Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
For this is
the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not
grievous.
For this is
the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not
burdensome,
For
whatsoever is born of God overcometh
the world: and this is
the victory that overcometh
the world, even our faith.
because
everyone born of God overcomes
the world. And this is
the victory that has overcome
the world: our faith.
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Who then overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ—not by water alone, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies to this, because the Spirit is the truth.
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement.
If we receive
the witness of men,
the witness of God is greater: for this is
the witness of God which he hath
testified of his Son.
Even if we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony that God has given about His Son.
He that believeth on
the Son of God hath
the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a
liar; because he believeth not
the record that God gave of his Son.
Whoever believes in
the Son of God has this testimony within him;
whoever does not believe God has made Him out to be a
liar, because he has not believed in
the testimony that God has given about His Son.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Whoever has
the Son has life;
whoever does not have
the Son of God does not have life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
And this is the confidence that we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
And if we know that he hear us,
whatsoever we ask, we know that we have
the petitions that we desired of him.
And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we already possess what we have asked of Him.
If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
If
anyone sees his brother
committing a sin not leading to death, he should ask God, who will give life to those who commit this kind of sin.
There is a sin that leads to death; I am not saying he should ask regarding that sin.
All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
All unrighteousness is sin, yet there is sin that does not lead to death.
We know that
whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is
begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
We know that
anyone born of God does not keep on
sinning;
the One who was born of God protects him, and
the evil one cannot touch him.
And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
We know that we are of God, and that the whole world is under the power of the evil one.
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true—in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
The elder unto
the elect lady and her children, whom I love in
the truth; and not I only, but also all
they that have known
the truth;
The elder, To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth—and not I alone, but also all who know the truth—
For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
because of
the truth that abides in us and will be with us
forever:
Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, will be with us in truth and love.
I
rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from
the Father.
I was overjoyed to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father has commanded us.
And now I
beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto
thee, but that which we had from
the beginning, that we love one another.
And now I
urge you,
dear lady—not as a new commandment to you, but one we have had from
the beginning—that we love one another.
And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the very commandment you have heard from the beginning, that you must walk in love.
For many deceivers are entered into
the world, who
confess not that Jesus Christ is come in
the flesh. This is a
deceiver and an
antichrist.
For many deceivers have gone out into
the world, refusing to
confess the coming of Jesus Christ in
the flesh. Any such person is
the deceiver and
the antichrist.
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in
the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in
the doctrine of Christ, he hath both
the Father and
the Son.
Anyone who runs
ahead without remaining in
the teaching of Christ does not have God.
Whoever remains in His teaching has both
the Father and
the Son.
If
there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither
bid him God speed:
If
anyone comes to you but does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your home or even
greet him.
The children of your
elect sister send you greetings.
The elder unto
the wellbeloved
Gaius, whom I love in
the truth.
The elder, To
the beloved
Gaius, whom I love in
the truth:
For I
rejoiced greatly, when
the brethren came and
testified of
the truth that is in
thee, even as thou walkest in
the truth.
For I was overjoyed when
the brothers came and
testified about your devotion to
the truth, in which you continue to walk.
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
Beloved, thou doest faithfully
whatsoever thou doest to
the brethren, and to strangers;
Beloved, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, and especially since they are strangers to you.
Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
They have
testified to
the church about your love. You will do well to send
them on
their way in a manner worthy of God.
Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
For they went out on behalf of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
I have written to the church about this, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not accept our instruction.
Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth,
prating against us with
malicious words: and not content
therewith, neither
doth he himself receive
the brethren, and forbiddeth
them that would, and casteth
them out of
the church.
So if I come, I will call attention to his
malicious slander against us. And unsatisfied with that, he refuses to
welcome the brothers and forbids those who want to do so, even putting
them out of
the church.
Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
Beloved, do not
imitate what is evil, but what is good.
The one who does good is of God;
the one who does evil has not seen God.
Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of
the truth itself:
yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
Demetrius has received a good testimony from
everyone, and from
the truth itself. We also
testify for him, and you know that our testimony is true.
I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
I have many things to write to you, but I would
prefer not to do so with pen and ink.
But I trust I shall shortly see
thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to
thee. Our friends
salute thee.
Greet the friends by name.
Instead, I hope to see you soon and speak with you face to face. Peace to you.
The friends here send you greetings.
Greet each of our friends
there by name.
Jude,
the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to
them that are
sanctified by God
the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who are called, loved by God
the Father, and kept in Jesus Christ:
Beloved, when I gave all
diligence to write unto you of
the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and
exhort you that ye should earnestly
contend for
the faith which was once delivered unto
the saints.
Beloved, although I made every effort to write to you about
the salvation we share, I felt it necessary to write and
urge you to
contend earnestly for
the faith entrusted once for all to
the saints.
