Balaam and said, “This is what Balak son of Zippor
says: ‘Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me,
For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do
whatsoever thou
sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee,
curse me this people.
for I will honor you richly and do whatever you
say. So please come and put a
curse on this people for me!’”
Now therefore, I pray you,
tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will
say unto me more.
So now, please stay here overnight as the others did, that I may find out what else the LORD has to tell me.”
And God came unto

If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?

accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the LORD? I will speak whatever the LORD
says.

But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.

On the east side of the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain this law, saying:
The LORD our God spake unto us in
Horeb,
saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:
The LORD our God said to us at
Horeb: “You have stayed at this mountain long enough.
And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:
At that time I said to you, “I cannot carry the burden for you alone.
And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
At that time I charged your judges: “Hear the disputes between your brothers, and judge fairly between a man and his brother or a foreign resident.
and the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:
The plan seemed good to me, so I selected twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.
Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart,
saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.
Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts
melt,
saying: ‘The people are larger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the heavens. We even saw the descendants of the
Anakim there.’”
