Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
And He told
them, “
The harvest is
plentiful, but
the workers are few. Ask
the Lord of
the harvest,
therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.
And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.
And in
the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as
they give: for
the labourer is worthy of his
hire. Go not from house to house.
Stay at the same house, eating and drinking whatever you are offered. For the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
And into
whatsoever city ye enter, and
they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
If you enter a town and
they welcome you, eat whatever is set before you.
And
heal the sick that are
therein, and say unto
them,
The kingdom of God is come
nigh unto you.
Heal the sick who are
there and tell
them, ‘
The kingdom of God is near you.’
But into
whatsoever city ye enter, and
they receive you not, go your ways out into
the streets of
the same, and say,
But if you enter a town and
they do not
welcome you, go into
the streets and declare,
Even
the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do
wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that
the kingdom of God is come
nigh unto you.
‘Even
the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we
wipe off as a testimony against you. Yet be sure of this:
The kingdom of God is near.’
Woe unto
thee, Chorazin!
woe unto
thee,
Bethsaida! for if
the mighty works had been done in Tyre and
Sidon, which have been done in you,
they had a great while ago
repented, sitting in
sackcloth and ashes.
Woe to you, Chorazin!
Woe to you,
Bethsaida! For if
the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and
Sidon,
they would have
repented long ago, sitting in
sackcloth and ashes.
But it shall be more
tolerable for Tyre and
Sidon at
the judgment, than for you.
But it will be more bearable for Tyre and
Sidon at
the judgment than for you.
He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
Whoever listens to you listens to Me;
whoever rejects you rejects Me; and
whoever rejects Me rejects
the One who sent Me.”
And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name.”
Behold, I give unto you power to
tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all
the power of
the enemy: and nothing shall by any means
hurt you.
Behold, I have given you authority to
tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all
the power of
the enemy. Nothing will
harm you.
Notwithstanding in this
rejoice not, that
the spirits are subject unto you; but rather
rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Nevertheless, do not
rejoice that
the spirits submit to you, but
rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
In that hour Jesus
rejoiced in spirit, and said, I
thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast
hid these things from
the wise and
prudent, and hast revealed
them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
At that time Jesus
rejoiced in
the Holy Spirit and declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden
these things from
the wise and learned, and revealed
them to little children.
Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight.
All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who
the Son is, but
the Father; and who
the Father is, but
the Son, and he to whom
the Son will
reveal him.
All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who
the Son is except
the Father, and no one knows who
the Father is except
the Son and those to whom
the Son chooses to
reveal Him.”
And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
Then Jesus turned to the disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
And, behold, a certain
lawyer stood up, and
tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to
inherit eternal life?
One day an
expert in
the law stood up to test Him. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to
inherit eternal life?”
He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
“What is written in the Law?” Jesus replied. “How do you read it?”
And he answering said, Thou shalt love
the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as
thyself.
He answered, “‘Love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘Love your
neighbor as
yourself.’”
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to
Jericho, and fell among
thieves, which
stripped him of his
raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Jesus took up this question and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to
Jericho when he fell into
the hands of robbers.
They stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
Now by chance a priest was going down the same road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a
Levite, when he was at
the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on
the other side.
So too, when a
Levite came to that spot and saw him, he passed by on
the other side.
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
He went to him and
bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine.
Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on
the morrow when he departed, he took out two
pence, and gave
them to
the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and
whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay
thee.
The next day he took out two
denarii and gave
them to
the innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he said, ‘and on my return I will repay you for any additional expense.’
Which now of
these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among
the thieves?
Which of
these three do you think was a
neighbor to
the man who fell into
the hands of robbers?”
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
“
The one who showed him mercy,” replied
the expert in
the law.
Then Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Now it came to pass, as
they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named
Martha received him into her house.
As
they traveled along, Jesus entered a village where a woman named
Martha welcomed Him into her home.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
She had a sister named Mary, who sat at
the Lord’s feet
listening to His message.
But
Martha was
cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord,
dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone?
bid her
therefore that she help me.
But
Martha was distracted by all
the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!”
And Jesus answered and said unto her,
Martha,
Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.”
And he said unto
them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
So Jesus told
them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father,
hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
And he said unto
them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at
midnight, and say unto him, Friend,
lend me three
loaves;
Then Jesus said to
them, “Suppose one of you goes to his friend at
midnight and says, ‘Friend,
lend me three
loaves of bread,
And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Do not bother me. My door is already shut, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’
I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his
importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
I tell you, even though he will not get up to provide for him because of his friendship, yet because of
the man’s
persistence, he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
So I tell you: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find;
knock, and
the door will be opened to you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
For
everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks,
the door will be opened.
