And
the fear of you and
the dread of you shall be upon every beast of
the earth, and upon every fowl of
the air, upon all that moveth upon
the earth, and upon all
the fishes of
the sea; into your hand are
they delivered.
The fear and
dread of you will fall on every living creature on
the earth, every bird of
the air, every creature that crawls on
the ground, and all
the fish of
the sea.
They are delivered into your hand.
Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as
the green
herb have I given you all things.
Everything that lives and moves will be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you all things.
But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
But you must not eat meat with its
lifeblood still in it.
And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
And surely I will require
the life of any man or beast by whose hand your
lifeblood is shed. I will demand an accounting from
anyone who takes
the life of his fellow man:
Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in
the image of God made he man.
Whoever sheds
the blood of man, by man his blood will be shed; for in His own image God has made mankind.
And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
But as for you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out across the earth and multiply upon it.”
And God spake unto
Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
Then God said to
Noah and his sons with him,
And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
and with every living creature that was with you—
the birds,
the livestock, and every beast of
the earth—every living thing that came out of
the ark.
And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
And God said, This is
the token of
the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between Me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:
I do set my bow in
the cloud, and it shall be for a
token of a covenant between me and
the earth.
I have set My
rainbow in
the clouds, and it will be a sign of
the covenant between Me and
the earth.
And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
Whenever I form clouds over
the earth and
the rainbow appears in
the clouds,
And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
I will remember My covenant between Me and you and every living creature of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
And
the bow shall be in
the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember
the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon
the earth.
And whenever
the rainbow appears in
the clouds, I will see it and remember
the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of every kind that is on
the earth.”
And God said unto
Noah, This is
the token of
the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon
the earth.
So God said to
Noah, “This is
the sign of
the covenant that I have established between Me and every creature on
the earth.”
These are
the three sons of
Noah: and of
them was
the whole earth overspread.
These three were
the sons of
Noah, and from
them the whole earth was
populated.
And he
drank of
the wine, and was
drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
But when he
drank some of its wine, he became
drunk and uncovered himself inside his tent.
And
Ham,
the father of
Canaan, saw
the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
And
Ham,
the father of
Canaan, saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers outside.
And
Shem and
Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both
their shoulders, and went backward, and covered
the nakedness of
their father; and
their faces were backward, and
they saw not
their father’s nakedness.
Then Shem and
Japheth took a garment and placed it across
their shoulders, and walking backward,
they covered
their father’s nakedness.
Their faces were turned away so that
they did not see
their father’s nakedness.
And he said, Blessed be
the LORD God of
Shem; and
Canaan shall be his servant.
He also declared: “Blessed be
the LORD,
the God of
Shem! May
Canaan be
the servant of
Shem.
And
Noah lived after
the flood three hundred and fifty years.
After
the flood,
Noah lived 350 years.
And all
the days of
Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
So
Noah lived a total of 950 years, and
then he died.
Now
these are
the generations of
the sons of
Noah,
Shem,
Ham, and
Japheth: and unto
them were sons born after
the flood.
This is
the account of
Noah’s sons
Shem,
Ham, and
Japheth, who also had sons after
the flood.
And
the sons of
Javan; Elishah, and
Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
And
the sons of
Javan: Elishah,
Tarshish,
the Kittites, and
the Rodanites.
By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
From these, the maritime peoples separated into their territories, according to their languages, by clans within their nations.
And
the sons of
Cush; Seba, and
Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: and
the sons of Raamah;
Sheba, and Dedan.
The sons of
Cush: Seba,
Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And
the sons of Raamah:
Sheba and Dedan.
Cush was
the father of
Nimrod, who began to be a mighty one on
the earth.
He was a mighty hunter before
the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as
Nimrod the mighty hunter before
the LORD.
He was a mighty hunter before
the LORD; so it is said, “Like
Nimrod, a mighty hunter before
the LORD.”
Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded
Nineveh, and
the city Rehoboth, and
Calah,
From that land he went forth into Assyria, where he built
Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir,
Calah,
And Resen between
Nineveh and
Calah:
the same is a great city.
and Resen, which is between
Nineveh and
the great city of
Calah.
