For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
For
the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to
everyone.
Teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
It instructs us to
renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in
the present age,
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
as we
await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and
Savior Jesus Christ.
Put
them in mind to be subject to
principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Remind
the believers to submit to rulers and authorities, to be
obedient and ready for every good work,
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
But when
the kindness of God our
Savior and His love for mankind appeared,
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
He saved us, not by
the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through
the washing of new birth and
renewal by
the Holy Spirit.
Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
This is
the Spirit He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our
Savior,
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
so that, having been justified by His grace, we would become heirs with the hope of eternal life.
This is a faithful saying, and
these things I will that thou
affirm constantly, that
they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works.
These things are good and profitable unto men.
This saying is
trustworthy. And I want you to
emphasize these things, so that those who have believed God will take care to
devote themselves to good deeds.
These things are excellent and profitable for
the people.
But avoid
foolish questions, and
genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about
the law; for
they are unprofitable and vain.
As soon as I send
Artemas or
Tychicus to you, make every effort to come to me at
Nicopolis, because I have decided to winter
there.
Bring Zenas
the lawyer and Apollos on
their journey
diligently, that nothing be wanting unto
them.
Do your best to
equip Zenas
the lawyer and Apollos, so that
they will have everything
they need.
And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
And our people must also learn to
devote themselves to good works in order to meet
the pressing needs of others, so that
they will not be unfruitful.
All that are with me
salute thee.
Greet them that love us in
the faith. Grace be with you all.
Amen.
All who are with me send you greetings.
Greet those who love us in
the faith. Grace be with all of you.
And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:
to Apphia our sister, to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church that meets at your house:
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I
thank my God, making mention of
thee always in my prayers,
I always
thank my God, remembering you in my prayers,
Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints.
That
the communication of thy faith may become
effectual by
the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
I pray that your
partnership in
the faith may become effective as you fully acknowledge every good thing that is ours in Christ.
For we have great joy and
consolation in thy love, because
the bowels of
the saints are refreshed by
thee, brother.
I take great joy and encouragement in your love, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.
Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to
enjoin thee that which is convenient,
So although in Christ I am bold enough to order you to do what is proper,
Yet for love’s sake I rather
beseech thee, being such an one as Paul
the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
I
prefer to appeal on
the basis of love. For I, Paul, am now aged, and a prisoner of Christ Jesus as well.
I appeal to you for my child
Onesimus, whose father I became while I was in chains.
Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me.
Whom I have sent again: thou
therefore receive him, that is, mine own
bowels:
I am sending back to you him who is my very heart.
Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy
stead he might have ministered unto me in
the bonds of
the gospel:
I would have liked to keep him with me, so that on your behalf he could minister to me in my chains for the gospel.
For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
For perhaps this is why he was separated from you for a while, so that you might have him back for good—
Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a beloved brother. He is especially beloved to me, but even more so to you, both in person and in the Lord.
If thou count me
therefore a
partner, receive him as myself.
So if you consider me a
partner, receive him as you would receive me.
If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;
But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge it to my account.
I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it:
albeit I do not say to
thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
I, Paul, write this with my own hand. I will repay it—not to mention that you owe me your very self.
Yea, brother, let me have joy of
thee in
the Lord: refresh my
bowels in
the Lord.
Yes, brother, let me have some benefit from you in
the Lord. Refresh my heart in Christ.
Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto
thee, knowing that thou
wilt also do more than I say.
Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.
But
withal prepare me also a
lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
In
the meantime, prepare a
guest room for me, because I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you.
There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings,
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
Amen.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
God, who at
sundry times and in
divers manners spake in time past unto
the fathers by
the prophets,
On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets.
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.
Who being
the brightness of his glory, and
the express image of his person, and upholding all things by
the word of his power, when he had by himself
purged our sins, sat down on
the right hand of
the Majesty on high;
The Son is
the radiance of God’s glory and
the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided
purification for sins, He sat down at
the right hand of
the Majesty on high.
Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.
For unto which of
the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I
begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
For to which of
the angels did God ever say: “You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father”? Or again: “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son”?
And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
And again, when God brings His
firstborn into
the world, He says: “Let all God’s angels worship Him.”
And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
Now about the angels He says: “He makes His angels winds, His servants flames of fire.”
But unto
the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a
sceptre of righteousness is
the sceptre of thy kingdom.
But about
the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, endures
forever and ever, and justice is
the scepter of Your kingdom.
Thou hast loved righteousness, and
hated iniquity;
therefore God, even thy God, hath
anointed thee with
the oil of
gladness above thy fellows.
You have loved righteousness and
hated wickedness;
therefore God, Your God, has
anointed You above Your companions with
the oil of joy.”
And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
And: “In the beginning, O Lord, You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
They shall perish; but thou remainest; and
they all shall wax old as
doth a garment;
They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
And as a
vesture shalt thou fold
them up, and
they shall be changed: but thou art
the same, and thy years shall not fail.