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
And he was casting out a devil, and it was
dumb. And it came to pass, when
the devil was gone out,
the dumb spake; and
the people wondered.
One day Jesus was driving out a
demon that was
mute. And when
the demon was gone,
the man who had been
mute spoke.
The crowds were
amazed,
But some of
them said, He casteth out devils through
Beelzebub the chief of
the devils.
but some of them said, “It is by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons, that He drives out demons.”
But he, knowing
their thoughts, said unto
them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to
desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and a house divided against a house will fall.
And if I by
Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast
them out?
therefore shall
they be your judges.
And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons drive them out? So then, they will be your judges.
But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away
the armor in which
the man trusted, and
then he divides up his
plunder.
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through
arid places seeking rest and does not find it.
Then it says, ‘I will return to
the house I left.’
And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and
garnished.
On its return, it finds the house swept clean and put in order.
Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and
they go in and dwell
there. And
the final
plight of that man is worse than
the first.”
And it came to pass, as he spake
these things, a certain woman of
the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is
the womb that bare
thee, and
the paps which thou hast
sucked.
As Jesus was saying
these things, a woman in
the crowd raised her voice and said, “Blessed is
the womb that bore You, and blessed are
the breasts that
nursed You!”
But he said,
Yea rather, blessed are
they that hear
the word of God, and keep it.
But He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
And when
the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation:
they seek a sign; and
there shall no sign be given it, but
the sign of
Jonas the prophet.
As
the crowds were increasing, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It demands a sign, but none will be given it except
the sign of
Jonah.
For as
Jonas was a sign unto
the Ninevites, so shall also
the Son of man be to this generation.
For as
Jonah was a sign to
the Ninevites, so
the Son of Man will be a sign to this generation.
The queen of
the south shall rise up in
the judgment with
the men of this generation, and
condemn them: for she came from
the utmost parts of
the earth to hear
the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
The Queen of
the South will rise at
the judgment with
the men of this generation and
condemn them; for she came from
the ends of
the earth to hear
the wisdom of Solomon, and now One greater than Solomon is here.
The men of Nineve shall rise up in
the judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: for
they repented at
the preaching of
Jonas; and, behold, a greater than
Jonas is here.
The men of
Nineveh will stand at
the judgment with this generation and
condemn it; for
they repented at
the preaching of
Jonah, and now One greater than
Jonah is here.
No man, when he hath lighted a
candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a
bushel, but on a
candlestick, that
they which come in may see
the light.
No one lights a lamp and puts it in a
cellar or under a
basket. Instead, he sets it on a stand, so those who enter can see
the light.
The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body is full of darkness.
Take
heed therefore that
the light which is in
thee be not darkness.
Be careful, then, that the light within you is not darkness.
If thy whole body
therefore be full of light, having no part dark,
the whole shall be full of light, as when
the bright
shining of a
candle doth give
thee light.
So if your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, you will be
radiant, as though a lamp were
shining on you.”
And as he spake, a certain
Pharisee besought him to
dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.
As Jesus was speaking, a
Pharisee invited Him to
dine with him; so He went in and
reclined at
the table.
But
the Pharisee was surprised to see that Jesus did not first wash before
the meal.
And
the Lord said unto him, Now do ye
Pharisees make clean
the outside of
the cup and
the platter; but your inward part is full of
ravening and wickedness.
“Now
then,” said
the Lord, “you
Pharisees clean
the outside of
the cup and
dish, but inside you are full of
greed and wickedness.
Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?
You fools! Did not the One who made the outside make the inside as well?
But rather give
alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.
But give as
alms the things that are within you, and you will see that everything is clean for you.
But
woe unto you,
Pharisees! for ye
tithe mint and
rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and
the love of God:
these ought ye to have done, and not to leave
the other undone.
Woe to you
Pharisees! You pay
tithes of
mint,
rue, and every
herb, but you disregard justice and
the love of God. You should have practiced
the latter without neglecting
the former.
Woe unto you,
Pharisees! for ye love
the uppermost seats in
the synagogues, and greetings in
the markets.
Woe to you
Pharisees! You love
the chief seats in
the synagogues and
the greetings in
the marketplaces.
Woe unto you,
scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and
the men that walk over
them are not aware of
them.
Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves, which men walk over without even noticing.”
Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.
One of
the experts in
the law told Him, “Teacher, when You say
these things, You
insult us as well.”
And he said,
Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye
lade men with burdens
grievous to be borne, and ye
yourselves touch not
the burdens with one of your fingers.
“
Woe to you as well, experts in
the law!” He replied. “You
weigh men down with heavy burdens, but you
yourselves will not lift a finger to
lighten their load.
Woe unto you! for ye build
the sepulchres of
the prophets, and your fathers killed
them.
Woe to you! You build tombs for
the prophets, but it was your fathers who killed
them.
Truly ye bear witness that ye allow
the deeds of your fathers: for
they indeed killed
them, and ye build
their sepulchres.
So you are witnesses consenting to the deeds of your fathers: They killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.
Therefore also said
the wisdom of God, I will send
them prophets and apostles, and some of
them they shall
slay and
persecute:
Because of this,
the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send
them prophets and apostles; some of
them they will kill and others
they will
persecute.’
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
As a result, this generation will be charged with the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the foundation of the world,
From
the blood of
Abel unto
the blood of
Zacharias, which perished between
the altar and
the temple:
verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
from
the blood of
Abel to
the blood of
Zechariah, who was killed between
the altar and
the sanctuary.
Yes, I tell you, all of it will be charged to this generation.
Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away
the key of knowledge: ye entered not in
yourselves, and
them that were entering in ye hindered.
Woe to you experts in
the law! For you have taken away
the key to knowledge. You
yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were entering.”
As Jesus went on from
there,
the scribes and
Pharisees began to
oppose Him bitterly and to
ply Him with questions about many things,
Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that
they might
accuse him.
waiting to catch Him in something He might say.
In
the mean time, when
there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people,
insomuch that
they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all,
Beware ye of
the leaven of
the Pharisees, which is
hypocrisy.
In
the meantime, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that
they were
trampling one another. Jesus began to speak first to His disciples: “
Beware of
the leaven of
the Pharisees, which is
hypocrisy.
For
there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither
hid, that shall not be known.
There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, and nothing hidden that will not be made known.
Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in
the light; and that which ye have spoken in
the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon
the housetops.
What you have spoken in
the dark will be heard in
the daylight, and what you have
whispered in
the inner rooms will be proclaimed from
the housetops.
And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
I tell you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.
But I will
forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into
hell;
yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear
the One who, after you have been killed, has authority to throw you into
hell.
Yes, I tell you, fear Him!
Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Are not five sparrows sold for two
pennies? Yet not one of
them is forgotten by God.
But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Also I say unto you,
Whosoever shall
confess me before men, him shall
the Son of man also
confess before
the angels of God:
I tell you,
everyone who confesses Me before men,
the Son of Man will also
confess him before
the angels of God.
But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
But
whoever denies Me before men will be denied before
the angels of God.
And
whosoever shall speak a word against
the Son of man, it shall be
forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against
the Holy Ghost it shall not be
forgiven.
And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
When you are brought before synagogues, rulers, and authorities, do not
worry about how to defend
yourselves or what to say.
For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
For at that time the Holy Spirit will teach you what you should say.”
And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
And he said unto
them, Take
heed, and
beware of
covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in
the abundance of
the things which he possesseth.
And He said to
them, “Watch out! Guard
yourselves against every form of
greed, for one’s life does not consist in
the abundance of his possessions.”
And he spake a parable unto
them, saying,
The ground of a certain rich man brought forth
plentifully:
Then He told them a parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced an abundance.
And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and
there will I
bestow all my fruits and my goods.
Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will
tear down my barns and will build
bigger ones, and
there I will store up all my grain and my goods.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be
merry.
Then I will say to myself, “You have
plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take it easy. Eat, drink, and be
merry!”’
But God said unto him, Thou
fool, this night thy soul shall be required of
thee:
then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
But God said to him, ‘You
fool! This very night your life will be required of you.
Then who will own what you have accumulated?’
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “
Therefore I tell you, do not
worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.
The life is more than meat, and
the body is more than
raiment.
For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
Consider
the ravens: for
they neither
sow nor
reap; which neither have
storehouse nor
barn; and God feedeth
them: how much more are ye better than
the fowls?
Consider
the ravens:
They do not
sow or
reap,
they have no
storehouse or
barn; yet God feeds
them. How much more valuable you are than
the birds!
If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
So if you cannot do such a small thing, why do you
worry about
the rest?