Mizraim was
the father of
the Ludites,
the Anamites,
the Lehabites,
the Naphtuhites,
And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came
Philistim,) and Caphtorim.
the Pathrusites, the Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and the Caphtorites.
And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite,
the Jebusites,
the Amorites,
the Girgashites,
And
the Hivite, and
the Arkite, and
the Sinite,
the Hivites,
the Arkites,
the Sinites,
And
the Arvadite, and
the Zemarite, and
the Hamathite: and afterward were
the families of
the Canaanites spread abroad.
the Arvadites,
the Zemarites, and
the Hamathites. Later
the Canaanite clans were scattered,
These are
the sons of
Ham, after
their families, after
their tongues, in
their countries, and in
their nations.
These are
the sons of
Ham according to
their clans, languages, lands, and nations.
Unto
Shem also,
the father of all
the children of Eber,
the brother of
Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.
The children of
Shem;
Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and
Aram.
And
the children of
Aram;
Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and
Mash.
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.
And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.
Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother was named Joktan.
And Joktan
begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazar-maveth, and Jerah,
And Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
And
Ophir, and
Havilah, and Jobab: all
these were
the sons of Joktan.
And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east.
Their territory extended from Mesha to Sephar, in the eastern hill country.
These are
the sons of
Shem, after
their families, after
their tongues, in
their lands, after
their nations.
These are
the sons of
Shem, according to
their clans, languages, lands, and nations.
These are
the families of
the sons of
Noah, after
their generations, in
their nations: and by
these were
the nations divided in
the earth after
the flood.
All
these are
the clans of
Noah’s sons, according to
their generations and nations. From
these the nations of
the earth spread out after
the flood.
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Now the whole world had one language and a common form of speech.
And it came to pass, as
they journeyed from
the east, that
they found a plain in
the land of
Shinar; and
they dwelt
there.
And as people journeyed eastward,
they found a plain in
the land of
Shinar and settled
there.
And
they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn
them throughly. And
they had brick for stone, and
slime had
they for
morter.
And
they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and
bake them thoroughly.” So
they used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of mortar.
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
“Come,” they said, “let us build for ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens, that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of all the earth.”
And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Then the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the sons of men were building.
And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
And
the LORD said, “If
they have begun to do this as one people speaking
the same language,
then nothing
they devise will be beyond
them.
Go to, let us go down, and
there confound their language, that
they may not understand one another’s speech.
Come, let Us go down and
confuse their language, so that
they will not understand one another’s speech.”
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
Therefore is
the name of it called
Babel; because
the LORD did
there confound the language of all
the earth: and from
thence did
the LORD
scatter them abroad upon
the face of all
the earth.
That is why it is called
Babel, for
there the LORD confused
the language of
the whole world, and from that place
the LORD scattered
them over
the face of all
the earth.
These are
the generations of
Shem:
Shem was an hundred years old, and
begat Arphaxad two years after
the flood:
This is
the account of
Shem. Two years after
the flood, when
Shem was 100 years old, he became
the father of Arphaxad.
And
Shem lived after he
begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and
begat sons and daughters.
And after he had become
the father of Arphaxad,
Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters.
And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and
begat Salah:
When Arphaxad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.
And Arphaxad lived after he
begat Salah four hundred and three years, and
begat sons and daughters.
And after he had become the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
And Salah lived thirty years, and
begat Eber:
When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
And Salah lived after he
begat Eber four hundred and three years, and
begat sons and daughters.
And after he had become the father of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
And Eber lived four and thirty years, and
begat Peleg:
When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
And Eber lived after he
begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and
begat sons and daughters.
And after he had become the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters.
And Peleg lived thirty years, and
begat Reu:
When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu.
And Peleg lived after he
begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and
begat sons and daughters.
And after he had become the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
And Reu lived two and thirty years, and
begat Serug:
When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug.
And Reu lived after he
begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and
begat sons and daughters.
And after he had become the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters.
When Serug was 30 years old, he became
the father of
Nahor.
And Serug lived after he
begat Nahor two hundred years, and
begat sons and daughters.
