Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they
weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh,
that we may eat.
Where can I get meat for all these people? For they keep crying out to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’
And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Bring Me seventy of the elders of Israel known to you as leaders and officers of the people. Bring them to the Tent of Meeting and have them stand there with you.
And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee,
that thou bear it not
thyself alone.
And I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the Spirit
that is on you and put
that Spirit on them. They will help you bear the burden of the people, so
that you do not have to bear it by
yourself.
But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be
loathsome unto you: because
that ye have
despised the LORD which is among you, and have
wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?
but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and makes you
nauseous—because you have rejected the LORD, who is among you, and have
cried out before Him, saying, ‘Why did we ever leave Egypt?’”
And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand
footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh,
that they may eat a whole month.
But Moses replied, “Here I am among 600,000 men on foot, yet You say, ‘I will give them meat, and they will eat for a month.’
And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit
that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass,
that, when the spirit rested upon them, they
prophesied, and did not cease.
Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and He took some of the Spirit
that was on Moses and placed
that Spirit on the seventy elders. As the Spirit rested on them, they
prophesied—but they never did so again.
But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was
Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them
that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they
prophesied in the camp.
Two men, however, had remained in the camp—one named
Eldad and the other Medad—and the Spirit rested on them. They were among those listed, but they had not gone out to the tent, and they
prophesied in the camp.
And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
But Moses replied, “Are you
jealous on my account? I wish
that all the LORD’s people were prophets and
that the LORD would place His Spirit on them!”
And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
All
that day and night, and all the next day, the people stayed up gathering the
quail. No one gathered less than ten homers, and they spread them out all around the camp.
And he called the name of
that place
Kibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people
that lusted.
So they called
that place
Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had
craved other food.
And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold,
Miriam became
leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon
Miriam, and, behold, she was
leprous.
As the cloud lifted from above the Tent, suddenly
Miriam became
leprous, white as snow. Aaron turned toward her, saw
that she was
leprous,
And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but
spit in her face, should she not be
ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after
that let her be received in again.
But the LORD answered Moses, “If her father had but
spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Let her be confined outside the camp for seven days; after
that she may be brought back in.”
And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of
Paran.
After
that, the people set out from Hazeroth and camped in the Wilderness of
Paran.
Send thou men,
that they may search the land of
Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
“Send out for
yourself men to
spy out the land of
Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each of their fathers’ tribes send one man who is a leader among them.”
And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
See what the land is like and whether its people are strong or weak, few or many.
And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
Is the land where they live good or bad? Are the cities where they dwell open camps or fortifications?
The place was called the
brook Eshcol, because of the
cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
Because of the
cluster of grapes the Israelites cut there,
that place was called the Valley of
Eshcol.
Nevertheless the people be strong
that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of
Anak there.
Nevertheless, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We even saw the descendants of
Anak there.
But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
But the men who had gone up with him replied, “We cannot go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are!”
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land
that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people
that we saw in it are men of a great
stature.
So they gave the Israelites a bad report about the land
that they had
spied out: “The land we
explored devours its inhabitants, and all the people we saw there are great in
stature.
And there we saw the giants, the sons of
Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
We even saw the
Nephilim there—the descendants of
Anak that come from the
Nephilim! We seemed like grasshoppers in our own sight, and we must have seemed the same to them!”
And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and
cried; and the people
wept that night.
Then the whole congregation lifted up their voices and
cried out, and
that night the people
wept.
And all the children of Israel
murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God
that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!
And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
Why is the LORD bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and children will become
plunder. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?”
And Joshua the son of
Nun, and
Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them
that searched the land, rent their clothes:
Joshua son of
Nun and
Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had
spied out the land,
tore their clothes
And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard
that thou LORD art among this people,
that thou LORD art seen face to face, and
that thy cloud standeth over them, and
that thou goest before them, by
daytime in a
pillar of a cloud, and in a
pillar of fire by night.
And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have already heard
that You, O LORD, are in the midst of this people,
that You, O LORD, have been seen face to face,
that Your cloud stands over them, and
that You go before them in a
pillar of cloud by day and a
pillar of fire by night.
Surely they shall not see the land which I
sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them
that provoked me see it:
not one will ever see the land
that I
swore to give their fathers. None of those who have treated Me with contempt will see it.
How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which
murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they
murmur against me.