For
there are certain men
crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this
condemnation, ungodly men, turning
the grace of our God into
lasciviousness, and denying
the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
For certain men have
crept in among you unnoticed—ungodly ones who were designated long ago for
condemnation.
They turn
the grace of our God into a
license for immorality, and
they deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
I will
therefore put you in
remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that
the Lord, having saved
the people out of
the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed
them that believed not.
Although you are fully aware of this, I want to remind you that after Jesus had delivered His people out of the land of Egypt, He destroyed those who did not believe.
And
the angels which kept not
their first estate, but left
their own
habitation, he hath reserved in
everlasting chains under darkness unto
the judgment of
the great day.
And
the angels who did not stay within
their own
domain but abandoned
their proper dwelling—
these He has kept in eternal chains under darkness, bound for judgment on that great day.
Even as
Sodom and Gomorrha, and
the cities about
them in like manner, giving
themselves over to
fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering
the vengeance of eternal fire.
In like manner,
Sodom and
Gomorrah and
the cities around
them, who
indulged in sexual immorality and pursued strange flesh, are on display as an example of those who
sustain the punishment of eternal fire.
Yet in
the same way
these dreamers
defile their bodies,
reject authority, and
slander glorious beings.
But even
the archangel Michael, when he disputed with
the devil over
the body of Moses, did not
presume to bring a
slanderous charge against him, but said, “
The Lord
rebuke you!”
But
these speak evil of those things which
they know not: but what
they know naturally, as
brute beasts, in those things
they corrupt
themselves.
These are spots in your feasts of charity, when
they feast with you, feeding
themselves without fear: clouds
they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead,
plucked up by
the roots;
These men are hidden reefs in your love feasts,
shamelessly feasting with you but
shepherding only
themselves.
They are clouds without water, carried along by
the wind; fruitless trees in autumn, twice dead after being uprooted.
Raging waves of
the sea,
foaming out
their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved
the blackness of darkness for ever.
They are wild waves of
the sea,
foaming up
their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved
forever.
And
Enoch also,
the seventh from Adam,
prophesied of
these, saying, Behold,
the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
Enoch,
the seventh from Adam, also
prophesied about
them: “Behold,
the Lord is coming with myriads of His holy ones
To
execute judgment upon all, and to
convince all that are ungodly among
them of all
their ungodly deeds which
they have ungodly committed, and of all
their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
to
execute judgment on
everyone, and to
convict all
the ungodly of every ungodly act of wickedness and every harsh word spoken against Him by ungodly sinners.”
These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.
These men are discontented grumblers, following after
their own lusts;
their mouths
spew arrogance;
they flatter others for
their own advantage.
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
But you, beloved, remember what was
foretold by
the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
when they said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow after their own ungodly desires.”
These be
they who separate
themselves,
sensual, having not
the Spirit.
These are the ones who cause divisions, who are worldly and devoid of the Spirit.
But ye, beloved, building up
yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in
the Holy Ghost,
But you, beloved, by building
yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in
the Holy Spirit,
Keep
yourselves in
the love of God, looking for
the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
keep
yourselves in
the love of God as you
await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life.
And others save with fear, pulling
them out of
the fire;
hating even
the garment
spotted by
the flesh.
save others by
snatching them from
the fire; and to still others show mercy tempered with fear,
hating even
the clothing
stained by
the flesh.
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
Now to Him who is able to keep you from
stumbling and to present you
unblemished in His glorious presence, with great joy—
To
the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever.
Amen.
to
the only God our
Savior be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority through Jesus Christ our Lord before all time, and now, and for all
eternity.
Amen.
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to
shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and
signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John,
Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
who testifies to everything he saw. This is the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Blessed is
the one who reads
aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and obey what is written in it, because
the time is near.
John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from Him who is and was and is to come, and from the seven Spirits before His throne,
And from Jesus Christ, who is
the faithful witness, and
the first
begotten of
the dead, and
the prince of
the kings of
the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
and from Jesus Christ,
the faithful witness,
the firstborn from
the dead, and
the ruler of
the kings of
the earth. To Him who loves us and has released us from our sins by His blood,
And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.
who has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father—to Him be
the glory and power
forever and ever!
Amen.
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and
they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of
the earth shall
wail because of him. Even so,
Amen.
Behold, He is coming with
the clouds, and every eye will see Him—even those who pierced Him. And all
the tribes of
the earth will
mourn because of Him. So shall it be!
Amen.
I am
Alpha and
Omega,
the beginning and
the ending, saith
the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come,
the Almighty.
“I am
the Alpha and
the Omega,” says
the Lord God, who is and was and is to come—
the Almighty.