And after he had become
the father of
Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
And
Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and
begat Terah:
When
Nahor was 29 years old, he became
the father of Terah.
And after he had become
the father of Terah,
Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
When Terah was 70 years old, he became
the father of
Abram,
Nahor, and
Haran.
This is
the account of Terah. Terah became
the father of
Abram,
Nahor, and
Haran. And
Haran became
the father of Lot.
And
Haran died before his father Terah in
the land of his
nativity, in
Ur of
the Chaldees.
During his father Terah’s lifetime,
Haran died in his native land, in
Ur of
the Chaldeans.
And
Abram and
Nahor took
them wives:
the name of
Abram’s wife was Sarai; and
the name of
Nahor’s wife, Milcah,
the daughter of
Haran,
the father of Milcah, and
the father of Iscah.
And
Abram and
Nahor took wives for
themselves.
Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and
Nahor’s wife was named Milcah; she was
the daughter of
Haran, who was
the father of both Milcah and Iscah.
And Terah took
Abram his son, and Lot
the son of
Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son
Abram’s wife; and
they went forth with
them from
Ur of
the Chaldees, to go into
the land of
Canaan; and
they came unto
Haran, and dwelt
there.
And Terah took his son
Abram, his grandson Lot son of
Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai
the wife of
Abram, and
they set out from
Ur of
the Chaldeans for
the land of
Canaan. But when
they arrived in
Haran,
they settled
there.
And
the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in
Haran.
Terah lived 205 years, and he died in
Haran.
Now
the LORD had said unto
Abram, Get
thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will
shew thee:
Then the LORD said to
Abram, “Leave your country, your kindred, and your father’s household, and go to
the land I will show you.
And I will make of
thee a great nation, and I will
bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
I will make you into a great nation, and I will
bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
And I will
bless them that
bless thee, and
curse him that curseth
thee: and in
thee shall all families of
the earth be blessed.
I will
bless those who
bless you and
curse those who
curse you; and all
the families of
the earth will be blessed through you.”
So
Abram departed, as
the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and
Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of
Haran.
So
Abram departed, as
the LORD had directed him, and Lot went with him.
Abram was seventy-five years old when he left
Haran.
And
Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all
their substance that
they had gathered, and
the souls that
they had
gotten in
Haran; and
they went forth to go into
the land of
Canaan; and into
the land of
Canaan they came.
And
Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all
the possessions and people
they had acquired in
Haran, and set out for
the land of
Canaan. When
they came to
the land of
Canaan,
And
Abram passed through
the land unto
the place of Sichem, unto
the plain of Moreh. And
the Canaanite was
then in
the land.
Abram traveled through
the land as far as
the site of
the Oak of Moreh at
Shechem. And at that time
the Canaanites were in
the land.
And
the LORD appeared unto
Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and
there builded he an altar unto
the LORD, who appeared unto him.
Then the LORD appeared to
Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.” So
Abram built an altar
there to
the LORD, who had appeared to him.
And he removed from
thence unto a mountain on
the east of
Bethel, and pitched his tent, having
Bethel on
the west, and Hai on
the east: and
there he builded an altar unto
the LORD, and called upon
the name of
the LORD.
From
there Abram moved on to
the hill country east of
Bethel and pitched his tent, with
Bethel to
the west and
Ai to
the east.
There he built an altar to
the LORD, and he called on
the name of
the LORD.
And
Abram journeyed, going on still toward
the south.
And
Abram journeyed on toward
the Negev.
And
there was a famine in
the land: and
Abram went down into Egypt to
sojourn there; for
the famine was
grievous in
the land.
Now
there was a famine in
the land. So
Abram went down to Egypt to live
there for a while because
the famine was severe.
Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live.
Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
Please say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake, and on account of you my life will be
spared.”
And it came to pass, that, when
Abram was come into Egypt,
the Egyptians
beheld the woman that she was very fair.
So when
Abram entered Egypt,
the Egyptians saw that
the woman was very beautiful.
The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and
commended her before Pharaoh: and
the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
When Pharaoh’s officials saw Sarai,
they commended her to him, and she was taken into
the palace of Pharaoh.