“How long will this wicked congregation
grumble against Me? I have heard the complaints
that the Israelites are making against Me.
Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all
that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have
murmured against me,
Your bodies will fall in this wilderness—all who were numbered in the census,
everyone twenty years of age or older—because you have grumbled against Me.
I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this entire wicked congregation, which has
conspired against Me. They will meet their end in the wilderness, and there they will die.”
Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
those men who had brought out the bad report about the land—were struck down by a plague before the LORD.
But Joshua the son of
Nun, and
Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men
that went to search the land, lived still.
Of those men who had gone to
spy out the land, only Joshua son of
Nun and
Caleb son of Jephunneh remained alive.
Go not up, for the LORD is not among you;
that ye be not
smitten before your enemies.
Do not go up, lest you be struck down by your enemies, because the LORD is not among you.
Then the
Amalekites and
Canaanites who lived in
that part of the hill country came down, attacked them, and routed them all the way to Hormah.
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you,
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them: After you enter the land that I am giving you as a home
Then shall he
that offereth his offering unto the LORD bring a meat offering of a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an
hin of oil.
then the one presenting his offering to the LORD shall also present a grain offering of a tenth of an
ephah of fine flour mixed with a quarter
hin of olive oil.
According to the number that ye shall prepare, so shall ye do to every one according to their number.
This is how you must prepare each one, no matter how many.
All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
Everyone who is native-born shall prepare these things in this way when he presents an offering made by fire as a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
One
ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger
that sojourneth with you, an
ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD.
The assembly is to have the same statute both for you and for the foreign resident; it is a permanent statute for the generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the LORD.
One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.
The same law and the same
ordinance will apply both to you and to the foreigner residing with you.”
Then it shall be,
that, when ye eat of the bread of the land, ye shall offer up an
heave offering unto the LORD.
and you eat the food of the land, you shall lift up an offering to the LORD.
And if ye have
erred, and not observed all these commandments, which the LORD hath spoken unto Moses,
Now if you
stray unintentionally and do not obey all these commandments
that the LORD has spoken to Moses—
Even all
that the LORD hath commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day
that the LORD commanded Moses, and
henceforward among your generations;
all that the LORD has commanded you through Moses from the day the LORD gave them and continuing through the generations to come—
Then it shall be, if ought be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation,
that all the congregation shall offer one young
bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the LORD, with his meat offering, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one
kid of the goats for a sin offering.
and if it was done
unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, then the whole congregation is to prepare one young bull as a burnt offering, a pleasing
aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and drink offering according to the regulation, and one male goat as a sin offering.
And the priest shall make an
atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be
forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD, and their sin offering before the LORD, for their ignorance:
The priest is to make
atonement for the whole congregation of Israel, so
that they may be
forgiven; for the sin was
unintentional and they have brought to the LORD an offering made by fire and a sin offering, presented before the LORD for their
unintentional sin.
And it shall be
forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger
that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.
Then the whole congregation of Israel and the foreigners residing among them will be
forgiven, since it happened to all the people
unintentionally.
And the priest shall make an
atonement for the soul
that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an
atonement for him; and it shall be
forgiven him.
Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
You shall have the same law for the one who acts in error, whether he is a native-born
Israelite or a foreigner residing among you.
But the soul
that doeth ought
presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and
that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
But the person who sins defiantly, whether a native or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD. That person shall be cut off from among his people.
Because he hath
despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment,
that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.
He shall certainly be cut off, because he has
despised the word of the LORD and broken His commandment; his guilt remains on him.”
And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
While the Israelites were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day.
And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
Those who found the man gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and
bid them
that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and
that they put upon the
fringe of the borders a
ribband of blue:
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them
that throughout the generations to come they are to make for themselves tassels for the corners of their garments, with a blue cord on each
tassel.
And it shall be unto you for a
fringe,
that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and
that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a
whoring:
These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so
that you may remember all the commandments of the LORD,
that you may obey them and not
prostitute yourselves by following your own heart and your own eyes.
That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.
Then you will remember and obey all My commandments, and you will be holy to your God.
And he spake unto
Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to
morrow the LORD will
shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
Then he said to
Korah and all his followers, “
Tomorrow morning the LORD will
reveal who belongs to Him and who is holy, and He will bring
that person near to Himself. The one He chooses, He will bring near to Himself.
