharaoh
said unto him, Get thee from me, take
heed to
thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die.
“Depart from me!” Pharaoh said to Moses. “Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.”
And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.
“As you say,” Moses replied, “I will never see your face again.”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will bring upon Pharaoh and Egypt one more plague. After that, he will allow you to leave this place. And when he lets you go, he will drive you out completely.
And Moses
said, Thus saith the LORD, About
midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:
So Moses declared, “This is what the LORD says: ‘About
midnight I will go throughout Egypt,
And the LORD
said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not
hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.
The LORD
said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not
listen to you, so that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,
Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and
said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the
passover.
Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and told them, “Go at once and select for
yourselves a lamb for each family, and slaughter the
Passover lamb.
And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron by night and said, “Get up, leave my people, both you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested.
Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have
said, and be gone; and
bless me also.
Take your flocks and herds as well, just as you have
said, and depart! And
bless me also.”
And the Egyptians were
urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in
haste; for they
said, We be all dead men.
And in order to send them out of the land quickly, the Egyptians urged the people on. “For otherwise,” they said, “we are all going to die!”
And the LORD
said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the
ordinance of the
passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof:
And the LORD
said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the statute of the
Passover: No foreigner is to eat of it.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
And Moses
said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of
bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no
leavened bread be eaten.
So Moses told the people, “Remember this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; for the LORD brought you out of it by the strength of His hand. And nothing
leavened shall be eaten.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God
said, Lest
peradventure the people
repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road through the land of the Philistines, though it was shorter. For God said, “If the people face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly
sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.
Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the sons of Israel
swear a solemn oath when he
said, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my bones with you from this place.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said, “What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us.”
And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us into the wilderness to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
And Moses
said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will
shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
But Moses told the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the LORD’s salvation, which He will
accomplish for you
today; for the Egyptians you see
today, you will never see again.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to go forward.
And took off their
chariot wheels, that they
drave them
heavily: so that the Egyptians
said, Let us
flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
He caused their
chariot wheels to
wobble, so that they had difficulty driving. “Let us
flee from the Israelites,”
said the Egyptians, “for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!”
And the LORD
said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their
chariots, and upon their
horsemen.
Then the LORD
said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their
chariots and
horsemen.”
The enemy
said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the
spoil; my
lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.
The enemy declared, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake. I will divide the spoils; I will
gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them.’
And
said, If thou
wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and
wilt do that which is right in his sight, and
wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
saying, “If you will
listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, and pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, then I will not bring on you any of the diseases I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”
And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
“If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt!” they
said. “There we sat by pots of meat and
ate our fill of bread, but you have brought us into this desert to
starve this whole assembly to death!”
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “This evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
And Moses
said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye
murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
And Moses added, “The LORD will give you meat to eat this evening and bread to fill you in the morning, for He has heard your
grumbling against Him. Who are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the LORD.”
And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.
Then Moses
said to Aaron, “Tell the whole congregation of Israel, ‘Come before the LORD, for He has heard your
grumbling.’”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
And when the children of Israel saw it, they
said one to another, It is
manna: for they
wist not what it was. And Moses
said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. So Moses told them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.
And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
Then Moses said to them, “No one may keep any of it until morning.”
And he
said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath
said, To
morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD:
bake that which ye will
bake to day, and
seethe that ye will
seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
He told them, “This is what the LORD has
said: ‘
Tomorrow is to be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. So
bake what you want to
bake, and
boil what you want to
boil. Then set aside whatever remains and keep it until morning.’”
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
“Eat it
today,” Moses
said, “because
today is a Sabbath to the LORD.
Today you will not find anything in the field.
And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep My commandments and instructions?
And Moses
said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an
omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread
wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.
Moses
said, “This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Keep an
omer of
manna for the generations to come, so that they may see the bread I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”
And Moses
said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an
omer full of
manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.
So Moses told Aaron, “Take a
jar and fill it with an
omer of
manna. Then place it before the LORD to be preserved for the generations to come.”
Wherefore the people did
chide with Moses, and
said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses
said unto them, Why
chide ye with me? wherefore do ye
tempt the LORD?
So the people
contended with Moses, “Give us water to drink.” “Why do you
contend with me?” Moses replied. “Why do you test the LORD?”
And the people
thirsted there for water; and the people
murmured against Moses, and
said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with
thirst?
But the people
thirsted for water there, and they grumbled against Moses: “Why have you brought us out of Egypt—to make us and our children and
livestock die of
thirst?”
And the LORD
said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod,
wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
And the LORD
said to Moses, “Walk on
ahead of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Take along in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.
And Moses
said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to
morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
So Moses
said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the
Amalekites.
Tomorrow I will stand on the
hilltop with the staff of God in my hand.”
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Joshua did as Moses had
instructed him and fought against the
Amalekites, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
And the LORD
said unto Moses, Write this for a
memorial in a book, and
rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the
remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
Then the LORD
said to Moses, “Write this on a
scroll as a reminder and
recite it to Joshua, because I will utterly
blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”
For he
said, Because the LORD hath
sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
“Indeed,” he said, “a hand was lifted up toward the throne of the LORD. The LORD will war against Amalek from generation to generation.”
And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he
said, I have been an
alien in a strange land:
along with her two sons. One son was named Gershom, for Moses had said, “I have been a foreigner in a foreign land.”
And the name of the other was
Eliezer; for the God of my father,
said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:
The other son was named
Eliezer, for Moses had
said, “The God of my father was my helper and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.”
And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
He sent word to Moses, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, am coming to you with your wife and her two sons.”
And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
Jethro declared, “Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and of Pharaoh, and who has delivered the people from the hand of the Egyptians.
And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he
said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou
thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone as judge, with all the people standing around you from morning till evening?”
And Moses
said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to
enquire of God:
“Because the people come to me to inquire of God,” Moses replied.
