said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will

shepherd all my life to this day,
And Joseph
said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the
firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.
“Not so, my father!” Joseph
said. “This one is the
firstborn; put your right hand on his head.”
And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.

All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
These are the tribes of Israel, twelve in all, and this was what their father said to them. He blessed them, and he blessed each one with a suitable blessing.
And he charged them, and
said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people:

My father made me
swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have
digged for me in the land of
Canaan, there shalt thou
bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and
bury my father, and I will come again.
my father made me
swear an oath when he
said, ‘I am about to die. You must
bury me in the tomb that I
dug for myself in the land of
Canaan.’ Now let me go and
bury my father, and then return.”
And Pharaoh
said, Go up, and
bury thy father, according as he made thee
swear.
Pharaoh replied, “Go up and
bury your father, as he made you
swear to do.”
And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they
said, Joseph will
peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they
said, “What if Joseph bears a
grudge? Then he will surely repay us for all the evil that we did to him.”
And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
His brothers also came to him, bowed down before him, and said, “We are your slaves!”
And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew
midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
Then the king of Egypt
said to the Hebrew
midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah,
And he
said, When ye do the office of a
midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
“When you help the Hebrew women give birth, observe them on the birthstools. If the child is a son, kill him; but if it is a daughter, let her live.”
And the king of Egypt called for the
midwives, and
said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
So the king of Egypt summoned the
midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
And the
midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered
ere the
midwives come in unto them.
The
midwives answered Pharaoh, “The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before a
midwife arrives.”
And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the
babe wept. And she had
compassion on him, and
said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.
When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the little boy was crying. So she had
compassion on him and
said, “This is one of the Hebrew children.”
Then
said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a
nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may
nurse the child for thee?
Then his sister
said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call one of the Hebrew women to
nurse the child for you?”
And Pharaoh’s daughter
said to her, Go. And the
maid went and called the child’s mother.
“Go
ahead,” Pharaoh’s daughter told her. And the
girl went and called the boy’s mother.
And Pharaoh’s daughter
said unto her, Take this child away, and
nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and
nursed it.
Pharaoh’s daughter
said to her, “Take this child and
nurse him for me, and I will pay your wages.” So the woman took the boy and
nursed him.
And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
When the child had grown older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses and explained, “I drew him out of the water.”
And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews
strove together: and he
said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
The next day Moses went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you attacking your companion?”
And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
But the man replied, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you
planning to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “This thing I have done has surely become known.”
And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?
When the daughters returned to their father Reuel, he asked them, “Why have you returned so early
today?”
And they
said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the
shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
“An Egyptian
rescued us from the
shepherds,” they replied. “He even drew water for us and watered the flock.”
And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
“So where is he?” their father asked. “Why did you leave the man behind?
Invite him to have something to eat.”
And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.
And she gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, saying, “I have become a foreigner in a foreign land.”
And Moses
said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the
bush is not burnt.
So Moses thought, “I must go over and see this
marvelous sight. Why is the
bush not burning up?”
And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the
bush, and
said, Moses, Moses. And he
said, Here am I.
When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from within the
bush, “Moses, Moses!” “Here I am,” he answered.
And he
said, Draw not
nigh hither: put off thy
shoes from off thy feet, for the place
whereon thou standest is holy ground.
“Do not come any closer,” God
said. “Take off your
sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
Moreover he
said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses
hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
Then He
said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses
hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
And the LORD
said, I have surely seen the
affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
The LORD
said, “I have indeed seen the
affliction of My people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their oppressors, and I am aware of their sufferings.
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
But Moses asked God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
And he
said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a
token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
“I will surely be with you,” God said, “and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship God on this mountain.”
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
Then Moses asked God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is His name?’ What should I tell them?”
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
And God
said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my
memorial unto all generations.
God also told Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is My name
forever, and this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.
Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
Go,
assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—has appeared to me and
said: I have surely attended to you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt.
And Moses answered and
said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor
hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.
Then Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or
listen to my voice? For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’”
And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
And the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied.
And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
“Throw it on the ground,”
said the LORD. So Moses threw it on the ground, and it became a
snake, and he ran from it.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
“Stretch out your hand and
grab it by the tail,” the LORD
said to Moses, who reached out his hand and caught the
snake, and it turned back into a staff in his hand.
And the LORD
said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy
bosom. And he put his hand into his
bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was
leprous as snow.
Furthermore, the LORD
said to Moses, “Put your hand inside your
cloak.” So he put his hand inside his
cloak, and when he took it out, his hand was
leprous, white as snow.
And he
said, Put thine hand into thy
bosom again. And he put his hand into his
bosom again; and
plucked it out of his
bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
“Put your hand back inside your
cloak,”
said the LORD. So Moses put his hand back inside his
cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his skin.
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither
hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
And the LORD
said, “If they refuse to believe you or
heed the witness of the first sign, they may believe that of the second.
And Moses
said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not
eloquent, neither
heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
“Please, Lord,” Moses replied, “I have never been
eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant, for I am slow of speech and tongue.”
And the LORD
said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the
dumb, or
deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
And the LORD
said to him, “Who gave man his mouth? Or who makes the
mute or the
deaf, the sighted or the blind? Is it not I, the LORD?
And he
said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou
wilt send.
But Moses replied, “Please, Lord, send someone else.”
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Moses, and he
said, Is not Aaron the
Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he
seeth thee, he will be
glad in his heart.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He
said, “Is not Aaron the
Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well, and he is now on his way to meet you. When he sees you, he will be
glad in his heart.
And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
Then Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, “Please let me return to my brothers in Egypt to see if they are still alive.” “Go in peace,” Jethro replied.
And the LORD
said unto Moses in
Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.
Now the LORD had
said to Moses in
Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all the men who sought to kill you are dead.”
And the LORD
said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will
harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
The LORD
instructed Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders that I have put within your power. But I will
harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.
Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the
foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and
said, Surely a
bloody husband art thou to me.
But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s
foreskin, and touched it to Moses’ feet. “Surely you are a
bridegroom of blood to me,” she
said.
And the LORD
said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and
kissed him.
Meanwhile, the LORD had
said to Aaron, “Go and meet Moses in the wilderness.” So he went and met Moses at the mountain of God and
kissed him.
And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
and Aaron relayed everything the LORD had said to Moses. And Moses performed the signs before the people,
And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
After that, Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’”
And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
But Pharaoh replied, “Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and I will not let Israel go.”
And they
said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with
pestilence, or with the sword.
“The God of the Hebrews has met with us,” they answered. “Please let us go on a three-day journey into the wilderness to sacrifice to the LORD our God, or He may strike us with plagues or with the sword.”
And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
But the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why do you draw the people away from their work? Get back to your labor!”