And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to
morrow: and it shall be
that the man whom the LORD
doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.
and
tomorrow you are to place fire and incense in them in the presence of the LORD. Then the man the LORD chooses will be the one who is holy. It is you sons of Levi who have taken too much upon
yourselves!”
Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
Is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel and brought you near to Himself to perform the work at the LORD’s tabernacle, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?
For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron,
that ye
murmur against him?
Therefore, it is you and all your followers who have
conspired against the LORD! As for Aaron, who is he
that you should
grumble against him?”
Is it a small thing
that thou hast brought us up out of a land
that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make
thyself altogether a prince over us?
Is it not enough
that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness? Must you also
appoint yourself as ruler over us?
Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land
that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards:
wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.
Moreover, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey or given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you
gouge out the eyes of these men? No, we will not come!”
Separate
yourselves from among this congregation,
that I may
consume them in a moment.
“Separate
yourselves from this congregation so
that I may
consume them in an instant.”
And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
And he
warned the congregation, “Move away now from the tents of these wicked men. Do not touch anything
that belongs to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.”
And Moses said,
Hereby ye shall know
that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.
Then Moses said, “This is how you will know that the LORD has sent me to do all these things, for it was not my own doing:
But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and
swallow them up, with all
that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand
that these men have
provoked the LORD.
But if the LORD brings about something
unprecedented, and the earth opens its mouth and
swallows them and all
that belongs to them so
that they go down alive into
Sheol, then you will know
that these men have treated the LORD with contempt.”
And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words,
that the ground
clave asunder that was under them:
As soon as Moses had finished saying all this, the ground beneath them split open,
And the earth opened her mouth, and
swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men
that appertained unto
Korah, and all their goods.
and the earth opened its mouth and
swallowed them and their households—all
Korah’s men and all their possessions.
They, and all
that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
They went down alive into
Sheol with all they owned. The earth closed over them, and they
vanished from the assembly.
And all Israel
that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth
swallow us up also.
At their
cries, all the people of Israel who were around them fled, saying, “The earth may
swallow us too!”
And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
And fire came forth from the LORD and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense.
Speak unto
Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest,
that he take up the censers out of the burning, and
scatter thou the fire
yonder; for they are
hallowed.
“Tell
Eleazar son of Aaron the priest to remove the censers from the flames and to
scatter the coals far away, because the censers are holy.
And
Eleazar the priest took the
brasen censers,
wherewith they
that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
So
Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers brought by those who had been burned up, and he had them hammered out to overlay the altar,
To be a
memorial unto the children of Israel,
that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD;
that he be not as
Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
just as the LORD commanded him through Moses. This was to be a reminder to the Israelites
that no outsider who is not a
descendant of Aaron should approach to offer incense before the LORD, lest he become like
Korah and his followers.
And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
But when the congregation gathered against them, Moses and Aaron turned toward the Tent of Meeting, and suddenly the cloud covered it and the glory of the LORD appeared.
Get you up from among this congregation,
that I may
consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
“Get away from this congregation so
that I may
consume them in an instant.” And Moses and Aaron fell facedown.
And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an
atonement for the people.
So Aaron took the
censer as Moses had ordered and ran into the midst of the assembly. And seeing
that the plague had begun among the people, he offered the incense and made
atonement for the people.
Now they
that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them
that died about the matter of
Korah.
But those who died from the plague numbered 14,700, in addition to those who had died on account of
Korah.
And it shall come to pass,
that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall
blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they
murmur against you.
The staff belonging to the man I choose will
sprout, and I will rid Myself of the constant
grumbling of the Israelites against you.”
And it came to pass,
that on the
morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was
budded, and brought forth buds, and
bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
The next day Moses entered the Tent of the Testimony and saw
that Aaron’s staff, representing the house of Levi, had
sprouted, put forth buds,
blossomed, and produced almonds.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a
token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me,
that they die not.
The LORD said to Moses, “Put Aaron’s staff back in front of the Testimony, to be kept as a sign for the
rebellious, so
that you may put an end to their
grumbling against Me, lest they die.”
And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness.
But bring with you also your brothers from the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may join you and assist you and your sons before the Tent of the Testimony.