You will roll
them up like a
robe; like a garment
they will be changed; but You remain
the same, and Your years will never end.”
But to which of
the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy
footstool?
Yet to which of
the angels did God ever say: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a
footstool for Your feet”?
Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Are not
the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will
inherit salvation?
Therefore we ought to give
the more earnest
heed to
the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let
them slip.
We must pay closer attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
For if
the word spoken by angels was
stedfast, and every
transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
For if
the message spoken by angels was binding, and every
transgression and disobedience received its just punishment,
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation was first
announced by
the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,
God also bearing
them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with
divers miracles, and gifts of
the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
and was
affirmed by God through signs, wonders, various miracles, and gifts of
the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.
For unto
the angels hath he not put in subjection
the world to come,
whereof we speak.
For it is not to angels that He has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
But one in a certain place
testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or
the son of man, that thou visitest him?
But
somewhere it is
testified in
these words: “What is man that You are mindful of him, or
the son of man that You care for him?
Thou madest him a little lower than
the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and
didst set him over
the works of thy hands:
You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than
the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by
the grace of God He might taste death for
everyone.
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting for God, for whom and through whom all things exist, to make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering.
For both he that sanctifieth and
they who are
sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not
ashamed to call
them brethren,
For both
the One who sanctifies and those who are
sanctified are of
the same family. So Jesus is not
ashamed to call
them brothers.
Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
He says: “I will
proclaim Your name to My brothers; I will sing Your praises in
the assembly.”
And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
And again: “I will put My trust in Him.” And once again: “Here am I, and the children God has given Me.”
Forasmuch then as
the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of
the same; that through death he might destroy him that had
the power of death, that is,
the devil;
Now since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil,
And deliver
them who through fear of death were all
their lifetime subject to
bondage.
and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
For
verily he took not on him
the nature of angels; but he took on him
the seed of Abraham.
For surely it is not the angels He helps, but the descendants of Abraham.
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a
merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make
reconciliation for
the sins of
the people.
For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, so that He might become a
merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make
atonement for
the sins of
the people.
For in that he himself hath suffered being
tempted, he is able to succour
them that are
tempted.
Because He Himself suffered when He was
tempted, He is able to help those who are being
tempted.
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in
the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus,
the apostle and high priest whom we
confess.
Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.
For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast
the confidence and
the rejoicing of
the hope firm unto
the end.
But Christ is faithful as
the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and
the hope of which we
boast.
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
Therefore, as
the Holy Spirit says: “
Today, if you hear His voice,
do not
harden your hearts, as you did in
the rebellion, in
the day of testing in
the wilderness,
Wherefore I was
grieved with that generation, and said,
They do
alway err in
their heart; and
they have not known my ways.
Therefore I was
angry with that generation, and I said, ‘
Their hearts are always going
astray, and
they have not known My ways.’
So I
sware in my wrath,
They shall not enter into my rest.)
So I
swore on oath in My anger, ‘
They shall never enter My rest.’”
Take
heed, brethren, lest
there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from
the living God.
See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God.
For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold
the beginning of our confidence
stedfast unto
the end;
We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.
While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice,
harden not your hearts, as in
the provocation.
As it has been said: “
Today, if you hear His voice, do not
harden your hearts, as you did in
the rebellion.”
For some, when
they had heard, did
provoke:
howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?
But with whom was he
grieved forty years? was it not with
them that had
sinned, whose carcases fell in
the wilderness?
And with whom was God
angry for forty years? Was it not with those who
sinned, whose bodies fell in
the wilderness?
And to whom
sware he that
they should not enter into his rest, but to
them that believed not?
And to whom did He
swear that
they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be deemed to have fallen short of it.
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
For we also received
the good news just as
they did; but
the message
they heard was of no value to
them, since
they did not share
the faith of those who
comprehended it.
For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have
sworn in my wrath, if
they shall enter into my rest: although
the works were finished from
the foundation of
the world.
Now we who have believed enter that rest. As for
the others, it is just as God has said: “So I
swore on oath in My anger, ‘
They shall never enter My rest.’” And yet His works have been finished since
the foundation of
the world.
For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
For
somewhere He has spoken about
the seventh day in this manner: “And on
the seventh day God rested from all His works.”
And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
And again, as He says in the passage above: “They shall never enter My rest.”
Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Since, then, it remains for some to enter His rest, and since those who formerly heard the good news did not enter because of their disobedience,
For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience.
For
the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword,
piercing even to
the dividing
asunder of soul and spirit, and of
the joints and
marrow, and is a
discerner of
the thoughts and intents of
the heart.
For
the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and
marrow. It judges
the thoughts and intentions of
the heart.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through
the heavens, Jesus
the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we
profess.
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with
the feeling of our
infirmities; but was in all points
tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was
tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