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in
tribulation, and in
the kingdom and
patience of Jesus Christ, was in
the isle that is called
Patmos, for
the word of God, and for
the testimony of Jesus Christ.
I, John, your brother and
partner in
the tribulation and kingdom and
perseverance that are in Jesus, was on
the island of
Patmos because of
the word of God and my testimony about Jesus.
I was in
the Spirit on
the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a
trumpet,
On
the Lord’s day I was in
the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a
trumpet,
Saying, I am
Alpha and
Omega,
the first and
the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto
the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto
Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto
Thyatira, and unto
Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto
Laodicea.
And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands,
And in
the midst of
the seven candlesticks one like unto
the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to
the foot, and
girt about
the paps with a golden
girdle.
and among
the lampstands was One like
the Son of Man, dressed in a long
robe, with a golden
sash around His chest.
His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
The hair of His head was white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes were like a
blazing fire.
And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and His voice was like
the roar of many waters.
And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp
twoedged sword: and his countenance was as
the sun shineth in his strength.
He held in His right hand seven stars, and a sharp double-edged sword came from His mouth. His face was like
the sun
shining at its brightest.
And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. But He placed His right hand on me and said, “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last,
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for
evermore,
Amen; and have
the keys of
hell and of death.
the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I am alive
forever and ever! And I hold
the keys of Death and of Hades.
Write
the things which thou hast seen, and
the things which are, and
the things which shall be
hereafter;
Therefore write down the things you have seen, and the things that are, and the things that will happen after this.
The mystery of
the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and
the seven golden candlesticks.
The seven stars are
the angels of
the seven churches: and
the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are
the seven churches.
This is
the mystery of
the seven stars you saw in My right hand and of
the seven golden lampstands:
The seven stars are
the angels of
the seven churches, and
the seven lampstands are
the seven churches.
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of Him who holds the seven stars in His right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy
patience, and how thou canst not bear
them which are evil: and thou hast tried
them which say
they are apostles, and are not, and hast found
them liars:
I know your deeds, your labor, and your
perseverance. I know that you cannot
tolerate those who are evil, and you have tested and exposed as liars those who falsely claim to be apostles.
And hast borne, and hast
patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not
fainted.
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
But I have this against you: You have abandoned your first love.
Remember
therefore from whence thou art fallen, and
repent, and do
the first works; or else I will come unto
thee quickly, and will remove thy
candlestick out of his place, except thou
repent.
Therefore, keep in mind how far you have fallen.
Repent and perform
the deeds you did at first. But if you do not
repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.
But this thou hast, that thou hatest
the deeds of
the Nicolaitanes, which I also
hate.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what
the Spirit saith unto
the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of
the tree of life, which is in
the midst of
the paradise of God.
He who has an ear, let him hear what
the Spirit says to
the churches. To
the one who overcomes, I will grant
the right to eat from
the tree of life in
the Paradise of God.
And unto
the angel of
the church in
Smyrna write;
These things saith
the first and
the last, which was dead, and is alive;
To
the angel of
the church in
Smyrna write:
These are
the words of
the First and
the Last, who died and returned to life.
I know thy works, and
tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know
the blasphemy of
them which say
they are Jews, and are not, but are
the synagogue of
Satan.
I know your
affliction and your poverty—though you are rich! And I am aware of
the slander of those who falsely claim to be Jews, but are in fact a
synagogue of
Satan.
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold,
the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have
tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give
thee a crown of life.
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Look,
the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will suffer
tribulation for ten days. Be faithful even unto death, and I will give you
the crown of life.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what
the Spirit saith unto
the churches; He that overcometh shall not be
hurt of
the second death.
He who has an ear, let him hear what
the Spirit says to
the churches.
The one who overcomes will not be
harmed by
the second death.
And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
To
the angel of
the church in
Pergamum write:
These are
the words of
the One who holds
the sharp, double-edged sword.
I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where
Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein
Antipas was my faithful
martyr, who was slain among you, where
Satan dwelleth.
I know where you live, where
the throne of
Satan sits. Yet you have held fast to My name and have not denied your faith in Me, even in
the day when My faithful witness
Antipas was killed among you, where
Satan dwells.
But I have a few things against
thee, because thou hast
there them that hold
the doctrine of
Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before
the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit
fornication.
But I have a few things against you, because some of you hold to
the teaching of
Balaam, who taught Balak to place a
stumbling block before
the Israelites so
they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.
So hast thou also
them that hold
the doctrine of
the Nicolaitanes, which thing I
hate.
In
the same way, some of you also hold to
the teaching of
the Nicolaitans.
Repent; or else I will come unto
thee quickly, and will fight against
them with
the sword of my mouth.
Therefore repent! Otherwise I will come to you shortly and
wage war against
them with
the sword of My mouth.