And they shall keep thy charge, and the charge of all the tabernacle: only they shall not come
nigh the vessels of the sanctuary and the altar,
that neither they, nor ye also, die.
And they shall attend to your duties and to all the duties of the Tent; but they must not come near to the furnishings of the sanctuary or the altar, or both they and you will die.
And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar: that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel.
And you shall attend to the duties of the sanctuary and of the altar, so that wrath may not fall on the Israelites again.
Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priest’s office for every thing of the altar, and within the
vail; and ye shall serve: I have given your priest’s office unto you as a service of gift: and the stranger
that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
But only you and your sons shall attend to your priesthood for everything concerning the altar and what is inside the
veil, and you are to perform
that service. I am giving you the work of the priesthood as a gift, but any outsider who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death.”
This shall be thine of the most holy things, reserved from the fire: every
oblation of theirs, every meat offering of theirs, and every sin offering of theirs, and every
trespass offering of theirs, which they shall render unto me, shall be most holy for thee and for thy sons.
A portion of the most holy offerings reserved from the fire will be yours. From all the offerings they render to Me as most holy offerings, whether grain offerings or sin offerings or guilt offerings, that part belongs to you and your sons.
And this is thine; the
heave offering of their gift, with all the wave offerings of the children of Israel: I have given them unto thee, and to thy sons and to thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: every one
that is clean in thy house shall eat of it.
And this is yours as well: the offering of their gifts, along with all the wave offerings of the Israelites. I have given this to you and your sons and daughters as a permanent statute. Every
ceremonially clean person in your household may eat it.
All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine, and of the wheat, the firstfruits of them which they shall offer unto the LORD, them have I given thee.
I give you all the freshest olive oil and all the finest new wine and grain that the Israelites give to the LORD as their firstfruits.
And
whatsoever is first ripe in the land, which they shall bring unto the LORD, shall be thine; every one
that is clean in thine house shall eat of it.
The firstfruits of everything in their land
that they bring to the LORD will belong to you. Every
ceremonially clean person in your household may eat them.
Every thing
that openeth the
matrix in all flesh, which they bring unto the LORD, whether it be of men or beasts, shall be thine: nevertheless the
firstborn of man shalt thou surely
redeem, and the
firstling of unclean beasts shalt thou
redeem.
The
firstborn of every
womb, whether man or beast,
that is offered to the LORD belongs to you. But you must surely
redeem every
firstborn son and every
firstborn male of unclean animals.
And those
that are to be redeemed from a month old shalt thou
redeem, according to thine
estimation, for the money of five shekels, after the
shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs.
You are to pay the
redemption price for a month-old male according to your
valuation: five shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary
shekel, which is twenty gerahs.
All the
heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the LORD, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD unto thee and to thy seed with thee.
All the holy offerings that the Israelites present to the LORD I give to you and to your sons and daughters as a permanent statute. It is a permanent covenant of salt before the LORD for you and your offspring.”
But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.
The Levites are to perform the work of the Tent of Meeting, and they must bear their iniquity. This is a permanent statute for the generations to come. The Levites will not receive an inheritance among the Israelites.
But the
tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an
heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to
inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.
For I have given to the Levites as their inheritance the
tithe that the Israelites present to the LORD as a contribution.
That is why I told them
that they would not receive an inheritance among the Israelites.”
Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the
tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an
heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the
tithe.
“Speak to the Levites and tell them: ‘When you receive from the Israelites the
tithe that I have given you as your inheritance, you must present part of it as an offering to the LORD—a
tithe of the
tithe.
This is the
ordinance of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel,
that they bring thee a red
heifer without spot, wherein is no
blemish, and upon which never came yoke:
“This is the statute of the law
that the LORD has commanded:
Instruct the Israelites to bring you an
unblemished red
heifer that has no defect and has never been placed under a yoke.
And ye shall give her unto
Eleazar the priest,
that he may bring her forth without the camp, and one shall
slay her before his face:
Give it to
Eleazar the priest, and he will have it brought outside the camp and slaughtered in his presence.
Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall
bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even.
Then the priest must wash his clothes and
bathe his body in water; after
that he may enter the camp, but he will be
ceremonially unclean until evening.
And he
that burneth her shall wash his clothes in water, and
bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even.
The one who burned the
heifer must also wash his clothes and
bathe his body in water, and he too will be
